  1. Page 63 of the Oct issue of Rider has an article of a 4 Corner ride with a 2006 RSV as one of the bikes.....nice to see the RSV getting some media attention.
  2. After riding in the snow in Montana in June, I noticed my Gerbing jacket had a split seam under one arm. I knew others had the same issue and Gerbing fixed the problem so I wasn't worried. Should have been. Though the jacket had relatively few hours of use, it was out of warranty and they refused to fix the problem. Please understand. If I had mistreated the jacket, I would feel differently. My observation led me to believe that the seam around the arms on the inside of the jacket is very poorly done. This is a quality control issue and Gerbing should take care of it. I had a seamstress friend take care of it. She also stitched the other arm to prevent it from coming apart as well. If you have a Gerbing jacket, check out those seams. The material has a tendancy to fray once the seams parts. If I had it to over again, I think I would be looking for something besides Gerbing. 3. I hope some of you can help me pinpoint a problem I have with my audio system on my Venture. On a long ride to Yosemite while listening to the radio suddenly the sound would fade away when I was increasing speed and as soon I would let go of the throttle it would return. This problem has since continued. So when I take off it drops the sound as I go through the gears, once I am at cruising speed it is fine since I do not move the trottle much. ****ting down does not affect it. Interesting enough it does not happen to the speakers - only to my headsets. I have tried two different headsets and both have same issue so I assume that it is not the headsets. Also it does it in aux (GPS) and radio. Have not tried the cassette yet. Anyway, any idea what the issue is and how it can be fixed. Appreciate it. Thanks.
  4. I have lost all power 2x now. Once while going 55 and once while parked and both after at least 15miles. I did not have power to anything either time. No headlights speedo etc no power to start the bike. Twenty minutes later all is good. I guess the igniton switch is bad and needs cleaning checking out. I suspected this or battery issues in previous thread and several members agreed it was ignition. I agree after seeing this again as it did it while parked. Turned the key on and off over and over and nothing. Then 20-25 minutes and I'm good to go. It appears that this may be a heat issue. Perhaps the driving lights are wired thru switch causing it to heat up? I reviewed what I can find on this site about the ignition switch issue but find that the temp fix thread is dead. Another person mentions a site (bukeyes perf) but I did nto see the part there. Can someone point me to the fix for the temp fix and explain why I should use it and secondly does anyone have directions on removing the switch. I was told to move the tank back and that there is a security bolts to deal with while another mentioned that he took his off without moving the tank and took 15 minutes. Can someone clarify before I start this week? Any help would be appreciated. Jb
  5. I have an 85 VR with a CB from an 86. All seemed to work well, but I now have a feedback issue when I key the mic with my PTT button. This feedback is noticeable in channels 25 to 40 but doesn't seem to be there in the lower channels. On Ch 20 it is barely noticeable and not a real issue but as I good up in channels the worst it gets. looking for ideas. Carl
  6. I don't know if this is a "known issue" or not but thought it was worth mentioning. I justy picked up my '07 RSV (450 miles) from the Yamaha service department. I noticed a coolant drip from between the cylinders and brought 'er in. One of the heads needed to be re-torqued. As it was it was only a minor inconvenience but could have been worse if undiscovered or it got worse when I was away from home. Just thought I'd see if this had ever been an issue with anyone else. Randy in PA
  7. Just thought some folks might be interested in our progress on this situation. Carl and I had over the winter Avon Venoms installed on our scoots. He had the rear replaced and I had both front and rear. Both of us experienced a wobble at speeds over 110 Kms/hr or 75 Mph. The wobble gets worse as the speed increases. Carl talked to the people at Avon and they indicated that they wanted to resolve the issue and would pick up the costs. We have been to the shop that installed the tires and he also wanted to resolve the issue and is willing to do what it takes. I've had the Avons replaced with another set of Avons (one at a time) without success. Same problem. Now I have a set of Metzlers on and the problem is GONE. I know I'm going to get some flack because I chose Metzlers but really didn't want to go back to Dunlops because I liked the way the Avon handled better than the Dunlop. With the Dunlop I felt every crack in the road as well as expanded steel bridges and groove pavement. So far I really like the Metzlers. For many seasons these were the prefered tires and then one season some folks experienced peices coming out of the tires. In my opinion (and I worked for Firestone for 12 years in the plant making tires) it could have been a bad batch of rubber or some other component so I'm not worried at this point. So far so good and right now I LOVE my bike again.... Was on the hwy at 140 Kms/hr for an extended period yesterday without a problem. Could NOT do that with the Avons. I believe Avon makes a great tire but there is a compatability issue with SOME 1st gens. Wayne
  8. I like Mellow Yellow better than the blue. I have been using it since Don put it there. What is funny, when people see this page up at work, they wonder if I have an issue with my monitor. So, I will keep this theme until it gets pulled. Who all uses this theme?
  9. For trike riders or anyone else interested my trike is on the cover for the spring 08 issue. Jerry M
  10. My buddy, Juan came over today and asked if I would post pictures of his Early 83 VR on the site for him, hes the 3rd owner and the bike has 40,000 miles and no second gear issue in really great shape he lives in clovis NM also' so here they are....
  11. I have an 89 royale that is leaking oil from something? maybe a crossover?! It is between the heads at their base, this thing runs from one side to the other and has a bango fitting on it w/small hose going somewhere. How should I fix it? #2 question --- I believe my bike to have a diaphram issue, does anyone have pics on step by step repair and how to step by step repair? I've read something about liquid tape or yamabond? All help is good help. I just bought it couple months ago, don't know alot about it except it has 28k on it one owner, and I don't think he did anything to the carbs. It starts fine but it definitely doesn't have the power it should! I did check the temps of the exhaust right at the header, soon after startup at idle the rear 2 are in the 360 degree range and front 2 slowly climbed to 185 and on up, but nowhere near the rear 2 exhausts temps, checked for spark in the fronts, both ok. When you really twist the throttle she tends to come to life a little. I'm hoping it to be a diaphram issue. Thanks for any responses:feedback:
  12. Just finished reading the review on the neck gator and the Belaclava. Seems like everything that they tag as a "biker" item, gets the price jacked up. For anyone interested in some very good cold weather clothing without playing through the nose, check out www.maxit-inc.com. I am currently using their Headgator 6 in 1. Excellent piece of clothing. The only issue I have with it is that I wish they made it with a yoke to fit lower onto the chest and back. Also 'merican made. Just my observation and opinion, for what it's worth.
  13. On my new Venture when I have the audio coming through the headsets I can still hear the music on the rear speakers. Even when I have a headset plugged in the back it has sound coming out of it (in esense both the speakers and helmet.) It it very soft and no major deal but it does not seem right. The front speakers for not have this issue. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?
  14. Has and/or will a reverse gear help you decide on your next purchase of a touring bike? This is for men and women owners of RSTD or Venture. My wife is also a driver and has suggested that reverse would be a nice consideration for her when we're talking about 800 give or take pounds. Only the Goldwing and BMW have reverse as far as we know. Will Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, HD, and others join in and add reverse or is reverse not an issue to you owners of the big rigs?

  16. Saw this on eBay. If I had the $ I'd buy it now!!! Forget that the mileage is so low... it's an 85 with serial number 1617. Ya know what that means?? Well according to this thread: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7977&highlight=serial It means no 2nd gear issue. An early 1st gen, with less than 10K, garaged, 1 owner and not susceptible to the 2nd gear issue... PRICELESS! See it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=270169759194&rd=1 Hope someone here gets it!
  17. This seems to be the year of the breakdown for me, so far I have replace the stator and rear wheel bearings on my 89. A couple days ago the bike would not start. Hit the starter and hear the relay pick but the bike does not turn over. Replaced the battery and the same thing. Put the bike in gear, give it a small push, and try it again. Works fine, bike turns over like a champ. Any thoughts on what might be wrong?
  18. Has anyone ever noticed this.... If I have the CB turned on with my 2006 Midnight Venture and I hit the horn, the horn plays through the speakers and not the horn itself! Bit of a safety issue, I would think... Anyone else have this problem? Skunk328
  19. Well, dropped off my 07 venture at 1700 miles to have the rear splines greased and the carbs to be checked( I think they need to be resynced). The dealer told me the neither one of these is covered under warranty. I thought the rear spline thing was a factory issue. Should I call yamaha to find out? I also left them the service bulletin for the "I" basket.
  20. HI, Does anyone have any advise on how to release sticking calipers?
  21. My 84 was in storage for 12 years. It runs strong with no second gear issues but I do have a oil leak somewhere. It seems to be dripping a little down on the collector. The motor uses no oil and only has 22K on it. I have an 89 engine complete minus starter with only 15k. Should I change out the motors to avoid the 2nd gear issue that may show up later. This swap would fix the oil issue as well. Is this a plug and play exchange or are the carbs different. The 84 probably has the plastic impeller on the water pump as well. I might decide to keep the 89 engine until I loose second gear later then swap it out. The engine cases are a lot cleaner on the 89 compared to the 84.I think the head wrench at Skid's garage could handle this job.
