  1. And it has me concerned. We went out for a day trip to Whistler, BC. Nice place if you've ever get the chance. Making a couple stops I noticed a wet spot after backing out of a parking spot. Not a little amount of clear liquid. I didn't examine it any more than to look at it from the back of the machine. But it looked like water. Kinda like when an air conditioner leaks under a car on hot days. It seems to have stopped now...but it has me worried! Should I be?
  2. Hello All, I have a 96 RS with 4/2/4 exhaust and looking for turnout mufflers. Have looked on the Web but cant find anything. Looking for ideas.
  3. After all the time that the venture has been on the road why hasn,t any one come up with a harness for trailer plug in before now.... I looked behind the seat and there isn,t much room to hook up new wires and the tail light has wires all over..there got to be something out there Whistler:bang head:
  4. Probably been posted before, but what the heck, I liked it! I am guessing it ain't to political for anybody but as long one reads it that OK. God Bless America and Canada and any other free nation that fights for it's freedom. If you don't know GOD, don't make stupid remarks!!!!!! A Canadian soldier was attending some college courses between duty tours. He had completed several missions in Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist, and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, GOD if you are real then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 min.' The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop.. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, 'Here I am GOD, I'm still waiting.' It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Soldier got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Soldier went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Soldier and asked, 'What in the world is the matter with you? 'Why did you do that?' The Soldier calmly replied, 'GOD was too busy today protecting Canada's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me.' The classroom erupted in cheers! BUBBER PS NEVER EVER PISS OFF the ONE that matter most!
  5. We went for lunch yesterday from Omaha, NE to Maryville, Mo. Somewhere just a little south of Glenwood, IA we past a bike that at a quick glance, looked like a YELLOW Venture. - Obviously repainted. But, it looked cool. It was going West on the Highway and I was going East so I didn't get a good clear look at it, but the wife and I both say it was a Venture. Then, just 10 minutes or so later I say another one, (I don't remember the color). Very seldom do we see another Venture on the road, but to see TWO of them that close to each other really caught our attention. Was either one of them any of you folks? craigr
  6. Coming thru Juaquin Texas today, I passed by an old run down building with an old black and yellow yamaha sign. So, I stopped and was amazed! In the window was what looked like a new 80 something yamaha 1100 midnite edition inline 4 with about a 1/8" of dust. in the front room of this old store, I saw atleast 15-20 motors from Decati's, yamaha's, indian's, etc. Some looked new, some used. I walked next door and man said I was the 3rd one today to ask bout the store. Unfortunately for me the owner was in Austin. The neighbor store said he had a ton of motorcycles, some still in the crate. He used to be a yamaha dealer back when. In short it was like looking thru a time window and from what I saw it was so cool. I plan on going back later this week or next and see if he'll give the tour and for those 1st generation guys I'll keep my eyes pealed. And I'll take a my camera:)
  7. Went to a junk auction last night and saw a viborator sander going thru. Thought it was good chance to grab something cheap and got it for 5 bucks. When I looked closer it is a "Newkita" Not exactly what I thought....Still will probally do me but..... Watch that name!!!
  8. My job last night had me getting out at 3am. At 2:30 I was outside smoking and it was clear as a bell. 3 O'clock rolled around and it looked like something out of a Stephen King Movie. It was so thick and heavy you could feel it when you were breathing. Many of the non-smoker were coughing over the moisture. Well, I had about an hour and half ride home ( with good conditions) but, I wasn't wanting to try it in the soup. So, I made a few phone calls and ended up going to one of the bartenders house. I had to ride there and it was about 7-10 miles. As I was riding I thought I could feel cold water running down my legs. I wasn't going to look down, I couldn't see anything more than 10 feet in front of me anyway. Tail lights on cars were less than useful and I knew nobody could see my little tail light. So I had the Hazards on. The water was sheeting off of the wind screen like it was drizzling. I tried to smoke one on the way... but my cigarette was too damp to burn. I drove about 30mph to get there and when I jumped off the bike, my pant legs from the knee down looked like I had been in a down pour. The fog in my head light as I sat there looked like snow suspend in midair. I have seen some nasty fog in the mountains in TN... But I ain't never seen it like this:think:
  9. Have not posted in a while, but again I am looking for another ride. Needless to say I went and looked at the new 2010 Voyager 1700 and let me tell you it does not even come close to what the RSV is. Sorry to say but that bike was built cheap. The one I looked at the fairing was not even mounted straight. I dont know how many other people have the same thought's but that is my 2 Cents. YOUR THOUGHT'S? Joe, star4772
  10. Any one put rk mufflers on the fist gen ? need some brackets or know how to make them. Looked on the site and could not find any, all that i found was on 2nd gen.
  11. Has my display turned green. Seems to me it was always a pale yellow or tan but last night It looked like its turned green. Anybody else seen this ?
  12. I have ALWAYS worked on my own bikes. But they were Harleys and I knew them from top to bottom, easy bikes to wrench on. I just bought my Royal Star and since I have my big trip coming up here in a couple of weeks, I decided to take it to the dealer for the 16,000 mile service, just this once... The reason I have always worked on my own bikes dates back to the first time I took my first Harley into the dealer for a simple oil change. I went to pick it up and low and behold, there was a scratch on the tank. When I brought it up to the service manager, I was told that it was there before before they began to work on it and was looked at like I was trying to pull a scam. Needless to say, I raised hell but still only ended up with a free detail and did not pay for the service. I was able to buff the scratch out when I got home but that set the precedent for me. Take bike to dealer=get screwed. Back to the story at hand though... I took my bike to the dealer and spent a good half hour talking to the service manager about the pride and care I take in my bike's appearance and that I expect to come back to ZERO scratches/dents when I pick it up. The service manager ASSURED me that he would take extremely good care of my bike, there was nothing to worry about. I dropped it off Saturday for the service and a new rear tire. Well, I swung by today as they are only a couple of miles from my office to see how it was coming along. When I arrived my bike was parked about 10" from the bike lift, which had a dirt bike on it at the time. The mechanic who was working on the dirt bike had to repeatedly walk from the lift to his tool box, each time literally squeezing past my front tire and fender, his jeans actually rubbing on the fender. I immediatley walked over and moved my bike back about 2 feet. The mechanic asked me who I was and told him I was the owner of this bike and that I was not comfortable at all with how close it was where he was working and walking. He looked at me like I was crazy. I then looked at my front fender and big surprise, there is a small scratch right smack on the front of it!! I got more than a little upset and asked him how this happened. He looked at me and shrugged. I asked to speak to the shop manager and all he did was walk to the phone and over the loudspeaker, asked for the shop manager to come to the shop, customer waiting. When he arrived, I showed him the scratch and told him this is exactly what I was talking about! He rubbed the area with his finger and said it felt smooth and that he didnt think the scratch was new. This is after we had already walked the bike on Saturday looking for scratches and dents. As we were discussing this, the mechanic had pulled the dirt bike off the lift and had pulled my bike on and was taking my hard painted bags off. The first thing he did was set the bag and lid on a metal counter, no towel or anything down! That was my breaking point. I went from talking to yelling instananeously! " That is EXACTLY the sh-t I'm talking about!!" and I stormed back there, grabbed the bag and lid and walked right back to service counter where the manager was standing, mouth agape. I grabbed a couple of shop rags that were on the counter and put the bag down on top of them, latched the lid and turned the bag over. Thank god there werent any scratches, but still! At this point my head was pounding so I took a couple of deep breaths and then slowly tried to explain that this is the reason I don't usually bring my bike in for anything, it's not his bike so why, other than pride in workmanship, would he care?? The service manager looked as confused as I've ever seen anyone look in my life. I asked him what his plan was because I'm not happy at all right now. He asked me what I would like him to do. I told hime I would be much more comfortable if he would personally oversee the sevice of my bike, which he agreed to do. He promised me that my bike would be done today. It's 2:15 right now so at 4:30 when I leave I'm gonna head back over. Do you guys think I'm being over the top here or does everyone value their stuff the way I do? Be honest!
  13. Went riding today and made a left when I heard a scraping noise. I looked down and it looked like the kick stand was not up all the way. Pulled over, had my daughter steady the bike, so I could check it out, when I grabed on to the part you put your foot on to lower the stand, it snapped off in my hand! In order to put the stand down, I have to have someone hold the bike, so I can reach under the bike and pull the stand down. A buddy of mine said he could weld it back on, but I am wondering if it will hold. Any idea where I can get a replacement at a reasonable price?
  14. Had Ford Ranger front flexable brake line rubber had deteriorated and swelled. Allowed pressure from master to caliper, but caliper would not fully release pressure back toward master keeping brakes partially applied. Looked at brake line. It had swelled completely closed. Looked like big O-ring with very small center hole. Got me thinking. If your O-ring between Reservior and master was plugged due to? (pinch, swell, dirt, master pistons doesn,t fully retract...) would cause simular problem. You can force fliud thru restriction with Mity-vac, but it will not gravity feed into master chamber. If you can confirm problem is with master, I suspect 1 of 3 things 1. trapped air 2. restriction as above 3. fluid blowby around master piston Just my thoughts Brian
  15. Snow, freezing rain turning into ice pellets it's -3C and more to come ...My spring riding is over
  16. yesterday while out on a ride with my dad brother in law and a friend a young lady felt the need to pass the car in front of her without checking for on coming traffic. with less than 30 yards between us she hit me dead center of my front tire launching me over her nissan maxima. i was going roughly 50 mph her closer to 60. i cant be sure but i would bet she was on her cell phone. i was takeenn by helicopter to the medical university of south carolina where i've had surgery on both my arms to fix breaks fractures an dislocations. other than my arms, there is not a scratch on me. the Lord was riding 2 up with me yesterday. my dad suffered a broken ankle and the loss of his treasured harley. my mom who was riding with him walked away with just a sprained knee. my brother in law has a broken wrist and minor internal bleeding. its not known yet if his honda cbr is totaled tho it more than likely is. my friend went down but was able to ride his bike for a check_up. my 2004 midnight rsv is a total loss. when i asked what it looked like my father in law said it looked like somebody had died on it. the only parts that i could get off it were the trailer hitch and gps. thank you very much for all the thoughts and prayers and hopefully ya'll will accept me in a cage at the meet in eats until i can get two wheels under me. the doctors are saying 6 weeks minimum until i have the use of my arms. God Bless everyone an stay safe out there. Ben (Gamecock)
  17. In Oct 2008my wife and I bought a 86' Venture and a small, color matched trailer to tow behind the bike. It was a package deal. We bought it from a guy in Long Island and at the time we lived in SC. The trailer has no title. This wasn't an issue in SC because there's no registering/titling trailers there. However, we've since moved to NV and here it needs to be registered. I've looked all over the thing and the only thing I could find is a Coleman stamp on the bottom of the fiberglass shell. I took it to the NV inspection and they looked and looked for a vin to no avail. They basically said there was nothing I could do without a vin or title. I've tried to contact the guy I bought it from but he is long gone and I'm certain that even if I could get a hold of him he wouldn't have anything. I got a form from the DMV about applying for a title if it's homemade but this thing totally does not look homemade. I've thought about dismantling it and building a wood frame to make it look homemade and then put it back together later but that seems ridiculous. I don't know what to do? Please help!
  18. I was watching the listing on eBay on the Markland highway floor boards up to the end. Alas.....the other guys threw money faster and farther than I did. So I'm still looking. The question is what opitions are there for a similar type of highway floor board? I have had pegs on the bars and didn't care for them. These looked like they would sit out pretty well and not interfer with the lower Baker wind wings I run. Any suggestions for a fit on my '84? Mike
  19. I plan to purchase the N43 trilogy helmet with a J&M headset. I have looked and looked but I can not find out what is the differance between there Elite (584) headset and the Performance (279).. except the price! Do you know? or is there a web site that does a side by side comparison/review. I welcome your inputs toward other headsets. The helmetshop.com has the helmet at $249, the elite headset for $209 and the Performance headset for $180.
  20. When I 1st got it, I could see icons for restaurants, gas stations, etc...on the map while I was driving. When I called Garmin on my issue, they had me to a hard reset so now all that is gone. Any ideas on how to get them back? Looked at the manual and doesn't seem to help. Thanks.
  21. First and foremost, I do hope some of my questions help other people. I have done a search here and looked over the Venture History and also even looked at the Yamaha Website (terrible website by the way)...and I am trying to find out more information about the Venture-S. Can anyone tell me ALL of the differences between the standard Venture and the Venture-S (besides the color). What features and/or chrome and if the only difference is chrome...what pieces are added for the additional cost. Thanks. (I think I will be a Venture owner VERY soon). Wally
  22. Does anyone recall a post about an old Venture Trike that was really chopped and a very swoopy design? I think it was Gold, Tan, or Champaign colored and there were some comments like "it should be the Jetsons". I've looked through everything I can think of here and searched for choppers and trikes, but come up empty. Thanks
  23. I am seriously considering buying a 2nd VR. This one is an 86 model that needs a bit of work, but has low mileage. One issue is the left side muffler. The owner told me that there is a problem which he suggested could be caused by a restriction such as a mouse nest. When I looked at the bike, the muffler was noticeably blue from overheating. Any thoughts on likely causes and related fixes?
  24. Blowing off steam.... On my recent group ride to Arkansas, I started popping fuses on my passing lamps. I'd just rewired them recently to use a relay and direct connection to the battery, so I reckoned that's where the trouble lay. Then, on the last day, I lost my Gremlin Bell. Those suckers were determined to cause mischief! Last weekend, I tore apart the headlamp housing and looked at the relay set up. I also took apart the left passing lamp housing to look at the switch--that had shorted out before. Nothing seemed wrong, and when I put it back together, the lamps worked. Maybe a crimp? Today I looked and sure enough the passing lamps were off. The Gremlins were back. I tore everything apart that I had touched during the install and looked for smoky residue. I put in fuse after fuse, letting it pop while I looked for sparks. Nothing! Finally, I took apart the right passing lamp housing, and the wire was stuck to the back of the lamp bulb. Burned. That's where the short was, in something I'd never touched and had never been apart. Ugh! It was frusty, but still a nice way to spend an afternoon off. Dave
