  1. Last night after riding my '83 VR about 8 miles and watching my gas gage go from 3 bars to empty, I thought I better investigate. I pulled the cover off of the breather box so I could see the carbs. I noticed that when I rev the engine up that the slides are not moving very much. I can also see a lot of gas on top of the butterflies. I guess my question is, how much should the slides move? It seems to run very well out on the road but now I wonder how much better is should run. When I first crank it up after setting over night, it takes a few minutes for it to start hitting on all cylinders. This may be due to flooding. It starts very easy with no choke. I have checked the diaphragms and don't see any pin holes but they are very wrinkled looking. I really need help. Thanks in advance.
  2. I know from time to time riders are looking for a cheap trailer, I'm one of them, I've been looking for about 9 months, and had settled on getting a small trailer and building one & then last night I find a gem... now it is on back order, BUT i'm in no hurry.. http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-accessories/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html
  3. No not VRO!!! We are leaving home, Wednesday May 30th, headed to Maintenance Day. We plan to stay with relatives in Hopkinsville, KY that Wednesday night. Thursday morning, we plan to meet B2Mom and Dad somewhere east of exit 38 on the Western Ky Parkway. We will probably stop for the night Thursday "somewhere" north of Louisville and ride to Oberlin Friday morning. Anybody wanna tag along???
  4. I stopped down in Missouri the other day and dropped into see my x bro-in-law. Been a long time since we have had a chance to sit down and visit. We used to get together a lot and could spend all night swapping guitars and BSing. He was a hell of a picker and he was a huge fan of the Gretsch line. He owns a White Falcon and a Country Gent and a couple other tucked way I can't remember the names of. For those of you familiar with those guitars you know the sound. It's all its own. I can't remember how many times I would just stop playing and let him roll on by himself. I'd leave the deck running and record him. He never belived it was him when he heard the tapes play back. But he was saying there was the Gretsch Roundup down in KC. It's kind of a massive jam session for the Gretsch bunch. Bring your guitar and jump on in. He had been thinking about going but didn't feel up to it. I razzed him about getting out and do something for himself for a day and just go. I left him with a little jazzin' about slacking off and hoped he went. So today I came home and found an e-mail from him. He went. He was a bit wired as not only did he go but had some good news. Part of his e-mail: Last but not least.........................I won the Grand Prize for the night. A brand new Gretsch Electromatic. This guitar was just built, shipped from the factory to Gretsch Corporate, photographed for the upcoming new Gretsch catalog, and shipped to KC for the Roundup. It's a new model, white 16" body, double cut, large "f" holes, and a pair of Electromatic Filters..... and a Bigsby with all gold hardware These aren't getting to the streets until July, and haven't even been released or announced to the public yet. Last night was the unveiling of this new line. Now get this *&^%....................the last 3 digits of the s/n are "000". I just about crapped myself Mike. Winning something like this was just crazy, but to also have the "000" is pretty special. Some poor guy will think his number "001" is the first. LOL..............I'll have that pleasure thanks to you LOL I think he had a good day. Mike

  7. Hey folks...the meet n eat is just over 2 weeks away. I need a head count so we know how much food to have. If you prefer bar.b.q over fish, let me know that too. also need to know if you are going to make it for dinner Friday night so we can give the restaurant a head count. You can post here or on the calendar. If you have already posted that you are coming and if you are going to dinner Fri, then you don't have to post again. can't wait to see everyone! Don and Patti

  9. I anyone is coming through Illinois headed to Don's in Oberlin and need a place to crash for the night you are welcome at our house
  10. Has everyone turned in their completed Tax forms? Ron and I will be married 40 years in June. During this time, we have ridden our Honda 350 and also our Honda 500 downtown April 14th, about 11:30 at night many times. They used to have this poor Postal Worker standing there with this huge mail dumpster. We were not alone, there usually was a large stream of cars. Usually we were the only motorcycle. As we have grown older, I did notice procrastination could possibly be entering the picture. I have mentioned several times, that sense he is retired, he could figure out the paperwork perhaps in February or March. This way he would not have to stay inside working at the kitchen table with his calculator to the wee hours of the morning. He agreed completely. Last night, he was up until after Midnight. The kitchen table is covered with papers. He somehow lost our son's paperwork, but then it was found somewhere else in the house. I am not one to say, I TOLD YOU SO! No really I did not say it. I just smile and go outside. Yama Mama:smile5:
  11. The Night Nurse...the more you think about this one, the funnier it gets. Short & sweet, A very tired nurse walks into a bank, totally exhausted after an18-hour shift. Preparing to write a check, she pulls a rectal thermometer out of her purse and tries to write with it. When she realizes her mistake, she looks at the flabbergasted teller, and without missing a beat, she says: 'Well, that's great....that's just great ..........some a***ole's got my pen!:shock3:
  12. I wasn't going to do a trip thread this time, since this is a lot like what I did last year, but Karen doesn't visit this site much, and needs to know where to look to find me. So here goes... Bike is already loaded. Planning to leave from work tomorrow afternoon and riding down to Rick Haywood and Shirley's for a little BS'n and maybe a few beers, and a place to crash. Wednesday's plan is to head south to Sparta, IL to visit an antique engine collector and then get near (but not into) Memphis for the night. Thursday's plan is a ride over to SW Arkansas and spend the night at Playboy's place. Friday's plan is to ride with Playboy to the SE TX MD at Kregerdoodle's and maybe stop and see another antique engine collection in Tatum, TX along the way. Planning to stay at the MD till Sunday morning. Then it's off to Luckenbach for Sunday afternoon music, probably ride around the hills Monday and spend another night in Luckenbach. (I really enjoyed Luckenbach last year, can ya tell ) Probably start heading back northerly on Tuesday morning, and wander my way back towards home the rest of the week. Maybe see you on the road, Scooter Bob
  13. I've never really been a fan of Facebook because I feel it is just too intrusive into our lives. I have an account with a few friends that I don't really use or post on. I look at it once every couple of weeks and see updates such as info on an aquaitances kid's last bowel movement or similar dribble. Here is something I discoverd today and you facebook users may already be aware of it. I was having lunch with coworkers which included my manager which is nothing unusual since we do that most days and we're all friends. Today my manager is looking at his phone and he says "I see you read a couple of articles last night". I questioned him about that and apparently Facebook had shared with him what I read off of Yahoo last night. He quoted me 4 topics which were correct, I had read them. Now I find this a real invasion of privacy. Since he saw that I have to assume all of my other "friends" saw it too. Now what I read wasn't anything significant, just Yahoo headlines. However, had I been searching for a new job or reading how to deal with managers, etc. That could have been awkward. If I read something of interest and feel it is worthy I'll mention it to my friends. I don't need Facebook automating that for me. So tonight I have gone into Yahoo and Facebook and turned on or off any security setting I could find that shares any information about my online activity. And if I find that doesn't fix it I'll delete my Facebook account. Dennis
  14. .....I lost my mom to cancer. I sat up with her all night, holding her hand as she slowly slipped away, finally passing at 4am that morning, 15MAR 1989. Every year since, I stay up all night as I did that night and think of how lucky my brothers and sisters and I were to have had such wonderful parents that raised us right. Sometimes my kids would stay up all night with me and we'd tell stories and look at pictures, but they would eventually fall asleep and I would once again be alone with just my thoughts and memories. Tonight is no different, as the wife is fast asleep, and it's just me and mom. If she were here, she'd smack me upside the head and tell me to go to bed, but now I sort of get the feeling that she kind of looks forward to our once-a-year vigil on this special and sad day. I sure do miss her. If you still have any of your parents with you, keep building some memories with them. You never know what tomorrow will bring, or how those good memories will sustain you down the road. Time to make some hot tea and break out the picture books.......
  15. So is it possible to blow "both" bulbs on my passing light assembly. I started the bike yesterday ...and no passing lamps( i wired them to stay on day and night)...i know one of you can help me with this.
  16. I got the valentines day gift out of the way early.Dinner and a Blake Shelton Concert Friday night in Charleston. Now I think I'm covered till Easter.
  17. Work on the bikes, and swap starters in the cold. Or sit around eat and watch tv all night long?
  18. Mine wants a new air horn, vented wind screen and new mirrors. Letter sent to Santa last night!
  19. May we all remember what sacrifices our military are making, and say thank you to one of them if you see them out and about, and make sure we all thank them during the entire year. Christmas Poem TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY THE MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, 'SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.' THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, 'CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.' ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. 'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,! AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.' This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable..... PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men, women, and Canadian Forces for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed. Robert Rahn Afghanistan Police Mission Kabul Afghanistan rjjammer
  20. If you have ten minutes of time, and you want to take my 30 question trully exciting market survey. I'd appreciate it. It is for college credit, and not for profit. Results are anonomous. I plan to download the data Sat night so I can spend next week writing my report. http://mtubusiness.us2.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_8ohC4XobFwKOFKc thanks sorry for spamming the board
  21. I won this helmet at the STAR Midwest event last weekend in Indianapolis. Black, new, size XL, normally I wear a Large, but the person offering the item for the charity auction said it ran small, so I tried it on and it was a great fit. Here is my review after a nice one hour ride last night: I got to try out the Shark Evoline helmet last night. This is a heavy helmet, I feel it and the weight naturally shifts depending on where you have the chin bar, feels best with the bar back, but I don't think it will be a problem in either case. I had it on for an hour and it was fine. Weight was one of the worse comments about this helmet that I have read in reviews, I don't think it will be a problem for most people. But most important, it was the best helmet I have ever had for the least amount of air buffeting or wind noise/blast. With the bar back and the shield up, it was a nice flow of air around the face, with the shield down, there was a noticeable slow flow under it but not up into the eyes. With the bar in front position and the shield open, there was a little air around the face, and with the shield down, I could only feel a tiny tickle on the bottom of my beard. That was the important test, because if the helmet let a LOT of air up inside around the chin/mouth/eyes with the bar down and the shield closed it would be hard to stay warm in winter, but this promises to be a very comfortable and warm helmet in winter, with convertible features and usefulness well into spring and starting early fall. Yesterday it was totally comfortable. NOTE: temp about 67, winds calm. Bike: 89 VR with Baker wind wings and stock windshield. Most helmets put a lot of air up under the shield on this bike. Speeds, city to 55 country to 70+ mph highway. So now I look for a headset system for it.
  22. Doreen and I went to the Royal River Casino in Flandreau, SD on Saturday night. We saw a GREAT concert! On your feet or on your knees, ladies and gentlemen, Blue Oyster Cult! Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma from the origianal line up were still rocking out. They were joined by Rudy Sarzo on bass (formerly with Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio, Quiet Riot and White Snake), Richie Castellano, from Staten Island, NY, on guitar and keyboards, and Jules Radino, from Long Island, NY, on drums. It was a great time. they sounded as good as I remember the albums from back in the day. These guys were really on fire! :225: To top it all off, prior to the show, I put a $20.00 in a penny electronic slot machine and after the 20 free spins I won, I walked away with over $100 in profit! I did just what the Steve Miller Band suggested, take the money and run! The casino in Flandreau is booking some bigger name acts in an attemp to compete with a brand new casino in Larchwood, Ia. Both have had some good shows recently. We are looking forward to more. Hope everyone else had a good weekend as well! Dave
  23. Been home from work the last 4 days. The right knee that I had surgery on less than 2 years ago is failing. Im scared to get the knee replacement I need. Several friends who have had it are now having scar tissue problems along with mobility issues. Right now riding is out of the question. Had to take 4000 mg of naproxen last friday just to get through the night at work, which is causing some other issues. Thats 3000mg more then recommended. Selling the bike was also a thought, fleeting as it may have been. So, I have some major thinking to do...... Now, where are my drugs......

  25. Here is some footage from the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot last night. Fast forward to about the 50 second mark to skip the safety talk. I was lucky enough to be against the fence behind the shooters, the front row.
