  1. I was out for a ride this afternoon and my wife calls and asks me to pick up a powerball ticket for tonights drawing. So I stop in a Shell market about 15 miles from home to take a break and pick up the tickets. When I got back out to the bike I noticd my helmet dangling from the handle bars by the headset cord. I thought that was odd because the it was always secure hooked over the mirror. While I walked around the bike while finishing my Pepsi I noticed a turn signal lens on the ground about 4 feet behind the bike. It looked like mine, it was mine. Crap, someone hit me while I was in the store. I was parked out beyond the pump islands away from everyone. Upon further examination I found my fender dented, the chrome saddle bag rail bent, the trunk cracked and scratched and I was pissed. I called the police to file a report and it turned out the store had security cameras that recoreded the event. However, the resolution was too poor to identify the vehicle or driver. The driver of a white extended cab pickup was parked about 30 feet from me. He backed up and his hitch ball took out my turn signal and dented the fender and his bumper hit the trunk. I watched in the video as he pushed the bike back about 4 feet and luckily it didn't fall over and stayed on the sidestand. The video showed the guy get out and look behind the truck and then get back in. I guess he was contemplating his next move because it took him a minute and a half to decide to get out and come in the store. It appeared he came in just to see if anyone seemed to have noticed him hit the bike. When no one seemed to have noticed he returned to his truck and drove off. All the while I am standing in the store talking to friendly guy that just walked up and asked about Ventures. This all happened in about 3 minutes. The trooper took the report and a copy of the video but it is doubtful anything will come of it. I guess I get to talk to my insurance company Monday. It looks like replacment parts are going to run about $1300. Maybe it's time for a new bike. I'm tempted. With my luck today I don't expect much from those lottery tickets. Dennis
  2. I started my 89 Venture this afternoon and left it running at idle sped to warm up--came back a few minutes later and noticed a werrrrrring sound coming from the lower front of engine--sounded very strange so I began investigating while it was running--after a few minutes it just "shut down"-at about this same time I noticed that my "starter button" had stuck "in" when I started the bike----OK---what do you guys think I ruined when this happened----I tried to restart it and nothing----the battery was hot as fire and showed no charge--i have taken it out and placed it on battery tender charge for tonight---I was just wondering what I might have shorted out or burnt up when the Starter button stuck in......thanks.............Larry
  3. Hello to all. I am in a great need for some help. I live in NC and with the cold weather we have had and me starting a new job I have not had alot of time to ride my bike. I have a 2000 MM and I went out to start it up and I was letting it run since it has been cold. I went out to check on it and noticed a large cloud of smoke coming from underneath the motor and then I looked under the motor and noticed water pouring out of the bottom. I was wondering if anyone on here would have suggestions as to what the problem is. Thank you in advance for the help that I will receive with this issue. Hopefully it will not cost me alot of
  4. I was wondering if anyone noticed that their speedometer on their RSV is not accurate? I've noticed when I take my gps with me, my speedo is 5mph slower than what the gps says. I have an 08 RSV. Is that normal for this model bike?
  5. Sunday I stepped on a rofing nail around 1:0 and with my periferal neuropathy I didn't feel it. I noticed it around 5:30 when I came in for the day and my sock was stuck to my shoe. As I was walking across the floor I noticed I was leacving a small blood trail. Monday morning all seemed reasonably well so I went to work. Big mistake. As the day progressed I felt sicker and aicker, and when I got home my toe that got the nail in it was all inflamed. Called my doctor last night and he gave me a prescription for some antibiotics. Went to the doctors today, and it does not look good. They gave me a shot of a second antibiotic and a prescription for a third antibiotic. I'm staying home the rest of the week on DB, and have to go back to the doctor's on thursday. I really do not want to loose another toe, this one is on the other foot, so please pray for me!!!
  6. pulled the rear end and lubed everything from hub to drive shaft with moly paste. also got a new rear tire and replaced brake pads. I have put several hundred miles on since the work. Last night the wife and i were arriving at home when i noticed a "creak" somewhere in the rear end. It goes with the rotation of tire or shaft. Any thoughts? Did I miss something? Thanks for the help.
  7. I wanted to see how effective the electric windshield and the pop out side louvers do in -10C weather Took the scoot for a 50 km ride, I was impressed with the wind protection but 50kms would it max.I was wearing Felt jeans and a Joe Rocket jacket with the inner lining. Most of the wind I noticed was blowing on the pelvic area. I should have wore my ski-doo suit The hands got cold even with my Ski-doo gloves .Im going to get the Suzuki Storm Hand Guards that attach to the handle bars. Now I have to get a Block Heater and Studs onto the tires and Training Wheels
  8. When I got to work last night I parked in the garage as normal. Several hours later I came in off the road and noticed the smell of gas. I look around my 2002 RSV and noticed a small wet spot under the left side. Well I thought it must have came from one of the overflow tubes. I decided to start her up. When I hit the start switch it turned over about three times and then just stopped!!! I hit the start switch a few more times and just got a thud. The third time I held it longer and it turned over and started shooting gas out the left side exhaust. It seem to run ok. Hope I make it home. Guess I should do an oil change in case some gas got purged passed the rings down into the crank case. Has anyone had this happen before?
  9. ok went for a nice ride today. but noticed the clutch master by the eye glass is starting to weep? and looking kind of brittle? is there a fix for this? also noticed that PO cut some wire? im thinking safety switch. as i cant start the bike in gear even with clutch pulled in and sidestand up? i looked on ebay and wow this time of year pepole want close to $70 bucks for one. im going to tear down plastic and old looking stuff and start replaceing. just thinking there has to be a cheaper master out there?
  10. first of I have nothing to do with this cdi just surfing and noticed it/ Seems like a good price. Not sure if theres anyone looking at it wright now or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-XVZ-12-13-Venture-Royale-Ignition-Unit-/290462632296?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43a0ec0968 David
  11. My driveway has a slight curb on it and is slightly uphill going into the drive. I've noticed that when I pull into my driveway and come up the slight curb, the front end feels like it is wobbling. So, when I got into the garage I planted both feet on the floor and shook the front end and it "wobbled." Never noticed this before. It rides and handles good. is this normal? Glenn
  12. Made it to Oklahoma City today, left Tunica Miss. at 5 this am and rode about 500 miles. Will try to make it to Sante Fe, New Mexico Tomorrow. Too dang hot to ride much more than we did today. Hope to be in Jackson Hole on Tuesday and then spend a few days in Yellowstone before heading for the Black Hills. Have had good luck so far, had to replace the new Venom tire that had less than 2500 miles on it but I noticed it was low about 10 minutes before we were to leave home so I guess that was still good luck, better than being on the road and having it go down. Now I have a new Dunlop 404 on the rear, at least until I get back home.
  13. I've been a member for a few months but have never posted. My ? is this.. My (new to me) 89 venture has developed a problem. After my 2000 mi. trip to the Black Hills I noticed oil in the overflow tank. What would cause this? Blown Headgasket? Or is there another way? :confused24:
  14. I am trying to figure out the problem that is been confusing me. I have had my carbs cleaned and was still having an issue so I pulled the wire off of the right rear plug and put in another and placed it to the block to check for a spark. I noticed a small spark when I turn bike over than stopped until I reached 4500rpm then recieved a big spark. repeated the same test to theleft rear and noticed no spark at all. Would this be a wire or coil issue? I have a 1985 Venture royale 1200 cc
  15. I would like to use the front fork lock position on my ignition switch from time to time and have noticed that when I do the blinker lights come on and stay on. They dont blink they just come on. What's up with that?
  16. 1983 VR, 86,000 km Here's whats happening: A few rides ago, I noticed my temp guage dropping to bottom every few minutes...like a loose wire or something. Today, I noticed my voltmeter reading 9-10, previoulsy it was always at about 13 After a fairly long ride, there wasn't enough power to start...like battery was dead. On the way home it was missing occasionally...like starved for fuel or spark. At one point, I was sitting at a light and put on my turn signal, and the tach was pulsing with the flasher! It was bouncing from 1100 to 3000 when at at idle (tach reading only...not revs) So does this sound like TCI is on its way out...or could low battery from poor stator output do all that?:mo money:
  17. Sorry if this has been discussed before but I did search and couldn't find anything. Anyway, I was driving to work this morning when I came up on a very new looking Honda ST1300. As I passed him I noticed he was flashing his headlights at me. I couldn't figure out what I had done to tick him off so I just kept going. He must have sped up some because I noticed him again behind me a mile or so later and his headlights were still pulsing on and off. It became apparent that he was not doing this manually but must have installed something on his bike to do this constantly. It was extremely distracting. So my question is, has anybody heard about this and is it legal? While it may have made him more visible it was at the expense of taking my attention away from other things on the road, so I personally think it is dangerous and should not be legal, especially on the freeway where you may be riding long distances following the same vehicles. Also, I think it's just going to tick off most cagers and the last thing we need is something else to turn cagers against us. Any other thoughts?
  18. Anyone noticed that new members are welcomed in the "bug report" forum Maybe it's easier to bait them there:whistling:
  19. This has happened a few times to me. Just the other night I logged out and then turned off my computer. It was completely turned off for the nnight. My wife was logged in to her acount and noticed that it said I was logged on. Is this normal or do I kneed to change some security settings? Tahnks in advance David
  20. What no pond monsters? I wasn't able to make the Freebird MD this year ...........AGAIN but, I did so love to see the pictures posted of the Pond monster sitings which I have not noticed from the postings this year. I also missed seeing any video on 86 er's buddy Bubba. I miss his insightful ramblings as well..
  21. At a distance I noticed this Black Mustang . Got up to it it and noticed it was a Trailer Its doesnt hold much a Kooltron and 2 folding chairs
  22. I was riding home a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the CLASS system door was riding up into the wind. When I got home I found that the latch had broken off of the door somehow and now I am on the lookout for another. I found one on Flea Bay, but @ $79 + shipping, it is a little like blowing a tire in the little town with one tire shop, you know you need it, you just know you are going to pay through the nose for it. Also, I have noticed a harmonic vibration in the handlebars that is making my hands go to sleep. Any ideas? I have 5600 mile on the front tire, but the tread still looks good.
  23. I have a 2007 RSTD that has developed a problem. Usually it does not sit more than a few days but due to the weather and illness it sat for about 1 1/2 months in a cycle shelter outside. When I fired it up to ride I noticed that when riding with steady throttle the bike would lurch as if suddenly getting fuel. My guess was trash in Carbs. I ran the gas out put in a bottle of seafoam and filled up with premium and rode hard. The bike seemed to clear up but still ran a little flat. So I synched the carbs ( which I do at each oil change) I also checked and cleaned the air filters. Bike seems to run OK but I have noticed that I have lost about 10-12 MPG!!!! I did notice when I synched the carbs that the vent ports used for synching the carbs had a little fuel in them. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this???? I have double checked and resynched the carbs( they were OK) no fuel leaks, air filters clean. The engins seems to run ok so I don"t think that the plugs are bad, they were replaced about 4000 miles ago. Any suggestions on what else to check I really don"t want to go to the stealership but losing 40 miles per tank may be worth it if it comes down to it. Thanks for any help
  24. I was messing around in the trunk today and noticed that on both sides of the trunk is a "channel" and there's also a drain on the left side. Then I noticed that the trunk doesn't have a rubber seal? So is the trunk pretty much waterproof or does it leak a lot? Thanks, Wally
  25. I'm not real happy with my self canceling turn signals on my Royal Star from what I've read on other threads I don't think there is anything wrong with them. They just seem to cancel too soon or too late if I have to turn them on a second time. Maybe I will get use too the way they work as I've only had the bike a couple of weeks, but anybody else noticed they are a little quirky?
