  1. Hi there! Some months ago I posted on Kuryakyn handles for the 1st gen. Then there was the fact that the left one was too loose, so someone here suggested I put hockey tape around the handle. So I set them aside. Now I went to install them a few days ago. Did the hockey tape thing on the left, it's nice and tight. For throttle however, I can't put the housing back on. The shaft seems a little too big. If i put it next to the old one it looks identical but it really is just the housing. If I force a side on, there is no more play for the accelerator to come back in it's position. How on earth is anyone install these? On the package it's written 6235. If I remember correctly from my previous thread, that this was the correct one to get...so I'm certainly not the only one with this problem...unless I got the wrong ones in the pack...in that case nice waste of :mo money:they cost me almost $100! Can anyone help. The old left one is cut up and in the garbage already long gone and new one is glued. Thanks in advance for the help!
  2. well i guess allan and i must have been the first ones to get home.had a great ride and a great time in memphis.st. judes is a fine place and what a great thiing they do for these kids.they were very nice at the hospital .and we got vip. parking and a nice tour.got to see some old friends and meet some new ones.thanks lewis for a great day.
  3. So what did everybody get or give today???? Me i got to sleep in with no kids as they were all at thier aunts house and a nice dinner and a day out hunting... Cant get any better then this Jessie:2132:
  4. Nice trike, http://i2.ebayimg.com/08/i/000/bd/b0/b423_3.JPGbut me thinks a little steep...............!st Gen Trike.....Ebay
  5. everyone in the eastern, sector of the U.S.! is everybody ok? seems to be a bad week , storm -wise, all over the eastern half!!!!! sure would be nice for ya'll to check in! DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO COME OVER THERE!!!!" just jt
  6. I went on not one but 2 very enjoyable rides today, the first was on my 1st Gen, which I had just given a thorough cleaning, so I thought I would show it off........Its been so long since I have ridden it for any distance or time (1 month), that I had forgotten what a nice ride it was, rode about 40 miles of backroads just enjoying the music and the beautiful weather (75 Degrees). Didnt really want the ride to end but we were going out to eat with my daughter and her husband so I had to end it before I really wanted to. As it turns out my wife and daughter were going shopping after we ate, and I didnt want to tag along, so I took the Vstar 1300 to the resturaunt so I could head back home, so I took the long way home, about 40 miles also, and enjoyed that ride very much, two different animals, and two great rides, I am glad I decided to keep the 1st Gen, cause its nice to ride something different once in a while and having a back up bike is a good thing. Besides once it hits 25 years old, it an antique here.......and the price should go up on them. As soon as I get back from Memphis the 83 is going into my shop and getting a makeover and make her pretty again, not that shes ugly now, but she is showing her age...........
  7. I was at my stealer getting a new tire and they were uncrating and new Victory Vision and "getting it hot" for the showroom. We watched as they bolted this thing together and my first thought was "this looks odd". It has some nice features, but it really looks different - enough to buy, I'm not so sure. the 106CI motor looks good, but I just can't get past the fact that it's a motorcycle built by a watercraft company - and from what I hear, not a reliable one at that! The huge-looking saddlebags are actually pretty small as most of their bulk is appearance and not space and the gauges are a mile from the rider, making the bike feel huge from the driver's seat. There are dials and a nice LCD panel on the dash to control the built in radio and MP3 hookup in a bin on the tank. The model I saw did not have the extra chrome or a trunk and, I think, retails starting at around $19.5k - a lot of money to risk on something that may get laughs everywhere you go! If it had the Yamaha/Honda/HD or some other comparatively respected manufacturer's name on the side, it may be worth a chance, but Victory, not for me, I don't think.
  8. Finally made it back....Had a great time camping out....I had forgot how beautiful it is down there.....In all did around 1300 miles ....Took some of the roads some of you had suggested.. Did a lot of hopping over the border into Virginia..(Love Rt33 thru the mountains into Virginia) That has got to be one of my all time favorite set of twisties. There's a few pix in my signature (if it works) Got the Venture the dirtiest it has ever been took it up Dolly Sodz...Thought the thing was going to rattle apart ha!...Then took it up to Reddish Knob from the Sugar Grove side....Very dusty...Found out later I could come in from the Virginia side on paved road... Tell ya what it's hard to beat setting around an open campfire with friends and big ole T-bones on the grill with a few cold ones after a long day of riding... Liked it so well ...Were heading back down the weekend of the 19th to do it again..... Also.. if anyone get a chance take Rt 47 out of Parkersburg (WOW!) Very nice...Take it all the way untill you hit Rt 33....Nice twisties and switchbacks...
  9. Ron and I were riding to Lawrenceburg, Indiana yesterday for their annual Fall Fest. We left home around 3PM in order to see the car show. As we pulled into a parking lot, I look around as I am getting off the bike, and much to my surprise there is a beautiful 2000 red RSV pulling up near us. I tried to hold in my obvious excitement, because we all know this is an unusual event unless you just pulled into a VR Rally or Meet & Eat. We were fortunate to meet BikeRider59 who lives in Lawrenceburg. A very nice guy. I am still excited. Nice meeting you Charlie. Peggy
  10. My son completed the MSF course today and I picked up an '82 Yamaha Virago 750 to pound around on. I am really looking forward to him riding along with me on a nice fall day. He is 18 and very resposible - and he drives like an old man. The Virago is a nice bike. I will likely sell it in the spring once I get the Kawa Vulcan running. It fits a tall rider better (6'4"). RR
  11. saturday on our ride to the irish hills we stoped at a bike shop in cement city they sold h.d. honda and yamaha i saw a real nice ultra classic i think it was an 06 it looked great until i sat on it. being 6'4" tall the first thing i thought of as soon as my ass hit the saddle was wheres the rest of the bike? the next thing i noticed was i had no and i meen no leg room it would have been hard to even hit the rear brake i wiil admit it was a nice bike if i was 5'4" waybe:stirthepot: it's been a while since i rode a harley i guess i forgot how small they were or just realized how large my rsv is:stirthepot:
  12. The Bike is running horribly again. I can't seem to keep it consistant. The Idle wanders, ocasionaly I lose power during roll-ons and it is using waaayyy more gas than it should. I think its time to do the carbs. The instructions in Tech are great so I don't think I need help there. My problem is I can't find a kit on-line. I don't want to go to my local dealer because they are SSSLLLOOOOWWWW with regard to ordering parts. I've been to both DGY and Flatout, they don't appear to sell a kit, just individual parts. Having never done this before, I have no idea what parts are needed, nice to have, or a complete waste of money. If no kits are available, how about a list of parts? Might be a nice addition to the tech article. DGY and Flatout appear to use the same indexing system and numbers. Thanks guys!

    Rode a Victory today

The Victory shop close by the house had open house with bells and whistles and opportunity to ride them. Rode the Las Vegas model. Standard engine - 100 cu in, 85 hp, 110 ft/# torque. This bike is not your father's Oldsmobile. With those 6 speeds and wide power band, that thing scoots. Probably weighs half of my 1st gen, but anyhow. I liked that the driver pegs were way forward. Felt more comfortable than what I am used to. Satisfying rumble - the group I rode with went past a field of cows - they scampered away. Hope it did not impact too much on milk production! Great acceleration, fantastic brakes, nice ride. Not sure I love the looks, but the performance is impressive. Handles great in the twisties. Does not have any instruments other than speedometer. The gears clunk pretty hard when shifting. At $17K not ready to trade in my 87 VR....but holy cow what a nice ride!
  14. Any body looking for a nice touring bike with a trailer. It looks alot faster than a first gen. gen.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1944-Cushman-Airborne-with-trailer-RESTORED_W0QQitemZ260161419868QQihZ016QQcategoryZ80765QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. Hi, I am fairly new to the Venture Rider Org.. Last week I purchased a 1989 Venture Royale. But before I did, I had a post on this site asking for advice on what to look for in a Venture. I cannot believe the help I had received. I really appreciate it. I purchased the bike from Allan, who has kept the bike in really nice shape. He has added alot of nice accessories to it. Besides the oil change I have just done. The bike is just ready to ride. I am finally starting to get used to the weight of the bike, after a couple of tanks of gas. Thanks again and I'm sure I'll have alot of questions as I am new to the Yamaha Venture. Steve:cool10:
  16. To work on the 99. Today was a nice day temps in the low 80's with a mist rain. It made for a nice evening to work on the 99. We got the right saddle bag open and latch freed up. A little duct tape ( An old muffinman trick) patched the busted hole in the saddlebag. Split the fairing and got the driving lights repaired and fixed the audio system. WOO HOO we have tunes cb,radio, intercom and everything. The fairing has major scratches with the right side screw supports busted. A little plastic wire tie work should hold it. All thats left to do is adj the headlight beam. It's pointing at the moon. Change oil & filter, check the scoot for loose bolts, move the xm radio and gps from the 89. If all goes well we might bring this thing to vogel.
  17. I was traveling on 377 north out of Granberry Texas today 6/23/07. A nice gentlemen pulled up beside me on a 99 venture and he spoke to me. I had ear plugs in , but I acknowledge, the light turned green, we rode of and got on 20 east and kind of rode together a while. I was late for an appointment and could not stop. If you see this post, let me know. Very nice bike you were riding.
  18. Yesterday I bought a new HJC AC3 helmet. I was wondering if any of you use the same helmet and what you think of it. I wanted a 3/4 helmet so I can use the headset and didnt want to get a full face. Not broken in yet but when I tried it on it seemed nice. I like it because when the face shield is not on it has a nice visor to hide all the ratchet mechanisms. It is DOT and Snell rated and also the way it is shaped it allows for free movement of head as well as being light. This is my first helmet larger than a 1/2 other than my Racing helmet. Tell me what you think!
  19. Today was maintenance day for my RSV. Gonna get her ready for Myrtle Beach next weekend. Ok so I received my Chrome Stebel air horn Thursday and installed it today; looks and sounds awesome. Thanks Carbonone for the great SS bracket. While I was at it I did a few other things and also changed the headlight to a Sylvania SilverStar H4ST. So the horn scares the crap out of just about anybody around that's great, but I wanted to check out the headlight so I took her out to a nice dark road that happens to go through a swamp to adjust the low beam so I could see but it wasn't too bothersome to oncoming drivers. You can already see where this is going right! Wrong I didn't see anything on that road and I traveled up and down it 4 times. Nice and dark, passed a few cars no one flashed me so I guess I got the alignment right. Anyway on my way back I was going down a road I used to live on and knew pretty well, still out in the sticks. Coming off a corner in a 45 zone that immediately changes into a 55 off the corner; well I was rolling into the throttle marveling at how bright and clear the light was looked down and was passing through 60 looked up and caught sight of two deer running towards the road left to right on a collision course with me. Rolled off the throttle hitting the brakes and "Blasted" the Stebel at them. What happened next was almost comical. Both deer slammed on the brakes and started skidding on the asphalt looking like "Bambi" on ice the first time. Both trying their darnedest to change direction and high tail it the other way. I still had to swerve to avoid one but we both cleared each other. WoW I've got to believe that without that light I wouldn't have seen them and without the Stebel Horn I don't think they would have slowed down. It could have been a really bad situation. I guess turning back around at the auto parts store today and getting that bulb was a good thing. Wayne
  20. any roads to ride in savannah area?
  21. Just wondering if anyone on here can recomend a good (fair, reasonably priced) Yamaha mechanic in Northeast Houston/Humble/Kingwood area. I have a nice old 81 Maxim 650 that I'd like to get running again, and wrench turning is not my specialty. It was running good about two years ago, but I spent some time commuting between Houston and San Antonio and didn't get to ride it for a while. Needs carb work, fork seals, and some brake work. I tried the Yamaha dealer on 59 in Humble, but they won't work on a bike this old for some reason. Another option is to sell this bike and find a nice first gen Venture, but I'd really like it running first cuase I don't think it's gonna take that much. Any suggestions appreciated.
  22. Does anyone have any experience with the Chatterbox Headsets with the 5pin systems. Useability? Mount up nice? Sound quality? Dan

    Gerbing & Widder Comparison

Just thought I'd share my personal findings by using Gerber & Widder gear: GERBING GLOVES Nice fit. Get "moist" too quick (after you take them off, ok while riding). Gotta have the dual controller to control heat to the gloves properly. MUST use an over glove in wet weather - these are all leather and will really get water logged. That happened to me 2 yrs ago. But note that the heat kept going into the glove so I had "warm water" all around my hands. WIDDER GLOVES Fantastic. They are also mostly covered with a weather proof material. The palms are leather. However, Widder does not make a dual controller so the heat control feeds both jacket and gloves. But Widder has something right because not only do my hands stay warm, they never get "moist". WIDDER CONTROLLER Difficult to use. It is not easy to attach so that the control readings are easily seen. I've tried strapping it to my leg which helps a bit. No LED like on the Gerbing. GERBING CONTROLLER Really nice. You can get a holder with a strong clip that goes right onto the jacket. It has 2 indicator lights telling you about feed to either the jacket or gloves. Very easy to change temps without looking. WIDDER JACKET Fantastic. Nice and warm with a great fit. It is actually a vest. If you want sleeves you buy Widder "Arm Chaps". They fit nice and snug with easy straps that allow for keeping that heat close to your body. GERBING JACKET Fantastic. Good warmth coverage. Fit is critical. BIGGEST WIDDER DRAWBACK Each connection is dependent on proper alignment - it is easy to reverse polarity. Bad thing. BIGEST GERBING DRAWBACK My original Gerbing had onsistently blown fuses. This current jacket is only 3k miles old and so far is OK. We'll see how further testing goes. SO FAR --- I'd go with Widder because it is more reliable and better waterproofing on the gloves. CLOTHING LAYERS Layering. I still like to use a light pile liner or a nice Windblocker pull over ON TOP of the electric gear. Why? It keeps it close to your body. So here are my layers: 1. VERY THIN T Shirt - I like the new mil spec thin udershirts 2. T NECK OR LONG SLEEVE T SHIRT 3. ELECTRIC JACKET 4. LIGHT PILE LINER 5. GORE TEX DARIEN OR ROADCRAFTER This allows me maximum flexibility for the wide range we encounter here in this screwed up weather area. No. My flexibility is not affected at all. And remember, you can always get cooler -- YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WARMER UNLESS YOU GOT THE GEAR WITH YOU!! MORE TO COME. IMHO, DREBBIN

    EZ Pass Mount?

Anyone found a secure/unobtrusive method to mount the EZ PASS or toll road pass on the RSV? AEROSTICH used to sell a nice handlebar mount but it is no longer in their catalog. THANKS, DREBBIN
