  1. I just posted a set of Barron's Nasty Boyz 4-2-4 mufflers in the classifieds if interested.... Thanks.
  2. Are K&N filters really worth the $100 cost? Do you gain any performance or gas mileage?. I know they are lifetime filters. I haven't priced the stock ones yet. I am running a Dyna 3000 ingnition module and Kromeworks Mufflers. My (2006) bike really runs good with this setup. I have almost 12,000 miles on it.
  3. I stopped at a dealer today and was talking about how my Venture sounds like a sewing machine and that I miss the 'Potato, Potato' sound of my V-Twin. He took me to his Venture and turned it on - It sounded great! He said they were slip-on mufflers, something like BUB...???? He couldn't remember the name of them. Do any of you have any idea what ones he is talking about? craigr
  4. Has anyone put their bike on a dyno before changing pipes and than after muffler change to see HP and torque values? Just wondering if the 2 cylinder mufflers exhaust waves where any different than the 4 cylinder flow.
  5. I Hope this isn't a strange request. I'm looking for a set of mufflers off a first gen bike, I don't need the collector box or headers just the mufflers. I want to put them on my XS1100 sidecar rig. The megaphone on it are eaten through and loud as hell. Very uncomfortable to ride so loud because the sound reverbs off the sidecar body making it worst, I like the look and sound of the oem cans and would like to put a set on the 11. if anyone has a set that they've taken off and have lying around I'd be glad to negotiate a price for them. Please let me know aand contact me here. thanks guys Phil.
  6. Riders, I know this topic has been beaten to death but I need to know "from the last related posting" what is the majority of members using for after market mufflers I don't have the metel knowledge to make mods that installing the "road king" mufflers would take.. I don't want LOUD, but I do want that deep rumble sound that will let cagers know I'm there.. Bubs ? " Do the sleepers still have the crome tip issue? Kromeworks ? etc etc Help a fellow rider out 06 RSTD THanks
  7. if i install RK mufflers do I have to rejet ??
  8. i have a chance to pick up a pair of electra glide classic mufflers so i am wondering if anybody has tried to use them on there venture?
  9. I have a 1987 Venture Royale. My crossover pipe has a large crack in it. I want to remove it and have it welded. I took the mufflers off. How do I take the crossover pipe off without taking the whole exhaust off?
  10. I bought my '02 Midnight Venture over the winter and have been fortunate enough to put almost 2500 miles on it this season. The only problem is that the bike came with a set of aftermarket (not sure what yet until I pull them off) mufflers that are way too loud for wife and me on longer rides. I am looking for a set of OEM take offs that someone would like to part with at a reasonable price. I plan to do steps 1 and 2 of the stock modification to get a little better sound out of them. I tried posting to the "wanted " forum but it didn't work out. Please PM me if you can help.
  11. I have a 98 rstd. Was going to get slip on mufflers but noticed exhaust is all one piece. When i was shopping for slip ons i noticed they never listed my year of bike-it started in 99. Does anyone make a whole exhaust kit or does anyone have any ideas or who i can turn to for after market support.
  12. Howdy... A friend of mine just traded a motorhome for a 05 RSV with only 1800 miles on it...It has a set of Sampson Mufflers that he says are way too loud...wonders if stock 2003 Harley Soft Tail mufflers will fit on it. I told him that Road King Muffs fit , but I don't know of any others that do... Can anyone provide an answer? Thanks, Steve
  13. Hey, I am getting my dads old bike, a 85 VR1200 and I am in the getting it ready for the summer and what not. I'm all most done but I just really hate the sound of it with the stock mufflers. I was asking around all the car guys around school and they said I could put straight pipes right off the chamber instead of the stock mufflers. Just wanted to know If this is illegal, and I don't know what it is but one guy said something about it would mess up back pressure? Thanks, BMattie
  14. I recently bought a set of mufflers from an 87 XVZ 1300 and wanted to swap them onto my 83. When I tried to install I noticed the brackets on the mufflers are different but the muffler itself seems to be identical. What I'm wondering now is whether I could the change the rear peg brackets and replace them with passenger boards from an 87 to make this work or do I have to go the slice and dice route. I want to thank you all in advance, I'm still learning about the First Gens and you guys are an invaluable resource. Thank you.
  15. I need a set of mufflers for my 86 Venture Royale. The Yamaha mufflers are very expensive. Where can I buy suitable after market mufflers. I am in Canada with an 82 cent dollar and would like to find a lower cost alternative to the Yamaha hardware.
  16. Hello all, I have a friend that has a 2005 RSTD. I have been trying to get him on to this site but he has a busy schedule. He was wondering what kind of mufflers he can run with out hurting the engine. He wants to remove the bags and doesn't like the way the bubs stick out there toward the rear tire. He wants something shorter.Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
  17. I have a 97 RSTD 4 ito 2 exhast system . Wanted to play around with new slip-ons.The mufflers on it now are an aftermarket type. I cant get the slip-on section of the system to budge. Removed the rear muffler to frame bolt.Removed the clamp nut & bolt on the muffler, but I cant get the muffler off. Have tried using a chisel and punch and a small sledge hammer too. When I try moving the muffler around to try and break the seal it has made the whole muffler assymbly moves as well . I feel I am loosening other parts that should not be .Does anyone have suggestions for removing a stubborn muffler?
  18. Everything went great & love the sound. Nice little rumble. I used Freebird's (i think) method of removing the clamp cover/shield from the stock mufflers, splitting them and riveting them back on the rk's. Worked out really well. Just wish it was'nt so nasty outside.
  19. I am interested in putting fish tails on my 2006 RSTD. Anyone know if there is anyplace that a guy can get just the tips for my stock mufflers or if the mufflers from a a place like J.C. Whitney with the fish tail ends will fit. After doing some measuring I wonder if those who be to short? Any help will be greatly appreciated. neskypilot
  20. Have not done it yet but want to know how much force needed to seperate existing OEM mufflers from the header pipes. Bike is only a year old. Is there a gasket and should I reuse existing . Using BUB Sleepers Mufflers. Pipes will be here in a couple of days.
  21. Just Bought these Mufflers on Ebay, what do ya think? A while back I posted about low power on my venture, especially on the highway... started to look into it and realized my mufflers (off Roadling?) are very different side to side. one is almost straight through and the other has almost a cup in it with holes drilled in the sides for airflow. Maybe I have to much back pressure or to little airflow on the side with the "cup" or dead end in it. I'm really hoping they sound like these. 22. Hey folks, I traded my 2006 Venture in on an HD Ultra Classic Saturday. Since I've lost over 200 lbs. in the last year, the Ultra just feels better for me. Anyways, I wanted to give you folks first shot at the following items for sale that I took off my Venture or never even installed: Utopia studded driver backrest - SOLD Saddlebag side rails - SOLD Hopnel Tank Bib with removable pocket - SOLD OEM Venture mufflers - SOLD I have placed ads with photos of everything except the mufflers in the Second Generation Parts classifieds here. If you are interested in any of these item, send me an email at rushbrook1@mchsi.com. Also, I have a PayPal account - pdr1254@hotmail. Thanks!
  23. My buddy has a HD classic and friends with ultra classics that may have there stock mufflers are they the same as the road king he thought so.
  24. Thanks!!! I got the mufflers on. I decided to drain the rearend fluid while I had everything off. I had to level the bike up so that all the fluid would drain out. I decided to hook a bungy cord to the bike to hold it up while I took the muffler off that side. I put my ratchet on the muffler clamp and pushed against it and the bike fell over. I broke my mirror. The mufflers sound GREAT. Thanks hairman:thumbsup2:
  25. I'm a new 2009 RSV owner and I'm ready to switch out my stock mufflers for the RKs. I've read as much as I can find on here about doing this but I'm unclear on a couple of things. I'm really looking for the easiest way to do this.... If I go to the local HD dealer and ask if they have any stock RK mufflers, is there a particular type I should ask for? What about brackets? Can these be purchased or do I have to grind and cut? What exactly do I need to do this job? Thanks for your help, David
