  1. Well, this is our last full day of vacation. It seems like forever since I have been home. After a week of sales meetings at our company resort in Wisconsin, I got home last Friday night and spent the night at home before leaving for Lake Cumberland in Kentucky at 5:00 on Saturday morning. We have been on a houseboat on Lake Cumberland since last Saturday. Tomorrow we turn the boat in and head back home. It has been quite an experience for me. This was all Eileen's idea. She felt that I needed to get away from civilization for a while and get some rest. She thought that being on the lake with no TV, Internet, etc. would be good for me. Well, I cheated on the Internet. Tethering my Blackberry to my laptop gets me a connection. Not a FAST connection but it could be worse. I've been good though and only checked email and the site a couple of times a day. After our first day here, I thought that I was going to go completely stir crazy. I couldn't even imagine spending a week here with no fast internet and etc. Then a strange thing happened. I actually started relaxing a little bit. I found that I could actually sit on the front deck of the boat, watch nature, fish a little bit and actually feel fairly content. Now I've reached the point that I actually am not looking forward to returning to civilization. So tomorrow night, we will be home again. The only thing that I'm NOT going to miss is the approximately $200.00 per day that this boat sucks up in gas. That is in spite of the fact that we have spend most of the time docked in secluded coves.
  2. Steve, if your up in the area can you see if the US-1 restaurant (the old sly fox) in S. Daytona is still open? A friend tried going there Friday night and it was closed. He said it didnt look abandoned but had a closed sign in the window. Kinda unusual for a Fri night. Dont make a special trip but if you just happen to head north, please check it out. Thanks, Jeff:smile5:
  3. Who won the game last night? The Deadskins or the Cowgirls
  4. Well, I have 8 states of BBQ left to fulfill my Smoke Chasing requirement. http://www.teamstrange.com/2011/scgt/ Been lazy about it all summer, and now I need to finish it up this weekend. Heading out Friday afternoon and hitting an early dinner at Dickey's BBQ Pit in Davenport, IA and a late night snack at the Dr. of BBQ in Springfield, IL. Sat. breakfast at Ray's in West Memphis, AR, lunch at Central BBQ in Memphis, TN, and afternoon snack at BBQ By Jim in Tupelo, MS. Early dinner will be at Jacks in Florence. AL, with the late night meal at Jack's in Nashville, TN. Sunday morning will start with breakfast at BBQ Inn, Bowling Green, KY and a quick lunch at Wolf's BBQ in Evansville, IN. Friday night will be staying somewhere south of St Louis, Saturday night somewhere between Nashville and Bowling Green. Streets and Trips shows it at 1770 miles. Shouldn't have any difficulty with the mileage as long as I can keep the... ahhem..rest stops to a minimum. Should be at Central BBQ at noon on Saturday if anybody would care to join me. I won't be staying to chat much after the meal, but would enjoy meeting some of the southern contingent. And, yes, I realize there are 9 BBQ Joints on the list. Never know if one is closed. RR
  5. What a beautiful ride we had this weekend! Met up with Riderduke and TC Friday night in Ashville. On Saturday early morning, Eck joined us after working his Friday shift and riding all night from Charleston. We rode the Blue Ridge Mountains, ate at Pisgah Inn with a gorgeous view of the mountains, (loved all the tunnels), rode through Cherokee, had to stop at DQ. We also saw five hot air balloons in air along the ride. Off through Robinsonville on Highway 74 with a ton of bikes and then onto the Cherohala Skyway. Ran into a little rain along the way but dried out soon! From there we went through Blairsville and then into Elliajay for dinner at Colonel Pooles. After dinner, we took off for Stone Mountain. We checked into the hotel at 9:45 p.m.! Eck was ready for a rest as we were as well! Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Metro Cafe in Snellville and then off to Blackjack's to meet up with Terry and Janis, Muffinman and Margaret. Sling and Peggy arrived not too long after. Konnie, Eck's wife met us at Provinos. Then Gray Ghost and his wife and another couple arrived to join us for lunch. It was a great place to eat! We left with Eck and Konnie, Rick and Peggy. We got home last night around 7:45 and just taking it easy today! Here are a few pictures! http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic/2011/Sleeperhawk%20Mechanics%2020110903%20Georgia/
  6. Final packing and bike prep for our journey from GA to DC and PA for the 9/11 memorial events. So far we have 8 bikes and 11 riders. 1st stop - Harrisonburg VA for the night on Thursday, then on to Bucks County PA (Gardens of Reflection) by way of DC. Several rides and events are planned there over the weekend with the Warriors Watch Riders, along with the massive "bike night" in Lansdale PA on Saturday, which is expecting 15,000 bikes. Heading back to GA on Monday with a stop somewhere in southern VA, then home by Tuesday afternoon. Other side trips while there to include a swing up to the Naval Air Station in Lakehurst NJ, a visit to New Hope PA to see the parents of Sgt. Jennifer Hartman (killed in Iraq 11/06), and a ride with a 9/11 survivor group of bikers from north Jersey (which includes my brother, who escaped the attack on the South Tower). This will be a tremendous trip to honor and remember the heroes and victims of 9/11. While we would like to get to the ceremonies in NYC and/or Shankesville PA, there just isn't time to do it all. Working the beads tonight praying for good weather. Not looking great right now, but hopefully it will all clear out by the time we get up there. Bon voyage......
  7. So i keep my bike outside due to no garage or shed. In the winter I will be keeping it under the cover all week till my polar bear rides on sundays. I have noticed a few problems and wonder if anything is serious. My starter button needs to be hit a few times before it angages. no click . its just that the switch. i will dissasemble and clean and lube. the front wheel has been making a lobing squeak. noticeable at a gas station when doing 5 MPH squeak squeak squeak. faster as I go faster. i didnt think anything of it until I got into a heavy lean last night where I didnt want to accelerate anymore and I heard no squeaking but an undescribeable sound comming from the wheel when I turned right. Could this be my wheel bearings going or do they need to be lubed. There was less noise when leaning to the left and nothing when going straight down the road except for the SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK
  8. I want to add lights to the front and back of my 2006 Royal Star Venture any suggestions? All I have on the bike right now are the stock lights that came on it and I've been told that I'm not very visable at night. I have installed a blinking headlight module and that really helps with catching peoples attention during the day but not usable at night.
  9. I have the bike and trailer packed and plan on leaving around 7am. I want to make it somewhere in southern Georgia and camp for the night before I head to Vogel I hope everything goes well and there are no hiccups. Tom
  10. Some of the members here know that Rob Wynn (aamcotrans formerly) is en route back to Virginia. He just called me outside Montgomery Alabama and is heading towards Atlanta GA on I85. If anyone in that stretch of highway has a spare chunk of floor or such that he could use for the night could you please call or text him on his cell, the # is 540 671 9330. He is house broken and and besides just being ugly, is a decent fella, we've had him here at the house several times spending the night. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help him out
  11. Drawing was Wed night....so who won??

  13. STAR Touring annual STAR Days is in Madison, WI next week. Just wondering who from VR forums is going. Three of us from SC STAR chapters are going, headed out Saturday. About 1000 miles each way. If it ain't RAINING, we will HEAD up through Clemson, Hwy 28 to the Dragon, spend the night north of there. Sunday morning, more mountain roads through TN to Louisville. On through Indy, to around Champaign, IL for the night, then to Madison Monday AM. Doing straight interstate back on the following Fri-Sat. I did see a post in a post saying they were going. Anyhow, anyone else going? And, hey, even if you aren't a member, swing by to see what's happening, including vendors. Hey Wanderer, yep, I'm taking the Venture-Dream. Mike G in SC
  14. Saturday morning we head out of Utah on the way to STAR Days in Middleton, WI. Our route should take us out on I-80 across Wyoming and in to Nebraska. The first night, we will stay in Sidney, NB and the second night we will stay in Clive, IA. I expect that this stretch will be more of an endurance ride than a pleasure cruise. My question is, does anyone know of any "can't miss" sights along our way to Middleton? I'm pretty sure that it's just prairies and fields of corn, right? On the way back, we're going out on I-90 across Iowa and South Dakota, and then down through Wyoming. I don't expect that there is much to see in Iowa or until we get to the Black Hills area is there? I just don't like to miss seeing the fun stuff along the way. Anyone else here going to STAR Days? I understand that it probably conflicts with the Cody Rally, but maybe we can go to that next year. Thanks guys! Be Safe! Pete.
  15. I just read the post from flyinfool, didn't do any of that! It's been three years and Leslie finally agreed to go for a short ride with a couple of friends of ours. We went out last night, staying on secondary roads, riding for about an hour. I wouldn't say she is a big fan, but said she may go out again. Her friend Ann mentioned taking a trip up island.
  16. Last night I had a hard time falling asleep. No idea why. And I was up a few times during the night which is also not normal for me. This morning I got woke up early feeling really cold and clammy. While lying in that half awake state trying to figure out just what was going on, is when I noticed that everything around me was soaked. The sheets, blanket, pillow, everything. So now I am trying to figure out if I just had night sweats or heaven forbid, did I wet the bed..... Well that thought got me out of the half awake state and into a get the heck out of the bed quick state and head for the shower. But wait no that would be a bad idea since I still need to strip all up the bedding and get it down in the wash. I should do that BEFORE I take a shower. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I am not a morning person, just because my body is up and moving does not mean that my brain is up and/or functioning. So I run all of the bedding down to the basement and toss the first load into the wash machine (with no phones included,,,,,sorry:stickpoke:) well now the wash machine is filling so I certainly do not want to get in the shower with the hot water turning on and off. So I grab some cleaning stuff to clean up the mattress. First I dried if off as best I could with some towels and took those down to the basement. when I got back up stairs and was about to start scrubbing the mattress, its like WTF it is all wet again. so I grab some more towels and dry it off again. and this time just start to clean it right away. WTF again there is a little squirt of liquid that shoots up out of the mattress toward the headboard. That is when it finally dawns on me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tonight I get to go shopping for a new king size waterbed mattress to replace this 34 year old one....... It sure is a good thing that Erika is still not home with her bum foot yet. We would have been accusing each other of wetting the bed, and that old water on her bum foot would have been really bad news.
  17. Greetings fellow Venturers. Today is the 18th. of June and me and Greta are visiting a dear friend in Woodstock Ny. 19. While this tip would be most effective for those who don't park their car in garage, it still could be effective for cars parked in garage, as alarm would still be heard in driveway, although it would not be as loud. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for your car.The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound until either you turn it off or the car battery dies. This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway or garage. If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into your house, odds are the burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This is something that should really be shared with everyone Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.
  20. An elderly man is stopped by the police around 1 a. m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night. The man replies, "I am going to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body." The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?" The man replies, "That would be my wife."
  21. Seems I've hardly been able to catch my breath since maintenance day. Had just enough time on Sunday evening and Monday morning to sort of get things put away and then had to leave for Indianapolis to set up for a trade show. The show lasted through Saturday at 4:00 and then by the time I got the booth torn down and packed up and made the 5 hour drive home, I got here about 11:30 last night. Now I'm home today but have to leave for a week in the DuBois and State College area of Pennsylvania first thing tomorrow morning. I tell you, I am really tired of the constant travel and would love to find a good job that would allow me to be home every night but in this economy and at my age, that's not likely so "I owe, I owe so off to work I go". Due to the show and etc., haven't been on much since maintenance day but hopefully things will start calming down a bit now. I did manage to get two new tires ordered this week and called Chad at Pioneer to take advantage of the good deal that he is offering on brake pads so they are on the way to me also. I intended to pick them up while he was here but completely forgot about them. Looks like it's going to rain here today so about all I can do is stay in the house and rest. I'm not too disappointed in that.
  22. Well, Now that I got some sleep, I left MD on Saturday afternoon rode to Detroit to see family then left there on Sunday night to go home to Texas made it to Findlay,OH. for the night filled up at 7 am for the 1200 mile trip back. I made it all 1200 miles in 22 hours,so this was my first saddle sore. I need to send all documentation to the IBA hopefully they will allow this.... I have all receipts and a final witness but no start witness, I forgot to ask someone... Just want to thank Don and Eileen for putting on such a great time!!!!
  23. My girlfriend is unable to go to MD with me so... if anyone wants to share a room I have one booked at the Quality Inn for Friday and Saturday night. I'll be at the dinner Friday night or depending on the time you arrive you can ask for me at the hotel. PM me and I'll get it on my Blackberry if you are interested. I should mention... it is a smoking room that is reserved. Don Tohivsky
  24. I've been thinking about moving some lights around as well as replacing my old old fog lights with some more up to date LED night time driving lights. I've found these: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=TRUCK&Page2Disp=/specs/wlcwhp10_specs.htm the frontal area of the S25 model is basically the same as my current lights but they are less then half as deep. I am thinking of having these on a separate switch and just turn them on at night when I need/want the extra light. I do have Squid's bracket s to put them on. Anyone have these, and what are your impressions ?? I also have some amber LED marker/daytime running lights under the sidecar which I want to move to the bike and hook into the headlamp/front turnsignals, after which i want to put something like these under the sidecar: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2Fdrlcw8hf_specs.htm#photos I think that if i do all that I should theoretically have enough light up front
  25. oldgoat

    im sad

I found out that social security made a mistake on my monthly payments. and im going to lose a few $$$ i wont be able to make it to freebirds for MD this year. last year it cost me just a little over $300. to spend 2 days there and that was not bad this included one night at the oberlin INN and i spent one night sleeping at freebirds in my car. so with the wedding trip to MN this 18th to 24th of may i will be tapped out for the month of june after rent and basic needs i will be dead broke till july. i will miss seeing all of you. have fun and enjoy.
