  1. I just installed some LED turn signals/running rights from custom dynamics. Now I've got a yellow looking head light. I'm looking for a head light that'll cut the darkness like a knife. I'm not an electrician I just want a plug and play head light that's bright and doesn't draw to many amps. I was thinking about the Piaa lights from custom dynamics does any one have them and like them what one do you have? Part number if you have it also..
  2. My 91 Voyager has the battery light on but it has a new battery and it is getting 14v at idle I am wondering if it has the same battery sensor that the VR did for wet battery's. If someone has a clue on Voyagers give me a shout, this is my first one. Tom
  3. I had a friend give me a 1988 venture royal. It hasnt ran in a couple of years, after some good cleaning and fresh gas and oil i have it fired up and running. I am having a problem with the battery draining down and going dead over night. and all light work except the head light. the bulb is good just not getting any power to it. checked the high low beam switch and not getting any power there either. Ive chexked all the fuses i can find and they are all fine. Im not sure if the two problems i have are related or not. Any helpful hints on where to look next would be great.. thanks for reading my post.
  4. My '83 Royale with cruise fried the plunger on the brake light switch. I mistakenly ordered the two wire switch, when,of course, I NEED the four wire switch. Given that the four wire switch is several times the cost of the two wire switch, is there some way to use the two wires for the brake light, and do something else with the other two wires to fool the cruise into working? Possibly tying them together to complete the circuit, or applying 12V to one or the other? Any help greatly appreciated!
  5. I hope im in the right spot. Hi all,I have been reading over the forum but couldnt find an answer so here goes. I have a 98 royalstar xvz 1300 and have had the carbs rebuilt or overhauled keep in mind I pulled the carbs off the bike and took them to my local yamaha dealer after installing them the bike runs great with 1 problem the overdrive light blinks 3 times when the key is turned on and when you start it the light stays on. I cant find anything in my clymers manual or the internet so any help would be most appreciated thanks Russ
  6. Looking for a trunk light wing for a 2004 midnite venture. Thanks Kelly
  7. I was looking at the front of my 2006 RSTD next to my 2009 Liner. The liner light looks SOOOO much better. Is there an aftermarket headlight assembly replacement for the RSTD? Any pictures of bikes with this done? Also looking for passing lights to match them. I was looking at the Yamaha lights and bar, but heard about power draw on the light bar as well as all the other options. Whatever headlamp I decide on, I'm going to get some passing lights that compliment it.
  8. i picked up my brand new 2009 rstd from the dealership on Friday. 15 km into my initial ride I pulled up at a red light when the light changed all of a sudden I had no gears what so ever. Although it is in deed under warantee i would love to here from the membership as to how I should handle this situation. needless to say I am very disapointed.
  9. My passing lights have quit working. I split the fairing to check it out and found that the switch , fuse and wiring are all ok. I pulled the the 2 + leads from the double bullet connector going to the lamps and checked voltage, I have 11.7v at that point. When I plug the 2 + leads back into the double bullet connector my voltage goes to 0.0v It is not blowing fuses. I have played with the wires going into the light bar and it still won'n light. Why would my voltage drop to 0 when I plug in those two + leads but not blow a fuse?
  10. went to plug in my led taight light. took out the old bulb, plugged in new board. turned the key and, no headlight , no brake light. no taillight,, I have flashers, turn signals, what the hell happened.
  11. The superbrightleds.com light that I ordered to mount between the helmet locks turned out to be too long and a little too wide, so not to let it go to waste, I found a spot on the rear of my trailer This one is, I think different from the Signal Dynamics one in that it not only is a tail light/brake light, it is also turn signal capable. Sooooooo....
  12. Some time ago I added an HID Bi-Xenon kit to my 1986 Venture Royale. As kits go it has done a decent job and for $60 who could complain. It was a massive improvement over stock, but as with all of these kits, it was not coming close to the true potential of HID headlights. The light output was compromised by two main factors, the poor stock reflector and the fact that the bulb moves to create High and Low beams. Whichever way you cut it, in one of those positions (and probably both), it was not at the true focal point of the reflector. So it was time to do the job properly, and install a projector. First problem is the glass lens on the stock headlamp. It is cut for halogen bulbs. Projectors need a clear glass cover if they are to work well, and the '86 doesn't have one. However, the earlier bikes do, so first up was a trip to ebay for the front cover, rubber boot and glass from an '85. How hard could it be to make that fit over the '86 headlight bucket with the original headlight glass left off? Harder than it appears is the answer, but not so hard that you shouldn't try it if you are so inclined. It was open to me to do a full retrofit of the earlier headlight, and this may be a better way to go but I don't know how the earlier headlight mounts, and what additional parts might be needed. So ... This is what I started with: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0292.jpg Nothing wrong with it, it's just not good enough for the amount of night riding I sometimes have to do. First up was the HID kit. I bought the Stage III Superbike Kit ($150) from theretrofitsource.com The kit comes with literally everything you need except a man to fit it all for you. The components appeared to be of high quality although there was some excess flashing on the Shroud that needed removing. No complaints. The kit also came with a Left Hand Drive Projector, more of that later. This is what was in the quickly delivered box: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0290.jpg And the parts laid out: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0291.jpg First job was to split the headlight. Ten minutes in the oven at 265F, and it came apart with no real effort at all: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0317.jpg Then the whole of the inside of the bucket got two coats of grey primer and three coats of black paint. It looks good in black, but also serves to prevent any excess light from straying into unwanted places: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0324.jpg Note ... There are two tabs in the hole where the original bulb fitted. They need removing and a file made short work of that. Also, the solenoid wiring has to emerge somewhere so I drilled a 1/4" hole in the reflector just below the projector. This will be covered by the shroud and not seen. Then we can mount the Projector, Bulb and Shroud in the housing. The projector is the smallest available at 2 1/2". The shroud appears massive, and doesn't fit at first as the diameter is too big. A few minutes with a hacksaw and it fitted just fine. The shroud is simply glued to the projector with a fitting ring and some silicone. http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0329.jpg And the rear .... http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0325.jpg I have covered the thin wires with a couple of layers of heat shrink, and they are now siliconed in place and have wire protector round them. Having stripped out most of the wiring for the old kit, all that is left is the ground from the switch I fitted above the brake master cylinder. This interrupts the ground to the lights and I use it as a manual On/Off switch. I leave this in place as I plan on re-using it. Next up is fitting the new wiring harness. There isn't much room. I found a place to install the two included relays. They are bolted to the center inner fairing behind the relays and below the instrument panel. The ballast has it's own bracket which bolted handily to the frame, just above and behind the headlight adjuster. I fitted the supplied plug to the solenoid wires (for High/Low beam) and plugged it into the harness. Connect the ground and run the hot back to the place on the Auxiliary fuse panel that was powering the original kit. All the wires in the harness are very well protected, they just need clipping in place ... cable ties rule! Now the difficult bit .... The rubber boot for the '85 was not designed to fit the larger shell of the '86. Surgery was needed to cut away quite a lot of rubber. Another problem is that the top of the front frame will not clear the two protruding brackets on the VR frame, so it had to be cut away leaving the whole part less strong. It will be okay because it is firmly held in place, but care is needed. So ... Now I have a clear front glass that will fit, but there is another problem ... Isn't there always! There is no way that the new arrangement is going to keep water out of the projector. The light is well enough protected at the sides and from below, but any water running down the screen is going to run straight under the trim and through the butchered rubber boot. Something has to be done. I decided that if I could seal the gap between the windshield and the front of the fairing all would be well. What I needed was a seal that would effectively cover the whole of the area behind the chrome front trim. What I had is an old inner tube, and I vaguely remember that rubber is waterproof This is the result: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0330.jpg The rubber is completely sealed onto the windshield with silicone. Once mounted it was very easy to cut the lower edge to match the profile of the trim, and the whole lot is invisible. Any water running down cannot now get into the front of the fairing, or the light. It should be good enough. And the final reveal .... This is what it looks like now: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0332.jpg That crack at the bottom has been repaired, and it needs painting to match the bike, but the bike will be painted so it can wait. The gold doesn't look too bad. I couldn't get video of the original, halogen light output on video simply because it didn't put out enough for a decent picture. I got a blurry still pic to give you an idea: http://i1092.photobucket.com/albums/i418/twigg2324/1986%20Yamaha%20Venture%20Royale/Headlight%20Conversion/DSCN0306.jpg I did get video of the resulting output. The video id decent, but it doesn't give the full impression ... It is shot 25 feet from the garage door. You will immediately spot that the beam is dipping the wrong way. That is the incorrect projector. I called the supplier and explained. They were a very apologetic and said it had the wrong solenoid shield fitted. A new one was on it's way withing a couple of hours and I'm told it's a very easy part to swap out. I have been impressed with these folk: This light, and the pictures do not do it justice, almost turns night into day. The improvement over stock is phenomenal, and the improvement over the previous HID kit has to be seen to be believed. At some point I will add a couple of HID Driving Lights ... One Spot beam and one Eurobeam, but for now I can see
  13. I am installing an LED brake light I have laying around from another project. It fits the Midnight like it was made for it! got lucky there. Where is an easy place to splice into the brake light circuit without a lot of trauma to the wiring harness? I started taking the seats off, looking for whatever I might find, then remembered about this forum. I did some searching, but mostly the results were about lights that also had turn signals. I just need the brake light wire. Thanks, Bert
  14. I,m going to get a rear light bar from diamond assy and need to know where to wire it up since I pull a trailer with my bike behind the plate is already taken.. So any idleas
  15. Well, the Canadian Cruiser Custom HID light that I installed last April has developed a mind of it's own. Sometimes it won't light up and when it does light, when it decides it goes out. It did that several nights ago, so thank goodness for the passing lights!!! The middle little "bump" in the bulb is cloudy, and I don't remember if it was that way when I installed it. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this kit, to determine if the bulb has failed or if the ballast has gone out? Oh well, for now the bike has a brand new Silverstar Ultra installed.
  16. I just received my run/stop/turn light from Super Bright LEDs. I know to mount it to the bolt holes between the helmet locks on my RSV, I need spacers, to set it out enough to clear the trunk. I have seen where some of you that have this light bar have used what looks like white plastic bushings. I'm wondering what they are and where did you get them? Or what have others used?
  17. No, I didn't drop it or break it in any way! Caution: Long Bonehead Post Traded in the Roadstar and picked up my new (to me) 2002 Venture today. I went over the bike with the salesman and thought I had it figured out pretty well. Just getting out of town and an unfamiliar green light came on (on the left side of the dash). Bright day and me without my reading glasses interpreted this as an oil light !!! (Started with "O" and had two more letters/characters) Went back to the sales guy and told him the oil light was coming on intermittantly. We checked the oil level (OK) so he agreed to replace the oil level sensor (Had to be that, right?). By the time I left town again and rode another few miles, I began to see a pattern of when the light would come on - always in fifth. D'oh - Overdrive light!!! Embarrasing to have to email the guy when I got home a couple of hours later and tell him he could cancel the order for the part - especially since he had agreed to fix it on their nickel! To make things even better, after my first return to the shop when I first discovered the "oil light" problem, I decided to try out the radio and listen to some music for the ride home. Figured out how to turn it on and found a station. Worked Ok for a few minutes and then I started getting intermittant loud static. WTF!! First an oil light sending unit and now a screwed up radio. (I hadn't figured out the O/D thing yet) I was a little pissed and returned to the sales guy and told him about the radio. This guy was great but (like me) was not intimately familiar with the Venture. He agreed that something was screwey and said that they would replace the unit inside the fairing!! The parts were ordered (oil sensor and parts for the radio). As I said, these guys are great when it comes to customer satisfaction and service!! By the time I got home, I had figured out the oil light thing and sent an email with my apologies and told him not to bother ordering the part. Started thinking about the radio... Seemed like it might have been an intermittant grounding issue so I started playing with it after I got home; checking antenna grounds and wiggling the wire from the control unit. I could neither induce the static noise nor stop it by any action, including giving the fairing a gentle thump. Sounded like radio interference...??? Funny thing - I never had a bike with a CB system on it but after I thought about it for awhile, I began to wonder what would happen if a CB transmission came in over the radio station. (was thinking there may have been a fault so there was some cross-talk) D'oh again!! Just realized that in my attempt to get the system operating and tuned while riding, I had managed to turn on the CB (hadn't realized it could run at the same time as the rest of the audio)! Next step was to RTFM (Read The F***ing Manual). Next step after that was to send the sales guy another apologetic email explaining that he really didn't have to order the radio parts, either!! In my defence, I doubt that anyone on earth could figure out the Venture audio system without at least a sneak peek at the manual. This brings me to a question... The bike did not come with an owner's manual. I figured out the radio thing with some help from a downloaded manual (from a link posted on this site). The PDF of the owner's manual is not printable. Does anybody have a link to a version that has printable pages? My only other "issue" is the clutch "ring/whistle/chirp". I will look into it a bit before I make any further complaints. Three major embarrassments in one day would be just too many. Unfortunately, I understand that this is a "known" issue and it is something I will likely have to live with (or pay a lot of money to fix). Maybe the sales guy will fix/replace the clutch for free since it didn't cost him anything for the oil light and audio?? (maybe not) G'night Ross
  18. off of work for two-three weeks so i'll be asking alot of questions.on the harley light bar hd-68280-97b,has anyone switched to led bulbs and if so what all dose it involve?
  19. Hello, I'm getting my 1985 VR 1200 up and I'm haveing some problems. I started with charging my old battery, I Put it back in and the battery light came on and the main fuse went when I went to start it, I replaced the fuse and tryed again. The battery is old so I went and got a new one and some fresh gas, charged the new battery put it in and the bike with the fresh gas, It will turn over faster now but dose not even try to start up, The battery light still comes on also. The bike worked fine when I put it away for for the winter. Anyone know what I can do? Thanks, BMattie
  20. This is a true story from the WordPerfecthelpline. Needless to say, the help desk employee was fired; however, he/she is currentlysuing the Word Perfect organization for "Termination without Cause." Actual dialogue of a former WordPerfect CustomerSupport employee with a caller: "Ridge Hall computer assistant; may I help you?" "Yes, well, I'm having trouble with WordPerfect." "What sort of trouble?" "Well, I was just typing along, and all of a sudden the words went away." "Went away?" "They disappeared." "Hmm. So what does your screen look like now?" "Nothing." "Nothing?" "It's blank; it won't accept anything when I type." "Are you still in WordPerfect, or did you get out?" "How do I tell?" "Can you see the C: prompt on the screen?" "What's a sea-prompt?" "Never mind. Can you move the cursor around on the screen?" "There isn't any cursor, I told you, it won't accept anything I type." "Does your monitor have a power indicator?" "What's a monitor?" "It's the thing with the screen on it that looks like a TV. Does it have a little light that tells you when it's on?" "I don't know." "Well, then look on the back of the monitor and find where the power cord goes into it. Can you see that?" "Yes, I think so." "Great. Follow the cord to the plug, and tell me if it's plugged into the wall." ".......Yes, it is." "When you were behind the monitor, did you notice that there were two cables plugged into the back of it, not just one?" "No." "Well, there are. I need you to look back there again and find the other cable." ".......Okay, here it is." "Follow it for me, and tell me if it's plugged securely into the back of your computer." "I can't reach." "Uh huh. Well, can you see if it is?" "No." "Even if you maybe put your knee on something and lean way over?" "Oh, it's not because I don't have the right angle - it's because it's dark." "Dark?" "Yes - the office light is off, and the only light I have is coming in from the window." "Well, turn on the office light then." "I can't." "No? Why not?" "Because there's a power outage." "A power... A power outage? Ah, Okay, we've got it licked now. Do you still have the boxes and manuals and packing stuff your computer came in?" "Well, yes, I keep them in the closet." "Good. Go get them, and unplug your system and pack it up just like it was when you got it. Then take it back to the store you bought it from." "Really? Is it that bad?" "Yes, I'm afraid it is." "Well, all right then, I suppose. What do I tell them?" "Tell them you're too stupid to own a computer."
  21. Did a search and cant find anything that describes my probelm exactly. Ive just finished washing the bike and now it wont crank at all. Ignition on, kill switch on and press the start button, headlight dosent go out and temp light comes on. Tried it with the clutch in and the stand up but still no go. Hope someone here has had the same issue and can help with my problem. Just noticed that the speedo is iluminating but the odometer is'nt showing and the oil light is not on.
  22. I have been looking at light bars for the rear of my 07 RSV. I looked at the thread for the Pilot light bar but dont want to do any drilling and that thread is from 2006. I'm sure there are more options by now. I found one that bolts to the helmet holders but now can't find it again. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  23. Well I bought the AZ LEDs with the intention of putting them on the reflectors. But then I just couldn't get passed the "boo-boo" on my fairing. So I decided to cover it up and add the red LEDs to the side of the trunk. This way they are higher than the reflectors anyway. Got started tearing into it and just couldn't quit...... To get power to them I tapped into the relay for my passing light and ran the wire for the rear lights from there too. I also installed a separate fuse for the new LEDs Oh and this was a REALLY unusual repair for me, no blood was spilled!!!
  24. Has anyone changed out their Tail Light for one of the Halogen or Xenarc bulbs? Also, what about changing the turn signals to a brighter bulb that are available. I'm concerned about the heat build up especially in the turn signals, but it's winter in the Northwest and I want all the light possible in the dark and rain. Thanks George:depressed:
  25. Looking for a light bar for my venture .I hear that diamondR has one but can't fine webpage:motorcyclehelmet:
