  1. Does anyone on here have these on their Venture? And how well do you like them?
  2. Yes I know its been pounded like a nail but i wanted to let everyone know that i am know making and selling these kits, with hardware, minus the clamps for $40 shipped on eBay out of ALUMINUM! LINK : CLICKY CLICK CLICK I know this is a popular mod for you guys, and i did it on my bike, and i am impressed by the sound. I have been trying to fill the gaps between jobs and college by scrapping metal and fabricating truck racks, and i thought this might be a good opportunity for me. I put my best work into these, and sell them as if they were going on my bike. Thanks for taking the time.
  3. ***Sound Clips added at the bottom this post*** Hi Everyone! So I spent my time going through the many available exhaust options only to decide on a nice pair of fishtail mufflers. Yep, that's the look I want. I found the infamous youtube video of the Brazilian guy who put them on his RSTD. I thought, boy those sound really good! And wow they are totally affordable at $88.99 each. I figured that if I didn't like them its not much of a loss. So I whipped out my card again and made the purchase on JC Whitney. here. *** I had actually first made my order with Jireh Cycles, as the same mufflers are $59.95. here. However after a week of no order being shipped, I called them up to find out what was going on, politely. They told me that they are on back order, rudely. I asked when they might get them in stock? The guy actually told me "there's no way to know that, probably a while!" I told him that I would like to cancel my order immediately, politely. I won't be buying through them again. Well these awesome looking mufflers came in a week later (shipping to Canada takes a while getting through customs) and I couldn't wait to install them on my 05 RSTD. Literally I was trying to get through the garage door to the bike while opening the box with my keys, all at the same time. Is there any better feeling? I installed the new fishtails in about an hour or so and I was smiling! Oh it looks so good. But when I took off for the day, my smile quickly changed to a worried look. Geez, these are LOUD! I heard from previous posts that they where loud before, but I thought to myself that they probably aren't that bad. Well they are bad. Getting going in 1st is like a neighborhood wide alarm. I had to pass two cops on my way to the highway and the only way I felt comfortable getting by them was riding in 4th going 30km/h (19mph)!! Maybe I'm a wuss, but I ain't no fool. However, they did provide me with much enjoyment on the highway, bringing back my smile for a short-while. Honestly, sounds like a nascar. But I realized that most of the cars that were behind me were staying WELL back from me, probably out of annoyance, and my ears had started to go all fuzzy from the sharp sound. So I rode home and said, that was interesting, time to fix it! I was looking up all sorts of baffles online but I thought that they were mighty expensive for tubes of steel and I can definitely make something for nothing here! So I started the process by knocking out the existing baffle. There is one small tack weld holding the stock baffle in place. You can see it in the fishtail end of the muffler. I ground the weld down and I just took a long metal bar, inserted it into the inlet of the muffler until it rested on the back of the stock baffle and started hammering. Out they came. ***I didn't remember to take pictures during the building process because I was... in the groove... Next time... So instead, to help illustrate, I created some 3D cad models to help explain. Just click on the photos to see a zoomed up version with some helpful notes. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/mufflerwitholdbaffle.jpg?t=1276018046 Then I measured up the old stock baffle to determine its outer diameter, 1.75". I then went to the local auto store and bough some exhaust tubing. The only stuff they had in stock was 18" long by 1.75" diameter with a tapered end. I bought three of them for a total of $10. I then drilled many many holes along the exhaust pipe (refer to pictures) and spent a good while cleaning the burrs out of the holes. From there I took a washer, welded on some support bars to them and welded that to the end of the tapered section of the exhaust tube. In the end I has some handsome looking full length, straight through baffles. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/newbaffleassembly.jpg?t=1276018127 http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/newbafflesectionview.jpg?t=1276018177 Then, I slide the baffle half way into the muffler and began to pack in pieces of fibreglass insulation with a thin metal rod. I worked my way to filling most of the muffler with fibreglass before I slide the baffle right into its final position. I just put a tack weld in place to hold the baffle in, but you can definitely install a set screw to make it easier to remove in the future. I was lazy, so I "set it and forget it". http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/fishtail%20mufflers%20with%20custom%20made%20baffle/mufflerwithnewbaffle.jpg?t=1276018234 Installed the new muffler on to the headers and fired up the bike. Ahhh, perfect! The sound level is at a much more controlled level, lets say less than medium loud. I have no fear of firing my bike up in the morning and waking the neighborhood, no fear of passing a cop thinking I might get a ticket, no funny looks from pedestrians that hate being irritated by overly loud exhausts. The new baffles make the mufflers sound meaty, deeper, less harsh, and pleasant to the ears. I can drive it fairly quiet for the neighborhood sneak out, and can also get it pretty loud when you lay on it - best of both worlds. I am a very happy camper now. One other note for installing the muffler on the bike - I made my own brackets for holding the mufflers in place by using some scrap metal. I welded my bracket to the muffler near half way, and bolted it to the where the stock muffler is hung from. Now you don't necessarily need to do this as the mufflers seemed to hold on just fine with the clamp, but I would definitely recommend making some sort of bracket! These fishtails get much heavier with the new baffles and packing and I would have hated to see one of them get loose and go flying. I will take some audio recordings of the exhaust as it is now. I never took the recordings of the original. If you want to hear what that is like, just take off your stock mufflers and listen to what the headers sound like on there own. ***This is just an experimental baffle design, and I'm sure there is a better way/better design. But this design works quite well and I'm very happy with it. http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad85/phertwo/retro%20tachometer/IMG_8547.jpg?t=1276018581 ...Sound Clips... 4. Someone in the chatroom asked this question and wasn't able to figure out how to post (English not being his first language) so I'm offering to give a hand since I can't find an answer already posted on the forum. I figured this info might be useful in the future to others who came across similar issues in Europe. Are the mufflers for a venture royale XVZ13DA (1990); are the original mufflers available in the U.S.? what mufflers did you mount. the JAMA-mufflers are not available any longer I contacted the producer laserexhaust in the netherlands and was told they don't produce them anymore. He says they must be TUV tested per the german regulations on vehicles. K, Thanx Kat
  5. I have a couple long trips coming up, and decided I wanted to put the stock mufflers back on. A quieter ride == better rider endurance. First off, I'd forgotten how good she sounds with the stock pipes. Not throaty and race-car like, but strong and powerful. Sneaky fast. Secondly, I'd forgotten how hard it is to judge shift points with the stock pipes. I really didn't learn to ride her hard until I'd put on the Road King mufflers and could hear the engine wind up. Today, following a pair of Harleys, I couldn't hear when I reached the rev limiter. Not that it matters so much when you have a couple slow pokes in front of you, but a few times I let them ride ahead a bit so that I could zoom out. If you are new to the RSV/RSTD world and have come from V-twins, I think you ought to try some louder pipes so you know how to rev it higher than the twin. Third, I had to relearn to start my bike first so that I could hear it running. LOL I like the F-1 sound the RKs give me, no doubt. They will be going back on between trips. But for now, I'm digging the stock pipes! Anyone else return to the stock pipes? Dave
  6. HELP>I need a set of mufflers for my 86.Any help will be appreciated.
  7. I'm looking at aftermarket slip on mufflers' and can't decide on which brand. In no certain order, but looking at Bub sleepers, khromewerks and roadhouse. I'm looking for a deep low sound at idle and while cruising, not something that has a loud bark or cracking sound while accelerating. I've listened to different sound clips, but kind of diifficult to decide on the which types with the sound coming out of small speakers. I've tried the roadking mufflers and sound ok at idle but have what I call a fluffing sound and when accelerating they bark, so back to stock for now. Any suggestions would be helpful, as I've noticed slip on's for the venture are rather pricey. Put a post on several days ago about my venture and actually looked at a new wing yesterday, but not quite ready to give up the venture yet, so I'm considering slip on's and the leveling links for the rear to help on the handling at low speeds. Still trying to get a handle on this bike and with the research on this site and other's I don't want to make a mistake and regret it later, thanks..
  8. to those of you who HAVE changed your mufflers, did you have to cut the originals off. All connections on mine seeem to be welded. Any idea if this is original? thanx
  9. Any one put rk mufflers on the fist gen ? need some brackets or know how to make them. Looked on the site and could not find any, all that i found was on 2nd gen.
  10. I just wanted to thank him for selling us a set of stock Venture mufflers for our RSTD. We just bought our bike and it had Roadhouse mufflers on it that sounded great but we wanted a nice quiet bike. He showed us a lot of things about our bike that we didn't know and he told/showed me how to switch out the pipes and it was a piece of cake thanks to knowing ahead of time what to do. We LOVE the bike now. Everybody else we've talked to has also been a big help to us navagating the site, etc. This is the best $12 we've ever spent. This site rocks! Joe N Linda PS, how do we post pic of our bike?
  11. Well I got the barons 424 mufflers on and I have the whine, but I'm having too much fun with the loud exhaust to care. The video does not do the mufflers justice, They are LOUD. I'll try to put the go pro on the saddlebags and see if it will demo the sound better. I'll post when done if anyone is interested. I know I like watching videos with the sound of the bike not music. Here's the link....[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axrKx0tG-L4]YouTube- Yamaha Royal star tour deluxe / with barons 424[/ame]
  12. Well, yes because my searches didn't reveal to me threads that are close enough to my situation. I bought a pair of '06 RK mufflers. Both pipes have a restriction in them (not straight through). I was thinking these wouldn't have the catalyst in them, but I guess they may. Is it necessary to remove the cat? Since neither is straight through, how loud will these be compared to the stock RSV mufflers if I don't bore them out? I want just a little more rumble; I don't want these to be as loud as the V&H on my Kawi. I looked at them again and one pipe has just baffles on both ends and the other has a baffle on the outlet, but the inlet has what lookes like corrugated metal in it. I had read that the cat was a yellow material and that is not what is in this pipe. If I knock out the baffles and cat, will I have to rejet?
  13. i have a pair of stock mufflers for a 04 venture. i want to trade a guy for of samsons off a 06 tour delux. i am pretty sure they are the same but is there anyone that can confrim it. thanks steve
  14. Ok, I'd like to know how much whine is too much or normal. I will be getting barons 424 slipon mufflers in the next week or so. But I was just wondering how much whine is too much? I put a video from my Go Pro on you tube and if link works maybe I could get an idea if I should try the I basket deal or just put the mufflers on and ride. hopefully here's the link [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzN9EMtI0_s]YouTube- Yamaha RSTD whine?[/ame]
  15. A Venture rider I know is looking to change his mufflers out for some Tour Deluxe mufflers with the adjustable tips. Does anyone have a set they would like to sell? We looked at just putting the TD tips on the Venture mufflers, they will fit in the ends, but the Venture mufflers lack the threaded inserts used to fasten the tips on. I doubt that the sheet metal on the inside of the muffler cone is strong enough to hold the tips on with out the threaded inserts. Has anyone tried adding the TD tips to stock Venture muflers? Thanks
  16. Installed fishtail mufflers couple of days ago and just got the clamps. These mufflers are a lot lighter than stock and just wondered if I needed to make brackets or just go as is? They feel rigid with no play and the clamps really tightened down well. As a side note, I've never complained about the "whine", but after installing them the whine is very noticeable. Hard to believe that the mufflers would effect the whine, but I haven't put the saddlebags back on and that may make the difference. Anyone notice the whine getting worse when changing mufflers? I am definitely keeping my stock mufflers just in case, but I'm no longer hesitant to pull along side a Harley at a light. Of course they can hear them well from the rear when we're rolling.
  17. What a eventful trip I had And no members near for assistance Will tell you members later But Now Question I dont like the BuB mufflers on it If I replace them with the original pipes is there anything I have to do with the Carbs
  18. :fiddle:I must be getting old,HA!!! Anyway goodbye to the rk mufflers "overrated?" I have tried them all rk screaming eagle , stock 09 ultra mufflers, older rk mufflers and i came to the conclusion that they don,t sound that good. this hi revving v4 should sound like a ferarri not a john deere. Is there any pipes that make it sound mellower and not raspy ? I am going to put the stocks back on this week "glad i kept them" and never look back. Kinda felt sorry for all the folks i passed having to listen to that !!
  19. Does anyone happen to have stock mufflers lying around. More than willing to pay a price and shipping for them. Not quite sure if I want to get rid of the Baron's for good yet, but want to try stock again since it has been so long. Thanks for the help.
  20. Looking to possibly change out the stock mufflers on my RSTD for some aftermarket slip ons. I have seen some fishtail slip on mufflers on some Ventures on this site and I believe that they are made by Samson exhausts. Just wanted to inquire if anyone can give me some feedback that have them on their bikes regarding how they like them. I am not looking for a loud exhaust so any information on how they sound compared to the stock mufflers would be appreciated. I am interested in the fishtails mainly because I feel they complement the lines of the bike. If there are any other slip on exhausts that are out there that are worth considering then please feel free to chime in.
  21. I am going to replace my Cobra slash cut drag pipe mufflers (soon to be for sale) with the original OEM mufflers on my 97 Royal Star Classic. When I look at the parts diagram (see attached) for the exhaust, it looks as if I need to replace as many as 10 gaskets just by changing mufflers (parts 2; 6(2); 10; 14(2); 18(2) and 22(2)) at a cost of approx $160 delivered which is almost as much as I paid for the OEM mufflers! Does anyone know exactly which gaskets truly need to be replaced when changing back to all 4 OEM mufflers? I'd obviously like to have them on-hand when I do the swap. Thanks!
  22. Will the mufflers off of a 84 1200 fit on an 86 1300 ?
  23. I know mufflers have been discussed a bunch on here, but here we go again. I don't want a loud bike, but that sweet V4 needs to be heard a little better. I've read that a lot of folks really like the HD Road King pipes, but what would would sound good (not looking for loud, I just want to hear the bike better) and be easiest to install? Also looking for a bargain.
  24. Got my used collector on today,,boy what fun! Went on easier than coming off. Leak tested and all is good, only thing I need now is gaskets for the mufflers, where's a good source for an un-employed individual such as me ????
  25. was just wandering if anybody knows if a set of road king mufflers can be made to fit on a 91 VR. I've cuut and drilled out my stock and although I love the sound just wanted a cleaner look. If this question has already been answerd before then I apologise. Tahnks in advance. David
