  1. My wife loves to ride but her big hang up is helmet hair. now she has short hair and she has tried do rags & all but when we go in anywhere she ends up putting on a cap. She fusses and says "I don't ALWAYS want to have to wear a cap, I do like to look nice for u " which I"m thankful & heck she'd look good in a paper sack, okay to my question... How do u ladies deal with helmet hair?
  2. My ride from Seattle to Las Vegas is on. Needs some suggestions. 1) What bag fits nice on the rear trunk rack, and from the reads I found that 10 lbs is the recommended limit. 2) What bag fits nice on the passenger seat being that I'm riding single. I need this bag to fold flat so I can store it in the rear trunk for my wife will be traveling with me on the return ride from Las Vegas to Vacaville.
  3. Has any one here used MRF for roadside assistance and what is your thoughts on them. I am looking at putting a lot of miles on my bike this year and it would be nice to know that there is somebody you can call when you are far from home in case you run into a problem.
  4. Ron and I have been walking at the county park near our home every evening. Last night, we see a guy sitting on a First Gen in the parking lot. Naturally, we go over to meet him. He is a really great guy and he had never heard of our group. So of course, we told him all about the VentureRiders and he was really interested in joining. So Ted, if you read this, it was really nice meeting you. Yama Mama
  5. There is something in there that sounds like a little rock or a marble. How do I get it out of there. I havent taken one of these apart the outer part is in nice shape so it would be nice to keep it. I took it off flipped it around shook it and it wont come out of there. Thanks Orlin
  6. When I posted this last set of auctions, I put a reserve of $10.00 on them, that way if they didnt make reserve they would automatically relist, what I didnt know was when they relisted it did so for anywhere from 160 days down to 58 days, I will not let them run that long, all the auctions that are still open will be ending this Saturday, May 26. So you still have a little time to bid, this is the end of the shirts, pins and hats. I wont have any more for a while. I have a source that may have some leftover and I will see if I can get them, if I do I will post and so the auctions differently. Thanks for all your support of the kids at St. Jude. With the money you folks have bid and the very very nice check that the B2's presented me with at their M&E, we will have a very nice donation, nothing approaching last years, but a respectable one, which we will be presenting in person in late Sept. or early Oct. Thanks again to everyone who donated, bid, and supported St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.:clap2::clap2:
  7. So... after a crappy day of "stuff" Ironhorse Ike and his son-in-law show up at my house late afternoon. They want to ride up the the top of the Catalina Mountains and back...about an 80 mile round trip to around 11,000 foot elevation. Nice and cool for around here. I'm busy and ticked off at some idiot at a Sprint store 2250 miles away..( long story) and too "busy" to go. The wife decides I need to go and basically kicks my butt out the door with them. Fast forward... we are at the top of the mountain getting a drink when a car drives up behind our bikes. The driver and Ike start to talk and the next thing I hear the driver ask is.. One of you guys KIC ? I'm thinking " dang.. that America's Most Wanted " thing works... Of course Ike immediate points to me in his fastest "Not me It's him" manner. Turns out it was DarkLeftArm and his obviously better half. It was nice to meet another Venture rider ( even if he does ride a 2nd Gen ) I'm sure we will be getting together for more rides soon.
  8. just wondering if anyone is riding the U.P. cruise this weekend? looks like a nice ride. heres a link:http://www.upcruising.com/?redcross.
  9. this can be a very useful tool when used properly. i know that things change and can't be helped but it sure would make it easier if it was used more. i don't think anyones asking for blood just a little help. i know when your trying to cater a meal it makes it nice if you have a rough idea of how many people to look for,I'm just saying. have a blessed day.
  10. Got out for a ride with my wife and daughter today. I asked Jeannie what she wanted to do, she said a ride to DQ was all We enjoyed an ice cream then across the street to take in the local car cruise an hour there then a nice ride around the GM proving grounds, ending up at our son's home for pizza with the family. A great day
  11. Well, I'm the proud owner of a brand new Harley Electra Glide Ultra Classic but it was tough to part with the RSTD. It was a nice bike and very mechanically sound. It had everything I wanted at the time of purchase but as the years went by I found I wanted more. Alas, I just can't bring myselft to upgrade to the Venture knowing Yamaha hasn't done anything to really update or improve it in years. I'm not bashing - please don't think I am. They are really great bikes. I just decided they aren't my cup of tea. So, I intend to hang around this forum so I can continue to learn from a very knowledgable group of riders. I know there are a few out there that ride HD's. So, I'll become one of the few. Below is a pic of my new ride. It's Ember Red Sunglo in color. In the sunlight it sparkles with gold flecks. It's really nice paint. This picture doesn't do it much justice but you get the idea. Keep it between the ditches everyone. Les
  12. First and foremost, I'd like to extend a REALLY BIG THANK YOU to Rick Butler. The work he did on my seat over the winter has turned out absolutely perfect. I put 210 miles on the bike today without the slightest concern for the well-being of my arse. I feel no different than had I been sitting on my couch all day watching football (and I know how that feels). I very highly recommend Ricks services to anyone on this site who may have the least bit of discomfort from a long day of riding. ...and now... dum, dum, dum... I decided to take a Harley around the "country" block today just to see what everyone's talking about. It was a 2010 UC Limited with a 103 cu in motor. I'll start by saying it had lots of torque, which I thought was awesome, but my excitement pretty much stopped there. Other than the fact that it was very well made (fit and finish was really nice), I just didn't like the feel. The very first thing I noticed was how far the floor boards were set "into" the bike. It seemed like I was setting bow-legged on the bike just to keep my feet flat on the floor board. The shift lever also felt like it was sucked in toward the motor making the movement of the toe to shift feel strange. Once the ride started, my discomfort increased ten fold. My arms were locked at the elbows and I felt hunched over to reach the grips. I also felt like I was sitting really close to the fairing - almost on top of the tank. Finally, when stopped the vibrations were a bit more than I could deal with. Just didn't like the shake at all. Although at anything above 10mph I couldn't feel any shaking at all. So, that was nice. All in all, I don't believe HD is for me. I'm not trying to knock them down because they really do produce a nice product and I believe Yamaha could learn a few things from them, but they're just not my cup of tea. ...I'll be honest: I was kind of hoping they would be. There are soooo many options, accessories and colors available for HD that the possibilities for customization seem endless. There's nowhere near as much stuff out there for us, IMHO. So, bottom line - THANK YOU RICK BUTLER and NO THANK YOU HD.
  13. Had a great long weekend with the wife and some friends at Thunder Beach Spring Bike Week in Panama City Beach FL. My first one, and it was quite the experience. The weather was awesome while there (not so great coming home!), the visual experience was "interesting" (I'll leave it at that!), and we met some really terrific people. Overall, it was pretty much what I expected. Local media put the numbers at between 75,000 and 80,000 bikes and 100,000+ visitors. Based on my informal survey of state tags, I'd say the vast majority were from GA (no surprise). We didn't get a place to stay until we arrived, and got a very nice 2 BR ocean front condo right in the middle of the action for about $120/night. Tons of availability from what I could tell. And everything is fee-free....no cover charges, parking fees, entry fees or any other kind of extra expenses for anything! That part was really nice. And there are more bike vendors spread out all over the entire 10 mile stretch of PCB then you could ever see in a week....anything you want, you can find. My only issue is that the entire event is sooooooo H-D oriented, which was OK for the wife, but not much for the Yami or Kawi crowd by way of aftermarket anything. The factory promo trucks were nowhere to be found either, except for Can-Am. But other than that, I'd say it was a pretty fun weekend to take in the total "biker" experience. We might do it again in the Fall for "Thunder Beach - Part II".
  14. Got a call last night about 9 PM. Playboy was in town and wanted to get together. Too bad, I was at work. Asked him where he was staying and it was a hotel 1 block from my plant. So we agreed to have some coffee at the Waffle House when I got off at 1130 PM. Had a nice chat and he went to sleep and I went home. Sure do wish we had some more time. Anyway, meeting another man at his hotel room at midnight just didnt seem quite right.....:rotf: Sorry Vance, couldnt resist. But it was nice meeting up with you, even if it was only for an hour.

  17. Been out riding all day and at one stop I made a guy pulls in on a Valkyrie with a very nice tank cover with two hard closeable "pockets". He did not know where the tank cover came from because it was on the bike when he bought it. I took pictures of the tank bag and label but the label didn't come out to good. Just thought it was a good idea with the "pockets" on the tank bag.
  18. Last fall I posted a want ad for some old used floorboards so between here and the star touring forum I got a pair of them. My first brackets did not turn out like I wanted but this one will do until I get the other one done. Thanks to 99 Silver for being so nice. 19. Has anyone made plans to hookup with other VRs for the trip east.I'm coming from Illinois,it would be nice to ride into WNY with company.
  20. I had a nice 160 mile ride in the desert today. Stopped and had lunch then off again for a great ride. I had to stop at a rest area (you guys over 50 know what I mean) Well I’m Pretty much 50 miles from anywhere and go to put my kick stand down and the lowering loop broke off, weld snapped. Kind of tuff getting this old large man off the bike without a side stand and under stress needing to GO as bad as I had to. But I did it keeping the 900 pound beast steadied and bending down to put the stand out by hand. I thanked FREEBIRD for the center stand because it was nice to have a backup, Stopped and got gas and again it was a site to see with no one to help hold her steady, and then home in the garage. By this time I was getting to be pretty good at it. Thanking freebird again for that center stand because it is nice to have it there. For making this site and all the knowledgeable people here. So check your welds guys/gals .Now I have to see who will weld this one or find one……………Ron
  21. Don't need to get jealous now,,,, we all do our own thing,, that makes us different and as the old saying goes: It's nice to be the same, But great to be different.
  22. Anyone using these tire pressure monitors? These are only $30...I was looking at the Big Bike Parts wireless tire monitor but not ready to blow $228 for that. But would be nice to know the pressure's ok without getting under the bike with a gauge. If anyone is using these, how do you like them??? Thanks for the info...JR
  23. I have been looking at this bike every time I go for a check up on my shoulder surgery in Mount Sterling,KY..... The dealer is right next door with in walking distance, and I did think of one of these before me and my Red Raven sweetheart, but I am kinda struck on her. Does any one else have one or had any experience with them. I still love my RSTD, but, this bike has some really nice features and I absolutely love this color. Very good breaking system. Belt drive. Water cooled. Woe is me for even thinking ???????? But don't hurt to look does it ???? http://images.motorcycle-usa.com/PhotoGallerys/xlarge/2012-Kawasaki-Vulcan-1700-V.gif Fuzzy
  24. Saturday morning a few of us rode to a dealership about 40 miles form where we live. While I was there I thought I would check out the 2012 Venture. It was a nice bike. Just like the 2011, 2010, 2009....... I was very surprised to see that it still has a cassette deck. What is Yamaha thinking?
  25. Just got back in from our invasion of Rome, had a nice turnout, a bunch of 2 gens, 1 MKII, a couple of Can Am Spyders, 1 Kawi Concours, 1 Valk. Interstate, and a few Tour Deluxe, and my V Star, very nice gathering from several states. The burgers were fantastic as to be expected from Fudruckers. Lots of new faces and some old friends. Looking forward to the next M&E. Thanks for putting this together Randy.
