  1. I've got a '00 Honda Rancher, I don't ride it much and here lately it'll crank right up, but once the fuel is consumed out the carburator it goes dead. I'm doing the Seafoam treatment and some WD40 through the intake. I think the float was stuck and now it seems to be working (maybe) While its idling I can watch the fuel line from the tank go empty through the glass filter...it gets just enough to idle and nothing more. I've pulled the fuel line off and have good flow. I've checked the breather tube on the gas cap and its open. I've drained the bowel on the carburator out several times. Any advise on what to check next (would a poor vacuum cause this) or should I break down and find a mechanic. Thanks for ya's input.

    back rest

hi from sunny England just been given a driver back rest but with no brackets does anybody know where i can get them. on back REST YAMAHA VENTURE LINE 1983 VR:innocent-emoticon:
  3. Here are the Mechanic's pics of the Rome, GA 2010 M&E (a little under 800) Sorry no pics of everyone lining up and the Mechanic walking the line hugging everyone, with some skipping down the line for more than one hug. http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawk%20Mechanics%202010%20March%20on%20Rome/
  4. I have a first gen 83xvz1200 if I pull off the fuel line at the carbs I can see fuel pumping out but thats it just by turning the key it happens. If I put a little gas in the carbs then start it it runs till the fuel i poured in burns off. If I pour gas in carbs and leave the fuel line off while the engine burns off the fuel I poured I don't see any fuel coming out the fuel line from the fuel pump. Have no idea what to do. Seems it's not getting fuel somehow!! Thanks, Chop
  5. I just visited the site to get info on Star Touring for someone else on here. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelhome/586/0/home.aspx While I was there, I took a look at the Royal Star line up, just for laughs. They offered an on line poll about their site, so I took it, and let them know what I wasn't happy about. Here's the things I put in the comment boxes. Trying to find info on 2011 Royal Star Venture models. Instead I see you're still advertising 09 models! What's coming in 2011 for the Venture??? Found info quickly I just wasn't happy with what I found out about the Venture model line. Will the venture be around in 2011, and will it be the same as my 2005, or a new bike with FI and more power? Check it out, and give Mama Yama a piece of your mind! Later, Scooter Bob
  6. I have a 1989 Venture Royale. My trunk light and emergency flashers don't work. There was some questionable wiring in the trunk by the PO and probably blew the fuse. The schematic shows a fuse in line but I can't find any fuses blown. Is the emergency flasher fuse located somewhere other than the fuse panel?
  7. I was down at the North Star Power Sports last Thurs at noon picking up a new speedometer cable for my bike. There were about 4 people ahead of me in line. Anyhow, the guy being helped was ordering parts for a Venture. Was that you? Just asking as there aren't many Ventures in the area.
  8. Help, I changed the oil and used a ST7317 filter a little longer. The question is where in the sight glass do you fill it to? The top line or the middle between the two. Heading out to the beach this morning about a 400 mile ride and do no want to run it too low. I am just above the middle between the lines at 3 qts. The book calls for 3.9 with stock filter change. I started it and then let it set for about 4 minutes before I checked it. I put 3.5 qts in and there was not even a air bubble in the window so I sucked some out. Do I fill it to the top line? Thanks for you help. I,ll go check the tire while I wait for a reply.
  9. After reading the remarks and thinking about what I wrote I was wrong...and for that I am sorry, I know this site is for fun and to help each other and I crossed the line I am sorry and hope to make it up.
  10. Man seems so quiet while MD is going on or has that storm knocked every one of line. I think there are more people on line at 5 am than there are now.
  11. any one here a Tractor guru?? I am looking for a starter for my `54 VAC, I found new /re-built starters at one place on line, but they want about what I payed for the tractor....
  12. I bought a Brake Bleeder made by Motion Pro http://www.motionpro.com/images/items/08-0143.jpg I used it for the first time today. Did my new-used Millennium Model brakes, front & rear OK. Started bleeding my clutch and noticed that bubbles were being sucked back into the line when I released the clutch lever. I checked to make sure the arrow on the one-way valve was pointed away from the bike, and it was... Pumped it again to confirm the situation... No doubt I now have air in my clutch line. I don't think this happened while doing my brakes, but I'll be cautious with them at first. Bled the clutch line by opening and closing the bleeder valve with a wrench each time I squeezed the clutch. A number of air bubbles came out. Time for a test ride to see if its ok.
  13. The 5 gallon aux tank has been received, fitted, and mounted. My 3 gallon aux tank is now boxed up and ready for the next owner that wants to extend their riding range. This tank is a cylinder 8" dia x 16" long with a vented gas cap. It has the fuel line fitting already installed in the bung, an internal baffle, and comes with mounting straps. You can see the design at www.tourtank.com. The mounting used on my Venture was on a shaped board that was bolted to the passenger grab rails (need to remove the pillion seat). Easy to plumb into the main fuel line. All you will need is the mounting board, (4) U-bolts, (4) 1/4-20x1.5" bolts with insert nuts, fuel line, inline fuel filter, a ball valve, brass T-fitting, about 6 feet of 5/16" fuel line, and (6) hose clamps. It works well with gravity feed so no aux fuel pump is required (therefore, no electrical wiring at all). All these components can be purchased at any auto parts and/or hardware store (except the mounting board - you will need to make that - I can provide a pattern). This 3 gallon tank will extend your range about 100 miles depending on your riding style. I am entering some Long Distance riding events this year and needed to maximize my range. The max fuel load allowed in Iron Butt Association approved events is 11.5 gallons (5.9 in stock tank + 5 in new aux tank is close enough without going over). There is an ad in the classified. Ride safe, Ride long. RR http://2000rsv.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Misc/1000702/530232780_kAXFy-S.jpg
  14. Hi all. This is my first post. I wish I had found this forum earlier. I own a 1996 RSTC that my wife and I unfortunately don't get to ride as often as we would like. I always use fuel stabilizer when we store it, but this spring when I started it, fuel was dripping from the carb area. As I said, I wish I had found this forum sooner. I assumed it was gummed up needle and seat, and although I've rebuild a few auto carbs, I've never played with these. After calling the dealer and getting a quite expensive quote, I decided I'd tackle this myself. I removed the carb assembly and I'm going to disassemble them asap. I noticed it is the first carb in line from the inlet of the fuel line that is leaking. I'm a little leery about all this and don't know if I should go all out or just remove and clean the bowl on the one I have now leaking. Also, I'm wondering about a sentence in the Yamaha service manual I purchased with the bike that says don't use any caustic carb cleaners, just use a petroleum based cleaner . I was going to soak the bodies in Delco carb cleaner over night, wash them off in hot water and soap and blow them dry. Now I'm lost as to what to do. I also will try to change the fuel filter, but it looks buried in the frame pretty good. I haven't really looked closely at that situation yet. Any advice would be appreciated. Wish I had known about simply tapping on the bowl or using sea foam (whatever that is, I'll look into that also). Thanks.
  15. I have a 2006 RSV. Does the brake pedal work the front left caliper? What is the best order for bleeding brake line?
  16. I am confused, baffled, disappointed and so on and so on. Got my gauges installed and must admit, they look awesome. I was sooooooo careful with all the wires, the oil line and the temperature cable. No kinks, or sharp bends. Routed everything like a pro, well, at least in my mind. Everything hooked up, gas tank back on, fired her up. Lights come on, volt meter works and that's it. Temp gauge doesn't register anything. Oil gauge,,,,,,,,,,,nothing. Although I used the black tubing from Ponch to cover the oil pressure line, I can see that oil has started up the line however I can not see how far. I do know that it hasn't reached the gauge. Is it supposed to? Just turning the ignition on for power, not started, the oil gauge goes to just over 20 and that is where it stays when running the bike. WTF????? I was so careful. The only thing I did different is that I used the Equus 1.5" gauges. I think they look better and they match the speedo better than the white face gauges. I do want to say that Ponch's instructions are fantastic. There is no way in hell I would have been able to do this without them. THANKS PONCH! HELP!!!!!! Any idea what I could have done wrong? Wouldn't surprise me if it was somthing obvious. Go ahead guys/gals,,,,bombard me with your wisdoms. I will get all your replies on my blackberry so fill me with a pile of stuff to check when I get home Friday. I WANT TO RIDE! Do I sound desperate enough. Greg. (AKA Thor)
  17. Hello Everyone! Wife and I are thinking of riding the Cabot Trail this year for our vacation. Would like to know if anyone has taken this ride and what your opinion of it is. We have nine days to do it in, our starting location whould be from Massachusetts. We will be doing the entire ride on land to take in the coast line rather than useing the boat trip from Main. Any help or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Joe & Val
  18. Hi there, I am in need of the "roving" valve shim/tool kit... does anyone know where it might be and how I might get in line to use it?? Thanks very much Gary
  19. Am looking at some mesh pants with liners for the coming season. Have looked pretty close at the TM Flex and they look good as well as the Fieldsheer. I got wind of a company called Sixth Gear and they have a mesh pant called Stinger. Looks good on line and about half the price of the TM. Anyone had any experience with these? Thanks for the input. Norm
  20. In another effort to find out why she ('83 VR) is running like crap, I was looking at some of the carb sync threads and was trying to locate all applicable parts on the carbs. Instead of a "plug" on the #2 (?) cylinder (left front) I noticed there is a vacuum line on there. This used to run to a cannister above the plastic heat shield on the rear cylinders and from there to ???? The cannister had a big hole melted into it following a exhaust leak and I never traced the outgoing vac line down. I did not see "vacuum line" mentioned anywhere, so is this thing on all bikes? i.e. does it matter/is it important? Am I correct in assuming that I should be OK to cap this tube altogether? Is it safe to say that if my plugs are all a light gray and the exhaust pipes all get hot my coils are good? Same question for the CTI? (which I have not found yet!) There is (a lot of) road grime on the left front carb towards the airbox and the left rear carb appears to be "wet" as well, any idea where this may be coming from? I seem to remember some/ several saying to pull the YICS chamber, don't remember why, if I do, do I plug the hoses or cross connect them and in which way? Well that ought to get me started I think. Thanks in advance! edit: should probably add that I could smell fuel while checking around
  21. In June, my wife and I along with another couple will be taking a vacation to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway and Sky Line Dr. There will be 2 bikes and both will be towing a trailer. We are planning on leaving GA traveling north on freeways to Virginia, do some white water rafting and then head over to the northern most end of Sky Line Dr. We want to head south on Sky Line Dr into the Blue Ridge Parkway continuing on BRP to the southern end. This is where I am asking for advise: How many days should I plan to be on SLD & BRP? We want to go at a casual pace enjoying the views and photo opportunities. Also, does anyone know of any "must see" things and places along the way? All advise will be appreciated! I know it's a little early for this because June is a long time off but we need to know how many days vacation requests to put in for.
  22. Does anyone know of a chain store where I could buy a Zumo 550? Living in Canada I'm nervous about buying on line in case of warranty problems etc. Cross border shipping suks too.
  23. Where is the best place to purchase the folding flag poles PGR members use when standing the line?? Could someone please post the web site for me thanks
  24. its a long story so the question is... on the vac line to the vacuume sensor as it should be called, there is a small plastic piece that couples two pieces of vac line tiogether. there is an arrow on that piece that points towards the carb, or toward the sensor??? I have been fighting an extremely annoying problem for some time now that i think may be related to this part and its orientation in line. Im gonna cry if its just a matter of the stupid thing being in the wrong way... its almost always a very easy fix, made alot more difficult by our own over thinking....
  25. OK hope I do this correctly now that I located where to start a thread. Bought a used Markland hitch for my 87 VR that was suppose to have came from same ride. Hitch doesn't seem to line up. Looks like you use the rear floorboard bolt and the rear saddle bag frame bolt, Does anyone have this hitch, pictures or an instalation PDF. thanks Trevor
