  1. Hi, I recently moved to sunny Arizona, and wonder if anyone who is hot weather savvy can make some recommendations as far as helmets, jacket, boots that work best in this heat. I haven't biked in years, but expect to have a Gen 1 Venture Royale very soon, and have no gear as of yet. I'm especially concerned about helmets that won't toast the old noggin. I'm hoping to find something that protects well, but allows some cool air to pass through. I'd also like to wire the helmets to work off the intercom/radio system. Although leather looks great, not sure if it is the best answer for warm weather. Experienced comments would be helpful. Lastly, does anyone know where to find reasonably priced riding gear in the Phoenix area? Thanks in advance for all your help! Joe in Chandler
  2. I went to the Fayetteville, AR rally this weekend and found my temp guage reading about 1/8" from the RED zone while at an idle. A little too close for comfort, in my openion. The outside temperature was about 82 degrees. I would like to see it stay about half way into the GREEN. Am I asking for too much?
  3. Anyone have any idea how hot it gets where the mufflers join the stock pipes? I put some permatex 1B form a gasket on and I'm wondering if it's going to burn away... 400F limit. Thanks, gp
  4. I am attempting to upgrade the glass fuse box to a plastic Buss type. I read a thread awhile back where one of the members did this, but of course I cannot now find it. Here is my issue. The original glass fuse block isolates the incoming power for each circuit, ie, headlight, turn, brake, ignition etc.. The replacement block has one incoming terminal for all outputs. There is no way to isolate the incoming power for each circuit. I determined that with the exception of the accessory circuit, the remaining circuits are all hot once the ignition is switched to the on position. The accessory circuit is hot (not surprisingly) once the key is turned to ACC. I could isolate the Accessory circuit with those individual rubber blade type fuse sockets and run the remaining circuits through the new block. My thought was to simply strip the wires, wind them together solder them to a heavier gauge wire and terminate at the hot terminal on the new block. I am hesitant to this because somewhere along the line I thought I read that there was a reason each of the circuits has its own individual hot feed in the original glass fuse box, in particular the lighting circuit. I don’t want to fry anything and somehow I think my plan is to easy. Any ideas out there?
  5. Just thought I would let you know that Alice and I went to Hot Springs last week and got married. We stayed at the Williams House Bed and Breakfast and she furnished our wedding arrangements. Cathy was the owner and she was a terrific hostess. We got married Aug 1 at 9 a.m. I told Cathy about the VentureRiders and she said if any of you wanted to come and stay, she would give a 10% discount on the room, Monday thru Thursday. She said she couldn't give the discount on the weekends. It is a beautiful home that was built in 1890 and it is full of antiques. We stuck our neck out, after I had talked to her on the phone, and i can honestly say, I don't think we could've picked a better place. Cathy said you might have to remind her who the Ventureriders are, since she doesn't ride bikes, and if that don't work, just mention Mike and Alice, surely she will remember us LOL!! I picked at her the whole time we were there.
  6. Is this anyone here? I scanned it from the July 2008 Hot Bike Baggers Magazine.
  7. Hey Folks: Your thoughts if you please...Here in Ole Virginia it has been about 90 +/- 2 or 3 degrees...So I have noticed that the engine case really gets HOT during summer riding...Yesterday we did a ride of about 200 miles and of course the heat from the engine is something I have become accustom to....Today however I made a short 20 mile trip to a local motorcycle shop...spent about 1/2 hour there and rode back.....parked the bike....about 1 to 1 1/2 hours later I decided to go our and cover the bike...I always check the engine case by hand to see if to HOT to put on a cover..(condensation thing)...anyway...Motor was still very warm...I could put my hand on the side, but could not leave there for long....Still pretty warm after almost two hours.... THOUGHT: If oil is gets this hot during short run....What about a LONG summer ride ?..It CAN NOT be good for the engine?....Like most on this site I have never heard the fan kick on...DOES is give anyone else "pause" that these motors get this HOT...Just a thought....I see a lot of mile by a lot of folks...with NO mention of engine temp problems...Again just a thought.... George In Virginia....
  8. And then there is reality! Next Sunday she who must be obeyed and I are off to Chicago and back on route 66, nearly 5000 miles. Bike has about 3700 on it so will get engine oil change Saturday. Will also get stearing bearings checked. However, here in the desert it get b...dy hot! Should I get radiator or other coollent put in and if so where? As you can tell I am a mechanic's dream! Given that we are both "cuddly" what should the suspention be set at front and rear, also given that we will have "luggage" with us? Anything else I should get done/checked on the bike? Lastly, mundane I know, how does the CB work? Just turn to channel ? and transmit? :detective:Kiorana123
  9. I have been noticing that my key is getting hot, hot enough that when I put it in my pocket after a ride, it will get my attention.. Is this a sign that the switch is going bad???

    50 mpg (US)

I don't understand this at all, but in several trips on my 87 VR I have gotten 50+ mpg several times, and just not one tank but several successive ones. Generally I run at 40 mpg. Couple of theories? 1. Maybe fuel without ethanol makes a difference. 2. Seems to do better when the weather is HOT. 3. Clearly riding at 45 - 50 mpg, nice and sedately makes a difference, but that much? 4. Head/tail wind? I know this will drive Greg in London nuts, but it is the facts.
  11. It's going to be a hot one. Get your cooling vests out. Triple digits this weekend.
  12. I am bummed out I thought I had a VENTURERIDER patch and I can not find it. Found VENTURER patch and 2 pins but no VENTURERIDER,(wuz up wit dat) Was going to have it sown on my vest at the Laughlin River Run tomorrow. I am just going to have to look in boxes in the storage unit or maybe its still in Minnesota. We hate having our junk all over the place. OH well I will get happy in the same clothes I have gotten bummed in. I will be in LAUGHLIN tomorrow if their are any members here going to be there let me know and we can meet up. LRR started on Wednesday and ends Sunday. Yesterday was my 1st time for the run. Its kinda neat in a biker sorta way. Lots of great vender's and more of them then at STURGIS. The women they hire for the DEMOS are HOT, HOT, HOT I mean "SMOKIN HOT". I have seen some good looking people at other rally's but these women are SMOKIN. I will post pictures on Sunday when I get back. But not of the eye candy PG you know. I did not make it to the Arizona side and hope to Saturday if not there is always next year. Thanks for the listen.........................Ron
  13. Hi. I've bought a non running XVZ1200, 83 model, and have started rebuilding it. I bought a new battery/plugs etc to try and fire it up but it turns over way to slowly. When I press the start button the battery level just drops right down? I've also noticed the starter solenoid gets red hot when the engine's turning overhttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley24.gif I burned my fingers on the terminalshttp://www.yamahaventureclub.co.uk/forum//smileys/smiley35.gif, that's how hot it gets.
  14. Now that I have my Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 jacket, I need to get a pair of hot weather pants. Any body have any suggestions? By the way--Why do they call them a "PAIR" of pants and you only get one???
  15. :mo money:I am looking at buying a hot weather jacket. So far I am looking at the Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 Mesh Jacket and the Tourmaster Draft-Air Mesh Jacket. The Motorcycle Super store has a great price on these. Anyone have any experience with these jackets and this store?
  16. As mentioned in the subject line.... My nice chrome mufflers on my 84 Venture got extremely hot awhile back and the chrome got a blue tint to it. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how do you get the blue off the chrome and restore it to the bright chrome finish?
  17. I told you that I was busy on Saturday building a base for a hot tub. Got it all installed and warmed up. Got all the chemicals adjusted right and tried it out tonight for the first time. I had one when we lived in Dallas but forgot how much I enjoyed it. Sitting out there with light snow flurries and 12 degrees with the spa temp steady at 101 F and a hot cup of coffee....a little bit of heaven in the frozen north. I feel more relaxed than I've been in months. OH...and ONE MORE THING. Come maintenance day here...there will be NO pond monster in the spa. Some of you will KNOW what I'm talking about.
  18. Stopped in at Marcarl's today to say hello and to check on Scamper. Little Scooter was doing good, the Blonde was partially naked, but Scamper WAS naked!!!! All in all, things were looking good at Carl's, waiting on some parts to come in and for good weather to arrive. Bought some of Carl's HOT! pepperettes. Very tasty indeed. But holy crap, ate them on the way home, didn't have a drink with me, had to stop at the side of the road to eat some snow(no it wasn't yellow) to cool my mouth off. Futher down the road, stopped at a store for a cold drink and an ice cream:fnd_(16):. After consuming both drink and ice cream, my mouth and tongue felt better. All I can say is if you want to eat Carl's HOT pepperettes, better have a cold drink with you. Oh, did I mention, that they were the best that I've ever had. :ice_thy-vi101212101CARL
  19. Or at least SPRING. I'm really tired of winter now. I know that some of you are getting some really bitter cold right now. Bad enough here, 9 F right now but also 27 MPH winds gusting up to 40 MPH. Makes it pretty nasty. Got just a covering of snow last night and the wind drives it right through you. Picked up a used hot tub a couple of weeks ago and spent all day yesterday building a base to sit it on. Digging 3 ft. deep holes in this ground was not all that much fun. Got it done though and got the hot tub on it. Filled and warming right now and plan to sit out in the 4 degree or so temps this evening and ENJOY it. Just need to run to the store and pick up some Baily's for my coffee.
  20. You should have told everyone that you were here for New Years and you were the photographer Oh by the way....... here is a photo...... of Beer30..... in the hot tub...... with me,........ I just dont want to .....speculate........ what he was doing..... with.... his hands...... under the water:no-no-no::no-no-no: :rotfl:
  21. I've ordered Hot Grips ( from hotgrips.com) for my 06 RSV and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the installation. My snowblower came with a pair already on as a stock feature, and when I found out that they make them for cycles I thought it would be a good idea.
  22. I'm looking for suggestions or solutions for increasing rider cooling behind the lower fairings on my 05 Midnight Venture. I believe the lower fairing causes some back draft of hot air across my chins after passing through the radiator. Has anyone found a solution for this comfort issue? I've seen a few modifications to Goldwings for rider comfort such as the addition of attached air deflectors on the outside edge of the fairing to direct airflow into the area immediately behind the lower fairing to break up this "hot air backflow". Any suggestions?
  23. Now that I have my venture on the road, I'm noticing a lot of heat. Heat comes out of the side covers, right onto the backs of my knees, and the clutch cover is so hot I have to use the highway pegs. The temp guage is ok, so i'm guessing this is normal. what do you guys do? :225::225::225:
  24. HI all, I need some help, last nite whilst I was out for a ride, the heat gauge was around the red mark most of the time. I have lots of coolant. so I am guessing that I need a new thermostat. I have never done it before and don't even know where it is. I am more than willing to give it a go changing it. I eas hopeing that someone here has a step by step for me to follow. Thanks Gord. P.S. what other things would cause it to run so hot?
