  1. Yep, I've put up with Taters for 26 years as of today...Don't know how I did it..loose screws and all. :rotf: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SWEETHEART .
  2. Taters is having another round of surgery on the wrist she broke 2 months ago...please remember her in your prayers tonight....we're hoping all goes well and this will be the last time she will need to go through this.....She insists that all the hardware installed earlier be removed....no more loose screws for her.....
  3. Could someone tell me How to adj. the throttle cable at the carb? to tight the throttle wont return & loose makes the cruise Vary alot.
  4. I have been reading about changing to a VMAX gear, just wondering is it worth it? Would like to have a little more acceleration but do not want to loose to much gas milage, is this possible?
  5. I have ridden the 04 to work the last two days here in Michigan. Great! I went to another place of business today and when I went to put my gloves in the saddle bag the hinge came off on one side. That made the lid real loose if ya no what I mean. I put it back down in place and latched it up. Got back to the shop and opened it up to take a look. Had to take the "material" part of the hinge off (4) screws to get to the inside. Sure enough the front screw was completely out and the rear one was real loose. I grabbed the loctite and put them back in. Opened up the other saddle bag and both screws were really loose also. Any way a 10 minute job and all is well. Just thought I would share so maybe you can take the time at home to check them out so it don't happen on the road. Have a great Easter weekend.
  6. I rode the new to me (used) RSV today and discovered the grips that the guy I bought the bike from are loose. I was riding along and the throttle grip started to turn on the plastic under piece throttle. I thought about using black Permatex silicone to glue on, but not sure that's the best answer. Does anyone else have suggestions?
  7. Trying to remove the front cowlings on my 2007 RSV. I want to check air cleaners and get access to the hidden horn. The button head bolts are removed, cowlings flop around, but I can't get them loose from that dastardly (spelling is correct) little fastener thingy in the middle underneath where the two cowlings meet. Makes me want to scream. Help please?!??!! Mel:Venture:
  8. Rode about 80 miles over to Newton, MS Saturday, to the Loose Caboose Festival. It is a huge (for such a small town) block party, car and motorcycle display and lots of craft vendors. As far as I could tell there was only one RSV in the crowd, mine.
  9. I haven't ridden my '98 RSTC for a while, so I thought I'd make the wife's requested grocery run on it. Since it has not been run in a while, I thought I'd idle it up a little while I put on my helmet and gloves. Well, the little silver idle adjustment thumb screw is nowhere to be found. Has any one else had this happen? Will it come loose and pop back under the tank? Seems like I remember it was hanging on a little wire bracket, but I don't see that either.
  10. Ok what is the trick here? The passing lamp and turn signal on the right side has worked loose and I can't seem to figure out how to tighten it. It seems like I need to screw the passing lamp into the turn signal shaft, but it hits the fairing. Do I have to remove the whole assembly? And if that's the case, then how did it work itself loose? Very strange unless I'm missing something really obvious.
  11. I lost my camera because the thumb screw came loose so I emailed the company and explained what happened and tried to get them to warranty it but they wouldn't because they said it was because the thumb screw came loose and that is not covered under the warranty. I kind of figured that but said hey it wouldn't hurt to try. They offered me a new camera for $84 and my pick of any accessory.
  12. One reason that the 1st gen Venture sometimes shifts hard or clunky is that the pins in the shift segment get loose over time. There is a stamped metal piece that hold the pins in place, and it doesn't take much for that piece to get bent and the pins don't fit tightly any more. Once the pins are loose and sloppy, the transmission will be a clunky shifter. If the metal tabs get bent enough that one or more of the pins fall out, the transmission can't be shifted past that point at all and you're stuck. Yamaha upgraded these parts to a one piece casting in the 2nd gen Venture. The one piece casting holds the pins solidly. The later parts are a direct swap into the earlier models, but Yamaha doesn't really acknowledge these as upgraded parts. If you ask for the parts for any year of a 1st gen bike, you're going to get the old style parts. You have to know enough to order the later parts or have the part numbers handy. Total parts cost is right around $50. Here are the part numbers needed: NOTE: Received this tip from Trader. When replacing old shift segment assembly from a 1st Gen. with the one piece shift segment from a 2nd gen, the old pins are too long and must be replaced with the part numbers shown. NOTE: save the shortest and smallest diameter "locator" pin from the old assembly to be reused (1) shift segment 4NK-18185-00-00 (5) long pins 93604-12037-00 (1) short pin 93604-16092-00 (1) clutch cover gasket 4NK-15462-00-00 These parts are in behind the clutch basket. I swapped these parts and did the PCW clutch kit at the same time. On my shift segment, the metal tab is badly bent and the pin was sloppy, and the two pins next to it are very loose. Even the other three pins were also a little loose. None of them were tight at all. The shift linkage can be wiggled up out of the way without having to remove the shift arm. These two projects took only a couple hours from start to finish and I was back on the road. Incidentally, this also applies to '96 and '97 Royal Stars and '98 and older VMXs. They use the exact same parts here and the same later upgraded parts bolt right in. For some reason, the VMX got these parts a year later than the Royal Star. All '98 and newer Royal Stars, '99 and newer Ventures, '05 and newer RSTDs, and '99 and newer VMXs already have these upgraded parts.
  13. I have a 2007 RSV. When I hit a certain bumps on the road I get a loud bang from inside the fairing. It is not all bumps just ones that seem to have a sharp drop to it. I have changed the air pessure in the front forks anywhere from 0 to 5 psi and it doesn't make a difference. I have removed the front fairing and cannot find anything loose or broken. I did notice that the headlight assembly is spring mounted and does make a little noise but I don't think this is the problem. Does any one else have this problem?
  14. hi all just to let ya'll know brad & lonna left my house around 6:00 am this morning. all i can say is they are planning to head east, for a while before heading north. the squid & sweetnothing are on the loose. it was good to have them stay with me. looking forward to their return. best reguards don c.
  15. Anyone who needs to back out of the rally from this point on please read this. T shirts and patches have been ordered and paid for at this point......so if you have to back out for some reason it would be appreciated if you would still keep your tshirts and patches and of course your raffle tickets. Dinner has not been paid for so that can still be refunded. We can recalculate your payments to reflect no dinner and send you a check for refund if your paypal / credit card payment is more than 60 days old. If your payment has been within 60 days i can refund via paypal, otherwise we will loose the paypal fees and loose more by refunding. It would be like like loosing the fees twice and you would loose fees by getting a payment. thanks!
  16. Apparently, I had a screw loose (in more ways than one, I'm sure), but this one was on my '07 Venture, and it's no longer loose, it's gone! Darn! I hate loosing parts. My probably with this one in particular, is that I can't locate it in Yamaha's exploded microfiche. The dealer can't find the part number either. We're both stumped. Let me try and explain where and what it is. There is a section of plastic (ABS) directly in front of the left floorboard. I always called it "Cowling", but perhaps that's not the correct term for that part. Anyway, directly in front of my left floorboard in that plastic piece, there is a place for a screw of some type. That's what's missing off my bike. The plastic piece now rattles a bit, and vibrates at speed. I would like to know a Yamaha Part number for that particular screw if possible. And, even more importantly . . . exactly what size and type of screw I would need to replace it correctly. Any assistance would certainly be appreciated. Thanks! Pete & Sandy
  17. Like by tomorrow a.m. The shop confirmed I got a loose baffle in my collector. haven't been able to ride it in three weeks and am getting antsy. So please tell me: Aside from the rattle, will I do further damage by riding with it loose? Can You remove a loose baffle without removing the collector? Can you eliminate the collector altogether? They still have it on the lift and if I let them know in the a.m. whether to tackle it, they might actually be able to get me back on the road before the weekend. Thanks a milion!
  18. Hello all. New to this site (but not to riding) and love it so far. Aquired a 2007 blue rsv with 7900 miles. Just broke in. Found the site and did a lot of reading. You guys and gals seem to help each other greatly. Got a few little ticks to get worked out on my bike and have already found most of the problem areas have already been discussed, such as bag bolts comming loose, CBERR, and stearing head bearing tightening. Very healpful. Thanks to all that have posted. I also ride a Honda VTX 1800c. Look forward to chating. Rex
  19. I split the aux in and Im trying to run my garmin 2720 & IPOD. When I turn on the gps I loose the left channel of the IPOD. Any solutions??
  20. I have that dreaded E1 error in the ride control system. When I open it up, then It goes away, I know it has to be a loose wire, but which one so I can fix it? Wilkie
  21. OK Folks, Now it's time to start with the donation amounts. We have our volunteers 21 folks that have taken the baton and will "Run" (pun intended) with our hopes of big weight loss. What we are going to do is have all you members donate towards the total combined weight that all the volunteers have decided to loose, this total is 567 lbs. This weight is what all of us are trying to loose, this also is all that we will ask you folks to honor as far as your donation amounts. If we loose more as a group, the donors will not have to pay above the 567 lbs if they do not wish to. If we end up loosing 700 lbs as a group, thats great and if folks want to donate for whatever the total is thats even better. There is a twist for us who are trying to loose the weight. If we dont meet the goal that we have set for ourselves we will have to pay $1 for every pound we miss our goal by. Kinda keeps us honest about loosing the weight The totals will be taken at Freebirds Maintenance Day on June 6th in Oberlin Ohio. So now it's time to present this to you folks, figure out what you believe that you would like to donate. Just to make it easy to figure out, 0.10 per pound will be $56.70 so you can figure it out what will work for you. As always Thank you to all you that donate and will help to champion this cause. St. Judes is a wonderful hospital and if you went and saw how much good is being done there, you wouldn't hesitate. I will be handling all of the donation amounts, so if your interested in donating PM me with the amount per pound and I'll keep track of all of it. Thank you to all our volunteers who have jumped on board and helped with this idea. Thank you to '93 Venture who thought of it....let the bidding begin Link to 1st thread http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30853
  22. I bought a part from kncklhd 1 in White Plains, Maryland. They lost it. Anyone had any dealings with this E-Bay member? How do you loose a 40 lb part before you ship it? Got my money back but really wanted part.
  23. So last time I was out riding as I went around a corner I heard that familiar sound of metal hitting ground. Kinda like dropping a wrench on concrete. I pulled over right away to check out my baby and didn't see anything odd or wrong with her. Rode the few miles to home and looked it over a little better but still didn't see anything. Skip forward to today and I jump on for a short ride and I can hear a a rattling noise coming from the back of the bike. So I jump off determined to locate this racket once and for all. Start with the trunk, nothing loose a broken. Move to the bags, nope still nothing. OK let's check safety chrome, yep there we go. The right saddlebag guard is the source. Apparently the end cap bolt came loose and I lost both the bolt and the little cap that connects to the crash bar(near passenger foot). So the question is, can I buy just that part or is it one of those all or nothing things? Or if anyone has one off a crashed bike and that rail is damaged and they don't need that little end cap I'd be happy to purchase it from them. Thanks in advance, I'll be outside doing a thorough nut check. Stop it you know what I mean!
  24. I picked up one of these a little while ago and though I'd let yall take a peek at the performance. They sell for about $200 with all the mounting equipment, although I built a custom RAM-Mount setup to make it a little more rigid yet non-permanent like . And I kinda like the wide angle lens, gives you a good view of the road. This was filmed using a reservoir mount and was on a quick jaunt to wally world. On a side note...from my experience, they have excellent customer service. My first camera had a rattle from the view finder being loose. Once I told them what it was doing, they informed me of the "glitch" and requested I send it back to them. Without question, they supplied me with a new camera that works like a champ (hence the video above). The manufacturer's site is here, for those interested...
  25. All you fellow dieters have been pretty quiet on how the diets are going..I think its time to check in on everyones progress..I, on the other hand, have surpassed my goal of 40 lbs. and have set a personal goal to loose another 20 or 25lbs by MD. Now all I have to do is remind myself of all those wonderful desserts I'll be able to sample at Dons.....
