  1. just purchased leftover 2009 venture and have been gathering goodies to install. because of this great forum i have decided to install the vmax rear upgrade. i contacted john furber at his sportsmax company and discovered his business is located in catasauqua, pa just 20 minutes from my home town. we made plans to meet at his shop and discuss the upgrade. i had already removed the rear and since the bike has only 125 miles on her we used my rear and had the gears installed into it.i left the assembly this monday at 6:00 and it was done by the next afternoon. picked her up on wednesday and came home and put it all back together. while it was apart i installed the leveling links as it was a snap with no rear wheel in place. too late tonight to ride so tomorrow after work i will take her off the stand and see what she has. just want to recommend sportsmax and john furber to fellow venture riders, he has a passion for vmaxs and has opened his doors to us fellow venture riders...
  2. I just received my polk speakers that I ordered ..and now I can't find the topic with pictures how to install these speakers. does anyone knows, where I can find that topic ?
  3. I saw a thread that I cannot find now. It was a handy step by step instruction with pictures for a Markland hitch install for a 1st gen. There are some details in the install that I just can't quite recall. Iowa Guy
  4. Ok it is time to get wired. Xm radio install (split the fairing etc) should be a breez thanks to all of you. Hope to have accomplished yet this week. Micmutes not ordered yet but install should be easy. Again thanks to all of you. Great pics and instructions. Then there is this whole gps thing. I have been searching the forum and frankly I am lost. Whats the best install? Xm and gps via splitter? Not sure I am capable of listening to both at same time. (I like my Roady.) Gps via Intercom? How would that work with micmutes? Micmutes a must. I don't like amplifying the engine and road noise. Have a Lowrance GPS purchased from the sporting goods dept at Walmart. Supposed to be water resistant. Has an earplug port. Just not sure how to utilize it with our headsets. May be I am just in overload here. Afterall I purchased the scoot to get away. Do I really want to know where I am? By the way, I am not intrested in wiring up the phone. Would defeat the whole purpose!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance. This is one teriffic site!
  5. Just ordered and installed the R-Mark Brake Lightbar and thought I would share my experience. When I got the lightbar (yesterday) I was happy with the quality and also the ease of installing it. It went very smooth and worked perfectly the very first time. I did have some questions about the install and a small instruction discrepancy, however that was QUICKLY addressed through email with Mark. Excellent communication!! I paid $59 +$11 shipping and feel like I got a bargain. If you were on the fence about this lightbar either because of quality OR because of the install...don't be weary any longer...both are non-issues. The quality and operation of the lightbar is excellent and the install is very easy. Just wanted to give an update as to this product and company. Wally
  6. Just installed the S.O.M.A. light bar part# SBRLK. The light bar is on sale now for $44.95. I live close enough so I just took a ride to pick it up. One hour to install. It really lights up the back of the bike. Good riding to all Dave
  7. I was just wondering if anyone uses this backrest? I know most of you guys use the Utopia or the Diamond R. I am leaning toward the Diamond R or possibly this one as they seem to be easier to install. Also does the Diamond R come with the pillow top look? It would be nice if it matched my stock seats.....thanks. http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_ID=42&Category_ID=32&manufacturer_ID=6&product_ID=15939&related=short
  8. I purchased a pair of E3's at the end of last season. I'm having the local dealer install them. Is $200 a fair price if I supply the tires? Kevin
  9. I was able to install the arm rests I got from Snaggletooth (Thanks Mike, I'll buy ya a cup of coffee sometime). I used a U-Bolt around the passenger grab bars through the upper portion of the bracket. I needed to cut down the length of the U-bolts. After I installed them, I covered the nylon locking nut with an acorn nut to avoid potential damage to the seat. The lower part of the bracket needed to be attached to an "extender". I used a piece of plumber's tape (left over from garage door opener install) and bolted it to the arm rest bracket. I them exchanged the seat mounting bolt with a longer one. The saddle bags are very tight to put on. I will try the ideas from my earlier post today when I get home from work on Wednesday. Doreen and I took a short ride around town and does she love them!!! We can not wait to get on the highway. As per Rule #1, here are some photos. Dave
  10. I wan't to purchase the Kuryaken Long Horn highway pegs but I don't know what clamps size to order. I want to install on the engines guards just in front of the front floor boards. ANyone know for my 07 RSTD? Thanks:doh:
  11. I have finally got my 1987 replacement engine taken apart to install the Vmax cams. I decided to pull the heads and do a valve job. The seller said it had about 40k miles on it and it looks very good inside. The manual says to install new valve oil seals when reinstalling the valves. These little guys are almost $12 each and there are 16 of them! Anybody have experience or opinion about reusing these oil seals?
  12. I finally installed my gauge set from Ponch. The actual install went pretty smooth, and took me about 5 hours. My hat is off to Ponch for his great work on this kit. First, I didn't want my needles to be orange, so I decided to disassemble the gauges and paint the needles black. This turned out to be a hassle, but I prevailed. Upon taking them apart, I broke one of the glasses. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3819.jpg You can't buy the glass by itself, nor did I want to purchase another set of gauges, so I went to Lowe's and bought a small sheet of glass, and a glass cutter. It wasn't easy to do, but I did it, and you can't tell the difference. Here are the gauges after I painted them. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3821.jpg Here are some pics from the install. I won't go into all of the details, as several writeups have already been posted here. Yes, cutting the dash has a pretty large pucker factor...lol. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3822.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3824.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3825.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3827.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3828.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3830.jpg So far, I have no leaks, and everything is working great! Thanks again to Ponch, for making it easier. I made one additional mod that I really had to think about, before cutting another hole, but I went ahead and did it... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3831.jpg
  13. Need pictures and instructions if anyone has them.Thanks.
  14. If you are looking for a free photo editing program you can find one here. (I have several programs but I like how this one functions.) www.giveawayoftheday.com On that site is a full program that you can download and install and have a full working copy. The only catch is that you have to download and install it within the time shown on the screen. If you wait till later to install it won't work. There is a different program every 24 hrs. Not sure if this site was posted before...if so ooops!!! Keith
  15. I find that my full face Bell works fine in the winter but get's awfully hot in the summer time. Anyone have either of these HJC helmets. Bike Bandit has the FS-3 on clearance sale, I really like the idea of running either a visor or a shield. That being said, I'm wanting to install a J&M headset in whatever I get with little to no cutting on anything on the inside. Also, how is the noise? Also might look at a Nolan N42/N43. Same kinds of questions.
  16. Hi: Has anyone ever asked (or told) their dealer about installing the dyna 3000 and whether or not there were any warranty issues with this? Normally,.. I may just go ahead and install something like this but I have had some warranty issues recently and received some comments from Yamaha that led me to believe something like this may void the warranty.
  17. I don't have factory fitted CB on my Venture (different laws in Oz)but have Ed-Sets for helmets, and Bill Morphy at Mic-mutes told us how to get around the "no CB" problem and install the mic-mutes too. My question is: How could we install portable (hand held) CB unit on the handlebar of my bike, to hook up to intercom system?????? Can anyone recommend good ones? Then later on would look to have CB set up (linked) on Quicksteps bike for rider to rider communication????
  18. Quickstep is trying to install an alarm for me and is asking "where" is the best place to put the unit? It measures about 4" x 21/2" It's a Chatter Box alarm from CruiserCustomising. AND where is the starter relay?????:crying: I have one very p***'d off Quickstep here.
  19. Has anybody installed a tach on an RSV. I had a first gen venture before and other bike also and always had a tach. The bike fills bare without one. I guess I'm from old school just have to have a tach. Anyway does anyone have one and can post pictures of it. I've looked in catalogs but just not sure what to get and what it would look like. We don't have to many bike shops here in Canada that carry to many accessories in stock so that I can have a look at one. And where is the best place top install it.
  20. Hi there, can anyone recommend a retrofit for the rear air shock and compressor system for the first gen bikes?.... mine is toast and I think I want to just install a quality monoshock and chuck all the old components. thanks for any advice Gary
  21. Has anyone tried the levelers for the RSV. I have not seen any picture of what the bike looks like with them. And what you think of them once you have install them on your bike.
  22. Got my Kumho mounted on the wheel today.Tomorrow I will install it on the bike. Can hardly wait for the test ride.
  23. Just a off-beat curiosity ... Wondering if anyone who has had the I-basket swap done has discovered that they didn't actually get an I-basket, but something else (like an 'H' or?) even tho the dealer was supposed to put in an I-basket. I started thinking about this because of the variations of "the I-basket worked" versus "the I-basket didn't work" and anything in-between. I will be pulling my basket (and probably my hair) out this winter just to confirm this. oh yea ... can't do the hair...it's already all gone

    kumho

hi folks i will be changing out the bfg for a kumho in the morning. finaly wore the bfg down to the wear bars ( just over 30,000 miles ). funny thing is the edges still look like new. kaby is coming over in the am to help. ponch will also be here to help me install one of his gauge sets. i am a lucky man to have these two great vr members help me with this little project. i will be looking at a avon corbra to install on the front soon. i installed a metzeler 880 just before going the '08 international rally last year. by my notes i got 22,000 miles on it. i realy like the 880 ( have got great service & no handling issuses with it) but will give the avon a try. best reguards don c.
  25. The horns on our bike are pathetic. I've put off replacing them, but the other day I really wanted to give someone a blast, so now is the time to replace the OEM horns. I've done a seach and read several good threads about how to wire Stebel air and electromagnetic horns. I'd like to go electro because I think they may be easier to install than the nautilus. Please tell me if I'm wrong on that. I'm seriously considering putting these on our 84 VR: http://www.bikerhiway.com/stebel-magnum-motorcycle-horns-dual-tone-chrome-p-280.html http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y35/Tony1M/chromehorns.jpg Any first gen folks have these on their bike? If so, what do you think of them? Will they fit on the same brackets where the OEM horns are? (That is, can you just remove the OEM horns and install the new ones on the very same OEM brackets?) If you have these on your bike, please post some photos of your installation. Thanks for any information. Tony
