  1. Boy Guys and Gals, I could really use some help on this one! I am an IDIOT when it comes to electric problems! I had the 86'VR in the garage to replace the starter solenoid and after the work, the headlight will not come on when I turn on the key. No low beam or high beam. So far I have checked the fuse (good) and sprayed contact cleaner in the ignition switch with no good results. PLEASE help me!!! Earl
  2. i have a 99 rsv and today while riding the raidio sound stoped. and when i pulled over you could hear it but very low and the volume nob made no diff after a while it will start to work. any help would be great thanks.
  3. I was just going through the maint. section and reading all the good info there. Your article on clutch slip was really good but you metioned how it was strange that the the clutch would slip in high gear and not in low gear. This is actually is not strange at all as the higher you go up the gear pattern the more load there is placed on the clutch. In transport trucks drivers will often complain that there clutch is slipping on hill climbs we verify this in the shop by placing the transmission in its highest gear then gently let the clutch out. This will either cause the clutch to slip or stall the engine. If we did this in low gear even a clutch that is starting to slip would tear out the driveline unless it was slipping really bad. One thing we really have to watch is as the engines come with higher horse power the force on the driveline increases. wouldn't want to explain that one to a customer. hope you dont tak take this the wrong way and as always keep up the great work.
  4. After bleeding the brakes on my 83 Venture took bike out of garage and let it run about 10 minutes to get warmed up. Test rode about 3 miles (was raining) and pulled back in. Brakes worked great but felt pedal getting tighter and tighter. After getting back could hardly push bike forward. Put on center stand and could hardly turn front and rear wheels by hand. Left bike alone about an hours and brakes released somewhat. I had read to leave brake reservoir low for heat expansion. I only left it about a 1/2 inch low. Could it of heated the brake fluid that much in such a short amount of time? And do I need to take more fluid out of reservoir? Or do I have to look for another problem? Thank You....Karl
  5. We shot this for our local Town's annual chirstmas light up event and timing is everything. By pure luck just as they threw the switch, a beautiful Cinderella Carriage came through the shot and make it the perfect shot. We had been out there all evening waiting in the low teens freezing, but this shot made it worth the wait. I'll take luck as well as skill anytime! 6. I have looked and haveny seen any threads on this, My 99 rsv low feul light does not come on. Is there a fuse or is the bulb blowin? The light does not come on when i turn on the key like the others do. That brings me to another question... Where is the fuses? I hope there not in the fairing. It bothers me that its not working.
  7. There are some fantastic rides on the Peninsula. Port Angeles is the pivot point for most of the rides here. Perfect riding weather from mid May to October 1st - low 60's to low 80's daytime - low 50's to hi 60's nighttime - far enough North daylight hours from 430 am to 1030 pm june - july. Port Angeles is jump off point for ferry to Vancouver Island and Victoria BC, Great rides on Vancouver Island, plenty of Cutters needed summer inland though, damn skeeters. My house is outside of Port Angeles on side of a mountain over looking Strait of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island across the water, plenty of room with acerage for tent campers, can board in house as well, couple of extra bedrooms and loads of floor space. Large Hot tub to soothe those iron butts and decent shop to tinker on scoots or if needed major work. Wife and I love company and lots of friends wander in and out during summer "doing the Peninsula" all are welcome. Please this is not an insincere invite, feel free to give us a call and come see some great riding country with what we hope you'll feel some decent hospitality from us. You'll meet a lot of folks here from all over this area, just might make some lifelong friends, great bunch of folks show up around here all summer. BBQ'n most every night NW style with fresh Dungies, salmon, ling cod and halibut. Open invite all summer - come one come all. Bull & Suzanne
  8. I was doing a little surfing and decided to check out the some netbooks. Dang, they're right up there with full size laptops now. The Asus Eee 904HA has 1gb of memory, 160gb HD, a 95% size keyboard, 8.9" screen, up to 7.5 hours of battery lifehttp://www.twtex.com/forums/images/smilies/eek2.gif , for the low, low price of 349 bux shipped from NewEgg. A 2gb stick of memory is only 25 bux, so I would upgrade that immediately. Any reason why this would not be a good deal? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220442 http://gadgetmix.com/index/?tag=asus-eee-904ha-review
  9. I took my 2007 RSV in to be inspected on Friday at a local gas station In Herndon Virginia. The inspector told me that the passing/driving lights and fog lights could only come on at low beam. Both the driving/passing lights on the light bar and the fog lights on the bottom of the forks have seperate switched. The driving/passing lights have a push button switch on the inside of the faring next to the power accessory plug and the fog lights have a switch that is attached to the gas tank. When I bought the bike from the dealer these were already installed by the PO. They inspected the bike with no problems. The inspector said he would let me go this time but does anyone know if this is true that they can only come on with the low beam?
  10. Does anyone have experience with the Tourmaster Synergy line of heated clothing? I have a Warm-n-Safe jacket liner and I am not totaly happy with it. I am seriously considering a Synergy jacket liner and gloves and I would like to hear from someone with first-hand experience. Once it gets into the low 30's my Warm-n-Safe jacket must be cranked up 100% and it puts a real load on the electrical system. I've read reviews that indicate the Synergy works fine on low or medium settings. Thanks, Dennis
  11. Looks like the first six days of November is going to be in the low 70's. It just doesn't get any better......
  12. First time poster.. New Member ... My low fuel light doesnt come on and my trip meter doesnt switch to R-Trip Ran out of fuel twice already trying to see if it will come on. Is there a sending unit? Is there a way to check the bulb or circuit? Help.... Sounds like a great idea, Though I can live without it if I have to.. 99 RSV
  13. I found this on another message board and thought i would share it with you all. Went to Daytona yesterday anxious to see the new Kawasaki Voyager 1700. Kawi had one bike to show and it seemed to be the center of attention. Kawasaki seemed to have done a pretty good job on the styling and the frame mounted fairing was nicely laid out, though I didn't much care for the 1969 Chevy Camero style analog gauges. Would have like something a little more high tech but hey, that's just me. As everyone was looking it over, one guy popped open the rear trunk and commented that it was plastic and not fiberglass. Thin plastic. Also, when I sat on it, I felt like the seat was pushing me into the gas tank. I had my brother with me and he agreed that it was a good looking bike. Still no price or delivery dates. While I went there with the intent that I wanted to buy one, after seeing the real thing, I changed my mind. The manufacturing quality of this bike can be summed up in one word - cheap. Even though assembly workmanship looked good, chrome was very low quality and most likely would pit or dull in a short time. The general quality of materials was low and had a very "made in China" look. The bike was never started while I was there, so can't comment much on the engine. My personal opinion is that while the Voyager is a great looking bike and most likely would pass as a low cost alternative to a Harley or Goldwing , I would still choose a Star Venture instead for one reason - build quality. __________________
  14. How often should the plugs be changed? The dealor told me today that he recomends changing them every 6 - 8 thousands miles. Seem low to me but I'm new to this bike. Any info is appreciated. David
  15. Looking at the ignition advance curves for the 1st Gen's in the service manual show high timing advance (15- 48.5 degrees) at low vacuum (1.57 in. Hg). And low advance (5-30 degrees) at high vacuum (9.84 in. Hg). This is opposite of cars. NORMALLY: High vacuum is low load on the engine therefore allowing more ignition advance. ie. cruising along Low vacuum is higher engine load therefore less timing advance is needed. ie. hard acceleration Can anyone explain this? Are the 2 curves mislabeled?
  16. Can anyone tell me where the signal pick up for the tachometer is on an 84 Venture Royale? I'm having "issues" with the engine missing and choking off when operating at low RPMs. It misses at higher speeds as well when I try to "jump on the throttle". The problem seems to coincide with an erratic tach indication at low RPMs. Thanks, Scott P.S. I replaced my Igniter Unit Assembly two weeks ago and everything was working great. Last weekend, while on a 200 mile ride it started acting up.
  17. Replaced headlight about three months ago, h4 bulb. Wed, low beam not working, but high beam and modulator working fine. Thought I'd burnt out the low beam filiment? Since I was gona split the fairing, I bought the Silver star bright bulb, put it in this morning and still no low beam????????????????????????????? Any ideas?
  18. I see where some venture rider are using a 30 amp relay when putting on passing lights. My question is where are they mounting this relay, And do they wire it to the low beam or always on? If adding another switch where did they mount it?
  19. In Gallup, NM. Headed to Grand Canyon tomorrow, then on to Los Angelos. Clutch started acting low on pressure. It is NOT slipping. But clutch lever is barely activating clutch. Catching just as soon as it leaves the grip. Fluid is full. I emptied the master cylinder and refilled with fresh DOT. Where is Slave and how do I get to it. What tools will I need, as I may have enough, but want to know before I open it up? Can I easily rebuild both cylinders myself if it comes down to it? Doubt I can find a dealer in LA who can do a 1 day turnaround. Any suggestions?
  20. This has had me stumpped for a while. Anyone have any ideas? I have a Kissan headlight modulator and typically ride with it on (brights on) during the daylight hours. With the brights on, I can see the headlight molation flashing ahead of me on the street signs in front of me - way high up on those signs. Additionally ..., the headlight modulation feature is not supposed to work in the dark. When I flip over to my low beam (if I happen to be riding at night), it seems to shed a decent flood of light out in front of me on the road, and I am happy with that adjustment. Of course, if I ride at night I will almost always just ride with my low beam on. However, sometimes when I want to reach-out a little further on up the road ahead of me (to light things up a bit more), when I flip-on the high beam it seems that it's aimed so high that it fails to throw any beam of light out on to the road ahead of me. Now, if I try and adjust the headlight with the adjustment mechanisms in the backside of the fairing in order to lower the high-beam, then the low-beam seems too low. Not that it seems like it should make any difference, but I also have a Silverstar Bulb for the headlight, and I have running lights hooked-up. So, I guess that my question is - How can I lower the high-beam without over-lowering my low-beam? Am I the only one who has noticed this before? Thanks! Pete.
  21. Crazy man the market is crazy. So what is a low mileage first gen 84 model worth? There is 3 answers to that question. 1. Book value would say around $1200 2. Market value ( what people are paying ) is something else. I watched one sell on Ebay last weekend for $3850.00 and bidders fought over it to the end. 3. Personal value. Maybe your scoot has been a faithful friend and it's current value to you is Priceless. No matter which category your thinking falls under one thing is for sure. There bringing twice the price of just a few years ago.:mo money:
  22. Well that was fun.. Running down our local curvey road late at night and having your head light low beam go out on ya.. oops.. All I could find in any documentation about replacing the bulb on this 2006 Midnight is "replace bulb with..." Thanks, I knew that (derrrr) but do I have to remove the fairing or is this simply down by taking the chrome ring from the front of the fairing to access the light bucket? Right now I'm riding with High Bean with the bucket aimed low but need to get this fixed soon. Thanks in advance..
  23. got a wobble at low speed with no hands on, speed up 40 no wobble Help.
  24. On previous bikes I've owned, I used to cause the low beam filament to be on all the time and just switch the high beam on and off for high or low beams. I would do this by getting into the headlight switch box and simply making a solder bridge across the low beam terminals. This would provide a whole lot more light out front, and was especially nice for night riding. I haven't done this on my current bike and I don't really know why not. I just haven't gotten a round tuit. I also don't do as much after dark riding as I used to. Has anyone else done this, or ever heard of it?
  25. OK, so I bought my 84 VR solely for the purpose of safing gas on my way to and from work. And so far, when compared to my Dodge Ram 1500 Quad-Cab 4x4 With the Hemi, it's doing what I need it to do. But I'm wondering if I'm running it at the proper RPM range to maximize on my mileage. I was reading in another thread that these engines seem to prefer the higher RPM's over lower RPM's. I've been running mine low so hopefully it'd burn less gas. Am I on track or do I need to keep the revs up?
