  1. Has anyone experienced electrical interference on their headsets when plugged into the intercom system? i am getting a ticking noise in the speakers when the engine is running. Ticking is there regardless whether using the headsets in intercom, Cb, or radio/audio mode. Any ideas or suggestions? The sets I am using are sold by Show Chrome Accessories...maybe part of the problem. Only cost $100 per set. Get what you pay for? Is there an inline noise filter available to eliminate the interference? Thanks!
  2. well as most know i had some bad health issues with knees kidney and back problems. could hardley walk. been useing a walker and moving verry little. well i had both knees injected with a new kind of shot. and one in the back? today i went from a walker back to my cane. im getttin stronger in the legs. and now the knee replacement can be put off till im 55. im going to be 53 in august. so my graduation present. is i can now move up to aqua PT i can use the pool to exersize the legs more. i tould my doctor. to please keep me on PT. as its working. i also went from 270 pounds down to 255. im shooting for 230 by MD??? i also went up and had a friend fire up the bike. in storage. it leaked a little gas out one of the carbs on the kick stand side? it allways done this since i bought the bike. a slight tap with a screwdriver and all is well? he took it for a ride of 4 miles. went to restart it and it fired up but sounds like starter clutch is getting lose/ noise up front more a whirl like noise? i did have a sticky starter switch last year but i replaced the whole grip and all with one from pinwall. lubed the cables had a hell of a time getting the cruise to work but got it. anyways just a update on how im doing.

    Noise

I dunno what I'm going to do about the clutch noise on my RSV. It came with a "G" clutch basket, the dealer installed the "I" basket, I went today and had them remove the "I" and was gonna put my old one back in. I asked if they had any other clutch baskets around and they had an "H" basket that they had replaced. I asked if they could put that in since it couldn't be any worse than the others. They did and it may have helped a tiny bit but it's still too noisy. I think that the next thing to try might be another differential. I'm thinking that some of the howling is coming from there since there's been no joy with the clutch baskets. Another Valkyrie is looking better and better......sigh....or a Victory Cross Country..... or a G'wing.

    Noise

I am looking to purchase a new Venture. I like everything about the bike. I just have a question as to engine (or transmission ) noise. I was told that because of the way that the gears are cut in a Venture, there is a lot of whine noise (loud high whine) when riding the Venture. Can anyone comment on that? Is there a lot of engine noise? Whine? Thanks:detective:
  5. Went on a nice ride from Colorado Springs to Castle Rock and back with my wife today. It was still a little chilly in the morning but afternoon wasn't too bad (except through the higher country). But we didn't need any chaps or overly heavy garments, so I count that good. Two issues I did have. 1. First time using my JM headsets...they are the original pair I got from previous owner. They seem to work well (although had to modify helmet because they were so think they pressed against my ears). The only issues is when I turn the IC up loud enough to hear well, I pick up so much wind noise it's crazy. I guess it's wind noise because I don't hear it when stopped but when going highway speeds it sounds like white noise... 2. Something's wrong with my cruise control. I turn it on, hit the set button let go of gas and it will drop 5-10 mph before trying to engage. Then it will attempt to engage but as soon as it does, it drops out of cc and the Res light comes on...I can click on the Resume button and the Res light starts to blink, but once again, as soon as I feel the cc start to kick in, it drops back out of cruise and the Res light comes on solid again...not sure what's going on...I tried it when I first got the bike from PO 6 months ago but haven't really used it since then...
  6. Well today I changed my fuel filter. Went with the F10024. Wasn't to bad took about 30 minutes. One think I noticed was how long the fuel pump ran. Before it would "click" for about 10 seconds. With the new filter it only clicked about 2 seconds. Anyhow the chicken thing. After getting the filter changed I started her up to check for leaks. While it's running I hear was sounds like a "chicken cackling" near the front of the engine. I gave her some rpms and the noise went away but came back when the rpm's came back down. I'm wonder If the noise could be the water pump? . Now for to the coolant. Should have time for that, then it's off to work. :depressed:
  7. I ride a 2008 RSTD with a Hannigan side car. I had the final drive swapped out (RMSportmax using VMAX gearing), and a Kumho rear tire installed last week. Went for my first ride Saturday. The bike rides great, but I'm now hearing a noise from the rear of the bike. It sounds like a tire noise but I'm not sure.....I want to make sure it's not the final drive. Question for those that have Kumho rear tires installed, do they sound different than standard tires? Secondly, for those that have swapped out final drives, anybody had a similar issue? Thanks, OscarV
  8. I'm trying to figure out what everything is before replacing my fuse box (I ordered the kit SkyDoc sells in classifieds). I've got a couple of items that don't make sense to me and maybe you can help. First off, there's a device that's attached to both terminals. I suspect it might be a noise reducer or some such, but it would be nice if someone knows for sure. The other is a blue wire that terminates on the Batt. + and then is connected to a White/Red wire in the main harness behind (or in front of) the battery. I disconnected it from the battery and everything 'seems' to work OK. Again, I'd appreciate any input here... http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n163/coy55boy/83%20Venture%20Royale/fusepanel.jpg
  9. When I release the clutch on my 99 RSV I get a pop or click from the master cylinder, it appears to me that it is the boot around the push-rod making the noise. I have plenty of fluid and the clutch is working fine except the noise. I never noticed it before today, however I did not have the engine running when I noticed it so it may have been around for awhile. Do I need to start thinking about rebuilding the master cylinder? Has anyone else experienced this? I am planning to change the fluid Sunday to see if that helps.
  10. I've got 34000 miles on my 2004 midnight and I just noticed a new noise coming from the left side of the engine when at idle. Almost like a scraping or squeaking a few times a second but lessens when the clutch is pulled in or in neutral. Could it be the clutch wearing out or maybe just needs adjustment? When switching from neutral into first it grabs a little but always has. Any ideas? Thanks.
  11. I have the common chirp, now I have a new sound at or above 70 it sounds like an old ford truck rear noise or a cement mixer . The dealer said it was the rear greased and realigned shafts. Noise a bit better but still there it actually sounds as if it from the front but hard to tell. On a curve when leaning it is louder . Can anyone provide any suggestions, is this common and is it safe ? 2006 rstd with 9000 miles . Thanks for any info you can provide.
  12. Hey guys, Wanted to pass a long some pics of the change over from the stock mufflers. Used the template measurements from earlier posts for the brackets and it worked great. I left the baffles intact on the RK cans for now as some guys mentioned the sound gets better with some miles - can always go back later and pop out one or both of them if I want more noise. Picked up the cans on Craiglist for $20 and $40 for the clamps so not a bad mod cost wise and took a short run yesterday and the sound is definitely better. The info on this site is invaluable - thanks to everyone. By the way '08 RSV I bought a month ago with 1600K on her - now 3600.
  13. Hope you can help me, i have an 2000 venture and have had this problem for some time, i will be talking fine on the cb and when i am not i will get this loud white noise static noise ,over the head sets and over the speakers depending what it is switched, very annoying and my riding buddy says he can hear it over his cb also, any ideas, also sometimes i have to turn the squelch up all the way. it is speratic and does not due it all the time. i do not know where to start. also when ever i talk there always seems seems to be back ground static, thanks for the help..
  14. So I was riding home and about 50 mi or so from home I started noticing a klunk when i would go from on power to off power, figured i would check it out when i got home but the bike had other ideas, i was coming around a corner and let off the gas, got back on the throttle and nothing but a BAD grinding noise, the bike seems to go in and out of all gears just fine but no power to the wheel and a bad grinding noise if put into any gear when running, can anyone tell me what i might be up aginst before i start tearing this thing apart?
  15. Hey guys, got a problem I hope y'all can help me with. I've got a set of J&M headsets in Nolen helmets. I am quite pleased with them so far, however today when riding I noted I was getting engine noise (static) through the headset. It wasn't "terrible" but was darn annoying. Anyway, while i was stopped I went to adjust the intercom volume. when I hooked my headset back up I immediately encounted an Unbelievable LOUD SHRIEK!!!! The volume of this was NOT affected by the volume control (at least that i could figure out. I disconnected/reconnect a couple times with NO luck in making it go away. I was running late for home so I disconnected and highballed back to the house. Anyway, does anybody have any ideas/suggestion concerning resolving these issues? I'd really appreciate it! THANKS!!!
  16. I just bought 2006 rstd with 30 day warranty.Returned to dealer because of noise coming from forks which really sounds like a broken spring to me.The suspension seems to work fine so service people say that its worn bushings which wouldnt be covered. Has anyone had this noise(almost like cracking sound) when pushing down on forks or hitting some bumps while riding?
  17. I have a 2008 Venture and up until now, everytime I turned the key on and moved the kill switch to the on position, I immediately heard a series of clicking noises which I presumed was the fuel relay. My battery had died and I recharged it and now it makes no clicking sound but it will start OK. Have I fried the relay or is that even what the noise was. I called the stealer and he said as long as it starts and runs it is nothing to worry about but I don't know. Please help.
  18. With help from many members here and the great documentation on the site, I put on a new set of Dunlop E3's and regreased all the necessary spots although I did not take apart the drive shaft. The hub pins were badly rusted but I didnt see any other issues. So I take it out for a ride this morning to break in the tires and I have a new problem. A new noise coming from the rear end. Its a pulsating sound that changes with speed. If I pull the clutch at any speed the noise get far louder. I dont see any marks on the tires so I assume somethign is wrong with the drive train back there. Other then this issue, there are no problems with braking, engine, power handling. Any advice is appreciated. I'll be tearing it down again this morning.
  19. I just dont seem to be having any luck this year. I finally got the new brakes working. Talk about a nightmare but we wont get into that. The bike has been in the air for about 3 weeks now while I change the rear diff, Rear shock to a Works and add the R1 brakes. Finally I got to test drive it tonight and barely made it down the block and there is a hell of a rattle and rubbing noise under the stator cover. Now it came on all of a sudden and I dont have a explaination. Last year I added a High output stator but that was a year ago. I havent taken off the cover yet so Im just looking for some Ideas and things to look for. PS if I put a screwdriver against that cover I can actually feel the hitting. What do you think?
  20. 87 venture, CB and AM radio work. FM makes static noise, but no stations pull in. Possible problem? thanks craig
  21. For those of you that like to use earphones for your MP3 player as you ride, I highly recommend the Skull Candy brand of earphones! For comparison, I have tried the Apple earbuds, and the Philips earbuds. The Philips are absolutely bad as they amplify the wind noise to unbearable. The Apple earbuds are little better. The noise level is too high to enjoy the music. The Skull Candy earbuds are inexpensive (Got mine at Staples for $19) and they BLOCK out the windnoise, so much so that at medium volume I no longer hear the bike at all, and have to feel my way thru the gears. This is while rolling down the road at 70+ with no helmet. Using them with my Scorpion Exo-100 Half Helmet was even better, as the wires weren't whipping me in the windstream. :-D ~Bill
  22. Today on my way home from work my bike learned to make a really obnoxious noise. The noise is like a heavy grinding sound coming from the rear end area. It only makes this sound when decelerating with a lot of engine braking AND application of the rear brake. It does mot make this noise with just rear brake or just engine braking. The rear pads are at about 50% wear and the rotor looks smooth on both sides. The oil level is the rear is correct. Any ideas?
  23. I know that the intercom is always hot, which means lots of road noise. Have just gotten some headsets and am really surprised how loud the wind/road noise is. Did some searches and see several possible remedies: A solution often proposed is the "mic mute" or similar product that mutes the mic until rider or passenger activates the microphones. Well and good, and seems to be well reviewed. But it seems to me that when the mic is on the issue of road and wind noise is still there. Another option would be helmet headsets that have noise canceling microphones. How well do these work and in fact, do they work to keep the background noise down? Or is that only when someone is actually talking? Finally, what about voice activated headsets? How well do they work? If the sensitivity is set to prevent the road noise do the people speaking have to shout in order to trigger the VOX? Lots of questions I know, but wonder what people think or have actually tried. Thanks in advance.
  24. Is anyone having any trouble with their Zumo motorcycle cradle. Last summer I started having trouble with a lot of noise during phone calls. Mainly the noise was with the party on the other end of the call. They were picking up a lot of noise as I would accelerate. By accident I found that if I wiggled the mic cable at the cradle connector I could influence the noise. Make it better or worse. The problem continued after I changed bikes. I checked the mic jack and it seemed fine. So I concluded that the connector in the cradle must be bad. I called Garmin with a warranty claim and they sent me a new cradle. I installed it today and everything is fine again. I researched this a bit on www.zumoforums.com and I found several complaints about the connectors on the cradle. Mainly dealing with the 3.5mm audio out connection. Garmin was good about replacing the cradle. I just worry now about what happens after warranty. This may be a weak design point. Dennis
  25. I have searched the site to death about the whine these bikes have but need a little clairification on it. Is the whine everyone talks about the gear noise when accelerating up through the gears? I get a loud whine or growl I would call it when going up through the gears, it softens up when cruising and then at higher speeds I don't hear much at all. Just checking to see if the growl is what everyone is calling a whine? I know mines not worn with only having 6,000 miles on it but just want to be sure nothing is wrong before the long summer trips. This is the first Venture I've owned since many years ago. My other bike is a Harley Road King and it makes all kinds of strange noises but that is normal for them. I have changed all my fluids except for the antifreeze which I am going to do tomorrow(can't believe I have to pull the tank to do it), and I am waiting on new tires as these are the original 2000 tires on it now. i just want to be sure I have covered everything before hitting the road. I have split the fairing and braced the windshield and repaired the tabs on the windshield chrome thanks to the info here. I have certianly gotten my money's worth out of the site already so I was glad to donate my 12.00. thanks to all who have helped me so far and I look forward to meeting some of you out there on the road one day.
