  1. Does anybody offer a MP3 jack mod for the mitusubishi radio? Sierra Electronics does one for the Goldwing radio.
  2. My wife and I both have the chatterbox FRS system which we use to talk rider to rider. They also have an aux port to plug in an MP3 player which I use pretty much always. I have an 86 Standard Venture (so no goodies on board). That being said, I have a Garmin 265wt that I want to mount to the bike (in a waterproof case designed specifically for that).... Here's the problem.......how do I get the voice to my helmet headset??? The 265 is bluetooth compatable but the Chatterbox isn't.......the only input is the mp3 jack. Anyone up on the new technology have any suggestions??:starz:
  3. Was over at the Delphi forum and saw a discussion on the infamous Venture cassette. Someone mentioned an MP3 player that fit into a cassette but didn't specify a source. I did a little looking and came up with: http://usb.brando.com/usb-cassette-mp3-player-ii_p01481c035d15.html Somebody has to try one of these and let us know about audio quality, output power (volume), battery life etc. I wonder if the "skip" function would work - if so, it might be a perfect solution. (if sound quality is satisfactory and the rechargable battery is good for 8 hr or more) This same device came up in a number of locations searching on "cassette MP3 Player". Be careful because many of the devices that come up on a search are just cassette adaptors that you plug the MP3 player into while this can be used as a stand-alone MP3 or as a cassette surrogate. This one is a newer version that has a remote (not very useful on a bike) but also supports high capacity (16gb) SD cards. Thought I would throw it out there in case anyone is interested. Ross
  4. Well, I finally got my MP3 input hardwired in to the wiring harness. I installed a 3pdt switch to seperate the FM signal from the MP3 signal. They work great. However, I've noticed the potential of my new speakers - which works GREAT with the MP3 and is marginal with the FM radio. The FM works fine...just quiet. It preforms just as well as it did before the MP3 input mod. I just wish I could get a louder sound with the FM radio so that I could hear it better when engine is running. I haven't gotten my comm. headset yet...its in the mail. Does it all work better when the sound is piped through the headset?
  5. I've just purchased a Nuvi 780 which has MP3 capabilities. I was just wondering where most of you guys got your MP3 audio from. I have well over 1000 songs in Itunes, but it is my understanding that those files will only work on my IPod. Is that correct. I've tried Limewire, but that stupid thing carries lots of bugs and really slows the puter down as it wants to run all the time. I'm sure there has to be a good place to get the songs I want.
  6. Forgive me for I know that GPS units have been discussed to great extent here, but... I'm just to lazy to sift through so many threads looking for whatever info I can find. But... I'm curious what options we motorcyclists have when it comes to GPS's. I've seen the TomTom Rider/Rider2, and the Garmin 550 & 660. The TomTom doesn't support MP3 playback and at $800 - $900 bucks, the Garmins are a bit expensive for my taste. Not to mention the helmet accessories for the Garmin, which appear to come with the TomTom. What other GPS's do you guys use? I would like one to at least have MP3 playback, be waterproof, and be able to update the maps. Bluetooth would be nice for the cellphone use but not big on my list. A fair price would be nice too. I think it's ridiculous that all because something is for a motorcycle, it should cost 2-4 times as much.
  7. Taters wants to buy me a net book for Christmas. she wants me to pick it out...I don't know a thing about them.. Can you guys give me any info and guidence what to look for and what accessories I may need.... when in doubt ask the pros.....also she wants to get me a mp3 player...something I can hook up to the scoot on those longer trips......all help is appreciated.....:sign67:
  8. Radio, CB, MP3 and other External Audio (still under construction) Q: How do I use an MP3 player or other audio device with my Venture? A: There is an Aux input jack right next to the stat-of-the-art cassette player in the fairing. In addition, many owners have used a splitter in the Aux input line to add an additional input jack right next to the Aux power jack on the left side of the fairing (be advised, however, that you should NOT connect two external audio devices at the same time, even if you have two jacks, unless you use some type of external isolation device to prevent probably damage to one or both of the audio devices). Please see the threads in this section of the Technical Library for all the answers: [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=74]Radio, CB, GPS, Etc. - VentureRider.Org[/ame] Q: My CB antenna is on a different side of the bike than my buddy's antenna - how do I know which one is right, and does it make a difference? A: The CB antenna should be on the left side of the trunk. It makes a difference because the CB unit is mounted under the trunk, and the antenna wire from it is not long enough to reach the CB antenna if it was mounted on the wrong side during dealer prep of your bike.
  9. During this past December I had opprotunity to work at the Jacob Javits Center in the Yamaha booth as part of our STAR Touring group. The STAR Touring booth was located right between the 2 Ventures and the VSTAR 250/650. While there I talked to many possible future Venture owners about the bike. And everyone one of them spoke of the embarrassment of the cassette deck. So I decided that their had to be something better (MP3/ SAT Radio / Nav) than that old deck. On Venture site, someone had removed the Cassette player and replaced it with a glove box. So I decided that something was definately possible. I saw another user had replaced theirs with a Graphic EQ, but still thought something more useful. So I began to search. One criteria I was trying to maintain was not to modify the external portions of the fairing and if all possible retain the door to the cassette deck. The dimensions - are tiny. Now I found an MP3 player (Sansa) this would fit. Problem is I would only get about 4 hours out of the battery and it had no car power offered to it. Tried to see if any GPS would fit, no luck (smallest is a Garmin - 2.2" X 5"). Then I found it - a Satellite Radio - the AGT - Sportscaster - 1.6" High - 4.75" Wide. Now it still took quite a bit of modifications - but it works. I tried to make it look as factory as possible. Also at the same time - made a modifcation to my Hoppnel pouch to move my TomTom 720 to sit dead center (like the Gold Wing). This is also wired into the Aux. Now I have MP3, Bluetooth Phone and Spoke Navigation working in conjuction with the SAT Radio (via a splitter). Now - is it a perfect solution - probably not. Is it a better solution - I think so. Thought I would share it with you all. Stu
  10. Okay. I've had a Garmin 2730 for a few years now and love it. It has XM which when working is nice to have. But another Garmin antenna has gone bad and I refuse to buy another one. The GPS also has a MP 3 player which I've never used. I think I'd like to put some songs on the MP 3 but have no idea how to go about doing this. I don't want to start paying a dollar a song to download and transfer. Are there really any free download sites that are legit and won't get me in a jam or is that a myth? Also, I've heard of people downloading music CD's to something like an Ipod. Can this also be done to this MP3?
  11. The last night of the Vogel IV /Tail of the Dragon event turned out to be quite exciting. The day began with a nice early morning ride with Blackjack to Blairsville to have breakfast with Eck, SleeperHawk and his Mechanic, 1rooster and several other VR members. Afterward we returned to Vogel to hook up with Squidley, Yammer Dan, Broken spoke, Raceman62 and Melinda for a ride over Hog Pen Gap to Suches then North up 60 to Stechoa Gap Rd. to Blairsville then back to Vogel. Then there was the BBQ dinner and the drawing for prizes and the 50/50 drawing. When Lewis called the numbers for the 50/50 drawing. My enthusiasm grew and grew as he called each digit 9-2-1-1-1-------------7, Ah Cr_p my tickets ended with 1-8, 1-9,2-0. Well anyway the money goes to a good cause. I was just sorry that half the money didn't go to my favorite charity------ME. I was however very thankful later that Raceman62 had won the first aid kit which came in handy the next day wrapping up my road rash. Thank you Raceman62 for sharing it with me and the person who donated it as a prize. As I said it came in very handy. (I did However, win the auction for the last set of Squidley running light brackets that I have wanted for a long time:)I'm sure that being the last set they will end up being a collector's item someday. After the drawing I was able to spend some quality time with John and Melinda (Raceman62race) enjoying some good conversation and adult libations. Followed by a solo swim under the stars. I then went home to my tent where I found that my tent site companion Blackjack had packed up and left. At that point there was nothing left to do but lay down for a good night's sleep with the restful music of the blue ridge mountains playing in my ears through the ear spud speakers of mp3 player. All of a sudden (at approximately 2:30 am) there was a loud CRASH right outside of the tent window by my head where Blackjacks tent would have been. I jumped up from my slumbers and unzipped the window flap to see (by the light of the mp3 player display) my pick-a-nik basket (which had been sitting on the pick-a-nik table) had been hurled and scattered right out side of my tent. (see photos attached) At that moment I'm sure I heard a voice saying.. "Heeeeeeeey BOOBOO, screw that Pick-a-nik basket and come help me grab this cooler.... The Ranger is coming". Then there was a smaller voice replying "OK Yogi". When I finally got my tent door flap unzipped I ran out of the tent waving my MP3 player where I thought I saw (By the light of the MP3 player display) one large bear wearing gloves holding on to the pole hook next to the pick-a-nik table with a smaller bear on his shoulders removing my soft shell cooler off the hook where I had placed it earlier making it bear proof.... I thought. Realizing how naked and unarmed I was, in my underwear waving a MP3 player, :whistling:I quickly retreated to my scatterd pick-a-nik basket where I found (by the light of my mp3 player display) a pot, a large metal spoon, and my battery operated camping lantern. (see pics attached) When I got the lantern turned on, I heard two different voices giggling with a tee-he-he-he-hee and saw two bears (one large wearing gloves and one small) running into the woods carrying my blue soft shelled cooler. I used the pot and spoon as a noise maker hoping that it would startle the bears into dropping my cooler and run them off. After putting on my pants and boots, (which made me feel much braver) I was joined by my camp site neighbor who was awakened by all of the commotion. With my new found courage, illumination, weaponry and back-up camper we did a circular search in the immediate area for my cooler while being careful not to penetrate too deeply into the dark shadowed underbrush on the other side of the creek. Not finding my cooler, we returned to our respective camp sites where I managed to find my bike keys to unlock my trunk after remembering that I had been packing heat stored in my trunk (where it did me a lot of good at the time). I packed the heat in my pants pocket and went back to bed keeping my pants and boots on. I carefully placed my pot, spoon, lantern and MP3 player within convenient reach in case of an emergency and went back to sleep.... as much as I could with one eye open and one ear unplugged by the MP3 player ear spud speaker. I didn't want to unplug both ears because I knew by my more alert adrenaline filled brain that if I had to jump up again as long as one ear spud speaker was inserted in my ear the MP3 player would be dangling along side my 3rd shirt button within easy reach, in case of another emergency. Which came about an hour later. Once the crime scene had settled down and I was finally drifting back off to sleep I was again awakened by a commotion outside of the tent window. AGAIN by the light of the MP3 player display I saw the bears rummaging through the contents of the pick-a-nik basket. Grabbing the lantern, pot and spoon, (the heat still packed into my pants pocket) I ran out of the tent. Just in time to hear two different voices giggling with a tee-he-he-he-heee and see two bears ( one large wearing gloves and one small) running off into the woods carrying arm loads of Romaine dried noodles, condiments and my prized package of powdered coco, which I had been saving for a cold rainy day.:rippedhand:AGAIN! The only thing I could think of at the time was to yell at the bears as they ran off "YOU BETTER BRING BACK YAMMER DAN'S RIDING GLOVES OR HE IS GOING TO HUNT YOU DOWN AND BEAT YOU TO DEATH WITH HIS CRUTCHES". :soapbox:They didn't seemed impressed or scared because they didn't come back after that to return the gloves. I didn't get much sleep after that. Oh, I might of dozed a little until daylight, but, it's hard to sleep with one eye and ear open, and a loaded gun in your pants pocket. Once it was daylight I followed the debris trail into the underbrush where I found the remains of my cooler and contents where the marauding bears must have dined within eyesight of and within 50 feet of my tent. I must have walked within feet of the dining bears on our circular search of the area earlier that morning. Upon finding and analyzing the evidence :detective:I learned this about the marauding bears. They were evidently very smart bears due to their ability to talk and giggle. They were some what athletic due to their ability to climb on to each others shoulders to remove the cooler from the pole hook and run off into the woods carrying arms loads of stolen goods. They don't care to much for lettuce, tomatoes, whole wheat honey nut bread or pepper because they only gnawed into them but didn't eat them. They do like ham, cheese, Romaine dried noodles, salt, powdered Coco because they ate them up. They did not have a can opener because they left the can of Tuna Fish. (Dolphine safe tuna fish) BOOBOO evidently loves Duke's Mayonnaise because he must have been the one to unscrew the lid of the mayonnaise jar and lick it clean. He even licked the label off the jar. It could not have been Yogi because I don't see how Yogi could have unscrewed the lid wearing gloves. They were not Baptist and liked to party. I know this because they consumed the entire contents of the plastic container I had in the cooler which was filled with pre-mixed Gin and Tonic. They must have been Federally employed secret spy double nought bears because they left one intriguing piece of physical evidence on the pick-a-nik table. A lapel pin with the logo of the Central Intelligence Agency. I swear that all of the above is true and I can prove it by the photo evidence attached. OK I admit I did evoke poetic license and did embellish the story somewhat for entertainment value.
  12. I am curious if anyone else has had a problem with their MP3 connection. I am trying to use mine and it works playing a radio station from my MP3, but my recorded music which is formated MP3 does not play. I am curious if it is an early version of MP3 on the bike or if I need to change the MP3 format of my downloads????? Thanks for any advice.
  13. just a quick check to see if anyone has an unused headset they are willing to let go. I am wanting to use a set as I cant hear the radio with my flip up helmet on. With the shorty helmet all is well. Just want to try it out and see if a headset is for me or if it will be better for me to just use earbuds with my mp3. Thanks in advance , David
  14. I finally gutted my cassette player and wired for an mp3 player, as some post have been showing. When I connected everything back up. My radio is stuck on one channel, unfortunately the last channel I was on is Not my favorite. none of the preset channels work now, and they were not able to program them anyway from the previous owner, because the memo button didn't work. I used the scan button all the time because of that. I don't think it is related to the mods I did. BUt I would surely like to use the radio. Any suggestions? As far as the mp3 player connections. the volume is so low I can barely hear it any suggestion on that problem as well?
  15. I was just thrown into the 21st century on fathers day when my kids got me an MP3 player. Now I want to add a mini jack to my existing stock audio system so I can listen to the MP3 player or even plug a Garmin GPS to it. This would be on a 1st Gen an 86 VR. I have the stock wiring out of the standard maintenance manual, but has anyone spliced into the wiring to add a mini jack? and where did you connect it ? I want to be able to use the intercom and CB while listening to the MP3. I thought I read that someone gutted their cassette player and wired a MP3 player through it, but couldn't find the post as I searched through the post on MP3 players and audio. Did he wire right into the wiring? That's what I am looking to do. I don't want to upgrade the player, I have a FM modulator but too many cords and hate changing the stations when you leave or go into a different area. I think the best option would be to add a mini jack.
  16. Finally got a moment to install my Garmin. I placed it on the RH bar. It is integrated with the audio system through the cassette input. I gutted a cassette player and installed a switchbox. Now I flip a switch and the Garmin works with the intercom, CB, and the radio. The radio is cut off and then all the Garmin takes over. I also installed an XM receiver on the trunk. Finished the whole thing with a Buddy Rich microphone interface. Now, we have MP3 input, XM, cell phone, and navigation. I forget who sent me the cassette player, but you may claim a free switch interface conversion whenever you desire. Thanks for the extra unit. Things to do yet: 1. Line the box to eliminate rattles. 2. Solder up an audio triggered priority switch for the MP3 to Garmin. This will eliminate the manual switch and allow for navigation prompts when switched to MP3. 3. Finish the box cover. It will be a flat cover with a piano hinge. Sapper Medic has a line on refrigerator magnetic sealing material to hold down the cover. 4. Install the 12VDC socket for MP3/Cell Phone charging. It will go inside the pocket. The 2820 works great. I need to tweak the volume settings for the Bluetooth yet. It picks up my Motorola Q9c very well. It pulls in the phonebook well. My phonebook has a few hundred entries so it takes about 1 minute. The 2820 has a remote control, so Maggie can work it from the navigation platform (rear seat). It does not have a battery or an SD slot. However, it hooks via USB to the computer for using MapSource software. Volume from the system in all modes is fantastic. I like the wide screen and the buttons. JB
  17. OK... I ordered a Garmin 2720 Last night along with the Ram mount and the Motorcycle mount kit. My Next question is... MUSIC... What is the best and most reasonable cost for a music storage device? MP3... I POD... Etc. I know Nothing about these devices... so please feel free to educate me as well. Last question... Once i have all these in my hands .... Will I need anything special to make it all work on the RSV. Thank you Reaney in NH

    MP3

I have a 83 venture that I'm fixing up. It has no radio. Has anyone tried putting a splitter on a MP3 player so the driver and passenger can listen to the same MP3 player with ear buds? Will it be load enough to hear or does it really need a amp? Thanks in advance. Jeff
  19. I'm sure some of you guys have already figured this out but for some this may be interesting. I never listen to the radio. I always listen to my MP3 player. On our last big ride we had 12 bikes and most of them had load pipes. Going though Atlanta we also had the noise of 18 wheelers and cars. I had my MP3 player turned all the way up and the volume on the AUX pegged at 30. Yes I was getting distortion but it was the only way I could hear my MP3 player. The next day I was going through my junk and I noticed a old battery powered MP3/IPOD amplifier. I connected it to my MP3 player and turned the amp on and wow what a difference the amp made. I have Polk db401 speakers in the front and stock speakers in the rear. After a few minutes of listening to my music and trying the volume out my son pops his head into the garage and tells me my wife said to turn the volume down. Ok well I will take my Venture down the intersate and test her out. Without turning the volume up on the MP3 player and with the volume set at 20 on AUX the MP3 player was load and clear all the way up to 100 mph. WOOOHOOO!!!! Cheap fix. Now this amp doesn't do anything for the radio or cb but I hardly ever use either one of those anyway but for the MP3/IPOD it is great, cheap and easy to use. Harry:sign woo hoo:
  20. I need some of your help. I have a Garmin 550 and I wanted to load some of my music onto an SD card. When I connect it to my laptop and explore, all I see is two files One is the Garmin (looks like GPX files) The other says MP3. when I explore the MP3 it has a few songs BUT not from the SD card. How do you make the thing read the SD card? This is really a furstrating thingand I know you can help Sendme a PM or call me @ 512-699-2131 Thanks in advance for your help as I am sure some of you have had the same issue??
  21. been working on this for a couple of weeks..........i added gauges where the cassette was...still kept the mp3 jack...........just did a test run....wadda ya think.......
  22. has anyone done a connection for a mp3 into the audio system on a 1st gen? I was thinking of going through the cassette deck, but need wire colors and assignments, for the plug that comes out of the back. thanks
  23. 370161442310 Copy and paste this item # in Ebay to see. There was a thread a while back about hooking an mp3 player in and somebody posted about one that plugged right into the cassette player. I searched ebay and found one from Hong Kong that was 16.00 with shipping. I decided what the heck for 16 I would try it. It took about 20 days to get it. I tried it out a little while ago and it seems to work. I am sure not recommending it since I haven't had it that long and it is from China but I thought I would post a link for it for other people to look at if they wanted. My link kept saying the item had been removed but when you search for this item # it comes up.
