  1. The stars must have been crossed yesterday. Lost my 05 RSTD key in the sand. Found out my son put the spare key in the locked saddle bag by accident. Had to leave the bike over night in the parking lot. Any suggestion on what can be done. Can the Yamaha dealer cut a new key with vin number. They do not open until 10 PST. Is there a parts number for the blank. Locksmiths at Lake Tahoe want $150 for a mobile but may not have Yamaha keys:fiddle: Thanks Nevada Max
  2. I went looking for a key blank for my first gen Venture. I had read that the ILCO YH46 X120 was the correct blank but there is a better choice. The keymaster at our local ACE Hardware had the X120 but said the HICO 11010 YH50 was a better match for my OEM key. Of course, it has a flat head, not the Yamaha plastic logo one, but I was looking for one I could stash somewhere on the bike so no problem. ACE UPC # 029069706852. Price = $2.19 plus tax and that includes cutting the blank!
  3. Can anyone direct me to the location of the fuel pump relay on and '04 Venture? I can wire direct and the pump runs fine but get no power when I turn the key to the "ON" position. Anyone else had similar problems? Solutions? Thanks, Chief
  4. Hi together, i just bought an 85 XVZ12T, and have an E5 error. when i turn turn the key in the CLASS position the display switch from show all to E5 and back.when i turn on key i hear just a click from the rear pump sektion . Today i remove the class and do the E4 error fix like i saw it here but it doesnt help, does anybody have an idea what E5 means i searched the site but found nothing about E5. would be great if you can help me out sincerly harry
  5. Boy Guys and Gals, I could really use some help on this one! I am an IDIOT when it comes to electric problems! I had the 86'VR in the garage to replace the starter solenoid and after the work, the headlight will not come on when I turn on the key. No low beam or high beam. So far I have checked the fuse (good) and sprayed contact cleaner in the ignition switch with no good results. PLEASE help me!!! Earl
  6. I'm wanting to replace the fluid, and check things out in the front forks of my 83 Venture. The first thing I need to do is figure out how to remove the plastic piece where the key and air valve are. I don't want to force something and end up braking it, but I can't find how to remove it in the service manual.
  7. I need y'all's collective experience to hopefully save me some troubleshooting time. I know I have warranty left but I would rather KNOW what's wrong before I take it to a dealer, IF I take it in at all. I backed the RSV out of the garage this morning to ride to work. Turned on the key and heard the fuel pump click a couple of times. Push the starter button, heard a click then no lights, no nothing. Since I put the pigtail for the BatteryMinder on a couple of weeks ago I figure that a terminal is loose. Took the seat off and checked but it's all tight. Turned the key off then back on and dash lights and everything else has power again. Push the starter button and nothing but a loud click that sounds like it's from under the right side cover. I did double check the battery and it's fully charged; in fact I keep it on the BatteryMinder now. Is there a main circuit breaker behind the right side cover? Does this sound like something anyone here has experienced? If it is a circuit breaker then something is triggering it. Any thoughts before I start checking it out would be helpful.
  8. Brenda and I had a nice ride planned to Key West but woke up to icing conditions at our home on Billy Goat Mtn this morning. We couldn't delay departure due to preaching appointments along the way so now we are traveling by CAGE instead. Bummer! Oh well. Just reminds me that I'm in sales, not management Lynn
  9. I recently purchased a 87 VR. The PO of this bike addecd a cig lighter, which runs directly to the battery. While this wire is hooked up the memory light on the radio stays lit, along with a small red light on the radio, when disconnected they go out, Yes this is all while the key is in the off position. I am not sure what one has to do with the other, hopefully someone here can help. Thanks in advance. Kurt

    Extra Key

I was wondering if it's a good idea to hide an extra key on the bike somewhere? How many of you do this now? It sure would come in handy if you lost the original while you were out somewhere. Thanks
  11. Did you have any signs that it was going bad, or was that the problem? I am just asking because my key gets hot, never had any problems with it, but I don`t really want to get out in the middle of nowhere and have it go to junk on me.. Kreg:confused07:
  12. here are a few of my winter projects i have finished cool key chrome around the gas tank switch block led's
  13. where can i get a replacment key made for my 2007 RSV? Does walmart sell or have the blank that will work or do i need to go the dealer? Thanks
  14. I had to replace my ignition now I have key to start my bike and one to open the trunks. Does anyone know if the two keys can be combine
  15. Yesterday, After returning from Pilots Home, Which by the way that Guy adjusted my Carbs and Its Never run that good, Thanks Jim!!!! any way, I got home and when I removed the Key it was pretty warm... Well an Hour later I started the bike up and reved it a time or two and put her away. Well the Key was very warm and the Ignition switch was also very warm. I removed the two allen heads and pulled the cover on the tank and the whole Barrel for the key was very warm, almost uncomfortable to touch very long. I left the cover off and in about 4-5 hours checked it again. It was cool. Now it did sit in the sun but i wouldnt think it should get that hot. Everything works so, do I have a switch going up or is it something I shouldnt worry about. Heat like that to me means a large Amp draw some place, but i could be wrong.. I dont want to end up like this...
  16. Sounds like a stupid question I know, but... I've got a spare key & rather than leave it hanging at home while away on 2000 mile trip, thought it might be better to put in on bike somewhere that I can get it if I lose my key while on trip. Just wondering if anyone else does that & if so where "could" it be hidden so it's not seen but can be retrieved easily enough with just a wrench if need be (like under the seat)? Not that anyone would tell everyone else exactly where they store theirs though! Just looking for ideas...thanks...JR
  17. How do. I"m a newbie, but so far luvin' my 88 royale. I was given only one key with it, and since it's not the original, I don't have the key code. (Not written down in the manual either). Is there another way to find the key code? ....Can I get duplicates cut at the dealership? Knowing my history with keys, I don't wanna wait too long to get a couple of duplicates. Great site, seems to be a real family of members here. Update: I went to key-men.com and they were able to make duplicates from a scan of the key I have. It's a bit pricey at $13 per key, but I felt it was well worth it for the convenience of simply scanning my key and sending it to them. Thanks everyone for the input!
  18. Anyone have any experience with installing this thing? What would be a good "switchable" point to hook up the power. I should turn on and off with a turn of the key so as not to drain the battery if its left on.
  19. can anyone let me know how there Hazards work on there bike, because my scoot the Hazards only work in the Key is on the on position, if I put the key to Acc they stop working so I would have to leave my scoot running while i'm on the side of the road which to me makes no sentce why would this be I will kill my battery this was. Also is there a way i can change this. thank you to all for your assistance.
  20. The wife and I had a few days off this past week and decided to actually do a "tour" on our '07 touring bike. Funny how you buy a touring bike expecting to do all these trips, and then something happens and you find your "tours" are actually day trips to the mountains or to the next town over to do some shopping. I've been aggravating the wife, saying "if we aren't going to tour, I'm getting a cruiser in the garage." Rather than have two bikes, she decided this time off would be a good chance to actually do some "touring." We live in Inman, a little town right outside Spartanburg, South Carolina. Good place to live as you're going to see something different no matter which way you turn the handlebars. I wanted to ride to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to see the Civil War stuff. She wanted to ride to the Outer Banks of NC just because we've never been there and there's a lighthouse she'd like to see. Lighthouses don't do it for me (being a normal human male) and she couldn't possibly care less about some battle that took place in Pennsylvania, of all places. So we compromised. We decided to ride to Key West, Florida! Due to circumstances totally beyond my control (wife couldn't get off the telephone), we didn't get to leave Inman until 2 PM on Tuesday. All my figurin' and calculatin' said that we'd need two full days of riding to get to Key West. On Tuesday at 1:30 she said, "how far can it be." With the bike packed up and ready to roll, and the temperature outside around 95 degrees, we took off. I wanted to at least get to Daytona before we stopped for the night. The bike did wonderfully as we averaged 80 on the ol' speedo (which I presume means we're really doing 72mph, right?). With stops for gas and a few breaks here and there, we managed to get past Jacksonville before the heavy rains came around 9 PM and cancelled our riding for Tuesday. We stayed right off I-95 in St. Augustine at a Motel 8. First lesson of the trip: never, ever stay at a Motel 8. Whatever extra money you'll need to spend to stay somewhere else, it will be worth it. Trust me on this one. Next morning, we're off again at 8 AM. Stopped for breakfast in Daytona, then after breakfast, just because I was curious, we went to the huge Harley-Davidson dealership there (right off the Interstate). As my wife went and looked at the HD apparel, I looked at the touring bikes. Now, let me tell you, I've never owned a Harley, in fact, I've never even ridden one - but man, they're absolutely gorgeous motorcycles on the showroom floor. I looked primarily at the Ultra Classics. Really, really nice bikes. I really liked the size of it. The main concern I have with my Venture is the weight of it and the top-heaviness. The salesman told me about Harley's new feature whereby if you twist the throttle forward, the back cyclinders will stop, allowing them to cool. I assume he meant while sitting at a stoplight or something. I commented that adding a radiator would be much simpler and do a better job. He agreed and said by 2010, all Harleys will be water cooled. Anyway, the cheapest Ultra I saw there was $22,000, and it was an '08 will some bling added. Nice bike, but I just can't get past the air cooled part of it. Wish I could because it looks like it would be easier to handle in town and, frankly, it's much nicer looking and better equipped than my RSMV. Just my opinion there, okay? We finally made it to Key West around 9 PM on Wednesday night. We were delayed by some of the most horrendous rain I've ever ridden through. One thing I noticed about storms in Florida - they don't move! We tried to wait a couple of them out, but they never moved away! It was like they were just sitting there, drenching everything in sight, daring us to get back on the bike. We had no choice. Wife pretty much insisted I wear the River Road rain gear we bought three seasons ago, which I absolutely hate. You have to be double jointed and not have more than 2 or 3 rigid bones to get into these things. My sleeves blow up like weather balloons going down the Interstate too. Now I ask you - how does one expect a suit to keep water off your arms if the elastic around the wrists isn't strong enough to keep the air from opening them up? Key West was a blast. We parked the Venture and rented a scooter for traveling around the island. Only way to go. If you ever go (assuming you've never been there), rent a scooter because there's thousands of them on the roads and, quite frankly, you'll be hard pressed to find a parking space for anything bigger. Food and lodging in Key West, along with gasoline, are expensive. Adult beverages were kinda high, too, now that I think of it. Take all your extra change. And don't park your rented scooter next to a bicycle rack - you'll get a parking ticket that's gonna cost someone $35. (Don't ask me how I know this.) Didn't see a lot of bikes there, but I did see another Midnight Venture on the island and a Black Cherry Venture going towards the island as we were leaving. There were probably a thousand Gold Wings coming and going - most with trailers. Key West actually has a Yamaha dealership, but no Ventures or TDs on their smallish showroom floor. Guy we rented the scooter from said the HD dealership on the island went out of business several years ago. We left Key West on Friday morning around 10:30. Rode 12 hours and stopped for the night in Brunswick, Georgia. No rain on the way back. The bike averaged around 42 miles per gallon, which I thought was good. I was able to go 170+ miles on almost every tank before stopping to fill up, and it always had more than a gallon left when the indicator on the dash said I was bone dry. The cruise control and the emergency flashers came in handy (used the flashers during the heavy rain so I was sure I could be seen). After I drained the MP3 player (I forgot to pack the recharger), the radio worked just okay. I'm really not happy with the speakers on our Venture. I already had a sneaking suspicion about this, but this trip confirmed that the pillow top seats will have to go. It looks nice and even sits nice for 200 miles. After that it's like some smart arse dumped a bucket of fire ants in my tighty whities. Last time I squirmed this much, I was in the Navy waiting for the doc to tell me if I'd somehow contracted a social disease two nights before. (For those of you curious, I hadn't.) In total, we traveled a little over 1900 miles from Tuesday to Saturday, and didn't even start her up on Thursday. As I sit here now, we probably bit off a little more than we could chew on this trip. This is really not a trip you want to take in 5 days. But this touring bike lives up to the title. It hummed along at 75-85 mph the entire time and never missed a beat. I did notice I had some oil drippage from the overflow tube beneath the bike on Friday morning, but I believe that has more to do with my switch to full synthetic oil just prior to the trip. We'd never been to Miami before. Holey moley - it's huge! It seemed we'd never get out of it. If you ever go to the Keys, you want to avoid South Miami if possible. Stop and go traffic starts where I-95 ends and Highway 1 begins. Horrible riding if you're two up and heavily loaded. Honestly, the Venture is a beast under those conditions. I'm hoping our next trip is to Gettysburg!
  21. Just purchased a '06 midnight venture from the local dealer. It has a aftermarket alarm system. The FOB has the name "phantom X" on it. Unable to find it through google. My problem is the alarm has been going off occasionally when I get on the bike. The FOB is either on the key ring or in the trunk. There is a little push button behinf the fuel filler that is some how linked to the alarm. Any suggestions on how this type works??
  22. I have been noticing that my key is getting hot, hot enough that when I put it in my pocket after a ride, it will get my attention.. Is this a sign that the switch is going bad???
  23. Recently my house burn't with my key's in it. I looked and dug through the debris but with no luck. I have called all the locksmiths in town but they all say the same thing "We don't do motorcycles". I called the dealer and they can sell me an ignition key but i would have to buy seperate keys and locks for the trunk and saddle bags. Any suggestions? Jerry Smith "electrictat2" 1993 Yamaha Venture Royale
  24. Hi all . I can't find a post I made ,it was askin for help with my air suspention control,, Is there some place I can enter the KEY words and find a post ,,, Damn I was just lookin at it ta day ???? now can't find it .. thanks ED:detective:
  25. My 86 Royale will hold the air pressure forever as long as I don't switch the key off accessories. As soon as I switch it off and back on again the pressure is gone. If there were any leaks I should see it drop but the pressure is maintained as long as I don't swith the key off. Can anyone offer an explanation? I am tempted to install manual valves on the lines that I can swith to the closed position after pumping the air into the suspension. It is the only problem that I have that prevents me from a complete restoration of my beloved bike. Chris
