  1. It's time to replace my air filters. I was planning on using the K&N filters then it occurred to me that with the Barron after market mufflers it might run too lean. Do I need to worry about that?
  2. I am looking for a set of adapter plates for HD mufflers. I have tried emailing the address on the ad on the site with no response. Does anyone know if he is still selling these brackets and if not where else I could get some?
  3. As some of you noticed last MD I have Roadhouse mufflers on my 09 RSV. They have always had a nice deep tone to them but not overly loud. Well, all that changed and things got progressively louder to the point it was annoying to say the least. So, I ordered some ceramic muffler repacking off the internet and decided to tackle the job of repacking the mufflers hoping to get back to that deep mellow tone. Most of the steel wool insulation that came in the pipes had already burned out so I wrapped the new stuff around the baffles and reinserted them back into the cans. I was very disappointed!!! They were actually louder than before I repacked them!! Lucky for me, I still had the original mufflers, so I put those back on until I can find the oem packing for the Roadhouse mufflers. When I first started the bike after putting the oem(Yamaha) mufflers on it I thought, "Man this sure sound anemic"!! But after riding it for the last couple of days, I kinda like the quiet! Now, I said all that to say this. If any of you decide to tackle repacking your mufflers and want to buy the ceramic insulation because it has extremely high temp qualities and won't burn out, DON'T!! But if you like it obnoxiously loud, then by all means, go ahead and purchase this material. But until I get mine(Roadhouse mufflers) to sound like they did when I first bought them, I'll be riding around as quiet (stock oem mufflers) as a mouse!!!
  4. I put a set of Ponce gauges, oil pressure, water temp and tach, shortened my front forks by an inch , did the “Jason mod” on the vacuum ports at the base of each intake port, relocated the fuel filter, put a trickle charger plug on the battery, put spacers on the passing light bar and put in iridium spark plugs. Since I bought it last summer I have added Iso Grips, bag rails, spoiler with light on the trunk, RK mufflers, brake/tail light under trunk, fringe on the brake and clutch levers, All that is left is to get my seats reworked by Rick Butler. I think the mods will be done at least for a time.
  5. Okay been doing A LOT of reading here and have a few questions about the HD mufflers. Below are two links to modified mufflers I found on Flea Bay. What does everyone here recommend? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280591168920&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280590683985&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Stock HD mufflers? Stock HD mufflers, Modified/punched Link #1 (Max Performance) Link #2 (Super Flow) If recommending the Super Flow, What size baffle would work best for this bike? I want DEEPER and a little LOUDER, but NOT outrageously loud Would any of these require re jetting? Thanks in Advance. Tom
  6. I am looking at buying Samson silver bullet slip-on mufflers. does anyone know how loud they are? are the obnoxious ? Please let me know. William Bell FOB Shank Afghanistan
  7. I recently installed Harley touring Mufflers on my 07 Venture. I love the sound, but does anyone know where I can find a heatshield to cover the gap where the muffler attaches to the pipe? Would really like to clean that up, but don't want to pull the heatshield off of the stock mufflers. Thanks.
  8. Just put the collector back on the bike last night from the repair, just had to fire it up without the mufflers....... it was 11:30 PM, inside the garage.......thought I had my sons small block Camaro in there with headers only! Skip 12 hours till today, was getting ready to re-hang the mufflers when I decided to run up and get gas first. WHAT AN EYE-OPENER! First , the local neighborhood Harley guys are now EXTREMELY jealous! You know, the ones who run straight pipes and think their stuff sounds good. Let me tell you, they don't hold a candle to a Yammy V4 with the open collector! As far as performance, lets just say that my clutches are tight, but not with this puppy opened up! Any amount of hard throttle would bust them right loose, kinda glad 'cause I didn't want the front end off the ground with the wind we have blowing right now. She sounds really good anywhere from 4-6 grand, you really don't notice you're running those higher RPM's it sounds soooooo good! Might just have to build a set of straight pipes like CTraylor did and let the wife get used to it......... Really don't want to put them back on..........
  9. I just purchased a set of Harley Touring Mufflers. Does anyone know where I can get a prefabbed adpater? The Ebay link doesn't work. Thanks for the help.
  10. Thanks to fixitdude who sold me his stock mufflers, I removed my drilled out RK's yesterday and put the stock ones back on. It was a rare sunny warm day for this time of year and on the weekend to boot so I went out riding for the whole day. Took in the Harley demo days and rode a new Ultra Limited (103 cu in) ... great handling and decent power but, and I didn't notice this on previous Harley Ultra demos, the floorboards seemed uncomfortable and the shifter was up very high... had to literally lift my whole foot off the floorboard to shift. UGH ... didn't like that! It had the heated grips but since it was a warm day, my hands were getting kinda hot... I had no idea how to turn them off. Anyhoo, back to the mufflers ... gotta say it was a much more pleasurable ride with the stock pipes although I was much more aware of the engine whine but it's still no where near as bad as it was before I had the I-basket swap. Maybe it's just me but the bike seemed to have more power too! One thing is for sure .... it's got a lot more OOOMPH than that Ultra, especially when the revvs get up there!
  11. My hunt for a cheap great sounding exhaust led me to this site. I read the threads about putting the Road King mufflers on the Royal Stars and decided that's what i wanted to do. But while on a parts run to Advance Auto i was browsing the isles because all the guys were busy. When i came across the Thrush glass packs i had one of those i wonder if that would work moments. So i picked up a pair that are 2" ID and 24" long and two reducers that are 2" OD to 1 3/8" ID. When i got home i removed the trunks and then the stock mufflers. The glass packs are really close to the same diameter as the stock mufflers so i cut the mounting bracket off the stockers. I then welded the reducers into the glass packs. Now with the stock mounting brackets bolted to the bike i slid the glass packs onto the head pipes so i could mark where to weld the brackets to the glass packs. After everything was welded up i sprayed the welds with some red engine paint that i had and bolted them up to the bike. I decided the red had to go and wrapped them in black header wrap. I plan on adding some tips soon too. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HP7NazETQEM]YouTube - Royal Star Exhaust[/ame]
  12. I have some stuff for sale cheap...I have the stock mufflers and a set of HD Road King mufflers if anyone is interested. Let me know. Starkruzn@gmail.com
  13. Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and I would like to know if the slip on mufflers from a 2006 FLHT (Electra Glide Standard) will fit on my 2007 Tour Deluxe like the road king mufflers will?
  14. I have a 2 sets of R/K mufflers number is 65546-98A Are these off a 98 R/K or not..
  15. See my ad... http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3052 I imagine the RSTD mufflers would fit ??

    mufflers

Does anyone here have a set of stock mufflers that would fit 09 venture they would like to sell?
  17. Whew...! I just got done servicing the rear end of my bike...what a joy. I put on a new E3 rear tire, cleaned, greased and installed zerks in the lower rear shock mount hardware, greases the drive shaft, (the top splines were dry but clean). I got a tube of heavy, hi temp moly grease, (less than 6 bucks at Canada's handyman wonderland, Princess Auto), and lubed the crap out of everything. I haven't had a chance to drive it yet since my mufflers are in for repair. When I took them off, they sounded like they were full of ball bearings. I sawed the back off and bashed, beat and pried until the loose bits came out. I will weld it up tomorrow, (minus the crappy guts), and then wrap it in heat tape. It should be purdy...
  18. Hi.Does anyone have a set of OEM mufflers for an 83 VR. I went on a ride today and my right side mufflers broke at the collector flang. If there is a fix, can anyone tell me? Thanks all Ray.
  19. I bought my Venture with Bubs, would prefer the stock setup. I really like listening to the music not the pipes. I have the baffles packed right now and greatly prefer the quiet. Bubs are the muffler pipe only and are in good shape no damage. The add on tips are flaking a bit. About 10,000 miles on them. I want stock exhaust mufflers, don't know exactly how we would trade yet, I still have a few trips planned for August. I'll post pics fairly soon Let me know if anyone is interested
  20. How important is the stock exhaust to how the Venture runs? The bike I have has had the exhaust changed for some short little after market mufflers, my fuel mileage sucks, around 30 ,31 to the gallon, does anyone think that the reduced back pressure of these after market mufflers could be part of or most of or any of the cause for such mileage and lack of low end power? The bike has a great top end, but the low end is a little less than I figure I should have with the bike, 3000 rpm and above its a fast accelerating monster, below that it accelerates but kinda on the soft side if you know what I mean.
  21. Some previous posts seemed to indicate that only "non catalytic" mufflers from older generation RK's will work on the Venture. I have the chance to buy some 2008 RK pipes and the numbers do NOT have 95 95a 98 or 98a as the last digits. Any reason why the newer RK catalytic mufflers will not work - without any modification (drilling)??? Thanks
  22. Hello All, My 96 RS has "Turn-out" mufflers on now and I wanted to change back to OEM mufflers. I purchased a set of mufflers only to find that I need the "stays" to mount the OEM mufflers. I'm reaching out to anyone who might have a set of these that would want to sell them.
  23. Hello All, I have a 96 RS with 4/2/4 exhaust and looking for turnout mufflers. Have looked on the Web but cant find anything. Looking for ideas.
  24. Well, it actually took me about 5-6 hours, but the end result is very nice. I installed a set of new old-stock Road King mufflers on my 98 RSTC2. The hardest part was making my brackets, but I got to use my new wire-feed welder, Ye-ha. Sound is much better than the drilled out stock mufflers. BTW, I didn't drill them out, they were already that way when I bought the bike. They sounded terrible. Getting the new mufflers to slide over the exhaust pipe was a real pain, with lots of grinding and filing, but finally got it. Thanks to all for the information and pics.
