  1. I know we just about beat this to death, but it is a VERY annoying sound. My question is that can I ASSUME that my 2009 already has the "I" Basket clutch assembly installed? Or is it possible I could still have an earlier clutch basket in the bike. Thanks, Wally
  2. I removed the trunk from my '09 RSV and reinstalled the CB under the luggage rack. I can hear my radio and my cb through the speakers but can't hear anything through my headset. Everything is hooked up as before except for the 2 plugs that plug into the trunk. Does the trunk have to be installed in order for the headset to work when plugged into the tank plug? Or is there possibly something wrong with the wiring somewhere up front? Thanks in advance.........
  3. I don't like the look of the storage pouches on my VR, but I'm having a hard time thinking of anything to replace them with. Has anybody here installed any kind of different storage compartment where the pouches are?
  4. I just installed my Tailgunners. What do you think of 'em? They spin like a Gatling gun when the bike is running. They ARE loud. Still trying them out to see if we're gonna like 'em. So far, so good. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3859.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3860.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3861.jpg
  5. Well spring FINALLY arrived here in Michigan. 50+ degrees , so its time for the FIRST ride of the season. "HAD" the screemin whines all last season, found this web site by chance, read that some of you FINE FOLKS did too! So I read all your suggestions, and ACTED ON THEM. I took my '07RSTD to The Owosso Yamaha dealer, they installed a new "I' basket in Dec. under warranty and delivered her back sometime after new year. Then I installed MOBIL 1 fully synthetic oil and waited till the new season. Took her out today, hoping for the best. To my JOY, NO WHINE, at ANY speed, she even shifts smoother. Thank you so much, all the members of VR.org who post helpful hints to a better ride. Im glad to be a member and visit almost daily.
  6. I installed Amber Passing / Highway lamps on my Midnight, info on the box to show you what to order if you're also so interested in doing the same.. Lights were available at local NAPA dealer, you can see the part number on the box. I have a super bright headlight installed which is brighter than the highway lights, so I added the Amber lights to be more noticeable on the highway.. Some were asking about them, you can see it on my bike and decide if it's decent looking or 'uhgly' lol http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/venture/amberlights01.jpg http://www.eastcoastphotos.com/venture/amberlights02.jpg
  7. Hello everyone This past weekend I installed Kuryakyn's 4710 run turn and brake controller on stock signals and also installed the signal dynamics light bar and now when i ride my radio cuts out and starts to squeal maybe two or three time per song randomly. I payed attention and no certain thing I do causes it.When I got back from my test ride I let my bike sit in the garage and left the radio playing and it wouldn't do it while just sitting there. Any suggestions?????
  8. Bought a pair of water bottle holders off ebay for $50 for the pair.. I kept one and gave my brother in-law the other one. I just got it installed today. Removed all of the original snaps, some cutting and trimming and installed the new snaps. Easy reach and it does not clutter up the handle bars being on the saddle bag guard. Now if the snow would just melt....................
  9. The other night I was rummaging through the trunk on my Venture looking for one of my gloves. All the while I was thinking how nice it would be to have a trunk light... well today I installed one. I went into Costco (Price Club) and picked up a package of Wireless LED Puck Lights, 4 in a pack for $14. Batteries included. They have a peal and stick Velcro back and installed in a minute. The light also has a sensor that if I want I can set it to come on automatically when I open the trunk lid... or I can just turn it on manually by touching the top of the light itself. I’m not sure how well the peal and stick will stay attached to the trunk lid on a warm day but time will tell. If it falls down I’ll put on some 3M two sided tape, that will keep it in place. I do have a small flashlight that I carry but this is so much nicer. Works great!
  10. I have a 1986 VR.I bought a markland hitch for it but dummy me can't figure how to mount it.Any one have pictures of one installed would be a blessing. Now I am on my knees,,,,please..
  11. I need a picture of the heel toe shift lever and how it mounts with the floor boards installed. Also how the Brake lever looks with the board installed. The bike must have floor boards on it and not the stock pegs. I have both levers but no mounting plates so that is why I need pictures of each so I can mount them on my trike with some idea of how it is to look. Thanks in advance Bikenut
  12. Installed Show Chrome Celestar Radiator Grill Model 61-108 on my 07 RSTD Many vendors selling it list it being compatible with the Venture only. The ebay seller swore it would be the same as the RSTD – that they have the same radiator setup. Since I got a good deal (half price of new) I figured I would take a chance. Well it wasn’t exactly a direct fit, but it was doable. So I am not sure if the same minor mod is required for the Venture also or just for the RSTD - but I suspect they would have the same radiator setup. Basically though, I just had to do a fair amount of bending on the top two tabs and wallow out the bottom two tab holes a bit more. A little trial and error but got it to work. Attached are pics of what it took and the finished look. Hope it helps if anyone else tries to install one.. And now I run across this Wagner grill on the forum.. now that really looks nice.. but too late -Keith
  13. Greetings Although I'm very interested in installing a C/T due to the potential high mileage nearly every link I read concerning installation of C/T includes a wobble problem, so I have a few questions: 1. Do we know how many have installed the C/T's and had wobble problems vs those who have installed it with no problems? 2. Those who have installed the C/T, are you still running the tire? Thanks Chris
  14. Latest add-on to my 05 midnight venture. Here is my write up on the install with some pics. Installed grip heaters made by Symtec (www.symtec-inc.com) (pic 1). Purchased from http://phatperformaceparts.com for $39.95. After I removed the throttle grip and seen the ribs under the rubber grip (pic 2) had to carve of the ribs off the plastic throttle sleeve in order to attach the heater. Used a box cutter to cut them off, they came off pretty easy. Once I had them removed, attached the heater with the wires at the right position, did not glue the heater as the instructions called for (pic 3). I re-installed the grip over the heater very carefully. The Clutch grip (pic 3a) was a little easier, did have to trim some off the chrome plastic end (pic 3b) to allow the wired end of the heater to fit on the bar. Attached the heater to the bar and slipped the grip over the heater and bar. Wires were long enough to route down the handlebar to the sides of the under the tank. Left some slack on the throttle side(pic 4) to allow movement of the throttle. I removed the tank and seat in order to finish wiring, I installed a relay at the battery area in order to connect to my switch control accessory switch (pic 5) wire which is mounted on left handlebar. I installed this a year ago, purchased from http://www.cruisercustomizing.com It has two push locking switches Top- my red LED lights under bike, Lower- grip heaters, they have a red LED to indicate that they are on. The switches are on an un-switched 12v from the battery. I installed a three position switch on the tank chrome cover(pic 6) for the HI/OFF/LO control, wired the three wire switch to a three pin plug in order so it can removed (pic 7). The three pin connector has 12v from relay, HI & LO wires from heaters. I connected the ground wires from the heaters to a bolt on the frame. I also installed a fuse holder on the 12v from the battery to the relay. They recommend a 3 or 4 amp fuse. I have a 3 amp so far works good. From the first I turned the heaters on, they warmed up pretty fast. Have used them on the cool mornings we have had lately. Wish I would have had them installed before the cold weather hit. I have used them with my regular summer groves and the winter leather groves, great so far. The temperature here is going back up, so LO has been good for now. Time will tell how long these heaters will last; one point for failure will be the wires where they connect to the heaters, especially the throttle side. Luckily we don’t need them very much down here. But since I ride all year round, hope it will make the cold ride into town and back home nicer when I am on the late shift this time of year. My hands were the only parts that were feeling the cold. Hope this write up shows enough. It was fairly easy, about an hour and a half to complete.

  16. I recently purchased a 97 RSTD. One of the first projects I want to tackle is replacing the mufflers that are installed and probably go back to the OEM mufflers. It appears that some aftermarket slip-on mufflers were installed and I am now trying to determine what brand of mufflers are installed on the bike; mainly to be able to sell them, or trade them for excellent condition OEM mufflers. Although the sound is very deep and powerful (and impresses most of my friends), it's a bit too loud for me, especially after Chemo affected my hearing, and I really don't want to tic off all the neighbors when I leave for work at 6 AM on the morning... So any ideas what brand/model these might be? Thanks in advance for any help!
  17. Probably a dumb question...but are passing lamps for additional lighting, or are they for use just when passing...(Don't laugh too hard). Also...are they worth cost? And if installed by the dealer at time of purchase...if I request they be installed with a relay...will the dealer laugh at me. Thanks, Wally
  18. Just installed some Harley Road King exhaust and Clearview shield. I know, I will submit pictures soon. Got the exhaust off of Ebay for $50.00 and they also had the 2 inch chrome exhaust clamp which looks great. The Clearview shield is excellent! I like the forward vent it has and the light tent. It is shorter and wider than stock and the lowers are also bigger. The bike sounds really good and the sheild is wonderful. Pictures to come soon. Mark:12101:

  20. Hi, I'm looking at a new '08 RSV at a local dealer. The sales person says that a CB does not come with the bike, but I have been under the impression that the RSVs came with a CB installed. Am I wrong on this? I did see that it has both an am/fm antenna and a CB antenna mounted.
  21. I just drove a 2009 school bus and it had an AM/FM cassette deck installed from the factory. I didn't bring any casssetes to try it out!!!
  22. Hi all. Just installed the Chrome Glow turn signal lights last week and they work/look great so I ordered the tail light. Installed it tonight and it looks great. So here is the problem. I tighten down the lens cover to finish up and then turned the key thats when I had no lights and the horn is blowing. What gives?? I then took out the LED and put back the stock bulb..samething! I have a trip planed to Vermont this weekend and it would be a long trip with out lights and listening to the horn(LOL) Any Ideas??? Thanks. Bill
  23. Looking to put a wider tire at the rear. What is the widest tire you guys have installed. Curious how it handles, especially leaning in turns. Screaming Red:doh:
  24. Does anybody make a shift indicator as an add on for an 07 rsv and if so has anyone installed and used it?
  25. I tore down my first gen (87) to do some overdue maintenence, and finally took her out for a quick shakedown, and I must say, since I put in the new clutches and doubled up on the spring, this bike has no problem pulling the front wheel off the ground. WOW does she run! In any case I changed the clutches, changed the fork seals, upgrading to progressive springs, pulled and cleaned the starter, replaced the fuseblock, upgrading to atc fuses, added auxilliary driving lights, installed "highway" floorboards way up front, stripped, polished and clearcoated the engine covers, replaced front brakes, yanked the cheesy am fm cassette and cb that the last owner had installed, (don't plan on using them) Installed a pretty cool GPS with MP3 capability, installed a OEM trunk luggage rack, (it's a standard, so it didn't have one), and repaired the broken tabs on the bodywork. So now, with the riding season more than half over, I'm ready to start riding again, and I'm excited. I do HVAC work, so I'm usually pretty busy from May until about now, so I usually don't have much time to ride in the best part of Summer anyway, but I'll try to make up for it over the next month or two. I'm really pleased with how this bike runs. I only bought it this time last year, after researching the older "heavy" bikes, and decided that the Venture was the bike for me because it was generally accepted that it had more power and better handling than the GW, and I think I made a wise choice. I'm not into all the fancy schmancy stuff anyway, I just wanted a bike that the wife would be comfortable on the back of.....she never liked riding on the back of my Nighthawk, but now I think I'll like riding this more than my beloved 85 Nighthawk cb700sc. Just wanted to share my excitement, thanks for your attention.
