1. Hey folks... I want to get a reasonably sized tank bag with map window in it... Most of the ones I've found on line look HUGE. Anyone out there use one that they would recommend, and have pictures of it?? Thanks in advance!
2. Anybody know the approximate 0-60 time for a stock RSV? I just want to know when I'm sitting at the line and need to get in front of somebody, what cars might be tough to beat.
3. AND I WASN'T EVEN RIDING IT !! I cop out of Bongobos fall foliage ride because I had a steep roof to reshingle. To get a rope over the roof I used my fishing rod and cast over the roof from the back. I then tied the line to the rope to pull it over. I am almost over the top when the large rope snags and I snap my fishing line. So, while I am in the back yard tying a new weight to the line to cast over, my neighbour decides to put the ladder up then carry the rope up over the ridge (like I said it is a steep roof) as he try's to walk up the roof he slips. From the back yard I hear a loud crash and relizing suddenly what my crazy neighbour attempted to do I run around to the front expecting to see broken bone's all over my front lawn. As I come through the gate the first thing I see is the ladder laying across my motorcycle, then the eave trough ripped off the house and lastly my neighbour on the ground getting back up on his feet. Don't ask me how it was possible but he did not have a single mark on him, nor was he hurt in any way ( Thank God for that ). My bike on the other hand has another nice scrape on my new paint job and the seat has a six inch cut across it. The main thing of course is that (1) He did not get hurt and (2) I did not have to give mouth to mouth to that sruffy old face of his. By the way its a brown seat for an 89 VR just in case there Is one floating around looking for a new home:big-grin-emoticon:
4. Folks, I think that Eileen and I are going to try to take an Alaskan Cruise in July or August of 2010. We have a lady here who sells cruises and she asked me a year or so ago if I thought there was any interest within the club of a group package. I just thought I would throw it out here and see. Also, anybody who has done the inland passage Alaskan cruise and wants to share their opinion of the best cruise line to use and etc., it would be appreciated. I am thinking that we will depart from Seattle and do a 7 night cruise. I've looked at ads from Norwegian, Celebrity, Carnival and Princess at this time.
5. i got my brakes delinked yesterday . i should have got the line that gos from the bango up to the master cly. from you , the one from the Vmax is too short . i got to say " you the man " , with the rear brake line and front adapter sure made the job easier :clap2: Thom
6. My dutter is sick...very sick....got a virus..I will stay on as long as I can tonight, but the dutter is going in to see the geeks tomorrow...will be offline for a few days...for those of you who are waiting on their fleece jackets...I will have to call you by land line when they arrive and when they are being shipped...for anyone who needs to place an order , you also will have to use a land line..Its gonna get boring around here for a while.. I will have to get my fill of you guys tonight and cause as much chaos as I can....:rasberry:
7. I found a 2003 yamaha roadstar windshield in the local want ads, but would have to drive about 110 miles to pick it up, so I thought I would ask everyone in here first. Does anyone know if it will fit my 97 Royal Star Tour Deluxe? I have the four mounting bolts and lowers. WIll these holes line up properly? I also need a backrest, so if anyone knows where to get an inexpensive version, please let me know. Thanks for any assistance and insights. Robert
8. I know I have not been a member here as long as some folks, but I have been reading many of the tech threads and I get a charge out of the good natured bantering that goes on here, but I have a question tht has been bothering me as of late. What I would like to know, Don, with all you do to run the site, work, take care of your health, familly and household, (not to mention keeping the inmate in this asylum in line), how do you find time to RIDE? I don't have a third on my plate as you do and I have only been able to put on about 2000 miles this year. Just wanted to put out a heart-felt thank you and keep up the good work! Dave
9. I have a line on a CB for the 1st gen in pretty good shape but it looks to be about 5" deep where my 86 uses one that's only about 3"... anybody know the year this one would fit?

09 Venture

I finally made a deal on a 09 venture raven and red, man she is purty too.. 2 questions 1) Is this a 2nd generation or 3rd. 2) Is there a repair manual on line, I have the owners manual.. Oh yea I'm one happy camper tonight...Might sleep on it...LOL Thanks Scary
11. I Need the air line that comes off the solenoid for the rear shock, The part that I need starts with the banjo bolt and goes to the coupler at the right side under the seat it's about 8" Long. Or I need a way to splice mine back together. Thanks
12. What wireing will in need to patch my intercom headset to the Zumo. I have looked at some units on line but i'm not sure whats what.
13. If you need high quality low cost precription glasses go to Zenni Optical. My family has been purchasing from them for several years. Note: Eye exams do not usually include PD. PD is measurement of distance between center of your pupils. Zenni website is excellent. I use no line bi-focal and pay approx: $75.00 so getting prescription sun glasses are a bargain. Low cost cigs. I use 2 places for many years. NO SALES TAX and both pay the FED TAX so no need to worry an audit. USA MADE CIGS Pueblo, NM. and Cigarette Express in NY. DO NOT ORDER ON LINE after setting up account which is an approval to debit checking call and place order. States are starting to tax internet ordered sales. Hope this will help others to save big $$$$. perch
14. Will try my best to describe so you get a good picture in your mind... Last eve was on the way home at Sun Set and Peak Deer time. I had my XXL Clearview Windshield and my Clear Safety Glasses and my visor was full up. Had Mimi on the back too. North West Michigan rural Highway M-37. I was scanning left and right 10 to 12 seconds (Max headlight range) like a mad man. Seen 5 deer next too road (3 did not move, 1 went back to woods and 1 crossed 10 to 12 seconds in front). Then climbing a large and long hill I was 10 seconds behind a Toyota ForeRunner he was using High Beams and I was in the left 1/3 of my lane (near the yellow line) using Low Beam. Me and the Forerunner had been like this for the last 15 or 20 miles (best for the situation). Mimi and I have a "Deer Spotting Contest" DEER Right, Deer or Left Deer Front commands through our intercom. OK back to the large and long hill. There is a campground at bottom of hill on leftside and over the hill about 2 miles is a Party Store / Gas Station. Just as we got to the top of the hill I say "Deer Left" in the next 1 to 3 seconds I realize there are 4 "DEER EYES" bobbing up and down.... Wrong... I then recognize them 'bobbing deer eyes" as Bicycle Pedal Reflectors from two bicycles. They were on the farthest left shoulder of the road going head on to on coming traffic (good), but then I see them weaving badly into the oncoming lane maybe 1/3 into that lane. Remembering when I was a kid peddling to the top of a big and long hill I was tired, out of breath and wobbly too... OK so far recognized and analyzed the situation at hand... Then headlights started from the other side of the hill (Thinking to myself they better get that wobbling under control soon).... Just as the Toyota Forerunner in front of me passed them one of the kids decided he was going to avoid the oncoming car in his lane by cutting across the street (now 5 to 6 seconds out)!!! I PRESSED Hard Right to get too the White Line and the kid is still coming across his front tire is now at the double yellow line. By time I get TUNNEL VISION and ON THE WHITE LINE and steady I started emergency braking procedure (My arms strained as me and now Mimi full weight was upon the handle bars). Realizing I was fully upright and not skidding when I was braking and under control I then forceably broke eye contact with white line to see where the Bicycle was now? In the corner of my left eye I see his Back Tire breaking the reflective double yellow lines and briefly seen his handle bars cranked hard left about 18 to 24" off my left handle bar!!! WE MADE IT. 1. Thank God 2. Thanks to my MSF.Org Training Classes (Basic and Advanced 2008). 3. Lucky
15. Alan has put braided brake lines on my RSV, there is no air in the line, but still no brakes!! Question from him: is the factory fitted master cylinder okay with braided lines??
16. Just a warning, I tend to get wordy and detailed when it comes to this. So this might be long. I live in Indiana and have Verizon home service. We have 2 phone lines. My wifes work required it at the time and they paid for both. Her work recently said we only require one line and we will only pay for one line. We will use Line A for the primary (home) line and Line B for the secondary (work related) line. We thought great, we will drop the line A. So we called and it was confirmed at the end of May line A was disconnected. Line A was connected to 2 phones and 2 satallites. Line B was connected to just the work phone. Well we didn't thoroughly think it through as Line A is also connected to the satallite dishes which if not connected to a phone line charges us $10 (we have 2 receivers). What we were trying to accomplish at this point is reconnect Line A and then disconnect Line B. So we called back a few days later (this would be around the beginning of June). We were told it would be back on at midnight by the next day. Check the phone line, nothing. Ok, we will give it another day just in case. Checked the next day, nothing. Called Verizon and was told it would be on by midnight. Checked the next morning and nothing. In the mean time we are getting letters saying the phone line was connected. We are also getting voicemails asking for us to call them back to confirm we wanted the line connected. We have an order # and a confirmation #. Some people could not find the confirmation # or if they find it, they can't see any notes in regards to it. The same thing would happen when I gave them the order #. We would litterally call back everyday and sometimes at least twice in the same day. Everytime me or my wife would call in we would get different answers, sometimes different promises and promises broken. Sometimes a rep would read back to me the notes in their system (big mistake). Well they have recorded conversations that actually contradicts their notes and I asked on several occasions to have those recordings pulled (and of course they haven't been). They will tell you that phone calls are randomly recorded. This isn't true. I work in customer service. They are all recorded. Some get randomly pulled for quality review. A company isn't going to have some calls recorded. Just think if something were to go to court.... Company so and so, customer has all the documentation. Where is your documentation. Well the conversation didn't get recorded....That ain't gonna happen. A rep told me they would credit us for one day. ONE DAY. I don't think so. At that point we had been dealing with this issue for at least a week now. We do not have inside wire maintenance agreement which means if they do any work related to the wiring inside the house, they will charge $90 every 30 minutes. We were told by at least one rep (under recorded call) that any/all charges for repairs under line A and B would be waived. The connection fee would also be waived (found out later the rep noted for a $25 credit). Talked to another rep and they say Line A-no charges, Line B-charges unless if messing with Line A causes Line B to go out. After countless reps and supervisors in multiple depts....I would talk to a repair dept. rep who would say they have no authority to waive charges. Ok who does....so she sent me to her supervisor who also said they can't waive the charges. Then why did your rep say you could? supervisor said, billing dept can. Ok get me over there. billing dept is saying they have no authority to waive charges. WTF..... The problem with the line A after it they said it was reconnected was no dial tone and if you call into it, it would ring busy. This tells me whatever button they pushed at the office to reconnect it, they did not do it correctly as there was nothing wrong with the phones before we disconnected it. So after 2-3 weeks we finally got a tech out on Wednesday. He got it to where if you call, it would ring, but if you were to pick up the handset, no dial tone. He told my wife that he was going to mark his work order as completed and then for us to call Verizon to get inside wire maintenance and then tell them the phone line isn't working so it would be fixed for free. Some people can do that. We can't. Wife called Verizon back said it still is not working and she has to have a working line since uses it for work. The guy had left and I told my wife to check line B just in case. Sure enough it doesn't work which tells me the tech just switched the lines. Now at this point we have 2 non working lines. Another tech came out that day, confirmed the 1st tech did switch the lines. This tech fixed it to where we now have phone service on Line A on 3 phones (the jack for Line B actually has 2 ports so you can plug into Line A or B) but no satellite so it is partially fixed. He also gave us his supervisors phone # to call and talk about the wiring issues and related charges. This tech also said there is some bad wiring in the cat 5 wire. Whatever that means. Since that is inside the walls, we would have to charge you for it if we repair it, but no charges for what he did. A 3rd tech came out yesterday and said we came because we heard of the issues (sounds like they were just trying to help out). My wife said no because we don't agree to the charges (and were told by cust. reps there would not be any) So yesterday I called the tech supervisor. I don't know who this Jackhole think he is, but he was extremely rude. I do not take that so I gave it back. I have a call into his supervisor (who is supposed to call me back on Monday) because I will not tolerate anyone talking to me they way this guy did. I started talking to him about the situation. After only a couple minutes he said let me interuppt. He said he is familiar with the situation and he wanted for me to understand that they would charge for the repairs for any inside wiring. So I started asking questions since he was familiar with it. He said I don't know I have 125,000 customers. I asked if he thought (asking for his opinion) if the satellite company did the wiring. He said I don't know who wired the house. I didn't ask whether you knew or not, I asked if you thought the satellite company could be responsible for the supposedly bad wire. I do not believe it has anything to do with the wiring. The connections were just fine before they disconnected line A. He said what do you want me to do, go back to the office and look everything up. He said No I am not going to do that as he was at home. Well you said you were familiar with the situation. Either you are or you aren't. Which one is it? He reiterated again (very sternly) that anything related to the wiring they were going to charge us for it. I said they why when I call into Verizon they are telling me differently. He said, I don't know you probably just talked to some cust. service rep. I don't care if I talk to Obama. It is legally documented recordings. It if was said you are libel to do it. So at this point we are both hot. He said I told you I will personally be out tomorrow (better not be there when I am at home). I told him I didn't hear you say you would be at my house tomorrow. He said did you hear me this time. He also said did you hear me when I told you, you will be charged for fixing the wiring. I asked then why did someone come out to our house that day. He said I don't know, no one told me about it. I asked why is someone coming out on the 29th. I don't know....what do you want me to do about it. I have 125,000 customers. After a couple more minutes of this I finally said go ahead and come out. If there is anything that needs to be fixed related to the wiring then we will take it to the next step. He said consider it done. I was hot, very, very hot. I went out to mow the lawn to try and calm down. I couldn't do it. So I picked up the phone. The 1st person I spoke with at the Verizon office, I said I need to talk to the repair dept. No questions asked and got transferred. Next person. I don't want to talk to a supervisor. I want to talk to someone above the supervisor. Got the highest level management that I could (whatever level that was). I started going off that NO ONE EVER TALKS TO ME THAT WAY!!!!!. I explained the whole situation and what this Jacka$$ supervisor said. She agreed that they are professionals and he should not have acted that way. So I said she would contact his supervisor and he would call me today. I got a call today from that supervisors office stating he is out of the office and would call me on Monday. So the long and still never ending saga is still going on.
17. I found on ebay a set of Yamaha lights, bought them and installed them w/o doing my homework. First - didn't know I should leave the switch in line Second - didn't know I should have put a relay in line Third - and most importantly, I didn't know what the hell I was doing Now, 3 days later, they are switched, they are fed with a 30 amp lighting relay and most importantly the GREEN wire going to the turn signals IS NOT a system GROUND. All it does is make the driving lights and turn signal alternate flashing. That may not be a bad thing but I opted to fix it. After having the front off the bike 3 times in as many days, I'm afriad to walk by with an allen wrench in my for fear one of the front pieces will just automatically fall off. All in all it was a VERY learning experience - Thank you guys for the help and instruction :clap2:
18. Hi all. I am new here so if this is in the wrong area sorry. My wife and I are looking for a nice long distance tourer and the Venture is out front in our search. After reading some of the info on this site I have a few questions. If this is all posted somewhere please excuse me for asking. 1- How many have the loud wine from the drive line? 2- How often is the drive line maintenance done? (grease the pins and remove the rear wheel and what ever else) 3- Are there any other issues with this bike that need to be addressed as soon as the bike is picked up from the dealer? 4- How are the bikes for general overall maintenance? I ask these because my last bikes had there share of problems from the dealer. I do most of my own maintenance and enjoy it but I really am looking for a low maintenance machine we can just enjoy. I should add that we are looking at either a new 09 or a new 08 Venture. Thanks for any info and thoughts.
19. In reading up on rear brake bleeding, I found this excellent tech library article: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=490 I have course have no such modification on my '84 bikes but I was wondering if there is a fittng that could be undone to get the bulk of the air out of the high spot on the rear system line to the front line? Thanks, Brian H.
20. Finally tried starting around 6 PM and no spark. Did a little troubleshooting and found no ground to the ignition module. Something must have gotten lost in the translation, so I added a ground to he line, and it started, but running very rough. Checked coil wires on right side, and looked OK but in reality they were switched. It would have seemed that the long plug would have gone tlo the short coil line, and vice versa, but Noooooo!! Switched them and it fired right up and ran great!! Wife came home, so I started it for her, and it ran a few seconds and died!! No spark again! Sooo, to make a long story short, I have 2 spare modules, one for an '83 and one for later models. Well, the one for the newer models ran for a short time, then started missing like crazy. So, tried the one for the '83 and it ran fine for a short time then died. Put the other one back in, still missing. Tried the '83 once more, it started, and is still running. Not real confident in things as of yet. Supposedly mine, being an '84, uses the newer style, but it's "Born On" date is actually 11/83, so I'll have to pull the one in it to see the model code that is in there. I also have a module in the '85 but I'm suspecting that is what's wrong with the '85 in the first place. Bottom line, we're caging it up to Carl's tomorrow, and I will have to see how things are before I try to make it to MD next weekend. May cage it there but hopefully we are riding here. Just gotta gain some confidence first! That and put all the plastic back on and get an inspection...
21. Do any of you guys have a cut down windshield; meaning at least 3-4" under your line of sight? If so, what do you think of it? Like it? Hate it? Does your head get buffeted too much? The previous owner had installed a Clearview but the top of it is directly at my line of site level so I'm always trying to sit up or I'm slouching. Actually, I hate to look through a windshield; much rather look over them. I'm considering cutting 2-3" off this Clearview but just wondering if I should go taller instead.
22. if anybody can tell me the best place to buy some wheel bearings on line for my 83 that would be great, thank you.
23. Football practice started this weekend. 4 hours on Saturday, 3 hours on Sunday. I am fat and out of shape, but I think I will be alright. About 1/2 hour into Saturday my body finally realized I was serious and started to loosen up. I made it through the four hours of practice in pretty good form. I really felt it saturday night though, I laid on the couch and about died. Yesterday was much better, it was fun to line up and hit people. We weren't wearing pads yet, but we probably should have. I just about broke the defensive tackle's nose on one play. I am pretty confident I will be playing first string center. I am the biggest guy and I can long snap. The entire offensive line is 300lbs plus. I was smarter yesterday too, I didn't go home and lay on the couch. I tried to keep moving all day, which kept my muscles loose and prevented me from building up a bunch of lactic acid and freezing up all together. I was pretty stiff this morning, but I was surprised that I woke up well before my alarm went off. I actually slept pretty good. The pain is ok, the more I endure now, the more I get to deliver later The quarterback is decent. The defensive line is all 275lb +. I hope to play some d-line too. The defensive and offensive backs are average size. Everyone seems to want to be there, and we had some good intensity. We may even win a few games this year. if you want to know more, check out : www.dbqbruisers.com
24. I ride in this every year (3000+bikes) very well organized and I've never seen any trouble. People line the whole route watching. Was told by someone watching last year that it took 45 minutes for all the bikes to go by. I get there about 9:30am because I like to ride up front. Plus shorter lines to the food when you get to Shriner's Circus park. It's like one huge bike show after registration and line up. Just wanted to invite anyone and everyone who may want to take a good ride for a good cause. Let me know who wants to ride and we can meet for breakfast and ride together. 25. I 'm a new member as well as a first time owner of an 88 VR. Never been bikeless since 1963 and currently ride a 90 PC. Very excited to get this VR on the road as soon as the snow melts here in Ontario but have one immediate issue. There is no clutch pressure so I checked the reservoir and it was empty - strange since the previous owner drove it to where it was parked, although that was a year ago (he bought a new RSV last year). I added some fresh fluid but couldn't get pressure. Should my first step be to bleed the line and then check to see that there are no visible leaks. Any advice on this problem or bleeding the line and anything else that I should do to check it out and make sure all is good. I hope to ride this bike for many years.
