  1. this week our employer had a new "team buillding" exercise. we divided into 5 groups to answer trivia questions... as we came to the end, my team was tied with one other for first place! the bonus question: "Where to women have the most curly hair?" I was first to ring the bell, called upon then shouted the answer! Anxiously awaited a positive response..... well -- apparently the correct answer was Africa... we lost..
  2. Popped a headlight fuse the other day and changed it out and things seemed ok This morning I was going to go for a ride and again it popped... Ok...looked for a wire that lost insulation and was none... Now I don't even get anything when I turn the key... Where's the main fuse????
  3. We need to get a forum going that keeps track of lost members, and Annie.
  4. OK I know Bubber wanted the pictures Debby took but I cant remeber if anyone else that was with us wanted a CD of them. Somehow I messed up and have some pictures from our Leakey TX meet on there so you will have to delete when you get the CD. EVERYONE PM me your addresses and name and Yes Bubber I lost your card..I should have given it to Debby.Anyway Ive got 6 CDS copied.
  5. My son(vegastruckee) set out on a 4,000 mi. road trip from Las Vegas a couple of days ago, on his 2nd gen 2002 VRS. Yesterday morning when he left Sacramento, Ca. he lost 5th gear. It was like he shifted to neutral. He called me at his next gas stop and I hit the forums. I made a couple of calls from the VR assistance list and Tim helped me find a place for truckee to get some help. I searched all over the forums for the problem and found some solutions by the time he made his next stop. I set him up with Justin at Pacific Motorsports in Eureka, Ca. They drained the oil and didn't find any fileings or gear parts in it, so truckee is continuing on. I think, from the way it sounds, he may have the old "pin" style gear change pawl, and the retainer clip has bent/broken and allowed the pin to partially dislodge. I will be going out to Vegas next month and ,if he completes his trip with no other issues, I will help him take the cover and clutch basket off and show him how smart I am. He expects to have to drop the motor and split it. I told him he shouldn't have any trouble in 4th if he watches his temp., fuel mileage, and keeps it under 75. His previous motorcycle was one of them Hiabussa's, so the last step might be hard for him.
  6. Back in '09 while trailering the bike up to Cody I lost my bifocal glasses. I didn't discover it until traveling thru Yellowstone. I pulled into a rest area to read a map of the park and couldn't find my readers.... I searched all over the inside of the truck and even drove all the way back to the West Gate to see if they'd fell out of the truck when I opened the door to take out my wallet for ID. No soap. The only other place I'd gotten out of the truck was at the Craters of the Moon in Idaho and I sure wasn't going to drive the 200+ miles back there to see if someone had turned them in to lost and found. So.... I went the whole week riding with my shades, but it was a PITA trying to read a menu or see after the sun went down. When I got back home I bought a new pair. Never totally liked them, but at least I could read a menu... This morning while trying to wire up the trailer on the '99 I went looking for a circut tester. I have a half dozen, but do you think I could find one anywhere? So I figured I must have one in the center consul of the truck. Went out, opened up the lid and started to dig around. My CC is as bad as my garage. You guessed it. Tucked down on the drivers side of the mess was my lost glasses. Searching from the drivers side I couldn't see them, but from the passenger side there they were. What's ironic about this whole thing is I lost them going to Cody, and found them while getting ready to go back to Cody. Go Figure!!!
  7. We have had a catastrophic computer failure and have lost all....I mean all our stuff. Please don't tell me what I know I should have done...sadly we didnt think it would happen to us and we didnt have a proper back up plan in effect. So those of you whom are interested in us having their email...please send us a note so we can collect names and addys for our mail box. Thanks Its a bad day as we lost thousands of pictures, programs to do with cadets..dang we are dummies!
  8. I lost my key at a routine rest stop this past weekend. I looked everywhere back tracking my steps but it just wasn't found. I couldn't believe I had lost it and we were 2 1/2 hours from home. Fortunately I had a spare hidden on the bike that had been there for a few years and never used. That saved our weekend. My lesson learned was that I will always have a spare key hidden on the bike and my in use key will be on a key chain. The rest of the story is that on our return trip we stopped at the rest stop and the lost key had been found and turned in. I'll never know how it got out of my pocket or who found it and turned it in but I learned a lesson. Bill
  9. This Thursday starts our 17 to 18 day cross country run on the RSTD (Tybee Island Lighthouse near Savannah, GA to Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco and back). Thanks so much to everyone who chimed in on my prep thread, I feel good about the state of the bike (and her riders). We have been talking about this trip for so long that it feels very strange that we launch this week. Eating better and working out I have lost 35 pounds prepping for the ride and my wife has lost almost 30, we have been riding in the heat and living without A/C because we know TX, AZ, NM have the potential to be brutal. (my daughter who is not going, cannot wait until we go out the door to crank down the temps). We have done back to back long days and worked on our navigation I picked up a SPOT messenger and will post a link once I set up the trip map in case anyone wants to follow along. We may see you along the road, we may see you at the DQ Either way we will wave and smile.
  10. Last July we buried my mother in law. About a week later, some old friends of ours lost their 14 year old son to a gun accident. He was a good kid, and had many friends. The funeral was huge. Fast forward to April 27th of this year, and we had roughly a dozen tornadoes touch down in our area in a single night, including two EF-4's. Everybody here knows someone that was affected. Chad and Edwienna, Logan's parents, and Billy Jack, a long time local tattoo artist, came up with the idea of a poker run to both memorialize Logan and benefit a family that lost everything in the Glade Spring, VA EF-4 tornado. They did it on short notice, only two weeks, and were able to get over 100 bikes to come out for the ride. At the end of the day they were able to present the benefit family with over $2000 in much needed cash. Everybody had a good time, and all bikes made the ride with both wheels down (except for one parking lot drop when a divot in the asphalt caught a front tire - no damage, though). http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00501.jpg (some of the bikes gathering at Billy Jack's Tattoos before the ride) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00507.jpg (Panoramic shot of the first stop. We lost 15 Patriot Guard riders here. They had to attend a brother's funeral) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00508.jpg (Second stop) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00511.jpg (Pic of the third stop at the local biker bar - this ended up being the longest stop... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00502.jpg (Just really liked this bike. Rider's son is disabled and in a wheel chair. He had a rack for the chair on the other side.) The wife has always been against motorcycles, and has always pretty much hated that I ride. I'm not sure how, but Edwienna talked her into making this run with us. We went out last week and picked out a helmet for her, and I took her for a short ride on Saturday to let her get a feel for it. Then she made the entire ride with me yesterday. She had a blast! She was amazed by the number of bikes, and really liked it when she realized that bikers make their own damn rules. She thought that it was awesome that we had road guards who would fall out and block traffic at intersections, and the looks on peoples faces when over 100 Harleys rode past. If you think one HD is loud, try 100+ in a line a half a mile long! http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00503.jpg (The wife waiting for the ride to begin. See her pretty pink-flamed helmet on the seat? She insists on calling it a "bucket.") I think she is hooked http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e330/rentalguy1/Logans%20Run%202011/DSC00512.jpg (Had to include a pic of my bike for good measure)

  12. When asked about the number of dependants, I replied between refuges, illigal aliens, healthy but lazy welfare recipients ( including the royal Familly), teenage moms, Automotive Manufactures and fat over paid politicians. I have totally lost count. Its no wonder we can't properly look after our elderly.
  13. An Obituary printed in the London Times Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: - Knowing when to come in out of the rain; - Why the early bird gets the worm; - Life isn't always fair; - and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights I Want It Now Someone Else Is To Blame I'm A Victim Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing?
  14. My friend was terribly overweight, so my doctor put him on this diet. He said, 'I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and then repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds.' When he returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost nearly 60lbs! 'Why, that's amazing!' the doctor said, 'Did you follow my instructions?' Yes he said...'I'll tell you though, I thought I was going to drop dead on the 3rd day on this diet." "From the hunger", asked the doctor. 'No, from the skippin'.

  17. Hi, Has anyone used one of these vacuum storage bags (or similar) for wintering a Venture? I have lost access to my usual winter storage, so am having to get creative. Thanks, Brian H.
  18. Ok, this is pretty much a story of cause and effect. Earl and Dano know what happend but now I think I can explain why it happend. About a week ago I had an electrical problem. Lost my charging system out on a ride. Voltage was dropping like a rock but I was able to get it back home before I lost power. (thank you DEKA AGM) When I got home I saw smoke coming out from the left side by the swing arm. Well, that is where the R/R is mounted. Tried to start the bike again in the garage and blew the main fuse. Long story short....tested the stator, a 2 year old Buckeye upgrade, looked for shorts in the wiring and found none. Replaced the main fuse and tested the system. Looked like everything else was fine. Pulled the R/R I installed about 3 years ago. It was an aftermarket unit, (not the upgrade Shindengen upgrade), and it pretty much started to fall apart as I removed it. As you can see from the pics it is more square and thicker than the OEM unit so I had to fab up a new mounting bracket to hold it in place. That was where I went wrong. I lost my main fuse because the R/R shorted to ground. On a three year old quality unit....why? Not supposed to happen. Looking at all the pieces now I'm pretty sure I know what happened. The new fabbed up mounting bracket left the new R/R hanging a bit lower than the OEM unit. I had room at the time and had no reason to be concerned about it. BUT.....about a year later I bought a new set of MAC pipes and installed them. Still had room for clearance on the R/R but it was closer to the MAC's than it was with the stock pipes. About 3/8 of an inch was all I had. And these things get warm all by themselves. Didn't need to add to that. SO.... when I pulled the R/R off I saw the bottom section of the rubber electronics potting was burned and brittle. Pieces came off in my hand as I removed it. That was the section that was closest to the pipes. You can see the damage in the pics. Heat ....pure and simple. I opend it up and the R/R is singed all the way through. So, in my opinion, I caused the failure by not making sure the unit had more distance away from the pipes. If anybody else has a better explaination I'm open to your thoughts. D'oh. Next time I'll have a better plan...... Just call me Sparky. Mike
  19. Just got a call about them finding a cell phone in the area of D-21 which is where we camped. If you lost one, call 828-686-3121 and it may be yours. RandyA
  20. I was working on when I somehow lost concentration and darn near lost my thumb. I finally finished construction today, decided not to finish it - it a lot easier to stain, seal and finish before putting the pieces together. It's all poplar wood, even the side and back panels. I re-saw 3/4" boards up to 8" wide to make the panels. I definitely NOT a fan of fiber board -
  21. Nope... this is not about Yamaha.. Many years ago I bought a set of tools from Canadian Tire. They have a line of tools called Mastercraft that come with a lifetime warranty similar to Sear's Craftsman. I particularly like this set because it came in a plastic case with places for all the pieces. (and I got it on sale at 1/2 price) So about 4 years ago I lost an adapter inside the fender of a car at a wreckers. I went to Canadian Tire and asked to purchase a replacement. They ordered it and a few days later called me to tell me it was in. When I went to get it they just handed it to me and said "have a nice day" --- no charge.. I was flabbergasted... This was NOT broken this was LOST.. no fault of theirs.. I was totally prepared to buy a new piece to fill the hole in the case. Anyhow I thought someone made a mistake but didn't argue. Fast forward to last week. At some point this case popped open in our old van (kids had borrowed the van) and 4 pieces went missing. Last week I was using the tools and was bugged by the empty places to wandered over to Canadian Tire to order those tools. Got a call on Friday that the parts were in. Went on Sunday to get them... They handed me a baggie with the four tools in it... "have a nice day" Now I expect them to replace a socket or ratchet that brakes.. After all it is a lifetime warranty. I DO NOT expect them to replace something I LOST.. but they did both times.. I'M IMPRESSED!!!
  22. This morning my buddy Bobby went down, a guy in a truck pull out in frount of him, he managed to dodge the truck but lost control of his Electra Glide and went down, right leg broken just below the knee and just above the ankle, both bones tibula and fibula. No other injuries, was taken to Tifton hospital and then transfered hughston medical, he did not want a rod in his leg but I think he going to have one. The part that really got us was the trooper said because there was no contact between the vehicles that there was no evidence that the guy( one of the othropedic surgeons who the trooper knows)pulling out in frount on him caused Bobby to crash, it appeared to him the Bobby just lost control and dropped his bike. The insurance companies could sort it out. He just was not going to right anyone at fault. A""hole. Gregg
