I know a lot has been posted about the Stebel Nautilus Air Horn. I took a few pictures of my installation on my RSTD and wanted to share them. Stebelhorn1.jpg shows how I mounted the relay under the right side cover next to the coolant overflow tank. Stebelhorn2.jpg shows the wiring according to the wiring diagram included with the horn package. Stebelhorn3.jpg shows the brackets I made from aluminum bar stock. Aluminum is easy to drill and bend. Not shown in the picture is the slight bend I made in each bracket to get the horn to sit back closer to the frame. I used a large adjustable wrench to hold the brackets while I hand-bent them. Bend away from you on the end that bolts to the original horn bracket, bend towards you on the other end. The brackets are hidden behind the horn so they don't have to look pretty. I bought the Stebil air horn & wiring kit last winter. I plan on putting it on this w/e. Where do I locate the Relay? - I mean the physical location, not electrically. craigr

Hi, I can not find the answer on any of the threads. I have purchased the Stebel Nautilus compact horn and an Amanet preassembled wiring kit. I installed the wiring kit as described but when I power the bike the horn starts sounding immediately. Somehow the wiring is not correct. The description says that I should connect one wire from the set to the power wire of the old horn. There are two wires connected to the old horn, a red one and a brown one, and when I connect the wire set to either one the result is the same. What am I doing wrong? Is there anyone out there who purchased the Amanet Plug and Play wiring harnes modell SNPNP successfully? Thanks, Robert:crying:

Ordered 2 horns. Question, I am going to mount them on the rear bolt holding the passenger floorboards. Can I splice the wires from one relay to both horns? The relay is 30 amps. I was thinking of wireing one horn and spliceing the wires from that horn to the other horn. Hope you can understand what I mean. tew47

Ok, the last thing I have to do on my wiring is find the wire from the factory horn buttom so I can locate it to use it as a trip for the relay on my new LOUD horns. I already removed my old horns and built a new harness for the new ones but that may have killed the old circuit. When I am probing the wires in the handlebar harness I'm not finding a hot one when I push the horn buttom. And yes....the key is on. Thought I might ask before I have to tear down the switch control to see what it is.

I have an '09 RSV and I can hear what sounds like ignition interference in the headsets. Also, the CB goes ito the receive mode when I blow the horn and sometimes without the horn blowing and no one talking to me. This creates a loud static noise in the headsets. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi, I just purchased the Stebel Compact Nautilus horn to replace the horrible stock tweet on the side of the bike. The horn arrived in good order but with very unclear installation instructions. I don't know how to wire this one up. The package included a 4 way plug and I see a plus and minus on the bottom of the thing. I hooked it up to the two stock wires but that only produces a strange vibrating noise. Not good. Is there anyone out there who can provide me with clear instructions on how to wire this up? Yes, I said ‘distraction’. First of all let me say that I use my scoot for more then just unwinding on pleasurable scenic rides along quiet country back roads... it’s also transportation. As a result I often find myself rolling across the big slab to get from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ and like you have seen my share of “S##T” (careless driving). I don’t have to tell you folks about the attentiveness required for riding motorcycle but the fact of the matter is that the same attentiveness is required no matter what you’re driving! The difference is that if something goes wrong we are the one’s who will get hurt regardless of fault. Riding motorcycle commands your attention. On the other hand a car will conveniently allow the opportunity to read a map, fix your hair, talk or text on the phone, eat your breakfast, tend to the kids... all while boot’n down the highway at breakneck speeds, need I go on! The two don’t mix and that’s why it’s nice to have a Weapon for ‘Mass Distraction’ It’s nice to know that we have some options for those times when defensive driving just isn’t enough... gosh I love my air horn! I have the ‘Bad Boys’ mounted under the fairing and my only regret is that I didn’t install them sooner. My thanks to the people who make this product, it has helped me more then once! Having said that... I must apologize to the gentleman who undoubtedly soiled his pants after he wandered into my lane while chatting on the phone. Judging by his reaction he must have thought a freight train was coming, he pulled back so quickly that he overshot his lane on the other side before finding center of his own. Yes I’m sorry alright, sorry that he bothered to go out for a drive and leave his senses parked at home! Did I mention that I love my air horn! ... Now if we could only come up with something for the tailgaters!!! -
I installed an air horn on my VR today. Took it for a spin and I noticed the turn signals didn't work. If I turn on the hazard switch and turn it off again, then the signals work as they should. Till I turn them on again anyway. When I got back home I noticed that if I leave the hazards on and then turn on the signals the horn goes off. I'll have to undo what I did before tomorrows ride. -
Here's the deal: About got smacked by a truck coming over on me the other day. Had my adult daughter on the back so didn't want to do big time evasive maneuvers. The cager (Ford F150) started coming left. I made eye contact with him in his mirror. He knew I was there but he was bigger and kept on coming. I got on the brakes and the wonderful dual tone factory horns (what a joke Yamaha played on us). Cager came on over, shot me the bird, and continued on up the road. I got home, found a Fiam horn I had. I disconnected my chrome horn down by my right foot and connected the Fiam. Hit the button and only heard a slight bump sound. :fiddle:So, I disconnected the front horn behind the fairing and hit the button again. Same result. Took the Fiam and connected it straight to a battery. Perfect loud sound. I guess I'm getting too much voltage drop to use it on the Venture, but wouldn't think so. Have an identical Fiam horn on my V Star 650 and it works fine. Anyone else try this?

Does anybody have a horn cover laying around that will fit my 89? A needy person helped themselves to one of mine while the bike was parked this weekend.

First of all I’ve got to say that I love this site and all the ideas, opinions and constructive criticism that flow through it. Some of the bantering that goes on is pretty funny too… like what color is the fastest, lol! ... Isn’t that silly, we all know that Black Cherry is the fastest and that 2nd Gen rules! So I’ve been wanting a new ‘Do you see me now’ horn because as you know stock horns just don’t make the cut. Stock horns are nice when you want to politely get someone’s attention without shouting but that’s about it. Having said that my goal was to find an alternate location for a horn, install a separate switch and keep the stock horn operational. I lucked out on a Bad Boy horn for $29. but couldn’t find a decent switch for a fair price so here’s what I did… I came across a left hand control cluster off an old Kawasaki, it’s almost identical to one on the venture. Long story short I cut the horn switch off the bottom of the cluster, made a separate switch out of it and installed it under my existing horn switch. Now I can use either horn (or both) and the switch is in reach of my thumb. Although it was a tight fit I made a little bracket and mounted the horn under the front faring to the left of the cassette player/amp (black box). Being under the faring the horn is still quite loud and its right up front where I want it. The horn is on a separate fused circuit through a relay wired directly to the battery. The other thing I did (with some help from our tech library) was a headlight mod. I now have the Tri Bar headlight with passing lamps to match. I’ve upgraded the headlight bulb to an ultra and the passing lamp bulbs to the PIA H-3. There is not much more I want to do to the bike besides ride it... although I do like the idea of swapping out the cassette player for some gauges... does it ever end!?! Though I have split the front fairing many times, I cannot remember whether there would be enough room in there to install a Stebel horn; could anyone enlighten me whether this would be possible? Also is the second horn inside the fairing? If yes that would be great. That is because I do not really think the Stebel horn belongs/fits in place of the stock horn on the right side. The Stebel unit is too large to fit, with real close proximity to hot exhaust pipes, especially the electrical wire connectors...... I installed a Stebel under the seat of my 08 Triumph Tiger and what a blast:yikes: !!!!!. This horn rocks:p. My next question has to do with GPS. I have found a Garmin 2720 for $100, so I bought it. The text-to-speech will got thru the RSV audio system thru the AUX input which is split to presently allow Sirius radio and a small MP3, which I do not play at the same time:smilies6:. If I have the GPS text-to-speech connected and the GPS on, will the text-to-speech still be audible while I have the Sirius playing into the AUX input also ? Could having both plugged in and on (Sirius + GPS voice) induce any damage to the audio system such as overload and such ? If having both plugged into AUX and turned on for music and directions is not recommended, I guess I would have to have the GPS connected to a seperate mono (one ear) earplug/helmet mini speaker. Has anyone installed a Bad Boy or Stebel horn inside the lower fairing or in the front cowling on a second gen? I have the plain jane Bad Boy and don't want to mount it on the side by the engine. I thought it would fit in where the factory horn is but that looks tight. I haven't put much effort inot it yet as I just got the horn. Hoping someone has already done it and save me a bunch of time trying different locations. Mounting it on 2007 Midnight Venture. Thanks, John -
Got a funny one. Installed a brand new set of horns, Bad Boys to exact, put them in the faring, right side, right behind the grill and tied them in with cable ties, So far so Good. Wired them according to specks. Used the original horn wire for the primary side of the relay, ran a new line from the accessory post to the secondary side of the relay, then to the horn and then to ground. I did that right EH? Well so I thought as well. Tested it and boy does that give off some sound, real nice, all done, on to the next project. In the process I needed to fire up the engine. Turned on the ignition, pushed the kill switch to run, pulled in the clutch lever and pushed the start button, and low and behold there wasn't a soul in front of the scoot anymore (not that there were any to start with), the sound coming from the horns was totally unexpected and a way too loud for a confinded space, but the scoot was running, so glory be. had to shut all that racket off so I turned the ignition off and all was quiet, good so far, at least that worked, but now to try that again, let's see,,,carefully turn on the ignition, yep ok there,,,hit the start button and WWoww, them there horns done wake a person right up from down under,,,,turn the ignition off again and am now perplexed,,,,well ,,,,,took out the fuse and through the test all was quiet,, what a blessing, I was having thoughts of needing a new radio just to be able to hear my tunes over all the constant noise,,,and somebody said to put two off those thingies on my machine???????are they nuts,,,,,,,not on mine if they're going to be going off constantly. Went to the laundry to wash off last years leftovers and when I got back I thought I had enough guts to try that fuse once more. Sure enough, put the fuse in, carefully turned on the ignition,,,you never know eH,,,,,,,and then hit the start button,,,,now it got me totally confused,,,,everything worked perfect,,,,,now how am I going to find out what went haywire. Three days later,,, it's still good,,,,,,,but if you hear someone coming down the street with his horn going full blast,,, get the coffee ready,, it'll be me and I'll be looking for some help

I have a Bad Boy horn (plain jane). Has anyone installed one (or the Stebel Nautilis) in the Lower front fairing? I was thinking of replacing the stock horn on the lower left. I had a quick look today and it looks tight. Bike is still in the shed. Tons of snow between shed and driveway. Thanks, John

I'm currently in Process of purchasing a Horn for my new Ride and i stumbled over this Stebel Compact Truck Horn. This isn't for a Truck but the Frequency is nearly from a Truck Horn... I found Sound Bites for different Stebel Horns here on this Website http://www.valkmotorparts.com/products.php IMHO, this sounds very good. Might even give me one or another Laugh. I'm seriously considering this Horn.

when i hit the button for the horn the one up front doesnt sound like its activating all the way. at night i can see my headlight dimming everytime i hit the horn. the one on the right bottom seems to do fine any helo?

I need to change by brake pads. Now I would like to know what kind I should purchase. I have seem several types advertised. What is remommended? Organic, Kelvar etc. I know on my 33 plymouth I used the metallic dustless pads but I haven't seen anything advertised for the bikes but Organic and kelvar on ebay. The ones I have now seem to be ok as far as dust but I know the back pad only lasted 1 year or about 8k. I use and believe in the friction zone and perhaps that is why the rear wore out so fast but I don't care I like the fricion zone expecially in this Houston traffic. Any suggestions/links to which pads I should consider? BTY Just ordered the Stelbel horn and Carbon One bracket to replace my current horn. thanks

I have a Stebel Horn on my 2006 Midnight aand it sounded like a strangled cheicken at the end of last year. Lowel at the Pork in the Pines suggested to squirt a shot of sicone spray in the intake and it was better but not like it was when I put it on. I have been looking at different sights for a new one and was wonderif someone has a site that can beat $36.00 plus shipping? If so please share with me. I also thought of contacting Strebel but I don't how to get ahold of them to see if they will do someting as far as warrentee. Any suggestions? BE NICE!!!!! LOL Steve aka Bubber

Well, I was in Woodland Park, CO a couple of weeks back getting my youngest nephew married off (I got to be the holder of the shotgun). While there, On top of seeing the sights, I shot ColoNavy a couple of PM's and did a little sight seeing. This of course involved seing a few of our favorite sights, primarily the summitt of Pike's Peak. We drove the Dodge up to the top. It was arond 9:00 AM up there when we pulled in. The air temp was 34 degrees according to my truck's computer. The chill index was 19. Nice, brisk wind blowing out of the south. We did our usual lookin' around the top, snappin' pictures as we went. Then we came back around to the sign by the summitt house, the one with the name of the mountain and the elevation. Now everyone has their picture taken in front of the sign, it's expected. I remembered that I just happened to have one of my tubas in the back of the truck, momma had the camera. I also happened to have a Kelly mouthpiece in the horn, it's made of Lexan, that means it won't stick to moist lips in freezing temps. I need help on installing air horns on my 2005 Venture. I have taken out the two horns and I need to know which wires to hook up to the horn wires to make the compressor work.

Communication Pros: This goes out to all those folks that use a headset mostly all of the time...I have the ICM HS-G45 for a half helmet...has worked great for me for the way I need it too....I normally ONLY use them when riding in groups and need comm. for blocking...directions...etc..occasional comm during ride with buds on other bikes...My wife DOES NOT have any headset... HOWEVER...when I use them...I have this concern...Stereo, Sound Quality, CB, Music from Radio, or Aux outlet and MP3...All OK...BUT when I push the HORN button, I get static through the earpieces....I have the IC volumn down to 0 because I have no need for IC use...Any thought or comments would be welcome....of course ONLY problem is when I use the HORN...I have the stock horn and no others attached...
