  1. Summer is coming fast. Pretty soon it will be hot and we'll need something to cool us down while riding. Check out this cooling shirt. This thing looks great. Then next winter, maybe the lines could even be plugged into a coolant line on the bike and you'd be toasty warm. Seems like someone on this board came up with this idea a couple years ago. I can't remember who though. (No, it wasn't me.)
  2. Just a thought Freebird. How about a forum where we can see top posts of the day or week. This would be for the time we are away from the VentureRider while on vacation or what ever. When we come back on line we can see what important issues we have missed.
  3. How is Everyone doing on their dieting? It seems things have quieted down. Drop a line or two and let us know how you're doing. . .
  4. groaaaaaan.....this is bad, but during a month that has felt nothing but cold, this will make you laugh! A curious fellow died one day and found himself waiting in the long line of judgment. As he stood there he noticed that some souls were allowed to march right through the pearly gates into Heaven. Others though, were led over to Satan who threw them into the burning pit. But every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire, Satan would toss a soul off to one side into a small pile. After watching Satan do this several times, the fellow's curiosity got the best of him. He strolled over and asked Satan what he was doing . "Excuse me, Prince of Darkness," he said: "I'm waiting in line for judgment, but I couldn't help wondering, why are you tossing those people aside instead of flinging them into the Fires of Hell with the others?" "Oh, those." Satan groaned: "They're all from Ontario ………… :rotfl::rotfl:
  5. I found that the fuel line that goes from the fuel pump to the carbs. was crushed by the clip that holds the line back by the fuel pump when I was changing out the fuel filter. I tried to trace where this line goes, and followed it up the frame and then it disappeared under the battery box (which I have removed) and could not find the end of it. I would like to replace this line but can't figure where the other end is. Has anyone replaced this line? What's the trick to getting to it short of removing the engine? Why do they make this so hard?!?! I would be greatful for Any help or thoughts on this subject! Earl
  6. I have an xxl clearview shield w/vent 2nd gen. for sale brand new in box. still has the clear film on it. first 175$ plus shipping takes it. John 630-202-9490 Long story but the bottom line is I dont need it. Have the yamaha x wide shield now and its staying right where it is.
  7. Anybody with a RSTD have the Protac drivers backrest? I picked one up used but just can't see how it connects to rear fender. Just won't line up. Does it go behind the chromepiece for the saddlebags? Pics would be helpful. God Bless. Mike
  8. How do I enter an image of the states I have traveled into my signature line?
  9. Just keeps comeing, and again today, and another Low Pressure area heading into the coast line.
  10. Well, you all know how technically inept I am....so I need your advice, again. I want to get Gary a GPS for xmas. Walmart has a Garmin 3.5 Nuvi 200 on sale at Walmart on Black Friday for $97.00. We don't need anything more than the basics so I thought this might be ok for us. Problem is I hate shopping and refuse to stand in line at 3 am. Checked on ebay and get get the same thing for around $112.00 which beats standing in line. The only thing is they all say "refurbished". Have any of you ever bought refurbished and would this be a mistake? Thanks again for all you help!!
  11. well i got a bug in the butt today and was cleaning my shop up and got to thinking. i really miss building stuff and metal fabricating. got the machinery and tools to do most anything mechanical just sitting idle. so i thought why not start manufacturing motorcycle related tools and accessories on a small scale. all i would have to do is up grade my milling machine to cnc., and i could kick butt and work at home. going to sort this out in my mind. my first product will be an affordable top of the line wheel balancer. i have connections with alot master machinists and work for very good friend who has a multi million dollar shop, so the sky's the limit on what i can get done. my wife says i'm to old to start a business, but it may be worth a try. bill ps. any one in the market for a top of the line wheel balancer.
  12. The other day I took a nice ride. Came upon a cross road behind two cars. Both of them with left hand turn signals on and over to the center line. Pretty good indication of a left hand turn, right? No, wrong. That meant right hand turn. I went to go around on the right hand side - suddenly the back car begins to turn right. Relying on my lightening fast reflexes, and the legendary crotch rocket like acceleration of a 1st gen, I did a light twist with my right wrist and presto, zoomed out of the danger zone. Moral of the story - stick to your own safety rules. I have preached it over and over. Just because a left hand signal is on doesn't mean a thing. Even if the car is stopped, wheels turned left, car nearly over the center line waiting to turn left - depend on it. They will turn right.
  13. We are off to vote. Expecting 2 hours at minimum in line even at this time of day.
  14. Last fall, someone here mentioned connecting some tubing into the coolant circuit of the engine and running it through your jacket for heat. It was said as a joke, but the idea was that it was free heat and didn't load down our low output stator. The nuisance would be to connect and disconnect yourself from a water line all the time. But what about running a water line through the seats? Laugh if you want, but this is halfway feasible, isn't it? The seats are removed only seldom. Maybe the lines could even be long enough that the seat could be removed and set down next to the bike without disconnecting lines, or maybe not. Maybe use some quick disconnect fittings, like those used in high pressure air lines. Put a valve in the line to shut the heat off during the summer. I suppose grooves would have to be cut in the seat foam to make room for the lines. Then maybe put a thin piece of foam over top of it all. Go ahead and laugh, but why wouldn't this work? Who's going to be the first to try one? Hey, someone has to think of something first and get laughed at. People laughed at Alexander Graham Bell right over the telephone. So said Barney Fife, anyway.
  15. I finished a tear down to frame motor, wiring and reassembly of an 87 VR I bought on ebay. The bike is on the road, looks and rides great :12101:but........ I was floored by the poor fuel milage. When I reassembled the bike I replaced the boost sensor as it was fubar. I found somewhere along the line a line restrictor was put on the vac line to the sensor.I put it back in at the same time as the swap. Had never seen one on other VRs though. Fuel mileage was about 20 mpg:confused07:. Thinking about the work done, couldn't find an issue. Pulled off the line restrictor and now am about 43mpg with better power curve. Why the radical change in mileage and performance with it out ? Can't find restrictor in any parts listings so, for now it's in the box of parts I don't figure need to be there:soapbox:
  16. Now, about this valve cover gasket being a snap to change out on my '85, the only thing that snapped was my brain. I was very pleased to see how easy it was to lift the cover, but not so happy in finding out that it would not slide out over the cam chain. About 1/4" more clearance and I would have crossed the finish line. Not to mention that I almost damaged the old gasket in the process. Am I cursed, or what?
  17. 2nd gen.........dot 3? 4? 5? I'm stuck in NC ......I over heated the rear brake while going down hills /w trailer. They came back after the line cooled down. Their is plenty of pad (both sides) but I want to add a little to the resivoir!!! don't want to mismatch!!!!
  18. will the frontfroks off an 89 vr fit on an 84 vr i mean the intire front end will the brake line match up----thanks for all your help---dae
  19. Ok, can you guess why I have a short red line welt across my face the other day? geesus.. pulled the cover off the bike and wondered what that bright glint of metal was swishing up towards me as the cover let go of the overly bent antenna.. WHAP right up into the face.. When my eyes stopped watering and I picked myself off the ground, I looked around to make sure no one saw me.. Red faced and feeling foolish.. I forgot I had antennas and stowed for the covering of the bike. fun.. embarrassing but funny.. had to share.. (my purpose in life is to make people laugh, hopefully not with too much pain)
  20. When I was taking my fuel tank off to replace my ignition switch I think I broke the outlet off of my fuel petcock valve. I had loosened and pulled the clamp back on the fuel line but then the line didn’t want to come off. I tugged and tugged and twisted and tugged some more until POP off it came. That’s the good news. The bad news is - stuck in the end of the hose was the brass connector. Since I am a relative yamaha newby I am supposing that I pulled the connector sleeve right out of the petcock. It probably isn’t supposed to do this - am I right? Is it broken? I just ordered a replacement petcock but I can cancel it if somebody will tell me that this is the way the Yamaha petcock disconnects from the fuel line! Thanks
  21. okay group i want to add another person to our committee. first i will tell you the pay stinks and it will be a voluntary thing. i need some one to put all the videos and pictures together that people take and donate to the cause on a dvd to music and edit them with some professionalism so we can make them available to the members that want to savor the memories of the meet. if you are artistic and good in this field let me know. i know alot of folks will be taking videos, and pictures. your cost to make the dvd's will be covered. when the members order them. do i have any volunteers? remember they have to be top of the line and the music has to fit the video. i know i'm being awful picky but. if you are familiar with the ones floyd made of previous meets you would understand why they need to be good. his were top of the line. bill
  22. To all our non-USA members (maybe non-North American members), PLEASE learn our driving rules before you come here to tour on your bikes. Solid yellow line means do not pass. Dashed yellow line (on 2 lane road) means you can pass if there is NO oncoming traffic. While on hwy 20 today in Middlebury, IN, we saw 3 bikes with European plates. Five people total. They had been parked in town looking at a map. We watched as these 3 bikes weaved in and out, passing cars and trucks, in both passing and no passing zones. Cars, trucks and even a motorhome was off the shoulder, almost in the ditch to avoid hitting these bikes. I'm just glad I did not have to witness a crash.

    need help leaking forks

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to fix a leaking anti-dive valve. I have replaced the orings and still leaks, coming from the weep hole on back side of unit LOWER HALF not the piece where brake line connects, just below that. the manual claims no disassembly must replace. NONE ON EBAY. can anyone help?
  24. I know I had seen something out here a while ago about this, but couldn't find it. Anyways, the brass outlet tube was weeping a bit and it popped out when I pulled the fuel line off. I understand that it is a pressure fit, ok to tap it back in as is? Use a little sealant? Or replace the whole thing? Thoughts or experiences, thanks.
  25. Yesterday I hit the back roads heading north in Michigan, 2 up and traveled every type of road you'd expect to find here...including wash board dirt/gravel/sand roads...just under 600 miles in about 15 hours. I am happy to report that by using a CT, specifically, a BF Goodrich T/A Radial...I had a great day of riding... We hit some rain, and I am talking intense rain, where I could only see the white line a few feet ahead of me, and the tire performed flawlessly... The sun was beating down on the road bed, at about 91-95 degrees, except for the periods of rain and when riding along the shore line of Lake Huron, and Lake Michigan, where the temps dropped nearly 20 degrees. The tire didn't seem to mind the continuously changing environments in the least.... I am more convinced than ever, considering my ride style, and penchant for long distance riding...that I'll never go back to a MT and it's limited cornering abilities and low mileage lifetime.... I had been concerned about how the tire would handle at speeds above 70-80mph, which is where I usually cruise. I came up on a group of three vehicles, that were doing maybe 45mph, and as soon as I had a shot, I passed them, I hit a smidgen over 100 as I cleared the group and eased back into my lane... I was totally freakin out, but to my utter relief and great satisfaction, the tire did it's job and never even blinked.... The center line on most of the secondary roads in northern Michigan have warning slots cut across it , to alert drivers that they are wandering into oncoming traffic, I was a little worried at first the tire would react violently when it crossed them at 100 mph, but it didn't complain...not once. I had similar results on the rain grooves too...the tire tracked as well if not much better than any MT I have used.... I would have to do some cipherin' to be sure, but I am guessing I have around 3000 miles on it now...maybe a little over, the tire shows no wear and is still pegged at 34.5psi. I feel compelled to include this disclaimer: "Warning : The use of a CT on your motorcycle may cause you to buy more chrome for your motorcycle, with the money saved on tires.":cool10:
