  1. I was sitting here thinking about the long hard winter and all the things I had planned to do to my bike to keep me busy. Well I made a list and posted it below. Got me to thinking what all you people were planning over this down time to keep yourselves busy without going totally nuts. Well here is my list....... where is yours? WINTER VENTURE PROJECT Speed bleeders (4) front brakes, rear brakes, and clutch [*]Change brake fluid in front and rear brakes [*]Reflectors add on to saddle bag guards [*]Knee wind deflectors (from BuddyRich) on lower leg fairings [*]LED lights to illuminate wording in license plate (RED) [*]LED light under tank (BLUE) [*]LED taillight from Strobes& More 21 pattern flashing LEDs (RED) [*]Chrome accent strip on top of saddle bag lid [*]Paint (black) clear wind deflectors on fairing [*]Dress up right and left hand air boxes [*]Oil rear shock with fork oil to stop squeaking [*]Add HD hooded visors to passing lights [*]Spark plugs [*]change oil and filter
  2. http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/LicensePltFrame/cd_chrome_led_frame.jpeg A few weeks ago I replaced my tail light with a LED board and a clear lens. What I failed to do and I didnt realize it until one night last week when a cop pulled me over at 230 am by work was the fact that I didnt have a licence plate light anymore. I then realized that when I switched to the LED board it no longer illuminated upwards like a regular bulb, thus no plate light. My explanation worked and I promised the kind officer that I will get a lighted frame this weekend. After searching several sites, JP being the most expensive in the 59.00 to 120.00 dollar range. I found the above frame at www.signaldynamics.com for a paltry sum of 35.00. 42.00 with shipping and tax....yes, they are located in my home state. Exciting, huh!
  3. Well I've been watching pull behind Motorcycle Trailers on Ebay for some time. Every once and awhile I would show my wife one I thought was nice to get her opinion. Without saying a word she bought me one last night. I had pretty much I would just get a large piggy backer, but she ending up getting me an all Diamond plate with 18 cubic feet of capacity, chrome wheels, torsion axle, carpeted interior and LED lights. It only weighs 190 empty. I am stoked and realize just how lucky I am. (Mini & Cindy she even can stand me Nekid:rotf:) Can't wait to for it to be delivered. COME ON SPRING!!!
  4. I can't seem to find how to convert a LED light bar to become a RUN and BRAKE light. I thought thee was a simple wire connection that you connected to the running lights and brake lights. Anyone know what I'm talking about. BTW, this is for my SUV.
  5. Has anyone purchased a customdynamics led taillight/brake light? Thoughts and comments on quality, brightness, etc.
  6. I thought I saw it on this site some where, but cannot find it. I am trying to find an LED light to replace the 6" x 1" red reflector located above the factory taillight. I have seen a few at JP and Kuryk. but can't seem to find the one I ran across the other day. Anyone? Thanks
  7. Hey guys... I just got an email from Chrome glow- that's where everyone gets that great LED light bar that's in so many posts... (they also have the LED tail light). I told them about the forum and they sent me this: "In with your order I have included a 10% off coupon for your next purchase. Also, if you could post a promo code on the forum that would be great. This is an un-advertised special of 5% off entire order. Use promo venture5 " Looks like there's now one more advantage to being a VR member!!!
  8. Hey gang... Looking to replace regular bulbs with LED's... What base do the front blinkers use? I found a good thread but it says unknown for the front blinkers. I'm looking at these: http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_led_bulbs.htm#Genesis_LED_Clusters_ but don't know which ones to use. I'm going to get dynamic clusters for the rear, the tail light LED cluster, and the running bar with blinkers I've seen everyone posting about. rs
  9. I saw a Venture in Forestburg TX awhile back that had replaced both stock mirrors with a style that had LED turn signal indicators in them. Anyone know where to get these?
  10. I'm looking for a good service manual. I've found clymer and the factory one. What one would be more practical for home use. I'm not going to tear my venture down and rebuild it, just do the basic stuff. I'm also adding some LED lights to it and maybe a louder horn. Maybe a running light kit also..
  11. OK, the first thing I set out to do when I got this bike was to make it more visible with replacement lighting. I did the right thing and set out to replace/add certain lights with LED components. The first one I replaced was the two small square "things" on the side of the bumper with one of these. http://i33.tinypic.com/2q8xbo1.png It was a noticeable improvement, but it just kind of stuck out there. It needed a little something to dress it up. It needed "Bling". Well, a quick visit to a local trucker's chrome shop got me the Bling I needed. http://i34.tinypic.com/2dv03gp.jpg Needless to say, I like the looks of tis a lot better. The next thing I set out to do was to replace the square "things" on the back of the bumper. http://i37.tinypic.com/166x51.jpg Thanks to the good folks at Love's Truck Stop and my Love's fuel card, I bought a couple of rectangular LED marker lights (sorry, no pic). These were also a major step above the square things in that they were not only more visible, but they also seemed to update the bumper just a bit appearance wise. They bolted right up, just had about a half inch of clearance at the top of the light and a quarter inch at the bottom. I could easily move it up snug at the top if I wanted to just by drilling a couple of holes per light. So all is well with these lights. But alas, they only had 4 LED bulbs on each side of the light, not quite what I had in mind for a housing that large. Then a co-worker told me of a trucker's chrome shop in Friona, TX. He said that they had stuff I wasn't going to find here in Amarillo, and he was right! The first thing i found was a rectangular light that was the same size as I had just put on, but had 20 LED's in each light. http://i37.tinypic.com/142hhmc.png I will snug these up against the top lip of the bumper, which will allow me to add a couple of other LED bars under these rectangular ones. The little bars are 4" long by roughly a half inch wide. They will mount directly beneath the larger rectangular lights and will be centered unless I change my mind. http://i37.tinypic.com/2emodn6.png The bigger rectangular lights will be wired into my running lights while the smaller ones will be wired into my brake lights. In the future, I plan on adding additional lights to the side of the bumper and to the rear of the bike, then I'll look into adding more amber lights to the front.
  12. Hi all. Just installed the Chrome Glow turn signal lights last week and they work/look great so I ordered the tail light. Installed it tonight and it looks great. So here is the problem. I tighten down the lens cover to finish up and then turned the key thats when I had no lights and the horn is blowing. What gives?? I then took out the LED and put back the stock bulb..samething! I have a trip planed to Vermont this weekend and it would be a long trip with out lights and listening to the horn(LOL) Any Ideas??? Thanks. Bill
  13. I am on my 30 day ride thru the New England states right now. The wife joined me by flying in and renting a car. She followed me to Bar Harbor for a few days then followed me to Camden where we're staying. She leaves today and I'll resume riding. A few months ago I added a new LED light strip on the back of the bike as well as some other goodies. This strip has three lights that stay on full time and about 5 others light up very bright when I apply the brakes. During bothe times the wife has followed me it has been very sunny. She said that she often cannot even see the stock brake light but the new strip is very visible, even in the sun. She thinks I need to fix that right away but she also knows the LED provides good protection/warning. Just an FYI in case anyone was thinking of adding any lights back there. DO IT.
  14. i just installed six led lights on my saddle bags . lights have 3 led bulbs in each light. i will hook up to the running light wire off bake light. leds will be used as running lights not brake. do you see a problem here as far as having enough power to do so? thanks
  15. I purchased the Baron's mini-bullet tach (BA-7573-00) with brake resivoir mount kit a couple weeks ago. This model has white LED backlighting only. The instructions were universal and pretty much pertained to HD intall. After e-mailing John and getting pertinant instructions (not found in the supplied paper work) I was on my way. There is a tech article here in VR on the installation, BUT there are a couple changes! The blue wire from the sigle fire ignition adaptor runs all the way to the rear coil's (either one) negative side. The black wire from the tach cannot be grounded to the coil bolt but another frame ground. After installation, the LED back light flickered randomly and the tach needle would fluctuate randomly. There seemed no correlation between the two. I regrounded the tach wire but no improvement. My next step will be to remove the red (tach power) and yellow (LED power) tach wires from the positive terminal of the front coil and connect to a switched 12V source. John's only other suggestion, if this failed, is to install a resistor. Any of you weekend mechanics or better yet a seasoned mechanic have any ideas? Within the last month I had a complete tune-up including carb sync.
  16. Someone at work pointed this out to me today. Wireless LED helmet mount brake lights. I suppose it could also be used on a removable trunk for those with a RS Tour Deluxe. http://www.atlantispowersports.com/wirelesshelmetlight.htm
  17. I was roaming through the Custom Dynamics (www.customdynamics.com) site and noticed that they have a new tail light board. It's a drop in like the one that many of us already use, BUT, it has 100 LEDs instead of the current 32. The 32 LED board is really bright compared to the old bulb, so I can only imagine what the new one looks like. At $90 US it's kinda pricey, but well worth it if that is the only light you are using as a brake light. Just my sick, twisted, unsolicited opinion...
  18. Just finished a small project to add 5-light amber LED pods to the front fork reflectors as side marker lights. My biggest concern was to hide the wires running up along the brake lines. For $11, I think I solved it: I started with two Radiantz Top FX LED pods (amber, with black housing). For $8.99 each, with a 3' shrink-wrapped wire pigtail they were perfect. So not to crack the reflector, I drilled progressively larger holes until I ended up with one just big enough to feed the wires through (photo 1). The LED pods come with 3M mounting tape that I stuck right to the reflector. Bought some 5/8" black vinyl tubing from Home Depot for $11- the down side was that it is only sold in a 20ft roll (photo 2). This is the stuff commonly used in ponds and fountains, so you might have some luck finding it somewhere where you can buy the 2.5ft that you need. Oh well, so I have extra now. Cut two pieces of tubing, each the length of each brake line, then slit it down the back with an exacto knife. This allowed me to slide it over the brake line and my newly run wiring (photo 3). Once I had the tubing over the entire length of the brake line -- it was a little tight getting it through the guide brackets, but it fit -- I used a small black zip-tie at the top and bottom on each side to hold it snug (photo 4). This left me with a clean looking finished product (photo 5). I took the wires up under the fairing and soldered the hot (yellow) wires into the positive terminal at the back of the conector plug for the accessory outlet. I then soldered the ground (black) wires into the ground terminal at the same plug (photo 6). Now the LEDs come on in the "Accessory" key position. The finished product throws a decent amount of light and looks unobtrusive -- at least to me (photo 7).
  19. Does anyone know if there is an LED Brake Light kit for the RSTD? I want to switch out the entire brake light assembly, and have a full LED kit. I find the LED lights on other bike just amazing. And it seems like a safety issue as well. Is there an aftermarket kit available that does not require extensive re-wiring? Any help most appreciated. Sonny
  20. Has anybody purchased led's from this business...........prices look pretty good, think I might give them a shot....... Flexible LED Strips & LED Ribbon Lights - LED Rope Light & LED Pods | Commercial LED Lighting
  21. Does anyone know where i can get some LED lights for my ride?
  22. I was out at Leesburgh biker event this past weekend, and Custom Dynamic's was there as always with their trailer set up. I bought their LED Night Riderz RUN/BRAKE strip, which I have to say, when I saw it, it was extremely bright, and for $26.00 bucks, I had to try it. It took less then 15 min to install, and looks awesome ! It has a LED light that goes back and forth like Night Rider in RUN mode, and when you hit the brake, it flashes 5 times, before staying lite. I mounted mine right under the license plate, on the reflector, and it is perfect. I'm next going to buy their light bar for under the trunk. Here's the link to their LED strip I just bought, when you open the page, its the first set of 3 videos on top, and the first one to the left, to see a demo. Custom Dynamics did it again! http://www.customdynamics.com/knight_rider_led_light_bar.htm
  23. Under those saddlebags.. Where did you get them and about how much are they? they look like THE rear lights to have.
  24. Just curious; has anyone installed LED accent lights on your lst Edition VR? If so, how many and the color did you add? Also where did you add the accent lights and are they connected directly to the battery or???? I am considering such an install but ask for opinions and advise, if there are any. The bike is pretty close to being in original condition and thought this accessory might add style and or improve visibility. B/r
  25. Been laid off for a couple weeks so I decided to put new lights on trailer. Hope to be seen now the original lights are so dull and LED is the way to go they are bright. I thought that upper light bar would really help. Put new license plate lights in and pulled the wire out on one need to replace that. Now all I need is warm weather.
