  1. I have been looking for the valve tool and dang they are expensive. Does anyone have one to sell me or rent one? I have seen some sell for 25$ and that is reasonable, but 75 is way out there. I know there has to be someone out there that has made their own tool. Please show me some more options on how you removed the shims. I seem to just miss all the good deals on the tool and shim kits. Can anyone help? Am I correct that the 1st gen Ventures use a 25mm valve shim?
  2. I know you didn't miss me but I'm finally back. I rejoined several months ago but apparently did something wrong. I was so busy at work and travelling that I failed to follow up. I've been in Florida working August and until the end of Sept. Seems I'm missing some real nice riding weather back in Va. Is this true Ben? Are you back yet Ben? Did I miss anything major? BTW. You Florida people can keep this weather. I'm not on my bike and I miss it terribly. Even the dogs I'm training are starting to revolt due to the heat and these dogs will be going to Afghanistan soon.
  3. The time has come to get rid of my 1st gen. This bike is just not for me.It is a great bike but I use it as a daily rider. The Venture needs to be ridden two up and out touring the country and not ridden daily to work.I am loaning the bike to a friend of mine that may be interested in buying it.If not I will place it in the classifieds.I really miss my Vstar as a daily rider.
  4. This is my nephew, Robert. He's had a tough go at life early on. Homelife wasn't always the best, but I have always tried to be there for him. He left Knoxville for Basic training in early April. His first stop was in Arkansas for his GED, then on to Ft Benning, Ga for Basic and Infantry school. There was no way that I was gonna miss this. I am so proud of him. He's the 3rd generation in our family to go Army. Now he waits to be deployed with the Tennessee National Guard. HOOAH!
  5. Just noticed the grey bar for "town, time & temperature" is missing from my signature. Freebird is the only other person I could remember that had one, but his is gone too! Did I miss a post:doh: explaining this or am I the 1st to notice?
  6. :bang head: And whats the Next Best Thing other than a 1st Gen..... It's A 2006 Yamaha FJR 1300 Need I say More,, I went to the darker side of Dark Yes No More 2nd GEN
  7. In a few days we, and 4 other couples, will be heading to SW WI for a week of crucid, up-and-down roads. One RSV, 3 wings, and a Buell of some kind. Can't wait to get going. We will be staying near Victory, WI, and riding both sides of the Mississippi in the area. Just wondering if any of you have any "don't miss" roads, parks, eat spots, or anything else that you would like to recommend for us. We have some tentative routes planned out, but they are subject to change or being completely thrown out for other ideas. Thanks in advance. Larry
  8. Help, I'm at my wits end, 1986 VR. Dealer siliconed all the coils and wires, connections, they just replaced second gear and i hoped they would solve the miss while the motor was out, but I just washed the bugs off the windshield and the next morning it is only running on 2 cylinders. I hardly used any water, this is ridiculous. If I get caught in the rain or wash the bike, it will run fine, until the next day, then it's down for 3 days, until it dries out. Anyone ever have this happen, help. How do I fix this, where do I start?
  9. I sure miss my bike. Miss riding in this beautiful weather. Sure missed coming to M. Day at Don's and seeing everyone. This really SUCKS. Just had to vent.
  10. I've got my low speed miss narrowed down to this; idles good, slowly take the throttle up and miss gets real noticeable at about 2000 rpm and at 2500 [by the tach] it clears right up and is gone. By pulling plug wires one at a time and grounding an old plug in the wire I found that cyls.. #1 and #3 both lost spark at 2000 and came back at 2500. Any ideas on this?
  11. The new motor in my lowly lst Edition 86 is totally complete; and all the bugs have been worked out. This is one heck of a strong runner. I am again ridin around looking for a challenge. That eliminates all Harleys and all 2d Editions. I still miss my 88 though. And I most likely won't be ridin my Harley Ultra for a while. Besides she likes just sittin in the garage covered up waiting; just waiting.
  12. The wife, myself, brother and son have decided to take a trip over into Louisiana. Natchitoches to be exact. We have been several times and have always complained about the hotels being to far from the town center. Well, owning a few vacation rental homes we decided to check into a home. For one night four of us get to stay, 1 block off the square and within easy walking distance of all the food and "bars, The real reason we want to be close!" http://www.vrbo.com/288807 Really, how sweet is that. We usually miss the action and set around a dark dank hotel altering our mental state....now we can pay extra in a bar....with a few additional people. Heading up to Jefferson Texas after and could only find a monster home with a 160' private slide?
  13. Dropped the insurance on Lil'Red. Going to miss it but Too many Bikes.
  14. Well, i took dads 1500 and rode down to missouri! Just figured i'd stop in and say hi, I miss my Venture!!!!
  15. My seals are leaking now and I'm bottoming out easily. I don't have any new springs or seals to put in and I'm just not wanting to miss a sunny day My seals are leaking now and I'm bottoming out easily. I don't have any new springs or seals to put in and I'm just not wanting to miss a sunny day on the road. Today I will add oil to the front tubes but I was wondering....can a person put some Power Steering Stop Leak in the tubes to help the seals? (I did try the trick of lifting the dust cover and running a bead on top of the seal. This helped a little. Did not last long though.) What if any effect would this thickener/stop leak have on the performance/operation of the tubes?
  16. He was only 59, but not looking after himself properly combined with health issues has cut his life short. His familly has asked me to pass thier thanks along with my own to all of those who were kind enough to pray for him. He was an avid outdoorsman hunter and fisherman and I for one will miss the many outdoor times we had together. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=47822
  17. did the LAW finally catch up with "REDNECK"??? i haven't seen him post in ages. sure do miss all of his "sugar coated" posts and replies. just jt
  18. Where's Cindy been? I know I miss her posting, hope all is going well with them. Come on Cindy let us know how it's going. Margaret
  19. Now that I am back in VA, it sure is depressing looking outside and my Midnite RSV ain't sitting there. I sure do miss that bike! I only had her for 7 months but man we had some good times! RIP my black beauty!!!! http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs494.snc3/26972_1362195648803_1048940196_31078560_6669339_n.jpg Taken 2 hours before the accident on 3/27. She sure was looking and running good that morning. Just the day before I had ridden her from Washington DC to Myrtle Beach, SC and just topped 10K miles. She was so young!!!!:crying::crying::crying::crying: Ben
  20. I have bubs with the messed up tips as well. When I removed the tips and baffles there was no packing left at all. Just for the fun of it I started up my bike and loved the way it sounded. I use to have a v-star 1100 w/vance and hines and miss that sound. So what would happen if I dont put my baffles back in? Would my carbs need to be re-jetted? Would heat become an issue and cause the pipes to crack, chip, or blue??
  21. I love my Venture. For the type of riding my wife and I do together, it's the ideal bike. I previously owned Honda VTX 1800s, though. Despite my love of my Venture, I still sometimes really miss the massive torque and responsiveness of those large V-twins. I could buy a 2nd bike, I guess, but I hate paying for the insurance on the bike I have, plus having a secure place to park it at night would be a problem for me. Does anyone else feel this way? The V-4 is a great motor, no doubt about it. But if you've previously owned a large V-twin, don't you miss it sometimes?
  22. I put 320 miles on her friday and so far I love it! I do miss my Venture but I have something I can ride now! http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc340/MARKANDBINA/scavy%20pics/scavy014.jpg
  23. I don't miss living up North.......:rotf:
  24. A deer with the company van. The roads are snow covered and I could not miss it.Thats 2 since New Years. Tonight I'm driving my truck to get Ramona. I'm going to try my best to hit one. Maybe I will miss it. Trying to avoid them doesn't work.
  25. Do'es anyone here have 1st hand experince with the Voiger conversion? I've recently converted my 86 VR but haven't had the opertunity to get any saddle time. I'm looking for riding/ handleing tips. I know I'll miss 2 wheeling, but I have a 2 up partiner now, and at 73 yr old I know my limitations.
