  1. Hello my friends It's been a long time since you have heard from me and I apologize for not giving you all an update sooner. Alot has happened and I just did not had the energy, or time, to keep you informed. It might have been easier if english would be my first language, however, I have to translate everything in my head and that takes me a long time. Well, where do I begin. The last thing you might remember was that my dad had been in a coma. He remained like that for about 3 month. Although he finally came out of it, there was still a constance up and down and we never knew from one day to another if he would live or die. Then there was the heart surgery he so desperately needed but it could not be done unless my dad was totally without any infections. In the mean time, I recieved the news that my cousin/god child, Daniela (age 16) passed away unexpectandly, due to a blood clot that had rushed to her heart. Alan and I had just visit her and promised that she could come to the states after she would graduate. Well, she did graduate but will never have the chance to come see us. My little angel is watching us from heaven now. Death was making his round that month. A friend and also a colleague age 55, passed on, due to a car accident. Meanwhile my dad was fighting for his life. I told him that there were so many people, he would never knew, praying for him. I spoke to him yesterday as he finally came home. He wanted me to tell all of you who kept him in his prayer, THANK YOU. My mom, myself and my brothers thanking you aswell. Within the last 11 month Al and I lost 4 people we loved and cared about. It makes you think. Life is short, live everyday like it is your last. Let the people you love know how much you care. One day it will be too late!! However, there is so much to be thankful for. I'm starting to enjoy life again. As you all know by know, we purchased a 2003 venture royal. It is awesome. What a ride. Can't wait to see all of you again. I'm due for a PARTY. Long over due. From now on I will be in touch on a regular basis. Missed you all. Renate:thumbsup:
  2. Now I know this is not much to brag about considering what this bike is capable of. but for me its a big step. Considering the person on back is the most important person in my life. It is also the first time I've had a passenger since getting back on a bike in 20 years. (Big wreck). Fortunately I wasn't hurt way back then, but I still ride with those demons every now and then. Add the pressure of my wife being with me and the old demons rose up and said hello. They were imidiately quieted as soon as the front tire hit the pavement and my wife put her arms around me a spoke in my ear. She told me all was well as our children were there to protect us from harm. HAd a few nervous moments. The first stop. The first hard turn and the other first that came along. Now just to remember to raise the air pressure the next time. As all was well and comfy, but rearend bottomed out a time or 2. Put her on the center stand and put the sytem to the high level and all was well with life again. I now its not much to brag on , but I just had to anyways. thanks for lisetening, or should I say reading. David
  3. What is this part, where does it go, what does it do and is it important or not. During the most recent carb maintenance this weekend, the magnet picked this up from inside the center of the v In between the cylinder heads. It seems like I have seen it before but for the life of me I can't remember where it goes.
  4. I would like to hear some opinions on the life expectancy of 1st Gen carb diaphragms... Last week I received a set of four new ones from Sirius Consolidated in Kitchener. They appear to be really nice quality, probably on par with the stuff Yamaha sells. I had some problems getting the carbs synched right last time I tried, fairly consistent in idle, huge difference at 2000 and 3000 rpm's. Ordered new diaphragms just to have them on hand in case a problem arose. Anyway, the diaphragms were replaced about 18k miles ago when a dealer in San Bernardino county rebuilt the carburetors. I have the receipt for almost $900 in parts and labor from the PO. Imagine my surprise when I removed the covers, all four diaphragms have significant holes in them, same amount and pattern in all four. So how long are these things supposed to last??? The bike runs much better now, lot more top end power, noticed that my trusty old Mercury MotionPro must have been damaged last weekend and ended up ordering a Morgan Carbtune... Klaus
  5. I just calculated that my just retired metzler 'perfect 99' rear tire, lasted me for 16,600 miles. How does that sort of tire life seem ? Thanks, Brian H.
  6. A couple of weeks ago I posted about how proud I am of our oldest son. Since he was a little boy he has wanted to get his pilots license and he finally started taking lessons. My grandpa was a pilot, my father is one and I just have to show him off. This was taken yesterday after his first solo flight!! Man, I'm proud to be that boy's mamma!! 5.6 hours of instructional flight and they sent him up alone!!! Life is great!
  7. Has any one tryed Dyna beads in there tires for balancing? I read the post that some were trying it but not much info was there. 1000 miles or less. has any one used it for the life of a tire & how did it work? would you use it again?
  8. Last May, Sparhawk was riding his beloved Victory Kingpin home from work and had a little mishap. The 3 way traffic signal at the end of a long hill turned yellow as he was preparing to turn right. The car in front of him jammed on their brakes and so did Sparhawk, but he grabbed his front brakes, hit a patch of sand, and parted ways with his bike. He called me to say that he would be a little late for dinner, that he had a little accident, BUT his Kingpin was OK. He actually refused the ambulance and rode his bike home. When he got home, I could see that he was not ok (the blood dripping down his sleeve and a lopsided walk were clues) so a trip to the hospital was in order. He had a broken collarbone, 2 cracked back ribs, a gashed elbow, and of course road rash on his leg. They stitched him up, put him in a sling and sent him home. Sparhawk was a hurting hubby and had to take a couple of days off to recouperate. A week later, during a followup doctors visit, we were asked if anyone at the hospital mentioned the spot on his lung (?)We were told not to worry, probably just a hemotoma from the accident, (try not worring for two weeks). Two weeks later, followup xrays, followed by a cat scan, pet scans, Mri's, biospys with cat scans, followed with a diagnosis of lung cancer. From there it was surgery, recovery, port surgery, followed by 3 months of chemo which he is still recovering from. Today in the US, 82% of lung cancer patients do not survive 11 months after diagnosis due to the fact that by the time symptoms appear it is usually stage IV. Because of the bike accident, Sparhawk was diagnosed at stage IB. He is cancer free today, but we live our lives in 3 month increments (until the next cat scan). So that is the story of how his bike saved his life - or at least extended it. As you know, a cancer diagnosis makes you take a good look at your past, present and future. So we now have a bucket list, and this June hopefully, we will be starting on our cross country trip on our '08 Venture, realizing one more dream. We should all have bucket lists - Life is just too short. Sparhawk's Sue
  9. Hi: I am wondering if anyone could give me their experiences on rear brake life. I have an awful rough scraping sound going on in the rear when applying rear brake. No squealing or anything just the scraping sound. I don't recall it being there last fall when I stored the bike. I had a look at the caliper and it looks liket there is still plenty of pad on the outer side of the disc. I could not get a good look at the inside though. The rotor feels a bit torn up on the inside surface as well, especially around the holes. I now have about 23,000 kms (or about 15,000 miles). It may be that the brakes are worn out already, but i thought they should last longer than that. Any help or comments from other 2nd gen riders appreciated! Cheers spaceman

  11. It has been said, and I have found, that if you sing Amazing Grace.... you will feel better for hours afterward. This particular version is unexpected. DIVO performs it! It is done in the magnificent setting of the Coliseum. Very moving. Very uplifting. It is..... "amazing." Listen...my hope is that you will feel better for hours. From my heart to yours. I would like to send to extra special Christmas wishes to Condor, Nadine and family, DKKnight, PrincessM and family, Rocket, and Jercoupe and Yamahamabev for all the friendships and support theyve shared with me in the last year. All the Best Wishes to ALL! Brian
  17. Today was not a very good day for our family. Our dog Lucy died suddenly. Lucy died early this morning, Ron and our son Mark sat with her in her last moments. They chose not to tell me, I was asleep. It is strange how a dog becomes such a part of your life. We had her for 12 years. She was such a beautiful dog, people would stop to comment on her when we were walking her, She used to catch ground moles, and one time she even caught a ground hog in our garage. I believe her great dream in life was to catch a squirrel, unfortunately she never got one. Lucy protected us all these years. We always knew when some stranger was in our driveway. And yet she was very gentle, I think she loved everyone. I thought I would share this with you all. I feel such a loss. We still have our dog Cooper. But the loss of Lucy is going to take a while to deal with. Our son and daughter are taking it hard. I just wanted to share this with you. DO not walk by your pet and not acknowledge their presence. Always make the effort to notice them. Their whole life is to get your love and appreciation. Remember them even when you are busy. I will miss Lucy for ever. She was a wonderful friend to us. 18. Tomorrow marks the first anniversary of our tragic accident and my dear wife, Leslie's death. Honey I miss you as much now as the day I was told about your death. You will be in my heart and thoughts for the rest of my life. The tears still come but not as often. Sometimes the tears come because of happy thoughts. And sometimes I even have a laugh now and then when I think of you. I know you still ride with me where ever I go. Life is moving on and I'm getting better. All the friends I have, have helped me get through this. Thanks to everyone here for your prayers and good thoughts.
  19. How do I begin to tell you how lucky I am to have you in my life? I'll start by saying what an honor it is for me to be your wife. You're my best friend in the good times and my rock in times of sorrow. You're the reason for sweet yesterdays and my promise for tomorrow. I never thought I could feel this loved until I became your wife. You made this year and every year the best one of my life. For you, I thank the Lord above You’ve given me hope, inspiration and truth Because of you I feel never-ending youth Each morning I wake and see your face I know in you, I’ve found my place Our bond is extraordinary, beautiful, and real It’s remarkable how wonderful you make me feel We belong together, you and I That, the world cannot deny Never in my life will I find another man Who could ever fulfill me the way you can I will love you forever in every way That will remain constant until my dying day. I love you! Bobbie P.S. Is that the smell of a freshly baked cherry pie?
  20. I was standing at the sink a bit ago washing some dishes and just thinking..day dreaming.. started thinking about all the awesome things people from this site have done for others, the way they help expecting nothing in return, the way they dig in their sometimes empty pockets to help someone else in need...the way they arent afraid to ask for prayers when they have a issue in their life or the way they arent ashamed to share problems and fears and illness and happiness and sadness with everyone here. some people here i have never met or may never meet, but they have touched my life.....I have cried here, laughed here, even gotten mad here ..Ive lost special people from here..been inspired from here... I have met some of the most awesome people in the world ! I just felt the need to thank you Don.....and everyone else here for all the laughs and the fun times and friends Ive made and things ive gotten to do and be part of because of this. ok you may now return to the regular scheduled program........ .....geez its tough being menopausal..your emotions sometimes control you......
  21. Today a Harley rider told me he would not ride anything else. I said I have never owned a Harley, I prefer the Venture. But that I would ride anything with two wheels and a motor. He replied that he would never get on one of those pointing at my Venture. I told him that I enjoy the silly grin that riding puts on my face:big-grin-emoticon: and not what people on the side of the road think of me or my bike. At that point he went all philosophical on me, and said "It's not just a ride but a way of life!" I do not get it and felt a bit naive. I guess after 32 years of riding and 16 bikes I am still a novice.

    Tire Size

Hey everyone, I know I have read somewhere in the past about changing front tire size. And for the life of me I can not find it anywhere. Can somebody help here?
  23. Just received this................. You can read about it on www.snopes.com Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report' If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'. PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY! THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/mailserver.asp
  24. I've installed my Baron's 1.5" risers and what a difference those make.. better riding position.. and now, time to do the hand grips. The stock grips are too small for my large hands.. I know how to take the bar end weights off but how do you get the left side stock handle off? I saw somewhere in another message how this was done when I first got here but for the life of me I can't find that article? I'd love to change them out this morning so hopefully someone is up early today =) Thanks in advance. Cheers!
