  1. I was on you tube and found this video its a vulcan 900 I believe. Tell me I'm not hearing things it has a whine also. I'm not feeling so bad about mine now. I still ordered the 424 mufflers though. here's the video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R498Yy7nyvA]YouTube- Go Pro HD Full HD1080p: 1920x1080[/ame]
  2. exhaust collector for an 83 that they would like to sell,it seems that mine is wore out. Arthur
  3. Just thought I'd mention this.... With the Euro falling like a rock against the dollar you can get a Carbtune and storage case shipped to your door for around $75.00. I think I paid about $115 bucks when I bought mine a couple of years ago. Good company to do biz with... Ooops, my bad. That's for the 2 column. The 4 will run about $85US. Still a deal...
  4. one of the major weak points of all 1800 wings is the front suspension. the stock 1800 wing has anti dive and piss poor front springs, that sag early in life, and are to soft to begin with. the dampening is not the best either. there are two fixes for this . both make a difference of night and day in handling and ride. the first and most expensive is traxxion suspension like eck has on his. the poor mans fix is the race tech springs, gold valve and emulator like i have installed in mine. mine was around $400.00 for parts and i did it myself. the traxxion is over $2000,00 dollars and it requires machining of the forks , so you have to have them or one of their dealers do it. i consider either of these mods a must after riding mine stock, and with the modification. both mods deactivate the antidive as part of the install. you can deactivate the antidive with a simple mod and a nickle with a hole drilled in it, but then the front springs will be noticibly inadequate on hard stops. the antidive basically locks up the front forks when stopping hard and makes for a really rough ride when decelerating and using the brakes, front or rear. since wings have interlocking front and rear brakes it does it when using both brakes. some folks may not be bothered or notice the inefficiency of the oem set up. if your wanting the ultimate handling and suspension performance out of your wing, either one of these mods will make a big difference. the big gains are, much improved rebound on rough roads, a firmer ride, slightly more ground clearance (harder to drag my highway boards now), and a more secure feel in the curves. wings are unbelievable in the handling department. i can't believe a bike this big can can handle like a sport bike.
  5. Well GW'ers we've got our own section of the forum. Thanks Don! Now that we can come out of the closet how about posting some pics of your Wings? Here's a couple of mine. It's an '06 Airbag model with 29K mi on the odo.
  6. So I bought my Venture in March and with the snow haven't had much of a chance to ride it, this weekend however we went out on a family ride, My son took my R1 and my wife on her Sportster, we went up in to the twisties above Denver. All I can say is WOW, the bike handles like a dream on the curves, and I kept up with the kid on the R1 in most turns the only time he got away from me was on the short chute straights where his acceleration out did mine. I'm really glad I bought the VR and can hardly wait for the balance of the summer to be here so I can really see what it can do. I ordered a new set of progressive front springs for it this morning, hopefully I'll have them installed in the next couple of weeks... It may be 30 years old but it's going to have a place in my garage for a long time to come. Ride Safe
  7. to those of you who HAVE changed your mufflers, did you have to cut the originals off. All connections on mine seeem to be welded. Any idea if this is original? thanx
  8. Hi there, my 2005 Midnight Venture has only a single key supplied with the bike. Can any locksmith replicate mine, or does it need to come from a Yamaha dealer? Thanks, Rob
  9. Anybody know if something is going on with Buckeye Performance? I've been trying to access their website http://www.buckeyeperformance.com this morning and it just doesn't seem to be there. Can anyone else get on that site? Also, I noticed that Rick's membership has expired. Hmmmm.....hope he's still around. A friend of mine needs one of his high output stators. EDIT: Never mind.....site is working now. Must have been a temp glitch.
  10. There is an estate auction at our next door neighbors Sunday with an 89 Virago 1100 on it. It's got a bad back tire, the auctioneer doesn't know if it will start and it's got the derndest thing on the gas tank. It's a relief of a precious moments figure on it (I know, I know.....don't mean to speak ill of the dead, but he was an odd ball to say the least) but.....I'm hoping I can get it for about $200.00. I'll put a new tire on it, get that #%*# thing off the gas tank, have it repainted for $200.00. Hopefully the battery will just need charging. When I get done with it, I hope to have a match to mine. Wish I had a pix to show you how ugly mine was before I had it repainted. This bike is quite a bit older than mine, but the style is pretty much the same. If I get this thing....I'm going to have to post a pix of what that gas tank looks like. Anyway...this is how I'm hoping to have it look when I get done. Wish me luck!!
  11. Well the venture that i have on my profile was mine then it wasnt then it was and well finally my friend and I made the deal today and I finally have title in hand... so it is mine all mine... Starting tomorrow I am gonna get it ready for the road. I am needing some tires but I have to be honest I need some inexpesnvie ones. I am looking at dunlop d404 42 bucks for the back, brand new, and about 60 bucks for the front one.. is that a good sub 100 dollar tire or does anyone else have any ideals? I did get my mirrors in the trade and I cant wait to ride this thing. I rode the 700 nighthawk home today from terre haute to evansville, in and it is a nice little around town bike but honestly I feel cramped on it. I am not a real big guy but I do like to stretch.. Now I guess I gotta get a subscription on here so I can keep talking and getting good feedback from the really awesome forum...:smile5:
  12. About a month and a half ago I ordered a spoiler for the Mighty Steed. I still ain't got it. It seems that Yamaha don't keep them in stock and only order them when they get a sufficient number of orders to make an order from the vendor. So here is my plea, If you have been on the fence to get one hop off dead center and order so I can get mine. Thanks in advance. Herb
  13. I replaced the rear tire on my 99.While I had the tire off I did all the maintenance known to mankind. My friend wanted his done also so we got started. After greasing the driveshaft we attempet to reinstall it.No go.The driveshaft wont line up with the yoke.Guess I got lucky with mine cause it went in the first try.Not so on his.We spent 2 days and still dont have the driveshaft in.We tried everything we can think of.Any suggestions or help will be much appreciated.
  14. Does anybody have the stock quick release windshield that would fit a 2006 tour deluxe? I bought mine used and it was missing. Thanks, Brian
  15. Most of us know what factory paint looks like and i think Yamaha has some good colors . Buuuuuuuuuuuuut you know their are a few of us that can,t leave well enough alone . so i would like to start a thread on pic's of our after market paint jobs and why we can't leave well enough alone , i'll start , sense i have painted mine 3 time in less than 3 years ! when i got mine it had a ruff life and looked pretty bad , my so called friends that i rode with where at the same feeling as me - don't care what you ride as long as you ride - until i showed up with my faded brown 1 gen , very faded brown , it was the same color of a well fed dog leaves behind . the day that i made up my mind to paint her is when i was following a friend and a another rider came up beside my friend and told him he need to change his diet because he is leaving ruff looking turds behind him , enough said , my bike got the 1st paint job ! this is the only pic's of it when it was brown . the pic and a lot of wax made it look a lot better than it was than the Met. silver with ice green next it blue and a few mods , that was after a nice lady backed over it , at present 3 stage Met white with Met. blue I showed y'all mine , now it's your turn !
  16. I know its been discussed here before but I am too lazy to search and really dont have the time to right now, I need to know what year rear box will fit and 83 without modification or maybe just a little of it. I have seen some 83-85 with an 86 box and wondering if its just a simple swap. After all my repair on mine some of the cracks have reappeared since they were repaired and repainted. I hate cracked plastic, and the bigger box would be nice also.
  17. Anyone on here work in Crystal City, VA? I rode the bike into work Tuesday night and low and behold there was a RSV parked 4 spots down from mine on Crystal Drive Wednesday morning. It was still pretty dark outside so I couldn't tell the color. It was our 2 RSV's and about 6 Harley Electra Glides. I didn't realize the size difference in the two bikes until I saw the one parked beside mine. The Harley looked puny! If I don't get a reply on this, I am gonna put a flyer for VR.org on his bike if I see it again! Gotta get the word out right? Ben
  18. Where can i get the hard 90 degree hose that comes off of the water pump to the front of the bike. Got a hole in mine. Long story. Thanks Doug
  19. But this one is mine!! http://www.members.shaw.ca/rsxer/RSV.jpg
  20. Anyone out here have a Calif. Friendship III sidecar? I'm looking for the wiring diagram for mine. Also looking for a place to buy parts.
  21. I want to have a Butt Butler Mod, But my seat is ripped at the seam on the front, Rick can't repair it so I need a cover or a seat. I have checked eBay and what I found were in worse or the same shape as mine. I can get a cover for $100.00 + BBM $70.00=$170.00 + shipping, So dose any one have a seat or know where I can get a cover? I would like to get the coast down if I can. Thanks, Dale
  22. It sounds worse than it really is... At some point in its long life, my new to me '89 VR had fallen on its right side and damaged the chin fairing. One of the bolt holes on this side has been torn completely away. I'm wondering if someone might have a damaged chin laying around with a good right side? My plan is to graft this side onto mine using some glue I got from the plastic supply place. They say it's supposed to make a molecular bond with ABS plastic. We'll see when I try to repair the cracks... Any thoughts or help is appreciated.
  23. Its listed as a 1999, but its a Millenium with 25,000 miles for $5900. Not mine, but thought someone else might be interested. http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/1999-Yamaha-Venture-96151852
  24. Hope this keeps someone from getting stranded (or worse) on their 1st Gen. Check the short throttle cables - from the plastic junction box on left of the frame (where cruise cable connects) - to the carb assy. Mine pull side was frayed to within 2-3 small strands remaining where it hooks to the carbs. If it had let loose on the road it would not be a fun walk home. I only caught this Sunday during my first carb off cleaning. Fairing is removed now (was actually really easy), but I think you could inspect this in place with a flashlight. Look up between the left side intake manifolds, you may see the cable to the carb linkage coming down out of a tube, thats where it frays. I since found posted elsewhere here these tend to let go at 40-60K on 1st Gens. Mine has 61K. Had to dig to find this info, so hopefully this puts it in a more prominent place. Snow is at least good for one thing - maintenance........ Can't wait to get the old girl back on the road with her new clean carbs, Diaphraghms, valve adjust, plug wires etc.
  25. Now we have one so let's all make a choice and see where it goes. The "I" basket seems to have cured mine.
