  1. There are some awesome flybys by jet aircraft at this site. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dr2ZB36p9Y]YouTube- Top 10 Low Pass Flyby's of All Time[/ame]
  2. i just put them up in the classifieds, 79 kz400 and 82 gs1100g. needs work, but selling for a low price. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2694/cat/9 thanks for looking!
  3. Well, closest to the very first remembrances: I was still in diapers, and had crawled into the kitchen while the folks were in the playroom. I was so low to the ground, I was fascinated by a line of ants running along the kitchen cabinet base, so I got real low, then somehow I got a taste of the ant poisen (real sweet), so I continued to lick it from the floor, until to my father's surprise! He yelled to my mom to call the doctor, and the doc said for them to feed me a raw egg with warm milk. After I threw that up, I remember getting swatted with a rolled up tv guide (the 5x7 variety) the back page had a cartoon on it. I was sent back to bed!!
  4. Went by the shop today to get a new front tire and while there i inquired about battery prices, I was planning on ordering one online for $85 but since the shop was going to charge me the same thing, why bother?! Here's the point, the battery I bought did not have a probe, However!!! the probe cap from the old battery fit on the new one so I now have a new juice box with probe. for whatever that is worth..... I should maybe fess up that I had not checked fluid levels on the old one :whistling:and two of the cells were about an inch low, two were at or just below the low mark and the remaining two (including the one with the sensor) were still OK. Kind of defeats the purpose, to have a sensor and it only reading one cell. Might explain why the battery seemed weak:doh: Bike still was hard to start when leaving the shop and the mech said it sounded like one of the carbs "just kicked in". he said it was interesting, maybe one of these days i can get to a MD and have someone with more sense give me an opinion:scratchchin:
  5. Got up early today and got on the bike and headed south. Rode just about all of middle southern Georgia today for a total of 394 miles. Cloudy, looked like I was gonna get wet several times but didn't. Kinda chilly though, upper 40's to low 50's. Great day!!!
  6. Any one have a set of front turn signals they are not using? Or know of a good place to buy generic bolt on ones that aren't to expensive? With a baby on the way my mods have to be on the low end of the price scale. The previous owner converted to very small leds and I'd like some brighter signals up front.
  7. After I put the battery back in yesterday I did a static Current draw test. It's pulling about 3.3 milliamps with everything off. Then I hooked it up, started it and did a voltage test. Seems like the thing is charging at 13.92 volts at high idle and 13.88 at low idle. This was before everything warmed up. Does this sound about right? I thought it sounded a little low but I believe that's what it's put out since I checked it when I put the new battery in it about a year and a half ago. I'm going to check the connectors on the regulator and clean if necessary but I just wanted to find out what others are getting. Thanks:sign20:
  8. This is probably a dumb question, but here goes anyway... Approx. 7k ago, I replaced my stock tires with Avons. Everything has gone okay until lately. They started making noise on the lean. So I checked them and I think they are cupping. I have kept 41ish pounds in them, per the service manual. I almost always ride two-up. Now tonight I hopped on it and it feels weird up to about 30 to 40mph. Almost sluggish with the turns, I thought I had a low tire, so I checked it again, this time with 2 different tire guages. They both read 40ish psi. What are the chances of these Avons needing a different tire pressure than the book says? I'd swear that the tire looks like it has been run quite a while with low pressure - which as I said above, I always keep at 40ish psi. craigr
  9. Hey Folks, Need a little help. In May of 2009 I put new Avons on my 2000 RSV (with about 17,500 miles on it and 4000 on the tires) and tightened the bearing for the front fork (bike had a low speed wobble problem). It has since developed an out of balance feeling in the front end that creates a "thump" at low speed that can be felt in the handle bars - kinda what you would feel on a "washboard" gravel road – but I’m not on one at the time. Had the front tire checked for balance and normal wear and it was OK. Have tried different tire and front fork air pressures with no change. At highway speed I can't feel anything. The weird thing is that some days it doesn't do it - or at least as much - maybe it is temperature sensitive? Didn't go to Vogel because I'm not sure what this is - kinda bummed about that. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,
  10. I'm looking at a 2006 RSV with low mileage (8,000 miles). The paint has many scratches. One big one on the tank but no dents. I looks like some kids were using it for a jungle gym. I can't see any signs to indicate that it was dropped, just not cared for. I'm going to take it for a test ride later this week. If it's mechanically sound I will make an offer on the bike (low offer). I'm new to the RSV so I need advice on what to look for to make a good evaluation. Thanks:mo money:
  11. I've gone through the partial burning headlight bit and resoldered the cirquit. I double checked that a couple of weeks ago when I re-did all the contacts in there. The computer module does not show an error! Having said that, I got caught in a downpour and stopped under an overpass, when i crancked the bike back up I had no dashlights or head light. Running lights, accesory lights and tail light all worked. I assumed a blown fuse so I replaced that at my destination. Turned the key to check they were working, got a flash like a blown bulb and nothing. Still had driving lights so I figured I'd run those on the way home. When it was time to leave I cranked the bike up, no low beam as expected; wondered about high beam and that came on, switched back to low beam and that came on! What gives?? Since then I've had both low and high beam, I've had no lights at all and I've had the dash warning light on with both the low and/or high beam crapping out part ways. A couple of times rocking the switch seems to have "fixed" it but not always. I've got an oversized fuse in the panel now and the poles seem to be getting pretty warm. Not real keen on pulling the computer again. Seems like a power drain/short somewhere but have no clue where to start or how to find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  12. anyone that may be intersted I found a 83 vr1200 plain gold on gold needs work ......seat..paint..left side or faring cracked ..lower farings broken..has radio.air ride..engine roled over not nuf to start batt low 300--400 would buy it i just needed headlight cover turn lens sorry i didnt have camera ill take one with me tommrow
  13. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with a 2006 Road Star? Just looking at one this weekend for sale, good price and low miles. Pros or Cons? Thanks in advance as I am sure I will receive an education. Semper Fi
  14. After installing the Kumho using about 110 PSI and ride around 3000 miles and towing a trailer about 2000 miles I have decided to go back to the M/C tire. Pros of the c/t... Longer wear.... Better braking... improved low speed handling... better acceleration Cons... After trying different PSI from as low as 30 and as high as 44 i find it unstable at speed... it wants to follow every groove in the pavement.... I get a wiggle at speeds over 75 running empty and its worse when towing. High speed corners feel strange... it tips over well... but I feel like it Waggles thru the corner. I really wanted the c/t to work. it cost 1/2 as much and last twice as long... its a no brainer. But I just can't get it to work for me. I have ordered a set of Shinko Touring tires ... Front and Rear tires delivered for $129.00. I will report back after they are installed. Thanks to all for your views and info on the C/T and if its working for you that AWESOME....It just wasn't for me.
  15. Hi Everyone, My 06 RSTD with 2,000 miles on it now has developed a noise which sounds like the fan is hitting the radiator. It's a metal sound like the fan hitting the radiator but I'm sure it's not. I hear so much about the chirp but this does not sound like a chirp and I only get it at a low rpm. 20 mph in second, 30 mph in third and 40 in 4th. It's only for about a 5 mph range that it does it. So like 3rd is the most noticeable and only from about 29 to 34 mph. Don't know if maybe it's the clutch basket hitting a little at the low rpm. It drives me CRAZY!!!!! Any thoughts???Thanks, Shortrider
  16. Yesterday I had to ride 5 miles of uphill, washbaorded, winding dirt road - wasn't fun at all. I took most of it at about 5-10 mph. Has anyone had any problems with their bike (mine is an 83 Venture) handling weird after riding on similar roads? It feels very weird at speed on pavement now - like I'm riding on a road filled with grooves that my bike wants to track. I wonder if something was bent or something. I guess something could have become loose. Or maybe my tire pressure is just low (which doesn't make sense why the dirt road would result in low tire pressure). Any ideas and/or experiences? Thanks, Doug
  17. OK I have the kit to add freon to auto A/C. Works on most. Got a Tarus I was trying to charge and they say you charge on high side on this one?? Anyway my adapter won't fit on port on high side and can't get low side to take anything. It is low on freon. I thought low side was sucking all the time and would pull it in. My kit will go on low side. Doesn't seem to fit as well as it should but I thought it should pull freon in. Adapter won't snap on as it should but I am holding it in place and trying to charge?? Just charged a Chevy with it??
  18. My present carb settings on my 84: 1. Back to white spacer under circle clip on needles, but my gas mileage has suffered. Low to mid 40's. Used to be high 40's, low 50's at 65 mph. (Once got 55 mpg at 55 mph!-retired and why rush home?) My Venture is used almost exclusively 2 up. (We're not light weight people) Checked plugs in early spring they were very white (lean). But never got any knock. Still white now but less white than before. Thinking of going back to a few thousands less than stock white spacer (.010-.020 less?) 2. Pilot AIR jet #2 under carb diaphram. Filled in with 24 hr JB weld and redrilled out with a #53 drill bit. Was a guess and worked. It does have minor throttle response improvement. 3. Pilot screws: 1.75 turns out 4. Carbs synched several times. 5. Used to have a bad hesitation just off idle accelerating, now completely gone, with above settings, starts in warm weather with no choke. 6. Original carb diaphrams coated with dielectric (silicone) grease. If done every year or 2 they will never get holes!!! Do this on any rubber. 7. 3 Friends with 1300's. All are in low 40's on mpg. Dropped needles about .030-.050" depending on their preferences. 8. Why haven't you done my carb needle spacer change out? Better MPG, more HP (hotter spark), reduced operating cost and a "greener" (less carbon footprint) machine?
  19. Hey all, I'm heading on a bike trip with some family members (our annual trip) and I'm trying to find some lodging near Manistique, MI. We're trying to keep the cost as low as we can. There will be 7 or 8 of us. Any input would be appreciated.
  20. When people have talked about the low end power on these 1200 motors, I felt like mine seemed to have more power (torque) than most. Mine at 25mph in 5th gear on flat ground would pull surprisingly strong compared to what other described about having to keep their bike above 3,000 rpm's. I also felt like at about 6,500 rpm's that the power was starting to taper off in that it was not pulling as hard. I know this bike pretty well as I have put 100,000 miles on it since I have had it for 13 years. I have patched the diaphragms a couple of times and it did seem to make it run a little better. With the new diaphragms, it is just opposite. Now, it feels a bit less torquey at low rpm's, but as I go over 3,000 rpm's in 1st gear at wide open throttle it now is almost scarey how quick it will pull to 8,000 rpm's. It now seems like just a few seconds in 1st and 2nd to 70 mph or more. I am wondering if I will get better gas mileage than before as I was getting from about 38 to 43, according to the road and my speeds. Now, if I am going to get anywhere near that good I am going to have to crank her down some as I am now catching myself looking for a place to crank it on. It's almost addictive how much pull it has as it is winding up and at 8,000 rpm's it is still pulling hard. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this change with new diaphragms? RandyA
  21. Just pulled two of the four carb sliders/diaphrams and each had three or four tiny pin holes and I suppose need replaced. My question is, I have a second set of carbs with unknown issues and want to ask if the entire diaphram assembly can be exchanged from one set of carbs to another? Looking at things and considering all things, I don't see why not. However, I don't consider myself an expert on things of this nature and just want to ask those that are. Second question is, I just had the Carbtune hooked up and all four carbs showed really low on the tubes. All seemed to be even but just way, way low. I tried turning the idle up but no improvement. What is this indicating and what must I do to raise them. I thought I know how to sync carbs but I guess I don't. Thanks
  22. Hi all, I've been offered a High Windscreen for £40 and a Low Windscreen for £25. What I want to know is did the Ventures come as standard with a option for High or Low windscreens? I really want to build the bike back up to as standard as possible so I'd like to get the original.
  23. For anyone thinking about buying. Here is a good opportunity on a couple of low mileage scoots in the Classifieds My misfortune someones gain. Thanks
  24. Ok time for a thread on How we are doing. What plan are you trying? Tips? Recipes? Ideas? etc. I will start out by saying I am going low-carb. I know that my body does not do well with alot of carbs. Hypothyroid will make it harder. Hopefully my meds are right or near right. I will be digging out my low carb recipes that I tryed when I lost the extra weight before. At least I kept most of the weight off that I lost 5 years ago(65lb). I only gained less than half back. Just think I work in a store full of junk food. So far so good I think. Only snacks I would allow myself this week at the store was pizza flavored pork rinds, beef sticks, protein bars. Good Luck everyone. Yes Cindy you seem to want the things you can't have. If you can do without for 2 weeks than you have a good start. But there are recipes out there that help when you really crave something. Check on the forums for the type plan you are using. I will be making my low carb pizza. No crust. Sugarfree cheesecakes etc. PM me if anyone needs those type recipes. Yes it can be done. We can lose this weight. I attacted a photo from around 2000 I was that big until 2003 when I decided NO MORE. My health is more important.
  25. Is there any difference between the carbs from an 83 and an 84? I've been wanting to rebuild my carbs on my 84 to try and get my mileage back into the high 30's and low 40's. Right now it's in the low to mid 30's. I have a set of carbs from an 83 that I started pulling apart the other day. They were pretty nasty looking inside the bowls. The floats looked pretty good and the diaphrams have holes in them. I'm gonna weight the floats in a few minutes to see how close they are to each other. I have a scale that goes 3 or 4 decimal places that should work good.
