Head set whining noise
rmiddl5474 posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have an 84 and when you plug in the head set there is a high pitched whining noise through the head set, sometimes. Sometimes it is totally clean with music or cb coming through. Any ideas? Thx for any help you can give. -
Well I have a problem with my turn signals they work on emergency flash and they burn fine when the bike is running but when I try to use the turn signal all I get is a buzzing noise from the flasher/hazard relay. Bought a used one from Pinwall cycle parts same thing buzzing noise. I attempted to clean the contacts in the switch. Is there a voltage I should look for at the main connector to the flasher/hazard relay? Thanks Jim

Well, from what I've read, the "I" basket seems to be a temporary fix to a permanent problem. And not so much a problem, but it's just the way th bike is. I'm wondering, instead of using the "I" basket fix, maybe there's a way to minimize the noise by using sound deadening material around the clutch basket externally. If doing the "I" basket is not 100%, lets find a way to at least permanently reduce the noise in all applications. Any suggestions?

Getting horrible noise through the radio in AM only. FM works fine. When engine isn't running I can't tune in anything clearly, even local station in town is fuzzy but soon as motor's running it's pure noise. Wondering as I start tearing into this problem if anyone has suggestions to check for first? can the noise filter be the problem or plugs? Major issue for me as I listen to AM radio always.

Looking for some help with a strange noise I heard this afternoon on the way home from work. It sounded like metal grinding or a bearing spinning. At the same time I heard the noise the bike pulled to the left and slowed down. I did not hear the noise with just the bike running so I think it is coming from the wheels or drive train not the engine. Does anyone know what a failed front wheel bearing might sound like? Any thoughs? I checked the front wheel for side to side play and there was none. I put the bike on the center stand and ran the back wheel up to speed but I could not duplicate the problem. Any and all thoughts would be appreaciated.

I am seriuosly considering buy a new 05 RSTD. What scares me is what I have been reading about a whining and a chirping noise that some say is really loud and aggrevating. Is this common on all RSTD bikes? I know I probably wouldn't like to hear these noises cruising at highway speeds. Some say the noise problem can be fixed, some say it will never go away. I just don't want to have to get rid of the bike soon after I buy it. I like everything else about the bike. I know all new bikes have their problems. But is this a serious enough problem to keep somebody from buying this bike? Your honest comments will be appreciated.

Coming home from work today, I heard a weird noise from the rear of the bike. At first I thought it was a brake pad dragging. Nope. Then I thought maybe something stuck to the tire. Nope. Only 250 miles on my week old RSV. Called the dealer service dept. The service man asked if it was a "creaking" noise, regaless of bike running. Yep! Taking the bike to him in the morning. He said he has seen it before. The splines to the final drive (? i think that is what he said) were not set deep enough. Anyone else have this problem? Is it safe to drive the bike the 10 miles to the service dept?

06 RSTD moans when it leans?
JeffC posted a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sounds strange, but that's what it does. Almost sounds like back tire noise, but it just started happening a few miles back. Bike has a little over 2000 miles on it. I have checked pressures, final drive oil is new (synthetic) and everything else is fine. A Roadstar buddy of mine said it was hard to hear in his half helmet, but he thought tire noise. It's easily heard in my full helmet. Do I need to take it in? -
:confused24: Since the Venture and RSTD are close to the same with brakes, I put this in this section...When almost to a stop, brakes will make a deep rubbing noise that approaches a grinding sound. It don't notice it at higher speed. Any thoughts on this one would be nice. Jim
