Gail on her 1100 Virago and I no my 83 std. went on a charity ride for Richmond county Hospice. A 55 mile ride through the country some up and down and twisties, we ended up at the Rockingham Speedway. We got to do 4 laps around the Little Rock, a 1/4 mile oval track that was a rush!!! that was worth the $10.00 per bike. One rider on his Harley had to push it and went off the track, broke his windshield turn signal and some road rash but OK lucky for him the track was surrounded by sand. Then we went to a restaurant for hot dogs with all the fixens and of course ice cream:cry:, was a great day yes it was. Gail had fun to but only did 2 laps around the track.

Just hit the 4000 mile mark and really can not afford to go see the stealer for this service so I pulled up the service chart and was surprised to see that they recommend 8000 miles on an oil change. So is there any thing critical on the 4000 mile check or do I hang my key for the year and hope I get back to working a 40 Hr week by next season.

Any one going to the Indy Mile? This will be a historic year. Kenny Roberts is going to be taking his TZ750 for a few hot laps between races. This is the Yamaha two stroke that he won the 1975 Indy mile on the last lap. I was there to watch this one. The AMA banned the two strokes after 3 races--Too dangerous. Even Kenny agreed. I just found out about it or it would have been part of my summer plans. Steve

From first time I found this web site I have learned a lot about my bike a XVZ 1300 ctt. I was frustrated that I could not touch my bike because of the warranty, yes I bout it new November 16th 2006 and today 27 May 2009 I have done 63414km (39,403 mile) with not a fault the warranty hear in Australia is for 2 years only you guys are lucky to have 5 years I have changed the oil every 5000 km (3106 mile) about I have changed on the rear 6 tyres and 5 brake sets 0n the front 4 tyres and 1 brake set throw this site I made a rear set of Leveling link the bike handles allot better and found out what I needed to tune and service so now I have service manual a ez-tach tachometer Morgan carbtune colortune a cam tool from Yamaha it has all arrived from US to Australia so this weekend I am working on my bike valve clearance carbsink and tune THANK YOU ALL PIPER Adelaide Australia -
What can I expect to pay for the 16K mile scheduled maintanence? Thanks for any insight. BTW..I am useless as a mechanic, so don't even bother with DIY.

Well just arrived home from a shorty trip of around 30 mile or so, on my new Avon Venoms (front and back). Man I really love these tires. Thanks to everyone for your help and replies about the tires. I tried them out on the two lanes here (US 60) about 12 mile, and then hit the big road (I-64). Fastest ever had her since purchase, around 105 mph, SSSMMMMOOOOTTTHHH as silk. Very good tires. The stalk Brickstones had 4000 miles on them, run back tire low on air for about 120 mile or so and it is almost completely worn out in center. I was having a knee problem (had to have surgery) and didn't relise the tire was that low, wanted to check but knee would not let me. I usually keep a good check on my tires. But I think it worked out best for me anyway. I really like those Venoms. Bike handles so much better at all speeds and conditions. Just got to get them skuffed in now. I did the complete tire change myself, with a little help from a friend and you all. I did all the grease on splines and changed differintial grease for the second time, just because it was so handy. I took the tires on wheels to a shop and he computer balanced them for me for $15.00 a piece. The back tire, after removed the weights from factory, did not even have to have any weight, perfect. The front had to have just 3/4 once. I have a question for those that have changed there own tires. Do the Venoms have a paint mark to go by ? I could not find any kind of valve mark. And what about when it comes time to change again, just put back the same ? I love my Laran jack. once again , thanks to all. -

Ok Gang here is the scoop.. As most of you know I had my Bike converted to a trike a few weeks ago. ALSO had a now triple tree installed for a 6 deg Rake. (GLAD I DID THAT) Anyhow... I first got it back.. and was riding around town to get used to her then I put Cruse on and it worked for about a mile or so... (kicks Off) Now more time passes I have been riding longer and farther now. Been a Gas BTW... Now when I activated the cruise control while riding. the blue light goes on and it is waiting. I HIT SET and it would go into it HOLD.. As of couple days it will only last a 10th of a mile or so.. Today.. Get all ready to test it again.. blue light is ready.. hit SET and Nothing. The RES/SET lights just keep trying over and over again.. until it will shut down itself. I am thinking it had something to do with the Rake Kit Added. I have an email sent off to the owner. I am sure he will be good for it.. nice folks. But I just didn't want to deal with bring it there and taking the day off and waiting all day.. thought maybe if one of you geniuses might think it could be something so simple . I talk the installer and they say they didn't remove anything. yeah whatever. and he did check the Cruise. It worked FINE until I got it back.. This is there first install on this Kit all went well and I am very pleased with there work , but I do not have Cruise anymore. HELP???? (bike only has 10,700 miles on it.) I also have checked both lower fairings all looks good there. I also have checked the speedo. Also have checked all the switches as for as how they look going in and out etc. have not checked behind the fairing yet. Gatta have somthing to do with the rakeing I bet. put the federal c/t on my bike today. job of getting old one off wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. just took off both saddlebags and right slip on muffler. tire is almost same as m/t tire as far as high and width goes. rode it a mile felt no big difference but a longer ride will help. snowing and windy here. some pics on my post

I was just curious how fast or slow a RSTD runs a 1/4 mile and Speed. It sure feels slow compared to my FJR.

I Have about 9000 mils on my Avons by now, and they look little flat on center. Preparing to go to Ashville, I dont want to take last mile out of tire. Can somebody tell me where are those wearing marks on tire. Thanks.

Hey Folks: Your thoughts if you please...Here in Ole Virginia it has been about 90 +/- 2 or 3 degrees...So I have noticed that the engine case really gets HOT during summer riding...Yesterday we did a ride of about 200 miles and of course the heat from the engine is something I have become accustom to....Today however I made a short 20 mile trip to a local motorcycle shop...spent about 1/2 hour there and rode back.....parked the bike....about 1 to 1 1/2 hours later I decided to go our and cover the bike...I always check the engine case by hand to see if to HOT to put on a cover..(condensation thing)...anyway...Motor was still very warm...I could put my hand on the side, but could not leave there for long....Still pretty warm after almost two hours.... THOUGHT: If oil is gets this hot during short run....What about a LONG summer ride ?..It CAN NOT be good for the engine?....Like most on this site I have never heard the fan kick on...DOES is give anyone else "pause" that these motors get this HOT...Just a thought....I see a lot of mile by a lot of folks...with NO mention of engine temp problems...Again just a thought.... :scared:On June 22nd 10:15pm on the way home after 300 mile ride to see our BACA kids.I was reflecting on the events of the day.When all at once a little piggy (200lbs)jumped out of ditch at about ten feet had just enough time to oh! impact dead center 60mph.Woke up sliding on my back ,bike fling over and landing in front of me.I watched it slide into ditch about 30ft.ahead of my landing.At this point i could not that I am concious(no helmet)I usually wear one. When I stand up I realize right eye is swole shut,forehead bleeding,both arms look like hamburger,left leg is killing me and I am in the middle of no where. I here a car coming from the north, my luck it turns off a mile before me. I can still hear hogs around and decide this is not a place to hang around,I see a light south of me and start toward it dragging my left leg and hoping they did not have dogs.Knocked on door and requested 911 waited on heli.Nothing broke just skined and bruised. GLAD TO BE HERE!! P.S. Son just told me it was 3/4 mile to that house.Also I was on the Roadstar,Venture was in the shop.

I went from 38/40 MPG to 23 MPG after my 600 mile service. Can anyone tell me what the problem is,?

Do I have to do the 600 mile maint. at the dealer.....or can I just change my own oil & rear end lube???? And, if I do it myself, does it effect the warrenty?? I'll take it in if I have to....I just dont wnt to pay 250 bucks for an oil change!! Thanks.

Fought the wind here in S. TX for the last 3 days and am wore down to a nub!! Don't really know the actual wind speed but estimate 25-30 mph straight wind with gusts up to 35-40 mph. Done wore out both sides of the Avons, never put the first mile on the center tho! LOL Also, never have had the wind try to take my helmet off, almost strangled me until I got the shield down! Oh well, all's well that ends well. :cool10: Don H.

There is a Test Ride Event on Sunday March 16th, starts at 10:00AM. Address is 6051 North Washington Blvd (301) in Sarasota, its just a bit South of University. They have pretty much all of their line there. Just sign a waiver, bring a helemt and show your motorcycle endorsement. You then pick the model you want to ride and go. They take you on a 7 mile loop, never got up to highway cruising speed though. I went on 4 rides in a row today, as long as a bike is available they will let you ride.
