1. I found a pretty neat motorcycle oil filter cross reference for most bikes. I find it interesting that the Honda 1500 & 1800 use the same filter as our Ventures. It coincides with my latest acquisition of 8 factory Honda 1500 filters. I shouldn't have to buy any oil filters for at least 8 years - http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/FilterXRef.html
2. Alright darn it....! I read it in the owners manual too so I know this site is right on but c'mon... really? Oil type/grade If temperature does not go below 40 F (5 C) Yamalube 4-cycle oil/SAE 20W40 type SE If temperature does not go above 60 F(15C) SAE 10W30 type SE I live in c o l o r a d o .... it is often above 60F and often below 40F (especially in the hills) So what now? 10W-40? Stupid question I know but in all my years of working for Toyota and Honda (cars) I've never seen anything like that. Hmmmpph.... LOL Many thanks to Dano for the help earlier... pics to come Dano, I promise. That way you can run this FNG through the ringer too.... LOL Kelly
3. For those who have thrown a leg over a Honda Valkyrie Interstate how would you compare it to the RSV. I've seen a few go pretty cheap on ebay.
4. Yeah, so it's not a Venture... But I can't figure it out. I put together a go cart for my kids, using a single seater frame, and a Honda 5.5hp engine I got from Craigslist. I got everything together and buttoned up and apparently it's a Naskart. You can only turn left!!! If you make a right turn, the engine just shuts off! You can turn left all day long (which the kids are getting bored with) but turning right means I have to walk across an acre of land to pull start it again. Here's what I've checked, feel free to make suggestions... Oil level is good. (Thought there might be an oil-level kill switch that was tripping when oil shifted to the left side) Gas tank is full. Cleaned the jet on the carb, and put new gaskets on it. (Yes, I'm running SeaFoam) Checked kill switch. (Thought maybe the wires could be grounding out on turns) I'm running out of ideas (and tired of walking across the field.) I'm open to suggestions!
5. So...I know you guys said buy it at Honda... Honda Car Dealer or Honda Motorcycle Dealer???
6. An article I wandered across today instead of actually working. It stated that the new wing wont be built for at least a year or 2 so they are in a holding pattern over at Honda as well. http://blog.ridermagazine.com/2010/05/12/new-honda-gold-wing-news/ Brian
7. I just spotted this on my local bike club forum. http://www.knoxvillebikerally.com They think it's to replace the Honda Hoot which was cancled last year due to the economy down turn.

Ok, I have my asbestos britches on, so don't hold back... I love my RSV. It is the best scooter I have ever owned. But sometimes I want to run down to the store or some other errand, and I don't want to feel like I need to launch the Queen Mary II. I want to jump on a smaller bike and do what I need to do. I had a '97 vmax that was fine for this purpose but it was after all a vmax and I just could not keep myself from running it pretty hard. No self control I guess. I really like sport touring bikes. The BMW 1200, Honda ST, Yamaha FJR etc., but they too are more bike than I want. I no longer want or need the crotch rocket style bikes either. This is all leading up to your thoughts on the newly USA released Honda NT700V. I love this bike. I had the chance to sit on one today and I think I am sold. It has been very popular across the pond for several years. It is 300lbs + lighter than the RSV. It is a FI 700cc vtwin. I like the ergonomics/sitting position. It is still a little tall for me but I think I could live with it. I don't really see anything from Yamaha that is close to it. What do you all think of it???
9. I was curious to see the variety of first bikes was, and got a pretty diverse bunch of responses. A few of you listed other bikes you've had, so this seems like a good time to re-visit this question, and list the bikes you've had, and which ones hold a special place in your heart. Lets start at the beginning: 2 1/2 horse mini-bike 3 1/2 horse mini-bike Honda Trail 50 Yamaha MX80 Honda XL350 (first street-legal bike) Honda XL500 Yamaha XT500 (stripped for off road use only) Honda CB750F (79, bike was stolen from me) Honda CB750F (80) Kawasaki KZ1000 MK2 Honda XR600 (dirt bike) Honda CB700sc Suzuki GSX 600 Yamaha XVZ 1300 (87 standard) Honda CB900 custom I'd have to say the second CB750F was my favorite bike. It was fast for the time, handled well, again, for the time, and it was just that time of my life that I was truly in love with my bike (early twenties). Started out in Ohio, moved down to the Florida Keys and rode it year 'round. I was so broke I rode the rear tire until it went flat on US1 just south of Miami.... Ruined the aluminum casings when Cardsound road was flooded, and I ran about 4 miles through 4" of saltwater. Saltwater, heat and aluminum don't mix well. I used and abused that bike, but I did love her......sigh...... The CB700sc is a great bike, and I've owned it since '98, but since I've got the Venture, I don't ride it much anymore. The Suzi 600 and the Honda 900 don't really count. They're both in need of a little TLC and probably won't even be roadworthy until next year. That's a list of my two wheeled relationships, some true loves, and some love-hate relationships, but all memorable. Maybe next time I'll list my favorite cages. Thanks for your attention.
10. How can Honda, Justify the price on their Goldwings? What so special about them that they are nearly twice the price of a Yamaha venture
11. Here is her story. I work for the city of Calgary, I have two other bikes, one is a VF1000k Honda that is in the early stages of restorations. and that where I start. I had sold my baby K5 BMW to finance my move to a new job in Calgary the move was over 3000miles fom Ontario, Canada. During the passing months working here I was going nuts:nanner: thinking I had no cycle transpotation.Just by chance; I was driving past this shop, and in the fenced compand all I could see was the back end of this white bike , well this went on for some time ( I thought it was a wreck) one day in May 09 I turned ito the yard and looked at her she was rough but all there (pics are here and hold on Yamaha owners). So I found the owner and he said secound gear was out of it I didn't care as when I was younger I pined for an Intercepter big block Honda I cound't aford. I bought her fixed it up, skipping second on the shift, Then after 4000 sum kilos 3rd dropped out so I stopped riding and went nuts over the Honda (engine out resto) Moving onto last December One of my co-workers dad has 2 Venture Royals one complete one (cracked frame reparable ) one is a 83 Green the other parts bike is Red both bikes full fairings and bags (red was running). So now I bought them and Have just today paid for a full super sevice $856.00, and boy she needed it, top to botom service, ten valve shims (wow) and I am so impresed with her she purrs so nice you all must be proud of your first gens. So there is one more saved Yanaha Here in Calgary, I will when I get the other bike home be offering parts to the group dirt cheap or free . Or a posible naked Drag racer?.. Thanks for letting me share , Mike Richard..
12. a friend of mine has 2 bikes. one paid for a 1988 goldwing. the other a 92 venture. now the loan company sent a repo man to the house. and his daughter of 21 was the only one home as hes in florida trying to get a job. the repo man said they where there to pick up one motorcycle. being as he took the venture with him about a month ago to florida. the only bike in there was the honda the repo man pushed the honda out of the garage. up on a flat bed truck tied it down and off he went with the honda. i told shelly his daughter to call the cops but she afraid that her dad will yell at her. i cant reach him . who knows where this bike went? the so called repo man gave a yellow paper for her to call the bank and they will inform her how to get the bike back?
13. i know this is a taboo question but here i go. i recently purchased a beautiful rstd 06 , i have been riding my entire life and have kept my honda vtx1800. i researched the whole darkside car tire thing before i tried it on the honda and i have to admit that i like it on a heavy low lean angle adult driven cruiser. the vtx has over 5ooo miles on the car tire on the rear and no issues except excellent wear and grip. my question is has anyone put one on a venture ? pro's or cons ? and please do not preach to me if you havent at least tried it. any intelligent input would be greatly appreciated.
14. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuyaVcqTgic]YouTube- honda choir[/ame] The new Honda Civic UK commercial is based around a chorus who create all of the sound effects with their mouths. It's amazing
15. I got a chance to sit on a new 2010 Honda Fury today. A friend stopped by to show it to me. He sold his HD Road King off and got this Honda recently. Honda definately took a different approach when they created this bike. It uses a 1300 VTX motor and made a very clean look above the motor. The stretched end and gas tank really made for a custom look, along with the 250 rear tire. I wasn't impressed with the puney car horn, but at least Honda did put Dunlop E3's on at factory. There wasn't any marking on the tank which made it hard to recognize at first. Neat looking machine, just not my style in my old age.....
16. http://www.1800lastbid.com/auction/listings/categories/index.cfm?category=806430895&ID=1 Looks like a honda dealer went out of business possible good buys
17. A year or so ago Cycle City, the Yamaha dealer closed it doors after being in bussness about 40 years. that really sucked as far as ordering any parts without going a fair piece out of town. Well this week I drive by the local Honda / Kawasaki dealer Burlington Cycle, and don't they have a new Yamaha sign up. Yup they have added Yamaha to there inventory. Burlington Cycle also have been there for many years, and are also great folks to deal with, so I am glad they were able to add the Yamha line to their store.
18. I did a few upgrades to my 87 standard, and one of them was to replace the clutches, and double up the clutch spring. It sure is annoying when you have a very respectable amount of horsepower, but can't use it because of slipping clutches. The new clutches and double springs certainly cured that, but now I'm a bit worried that I'll break something else. I tend to like to "play" with the horsepower from time to time, ( when you put the juice to it it'll either smoke the tire or pull the front end ) The initial thrill is over, so I've settled down a bit, but I wonder how strong the driveline is. Just curious. Everything seems fine, but I'd hate to screw up the rear diff, or tranny. Anyone have any input? 87 Venture Standard 85 Honda Nighthawk 700s 82 Honda 900 custom (resto. project)
19. I've been riding a Honda VTX 1300 for the last 5 years and a Honda Magna before that. Been thinking about one of these rolling lounge chairs for awhile now and finally broke down and bought an 09 RSV on the 11th of this month. Well, Ma nature decided to give north Ga. a 500 year flood 2 days later and it's been sitting in the garage every since. The skys cleared and we had a chance to christen her Thursday and Friday. Took off for western NC to find out what this recliner could do. Holy sport bike Bat Man! I had no idea a full dresser (other than a wing) would be so nimble. I think I'm in love with 3rd gear. What a wounderfull gear. pulling strong from around 30mph up to around 70mph. HOLY................. Of coarse I'm not saying anything Y'all dont know but DAYUM. I think I'm gona like this bike.
20. http://www.leftlanenews.com/honda-v4.html new Honda V4 1200cc sportbike with automatic transmission. I like the way it looks and the engineering.
21. I'll try to make this short, but allot happened in 6 hours at Columbia Power Sports Honda. My Dunlop 404 went bald two weeks ago after a long ride on the BRP. I was behind the eight ball and needed a tire installed yesterday. The Honda shop has free tire installation on Weds in Aug. Settled on the Elite III, they had one in stock. Showed up and waited a while before getting RSV on lift. New tire installed. The shop manager looks at the tire and tells me they accidently installed a 404. WHAT? My 404 didnt last long enough, I wanta Elite III. No problem. Bike goes back on lift. 404 comes off and I notice the guy struggling with the E III. Manager tells me the E III was shipped with packaging holding the side walls pinched together. They normally need to set them in the sun to soften them up before mounting. Another thing, it is a 80, not a 90, which hurts mounting also. They tried every trick in the book. Two hours later and a 2 mad Mechs, they gave up. OK, put a Vemon on. We only have that 404. OH Brother !!! No other options so they put the 404 back on rim. Set me back &132.00 OTD. I will say this. The Honda dealer has a very friendly staff and I even drove a simulator (cool). As last thread stated, talked to a SC HP biker and other salesmen. They only had good things to say about the RSV. So that was my day at the Honda shop. Next time Sleeperhawk and dave will have the honor. The good news, I'm headin for Vogel this morning. YEEEE- HAAAA
22. a friend of mine needs some help with his 99 1500 honda valk. he paid a honda shop a lot of money to clean his carbs and now his float needle valves will not seat , the mech. installed new needle valves and polished the seats but gas still leaks past , he said there is no way to adjust the floats ?? anybody know how to adjust the floats ? he told me today that a new set of carbs cost 1700.00 not installed . i need to help him get the Valk. running so i can out run him , i do not want to run him on his other bike , a m109r Susy , he came by the shop today to ask for help and show me the 109 after looking at the 109 i kinda tucked my tail , man that is a lot of bike ! Thom
23. Stopped at the local Honda shop today to get a filter (yama shop 70 miles away). They crossed to a Honda #15410-MFJ-D01 by way of a K&N 303. Does anyone know of a reason I shouldn't/couldn't use this filter. It appears to be a new number starting back in 2007. Looks to be the correct size, same as what's on my bike now. I've not been able to cross this on any of the referenced charts I've looked at. Dealer said the new goldwings are running this. If it's OK I'm thinking most of the cross ref. charts out there need an update. Helpful replies much appreciated .
24. found this today at a local dealor if anyone is interested i'm close enough to go and chack it out for you. http://www.hondaws.com/new_vehicle_detail.asp?sid=08774378X7K17K2009J6I25I47JPMQ3690R0&veh=38349&pov=1297971
25. Was told today by a friend that used to work for Harley and his wife still does, that Harley will have a water cooled V4 in 2010. Don't really care as I have a Honda trike but thought I would put it out there.
