  1. I need a set of first gen mufflers, doesn't matter so much on the condition, just looking for a really cheap price, will pay for shipping. Going to do some "reconstructive" work on the mufflers, so the quality is not that much of an issue Thanks! -CJ
  2. I recently purchased a 97 RSTD. One of the first projects I want to tackle is replacing the mufflers that are installed and probably go back to the OEM mufflers. It appears that some aftermarket slip-on mufflers were installed and I am now trying to determine what brand of mufflers are installed on the bike; mainly to be able to sell them, or trade them for excellent condition OEM mufflers. Although the sound is very deep and powerful (and impresses most of my friends), it's a bit too loud for me, especially after Chemo affected my hearing, and I really don't want to tic off all the neighbors when I leave for work at 6 AM on the morning... So any ideas what brand/model these might be? Thanks in advance for any help!
  3. Any difference in the mufflers on an 03 RSV and a 07 RSV?
  4. I just posted some Harley mufflers in the classifieds if you're interested. Thanks
  5. I saw this and I kind of like the look with out the trunk. I wonder how hard and much time it would take to remove it? Where are the antennas? And how about the no mufflers? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-2008-YAMAHA-1300-ROYAL-STAR-VENTURE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3a552e0ba7QQitemZ250537184167QQptZUSQ5fmotorcycles
  6. My 83VR has been put up for the winter since late October because of the surgery I was supposed to have November 2. ( now rescheduled for December 11) A friend of mine Mike said he wasn't going riding and let me take his GL1500 for the day. I went to Gary's (99silver) and we took off for a ride. We traded bikes (Mike and Gary are friends also) so I could see what it was like riding a 2nd Gen since I've been looking to go to a 2nd Gen or back to a Goldwing. What I found was leg position very comfortable BUT when taking off for the first time I picked my feet up and TRIED to put them on foot pegs straight under me which was not there. Feet hit pavement and got a little squirrelly but made strong mental note, Forward floorboards, forward floorboards. Did not think I would like heal toe shifter but after a little bit it was alright. Back started to hurt fairly quick but just pulling on handle bars relieved back so I know I would have to have a back rest. Liked the feel of the bike but you do have to "steer" more where a first Gen you just lean into a turn. All in all I liked it BUT they need a tach, now Gary has Road King mufflers on his so I was able to hear the RPM's somewhat to try and learn shift points and what speed to ride in different gears but it would be rough learning the bike with stock quiet mufflers. Was riding to slow in 5th a lot. So after the surgery it will be time to look for a 2 Gen or a great deal on a Wing.
  7. Is there any such thing as to loud??? Just removed some of the baffles out of my stock 1st Gens mufflers. Of course we had to start it up, and rev it up while mufflers removed. WOW that sound nice!!! Maybe to loud. So we put the partially de-baffled mufflers on. Sounds ok at idle, and at cruising speed. However sounds to raspy while going through the gears, hitting the obligatory 6-7,000 rpms. I would like a deeper rumbling sound.
  8. Hey there, my mufflers on my 86 Venture are rusting out... anybody have a good set of used ones for sale?.... I noticed from searching this site that there was a group buy of Mac mufflers a while ago. I went to the Mac website and they do not show any parts available. Any advice on where to get a new slip on set-up if I can't find a used set? thanks for any help Gary
  9. I have had these mufflers on for 3 seasons and would like to repack the fiberglass in them, assuming there is some. I tried to pull the baffle out the back of the muffler, it will turn but it will only come so far. Anyone had the same problem?
  10. After having not ridden it for about a month, since I got the RSV, I pulled the cover off the Tour Classic, this afternoon. Just as soon as I sat down on her I thought, Wow I see now why the RSV seemed so intimidating. The TC seems WAY smaller than the RSV. I can actually put both heels down and bend my knees slightly. On the RSV I cannot get both heels down at the same time, even with zero pressure in all three shocks. Then when I pulled out into the street it seemed like I was back on something, size wise, in line with an old Honda (CL77) 305 Scrambler! Ok I know the difference, but man it is seems small. I guess I was always under the mistaken notion that the Tour Classic was the same physical size as the RSV, just with less bling. Anyway, I really had an enjoyable afternoon running errands on the Old Friend! It BTW still has the completely stock Yammie mufflers on it and that was another plesentry as the RSV has Road King mufflers on it and they (IMHO) are too loud, at least for my taste. They are loud enough I have to turn up the volume on the AM/FM that I haven't yet figured out if I have one of the Chirp-er/Whine-ers Anyone wanna swap a stock/stock set of Yammie mufflers for a set of Road Kings?
  11. Anyone try their slip-on mufflers? Don't have a clue who makes their stuff, but the price is good (maybe too good?). They have a slip-on, extra long seamless fishtail muffler made for HD that they say fits the RSTD. Heard a YouTube video where a Brazilian guy put them on and they sounded pretty good (couldn't understand him though . Anyone try them? Will they fit? Just came back from Thunder Beach and didn't have to worry about anyone hearing my exhaust. Thanks!
  12. I know this has all been answered however I would really like some fresh comments for the following: 1. Does having the K&N filters and bubs slip on's require any jetting? 2. On the Bubs site, they only show "BUB Sleeper slip-on mufflers for the Yamaha Venture." Is this the only one that people are getting for the RSV's 3. A lot of people here have said they like the bubs but were too loud and took them off. On the Bubs site, they mention "The mufflers have removable baffles that can be packed to control your sound levels" If this is the case, why are people taking them off instead of adjusting the sound level? Does this procedure ruin the sound? Thanks to everyone that helps me with this. Greg
  13. Can anyone tell me if the mufflers from a 99-2004 Road Star will fit on a 90 Venture Royale. After reading one of the posts on Khrome Works I went to there web site and they have a set of mufflers marked down from $325 to $100. Does anyone run these mufflers and how do you like the sound?
  14. So as many of you know when I bought my 03 RSV it had the stock mufflers on it. The guy I got it from had a GW before he bought this he had Sampson Fishtail mufflers that he put on but did not like them. Well today I took the saddlebags off to clean everything up really good and decided to go ahead and put the Fishtails on. It sounds GREAT to me a bit loud until you get to cruising speeds but I like it! I'm just wondering how much louder it will get with miles on them? The more I ride this bike the more I love it one GREAT MACHINE!!!!!! http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s37/VictoriaVett/100_1683-1.jpg

    GPS

Ok here's a question that's probably been asked a thousand times already. What is a good cheap gps that works well with the 09RSV? I'm kinda old school and use maps normally but lately everyone is encouraging me to bite the bullet and get a gps system for my bike. Which one and what features to look for? I have Roadhouse mufflers so the bike is a little loud. I don't use the helmet intercom system either. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  17. So I'm getting ready to buy my first Yamaha Royal Star Venture the guy has some Sampson Fishtail Mufflers and a Yamaha short windshield that he wants to sell me also. He wants $250.00 for everything my question is how loud are they? I don't really want something to loud to interferer with hearing the radio and intercom? Let me hears some input on this please and is it a good deal for the money? Thanks
  18. I would like to try a set of quieter mufflers on my '05 RSTD. If anyone has a set of stock or maybe a set of Road king mufflers laying around that you trip over every time you walk through the garage, I might buy them from you just to help you get rid of them.
  19. I know this has been discussed here before, but I picked up a new set of rk mufflers that came off of an 09 roadking. I asked the service guy if they had the cats in one or both of them. He didn't know what I was talking about, he said there is no cats in the mufflers from factory, if there was it would calif. only. I did look down through them and there is a difference between the two. So tonight I removed the stockers and just slid them on to hear them, I likely!! Anyhow with one being different than the other would exhaust flow be affected from one side to the other? One a v-twin I guess it would have the same effect as a v4 with both muffs being different. I don't want to modify these mufflers if I don't have to to balance out both sides as flow goes. At idle it does seem as though the left side is a little louder and has some more exhaust flow than the right. I'm waiting for the mounting brackets and clamps to show up to complete the install. Can anyone else tell me if the installed the mufflers with different internals, and if so did you notice any differnce other than sound? Thanks.....
  20. So, I unpacked my new mufflers and began to inspect them. Well this set is good. Only took from original order date (06-05-2008) until now for MAC to get me a set that weren't rusted or mis-made. Had one set with the right over 3 inches longer than the left. Here are pictures of the mufflers before mounting. We can put this someplac on the site for reference. I will also take pictures when they are mounted.
  21. During the last couple of weeks my 2004 Venture R/S has been back firing when I slow down, especially if the motor is hot. I have been doing a lot of traveling lately for the PGR and the miles are climbing. I'm sure some of you have had this experience; is it timing, plugs, or what? Need your help. PS: Leaving out this morning for Fayetteville, NC for a PGR mission. The mufflers will pop.
  22. I received a call from MAC today telling me that they had 3 sets of mufflers available. If anyone's interested, the price to your doorstep in the US is $295. Canada is about $10 bucks more. The MSRP is $329 plus shipping. PM me if you'd like to pick up a set.
  23. Hi All: I had posted way back around June 11th or so that I had been rear ended on my brand new bike, only had 462 miles on it. A young fellow hit me at a traffifc light. He did close to 7k in damages. Praise the Lord, I was not hurt at all, and that my wife was not on the back. Well, I am excited, I got it back from the repair shop today. The only thing that still needs fixed is the left saddlebag which is on back order (will probably be about 2 months) Sure felt funny riding this again. The only bike I have ridden for the last 6 weeks is the small 250 that we used during the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course which I just completed last week. So glad to have it back, but now I have to get used to riding it all over again. I only had a few hours on it when I was hit. The first thing I am ordering now is some new BRIGHt stop lights. I know the young fellow saw me because I flashed the brake lights and saw him slowing down. I though he had stopped and then in about 4-5 seconds he hit me. But I want to put a brighter brake light on as I feel that one that comes with the Venture is not near large or bright enough. Oh yeah one good thing did come out of it. I was able to replace the stock mufflers with the Baron Nasty boys since the mufflers had been damaged. They were actually, even with the tips, less expensive than the stock mufflers. Take care everyone. Don and Ev Wood
  24. I am having a really hard time cleaning off the tar from a set of HD mufflers I have purchased to put on my RSV. I have used the following products with little to no effect. WD-40 Chrome Polish (Mothers and Turtle Wax) Never Dull Tar and Bug Remover and even GAS.... What am I missing here?? There has to be a way to do this and get the results....
