  1. We just got back from a sucessful 1,239 mile trip from Friday to Monday with the new ride. Most have seen my "tearing into the bike" thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56020 over the winter, working on the bike getting it ready for our riding season. Well I am happy to say that all of the work paid off for us. My wife and I had a great ride, no mechanical problems other than loosing a rear brake caliper cover, went back and found it. We got 35 MPG riding 2 up fully loaded. We left Grand Rapids Friday morning, and ended up in Alpena MI for Firday night. Saturday morning we rode the Mackinaw City, then to the UP out to White Fish Bay along Lake Superior, and back down to St. Ignace for the night. Sunday we rode the Lake Michigan lakeshore down to Traverse City, hit the Peninsula's and spent the night there. Monday we went down the lakeshore back to Grand Rapids, about 6PM. Only spent 30 miles on the highway, the rest was all back roads. Here are some pics: Lori and I in Travers City. http://inlinethumb14.webshots.com/48269/2803200730101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Checking in at Alpena: http://inlinethumb46.webshots.com/48173/2675728800101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Our Rides: http://inlinethumb09.webshots.com/46728/2250786870101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Bro in law Bruce and wife Carrie: http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/47194/2385049610101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Bro in law Mike and wife Viki http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/48157/2932904840101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Lori and I http://inlinethumb04.webshots.com/46723/2168497760101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Killing some Bugs in the UP: http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/45612/2246708790101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Bruce and Carrie on their Honda VTX 1300 http://inlinethumb39.webshots.com/47846/2616623040101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Mike and Viki on thier Goldwing http://inlinethumb55.webshots.com/48630/2868776040101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Crossing the Mackinaw Bridge http://inlinethumb14.webshots.com/48333/2828726390101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Sunrise out of our Motel Room in St Ignace http://inlinethumb34.webshots.com/45473/2382333160101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Store before entering into the Tunnel of Trees: http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/48457/2125772260101950171S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb39.webshots.com/44966/2851284180101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Bald Eagle flying with us for 1/2 mile http://inlinethumb64.webshots.com/48703/2091793220101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Misson Point Lighthouse http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/46210/2746093380101950171S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb50.webshots.com/45873/2613403180101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Heading south out of Traverse City: http://inlinethumb52.webshots.com/499/2904345580101950171S600x600Q85.jpg The weather was cold at times but had no rain and sunshine for most of the trip. Our seats were very comfortable but we were a little sore on the last 60 miles headed home so overall we are giving the Corbins a Thumbs Up! If you want to see the rest of the pics you can go to my webshots here http://rides.webshots.com/album/580175385SLgHDM There is some video that was taken from Mikes Goldwing Cam, I am waiting to see that and if it is any good Ill pass it along. Thanks for lookin!
  2. Like most areas, the weather in Utah has been less the cooperative for riding this spring. But the weather gods smiled upon us here this past Saturday. Friday night a couple of friends and I left the hustle of the city and headed for the mountains and central Utah desert. Friday night we spent at my in-law's place in Orangeville. Saturday morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we rode up to Joe's Valley Reservoir above town and enjoyed the cool morning air, sun and beautiful country. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Joes%20Valley%20Reservoir%20%20Ferron%20AOG/IMG_1138.jpg After the reservoir ride, we headed to fuel up, get and drink and join with 34 other bikes and a special meeting with the church youth in the area about the riding and relating the protective gear to the Armor of God Paul taught about in Eph. 6. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Joes%20Valley%20Reservoir%20%20Ferron%20AOG/IMG_1147.jpg Finally the ride home Most of the way home I noticed quite a bit of color on my arms and realized that I hadn't applied any sunscreen all day, even though the sun had been bright and temps in the mid 70's. Oh well, worth the discomfort!! After a long winter off, the bike ran great, 41 mpg (usually get 32). More rain (and some snow) today and tomorrow. Next weekend promises to be warm and sunny again. Come on Friday!! Dave
  3. We're going to stop in Las Vegas for one night on our way back from the west coast this summer. We want to take in a show that night and are not sure what to see. We are thinking about Celine Dion or Terry Fator. If you could only see one show what would it be? Dennis
  4. crockettrider hope you are ok from the storms that hit your town last night. reguards don c.
  5. Ok, if we are going to try to meet up, we need to give some detailed info on where we are coming from and what our plans are. My hopes at this time are: Leaving Johnson City, Tn at about noon on Thursday the 2nd and ride to Portsmouth, OH up US 23 to spend the night. This would be thru eastern KY. From there, on Friday morning, go up US 23 up to Dayton and hit I71 and up 58 into Oberlin. RandyA
  6. Actually, I kinda know where I am going, but thinking there might be something along the road that most people don't know about. My route... Leave Searcy, AR tomorrow morning and head up to Branson, MO to eat a BURGER and FRIES at Billy Bob's Dairyland on Hwy 76. From there, I'll ride another 30 minutes to Kimberling City to spend the night. The real journey starts at Paris Springs, MO (Gary's Sinclair on Route 66), and heading east. So anything unusual from there up to Cuba, MO which is where I am spending the night on Monday night (and eating at the Missouri Hick and staying at the Wagon Wheel Motel). On Tuesday...I'll head again East on Route 66 from just this side of St. Louis and then head back towards Arkansas down Hwy 67 South. So if ya know something cool to see...list it here. Thanks, Wally
  7. with Willie and Waylon and the Boys...and swing through Muskogee, Ok on the way, and catch a VR MD in Waller, TX on the way, and try to get obducted in Roswell, NM, and then maybe the 4 corners, and then Wolf Creek Pass a way up on the Great Divide, and meet an old friend in Colorado Springs, and then work my way back home. Should be fun. :banana:Gotta go find some serious after this long winter. Planning on leaving on Wednesday, the 23rd for a week and a half or two. Hoping to get to somewhere well west of St Louis on Wednesday night, and somewhere south of Muskogee by Thursday Night. Hope to be either to Conroe or Waller on Friday Night. We'll see how the weather co-operates with this plan. Gonna be at the S.E. Texas MD at Kregerdoodle's on the 26th and spend the night, and head to Luckenbach and stay there Sunday night. Kind of up in the air from there. Dynodon, Rick Haywood, EUSA1, anybody else, wanna meet for lunch in central IL next Wednesday?? Later, Scooter Bob

  9. I have had an intermittent problem with the HID light fron Canadian Cruiser Customizing since Jan. I have been in contact with Scott over there and while he has returned my emails right away there has been no solution. I followed all of his recommendations and initially the problem went away. The other night the light didnt work at 2 am and I depended on my LED driving lights to get home. In our first conversation Scott said its possible the ballast is bad. I raised that issue again with him this time and requested the ballast be replaced under the remaining warranty, something I requested back in Jan. He said its either bad or good and I could send it back to him for testing. He also said the wiring could be pulled too tight. Told him that the shipping cost alone back and forth would almost justify buying a new ballast. I said that it was installed properly, no stretched connections and that I knew what I was doing, in a nutshell. I also said it almost sounds like your trying to not honor the warranty. This was Sat. Like I said, he always responded within a few minutes. Its now 2 days and no response. While I hope I didnt hurt his feelings I dont enjoy going lightless at night, when I do most of my riding.
  10. Ok, I take the blame... I was bragging about how we don't get snow and cold in Victoria BC. Well, got one foot of snow at my house last night and it is freezing cold {for Victoria} ... hard on the flowers! I am sorry I bragged.....

  12. Have the motor out of the scooter do do a few enhancements on it and had a problem last night. I was able to get 15 of the 16 head studs out of the block, and literally the last one I went to do would not budge with a double nut setup. Put Red Loctite on nuts and let it cure over night, and still wasn't budging. A little more torque with a pipe wrench and it let go. I was getting concerned. Never used Loctite to disassemble something before. Gary

  15. Have you ever wondered where and how yodeling began? Many years ago a man was traveling through the mountains of Switzerland. Nightfall was rapidly approaching and he had nowhere to sleep. He went up to a farmhouse and asked the farmer if he could spend the night. The farmer told him that he could sleep in the barn. As the story goes, the farmer's daughter asked her father, "Who is that man going into the barn?" "That fellow traveling through," said the farmer. "needs a place to stay for the night, so, I told him he could sleep in the barn." The daughter said, "Perhaps he is hungry." So she prepared a plate of food for him and then took it out to the barn. About an hour later, the daughter returned. Her clothing disheveled and straw in her hair. Straight up to bed she went. The farmer's wife was very observant. She then suggested that perhaps the man was thirsty. So she fetched a bottle of wine, took it out to the barn, and she too did not return for an hour. Her clothing was askew, her blouse buttoned incorrectly. She also headed straight to bed. The next morning at sunrise the man in the barn got up and continued on his journey, waving to the farmer as he left. When the daughter awoke and learned that the visitor was gone, she broke into tears. "How could he leave without even saying goodbye," she cried. "We made such passionate love last night!" "What?" shouted the father as he angrily ran out of the house looking for the man, who by now was halfway up the mountain. The farmer screamed up at him, "I'm going to get you! You had sex with my daughter!" The man looked back down from the mountainside, cupped his hand next to his mouth, and yelled out..... "LAIDTHEOLADEETOO"
  16. Jan and I drove from Las Vegas, NV this morning to Tucson, AZ. We looked at it on mapquest last night to get a feel for the day (427 miles). When we programed the TOMTOM and headed out, Jan noticed that it showed a 100 mile longer trip than what we saw the night before. Come to find out, the unit was keeping us on the Interstates and would have taken us to Flagstaff, AZ first and then south to Phoenix, then Tucson. We remembered mapquest took us down Hwy 93 to Phoenix and once we started that way, the unit corrected itself and, poof, a hundred miles of driving disappeared. Man did we get lucky! Dave
  17. Michigan - God's Country Aug 12 - Moved to Michigan. It is so beautiful here. The hills are so serene and beautiful. Can hardly wait to see snow cover them. God's country...I love it here. Oct 14 - Michigan is the most beautiful place. The leaves are turning all different colors, I love the shades of red and orange. I went for a ride through the beautiful country side and spotted some deer, they are so graceful certainly they are the most peaceful animals on earth. This must be paradise Michigan, I love it here. Nov 11 - Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such an elegant creature. The very symbol of peace and tranquillity. Hope it will snow soon...I love it here. Dec 2 - It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed in white, it looks like a post card. We went outside and cleaned the snow off of the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight, (I won) and when the snowplow came by, we had to shovel the driveway out again. What a beautiful place. Mother nature in perfect harmony... I love Michigan. Dec 12 - More snow last night. I love it. The snowplow did his trick again (that rascal). Winter wonderland... I love it here. Dec 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work this time. I'm exhausted from shoveling. F-ing snowplow... Dec 22 - More of the white s____ fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands from all this f-ing shoveling. I think the snow plow man hides around the corner and waits till I'm done shoveling my driveway...a_ _ hole! Dec 25 - "White Christmas" my busted a$$! More friggin snow. If I ever get my hands on that son-of-a-b@#$% who drives that snow plow, I swear I'll castrate that dumb bastard. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt this f@#$%^ ice. Dec 28 - More white s@#$ fell last night. Been inside since Christmas Day, except for shoveling out the driveway after "Snow Plow Harry" comes by, prick...g_ _-d_ _ _ car is behind a ton of snow. The weatherman said to expect another 10 inches of s@#$ tonight. Do you know how many shovels of snow 10 inches is? Jan 1 - Happy F@#$%^$ New Year. The weatherman was wrong (again.) We didn't get 10" last night, we got 34", stupid a_ _ weatherman anyway. At this rate it won't melt before the 4th of July. The snow plow got stuck up the road and the s@#$head had the balls to come to the door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him I've broken 6 shovels already, shoveling all the sh@# he pushed into my driveway, I broke the last one over his f@#$%$ head. Jan 4 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food, on the way back a g@#d@#$ deer ran in front of me. I hit the bastard and tore my car all to hell. Did $3,000 in damages. Those f@#$%^$ beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters had killed all of them last November. May 3 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing rotted out from all the f@#$%^$ salt they keep dumping all over the road. Car looks like a piece of s@#$. May 10 - Moved back to Virginia, I can't imagine why anyone in their right f@#$%^$ mind would ever want to live in this g@#-forsaken place called Michigan. Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable

  19. Well the time has come and I am going to give up being a OTR owner operator. I will be leaving Thur. to take my lease truck back to Mn. and turn it in. I landed a dedicated run here 1 mile from the house home every night and no weekends. It will end up about 11 hours a day and $975.00 a week I think it was a good deal so I jumped on it. LESS STRESS. :dancefool:

  21. I have been thinking of going this year, any information would be helpful. Either tent camping or motel, wondering which would be best. Though of bring my camping gear but staying at a motel during the show. Thought maybe the rowdy's might make camping less fun. Twas the night before Christmas when all through the garages Not a motorcycle was rumbling, except for Santa Claus' The leather was hung in the closet with care In hopes that nice weather, soon would be there Our bikes were all nestled snug in their covers With visions of blacktop and burning up rubber With momma in her bandana and I in my skull cap We had settled down for a long winters nap When:Venture: out on the lawn, arose such a rumble I sprang fron the bed as I started to grumble When what to my wondering eyes should appear Was a pack of motorcycles, with riders and gear, With one old driver so lively and quick I knew in amoment it must be biker St. Nick He was dressed alll in leather, from from his head to his foot His clothes were all tarnished with bugs and road soot A bundle of chrome he had flung on his back Down the chimney he came, carrying a big red sack He spoke not a word but went straight to his work As he filled all the riding boots, then turned with a jerk, And laying a finger aside of his nose, And giving a nod,up the chimney he rose He sprang to his motorcycle,to his team gave a sign As they cracked there throttles and got into line, Now Honda,Now Harley,Now Triumph, and Indian On Kawi,On Suzuki,On Yamaha Venture and Victory, But I heard him exclaim as he roared out of sight Keep the rubber side down and have a good ride Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPLY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY VENTURE RIDER MENBERS
  23. It's a 1999 Green one, 4,955 miles on it, got it for $1,650. Hopefully we got enough snow last night to get the trails opened up around here! Later, Scooter Bob
  24. Took my new GL1800 in for the first service seems, no one there knows if the multi information display has panel lights that work at night. All my other panel controls light up, but my seat and grip heater along with the four display buttons do not light up. Cant see them at night. Is this normal or should they light up at night. My 1st service cost 195.00 will not be doing that every four months thats for sure. Will there be any problems with my warranty if i do my own service on the bike. Took care of my 05 RSTD got that one used with 2 years left on the warranty.Just dont want void anything. Has anyone updated there navigation system, just got the bike 10 days ago first nav i ever had. Other then that this is one great motorcycle seems to get better with each ride
  25. Well after 4 trips to the shop they tell me they found out why my bike battery was going dead from 60 to 100 miles. They said the stater coil is bad now. They had checked it before and said it was good. But they said the leads are not putting out the same one leg was 18 volts AC one 30 and the other 40 volts. They are having one shipped end over night and said the bike would be ready Friday. I have high hopes this is it. well it almost has to be, they changed out the battery, the rectifier regulator, they have to hit it sooner or later.
