  1. Like most areas, the weather in Utah has been less the cooperative for riding this spring. But the weather gods smiled upon us here this past Saturday. Friday night a couple of friends and I left the hustle of the city and headed for the mountains and central Utah desert. Friday night we spent at my in-law's place in Orangeville. Saturday morning, after a leisurely breakfast, we rode up to Joe's Valley Reservoir above town and enjoyed the cool morning air, sun and beautiful country. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Joes%20Valley%20Reservoir%20%20Ferron%20AOG/IMG_1138.jpg After the reservoir ride, we headed to fuel up, get and drink and join with 34 other bikes and a special meeting with the church youth in the area about the riding and relating the protective gear to the Armor of God Paul taught about in Eph. 6. http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Joes%20Valley%20Reservoir%20%20Ferron%20AOG/IMG_1147.jpg Finally the ride home Most of the way home I noticed quite a bit of color on my arms and realized that I hadn't applied any sunscreen all day, even though the sun had been bright and temps in the mid 70's. Oh well, worth the discomfort!! After a long winter off, the bike ran great, 41 mpg (usually get 32). More rain (and some snow) today and tomorrow. Next weekend promises to be warm and sunny again.   2. I have a REALLY heavy heart this morning!!! We had to put two of the 4-legged children to sleep this morning. They were 15 or 16. Some will say typing through tears is silly as they were just dogs... R.I.P. Toy and Taylor Pictures are from happier times...
  3. I got off work yesterday morning at our local Wally World to find a rather familiar rig sitting at the far end of the parking lot. Ken's "Trick-Lights" rig was sitting there along with 2 motor coaches, 3 bikes, and a car [and who knows what else!]. Didn't take long for me to spot a certain white 1st gen so I figured Thom had to be along as well. Since I had no idea as to when they had pulled in, I headed for home without disturbing them. I sent Thom a PM to let him know they'd been spotted and to say HI! to Ken for me. When I went to work last night, the whole gang was still there. So when I got off work this morning, I pulled over by Thom's bike to see if anyone was going to be up and around anytime soon. Ken came out to take his dog for it's morning walk. I ended up getting invited in for morning coffee and found out why they had been parked there for two days. They were on their way back from the rally at Somerville. The lovely 60 mph wind gusts we'd had over the weekend had taken the awning off Ken's rig and they were waiting for parts to replace it as they were also on their way to the rally at New Braunfels. Oh Fun! Thom says HI!! to everyone and to let folks know that his cell phone went out on him over the weekend so he's been unable to read his "mail" and to add his 2 cents worth to things. He also almost froze his tootsies off as we had something like 40* weather around here last night! It got cold! For May at least. Parts for the awning are due in today. They have to get it rebuilt and rerigged today as they have to head out for New Braufels tonite. Another Oh Fun! I may make a run into town later on to make sure they got back on the road ok. That is not a small awning!

Breakfast - Me, the 16 yr old son, the 9 yr old son and the 9 yr old daughter. 19 yr old son is far too cool to get up for breakfast. 16 yr old looks out the window at the bright sunny morning and asks "Can you give me a ride to school on the bike this morning?" That started a chorus of 9 yr old "Me too!" Ok. 16 yr old first. 12 km round trip. Then the daughter. 8 km round trip. Then the other son. Another 8 km. Wake the 19 yr old so he'll get himself off to work on time, stow the kiddie helmet in the rack. Grab my tank bag (laptop and stuff for work) and off to the office. 18 km 1 way. Total 46 km. I'm 22 minutes late for work, but for some reason I can't stop smiling...

  6. Picked the new bike up from the dealership on Thursday, on the ride home I thought it was running a bit on the lumpy side but put it down to not being run much since it was imported from the US. When I got home I checked the temperature coming from the header pipes and the rear left was a lot cooler than the other three so first thing Friday morning I rang the dealer who told me he had no vans in the area to pick it up so I offered to ride it back for them to have a look at (only about 25 miles from me). On inspection they first reckoned it was a spark plug breaking down under load, then after further investigation discovered it was an intermittent fault with the coil, so after nearly three hours hanging around the shop they fitted a new ignition coil and handed it back to me, was I annoyed? Naaah, these things happen. Anyway the bike ran ok on the way home, it just felt like it needed the carbs balancing......you know, a little hesitant on the throttle and a little vibration through the footpegs, I wasn't too worried as the dealer wanted me to drop It back the following week as they had to fit a non genuine coil to get me going and were ordering a genuine Yamaha part as soon as the Easter holidays were over so I thought they could sort it out then. Didn't get a chance to use the bike yesterday because of work but I'd arranged a breakfast run for this morning, so I went out this morning to start her up and she's sounding a bit rough, so I ran her round for about 15 minutes and when I get her back guess what? The rear RIGHT cylinder is stone cold........am I annoyed now? Oh yes I sure am......So I get underneath the bike to have a look and make sure the connections to the coils are ok (which they are), but I notice that that the coil for the rear right cylinder is only held on by the bottom mounting bolt.....the top one is missing because the coil doesn't fit the mounting holes correctly and there is a gap of about half an inch. So thats where I am up to now, stuck at home on a lovely spring day. How is Royal Star ownership going so far?   7. Ordered my new headsets on the 11th. They were here today Place an order late friday via internet after hours and get the items on a Tuesday morning is very impressive. Nice looking headsets as well. Cannot wait to use them.

  12. Bubber and his lovely Missus had spent their entire lives living in North Branch, MN, and Bubber was tired to the winter snow and cold weather. So, after much thought and discussion they decide to move south to Minneapolis. Well, they picked the wrong winter to move south. The other morning they are up having their morning coffee when the radio announces the emergency snow route advisement. All vehicles are to be parked on the even side of the street to allow the snow plows to clear the streets. Being the good citizen that he is, Bubber gets bundled up and goes out to park his car on the even side of the street. It snows all night, and the next morning the radio announces that all vehicles are to be parked on the odd side of the street. So, Bubber heads out and parks his car on the odd side of the street. A few days later, they are again listening to the radio when the announcer starts to tell folks which side of the street they need to park on. Unfortunately, the power goes out before the announcer can tell them which side of the street to park on. Now Bubber is really confused and asks the Missus what she thinks he should do. She thinks about this for a few minutes. Then she reaches over, pats Bubber on the hand and says, "Honey, why don't you just leave the car in the garage today?"

  14. My wife is going in for surgery today at 8:30 to correct a broken nose that she got playing baseball as a little girl. Please wish her luck and keep her in your prayers this morning. Thanks Joe
  15. Just wanted to share this with everyone. Some of you know about all my struggles with my left eye and some don't. It's a long story but I will make it short. While on a trip out west last June I had hemorrhaging in my left eye and a membrane tear inside the eye and lost the sight in it. I have had 3 different surgeries since then with no results. I have been able to see about a total of 3 weeks since June 24th when this happened. We had one more chance to fix it with this last (4th) surgery I had on the 10th of this month. As of this morning (Tuesday the 18th) I can now see. It isn't 20/20 but about 20/70 or so and I can live with that. It is so wonderful to be able to see out of both eyes again. You know how it is ,You only had 4 hours of sleep, you get ready, jump in the SUV, pick up your friend ,he's in the same condition you are, walk to you favourite fishing hole, drill the holes, 6 inches of ice ,safe enough and still half asleep realizing that your body is sort of freezing ,Your minnow are frozen to the ice. your coffee is frozen and the Kobassa is like a steel bar, winds are 20-25 kph and your cheeks are numb. Call the weather office from the lake its -27c and the windshield factor is -35C Packed up and go home to thaw out Im still thawing out
  17. Had a good visit with jrichard this weekend. He came thru Thursday evening on his way to Texas. Left this morning as I left out for work. Good to see him.
  18. Ice build up tore my gutter down along with some siding ,soffet and facia boards........on the way down it hit 2 of my air conditioners.... If thats not bad enough my sliding glass doors are leaking this morning and my toilet ball rod just snapped off..........HAPPY NEW YEAR.........:bawling:I hope this is not the way the rest of my year is going to be...on the other hand , Bongobob invited me over for LASAGNA..YA HOO!!!..maybe I take that BAD juju over to his house and leave it there.....50 degrees and rain this morning....I love living in BUFFALO...!!!!!!!!!!

Severe weather warnings in Buffalo NY. 12 TO 18 more inches expected FOR BUFFALO ...east and the areas north of Buffalo by tomorrow morning..Left work 4hrs. early after battling to get in this morning........Taters has a party tonight and says she is going....(she ain't right in the head) BONGOBOB, I thought YOU lived in the snow belt?   20. After 10 years and 135K mostly trouble free miles on my RSV I finally decided to replace her a few weeks ago with an 08 Wing. There were a few things that I wanted to do to the RSV before I put it up for sale. The CB hasn't worked right for years and the cruise control seemed "weak" but I never used them anyway, so wasn't to concerned at the time and let it go. Thought I had better see if I could get them working better for the next owner. Short story is that three weeks ago I put the bike in my shop and started tinkering with it, getting things cleaned and fixed up. Changed oil, plugs, etc. Went down there this morning to do a couple things (getting out of the house mostly) and guess what...the rear shock has puked all over the floor!!! Just setting there! I guess this is revenge from the old girl for replacing her with a newer model. Had a wife like that once. Anyone interested in a great running 99 RSV that still needs work, pretty cheap?
  21. I told the dealer that I'd give them my old Jaguar and my Valk for a blue/black '07 RSV. They called this afternoon and said that they'd take the deal. If the rain allows it I'll go in the morning and make the trade. The Jag needs some work and so does the Valk so I think I'll be coming out ahead.......until I start missing the Valkyrie again, then who knows what I'll do.
  22. Got an appointment for 8:00 am Monday morning at the Winnebago factory in Forest City Iowa. We've been having some trouble with one of the slide outs and they need to remove it to make the fix. I figured it would be much smarter to let the guys who built it, fix it, rather than the dealer. So we're off bright and early tomorrow morning. Planning to head to Branson Mo. afterwards for a few days.

At other times this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, lineUP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP ! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary.. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4 of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used.   24. Went for a ride this morning and my CB will not turn on. Radio worked fine. CB has been working fine until this morning. Tried a search on here, but the words CB and on are too short to use as keywords...:-) I did recently have the seat off to install an Ultimate backrest. I'm not sure where the CB is, but there are wires that run along the top of the rear fender under the seat. Did I mess something up with them? Open for ideas on what to start checking. Scott....
  25. I think I might have found my comfort limit for riding in the cold. This morning for the 1 hour ride to work it was 38°F and I got to work before sunrise. Tomorrow morning it is supposed to be in the low 30s or high 20s, I'll give it one more chance, but I will get out my big orange Gortex hunting coat and bibs. Not sure yet what I will use for gloves, If I get much heavier than what I wore today (my fingers were cold and numb) I do not know if it will impair my ability to operate the buttons safely. I know that I can easily dress warm for my feet and body, it is only my hands that seem to be the issue.
