  1. So Mama asks me to go up to the store and pick up a couple of things she needs. I didn't want to get out of the recliner, but she also mentioned Ice Cream. I moved.... On the way to the store I get behind a neat little Honda Trail 90. Mint condition. We both stop at the signal light on the main drag and wait. We get a green light and arrow. The Honda goes across the blvd, I make a left. The Honda gets to the other side of the 4 lanes and I'm about 20 feet behind him making the left and right between us a late model Toyota type flys thru the intersection doing about 40mph. Scared the living cr@p out of me. Missed the front end of the Suburban by 2 feet. If I had been in a hurry I'd have been laying next to Ponch. Not really sure I would have made it, and if the driver had hit the Honda he'd have killed him.... Whew!! Ice Cream tasted extra special tonight....
  2. Hi, I pick up my 2008 Venture S tomorrow! I am really looking forward to it. I will be picking it up in Canby, Oregon and riding to Tacoma, WA. I hope the weather holds. This is the second Yamaha I have owned. The first was a XV920J that had starter problems it's entire life, but it was fun to ride. I am moving to the Venture from a BMW K1200LT that I purchased new last year that just did not work out for me. The bike I am getting is bone stock so I am looking forward to reading about the types of add ons and modifications that are available. The first will be some type of GPS, I am sure there are many opinions and I welcome getting them.My other bikes are: 2005 Honda NRX1800EB (For Sale) 2009 BMW K1200LT (Soon to be gone) (2) 1983 Honda CB1000 Custom ( 1 for sale) 1981 Honda CB750K w/116 original miles (will be on market soon) 1975 Honda CB400F 1976 Honda CB400F 1977 Honda CB400F 1982 Honda XL185S Honda XR70 (Grandaughters) Honda TRX 90 (Grandaughters) I am in the prcess of thinning the herd. Steve
  3. Well, I had read about using Lemon Pledge on bikes at some other sites. I tried it today on the 06 RSV and behold, it worked great! I have been using Honda Spray Polish and hear that they are discontinuing it. (It worked great for me too.) I used the Pledge all over the bike including the windshield and it shines like it did when I saw it on the show room floor. Hey $3.00 a can beats $5.50 in my book any day! And it sure makes the bike smell good! I don't know if it will clean the bugs off like Honda Polish but, we will see. I also use Go-Jo hand cleaner (Creamy Type) on my other bikes windshield and it covers up or seems to remove all the little scratch marks and swirls in it that you see when riding into the sun. Just rub it on the windshield with my fingers and wipe it with a terry-cloth towel. Dog
  4. What a PITA!!!!! I went to the Yamaha Dealer to get fork oil... the instruction in the progressive spring set recommended 10 or 15 wt and specificallly advised against 20wt oil. All Yamaha had was 20 wt. nothing else! I ended up going to a honda dealership where they had 5 or 10 wt...no 15. So I bought the 10 wt Honda fork and shock oil....$9.00 for 1/2 litre!!!! (500 ml) That would be $3420 for a 50 gal (us) barrel!!!!
  5. Went after Honda Molybdenum? Grease yesterday. They didn't have any. What I got is "Yamalube Molybdenum Disulfide Grease" Extreme Pressure- Shear Stability- Water Resistant- in a 10 oz. squeeze tube for $6.50. For use where the "M Grease Symbol" is called out in the factory service manual. Is this same stuff as Honda Grease??? Good for shafts and such?? I'm thinking it is but wanted to check with the Pros.
  6. What do you do with old Bumper Cars? WHO KNEW? Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in a long time. There are seven of these little monsters floating around California, and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder vibration. Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750's, and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH (which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase).
  7. 1980 - 1982 Honda CB 900 Custom..........or 1983 Honda CB 1000 Custom. I told him that I would post this to see if any of you all knew of this bike for sale here in the Morehead,Ky general area, say 150-200 miles out or so. Perhaps you may have one ? Thank you in advance. I thought this would be the place to post such a question, since it is not Venture or Tour Deluxe or Gold-wing related. Fuzzy
  8. Hi All, Currently riding a 2001 Honda ST1100. I love some aspects of the bike, but my aging back isn't liking the riding position as much as it might when I was younger. Also, after about 200km, my lovely wife was somewhat 'sit disadvantaged' when she got off. So, I'm checking out the Venture. Around these parts, they seem to be a great deal compared to a GoldWing - and I've never warmed up to wings. Any one else make a similar change? Thanks all, Keith
  9. Tried out the Honda DN-01 today weird bike, nice looking but an automatic and really small? http://powersports.honda.com/street/crossover.aspx
  10. So I have been a Yamaha guy most of my life,160 Honda Dream,'66 Honda 450 and then a '70 XS650 but in '80 I bought a XS1100 Yamaha Special that I have ridden ever since. Been with the bike almost 31 years,it does the job, very reliable..low mileage 82000,so have many of you bought the Venture when they first came out and still have them? I have read horror stories of what po's have done to the XS's...if you are the orginal owner I would be interested in your thoughts as I might look into getting one.Just a maybe as a back up bike.
  11. Any VR/PGR from here going to Brandon Ms. tomorrow? I may actually get to go on this one. On a borrowed Honda Rebel.
  12. I really like what Honda did with this prototype.. Just wondering why they didn't use the 1800 VTX platform.. Although they are so close in size maybe they'll do both.. http://motorcyclemodificationz.com/gallery/motorcycle/honda-slammer-concept-motorcyclemodificationz-001.jpg http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/321/8913/Motorcycle-Article/Honda-Custom-Slammer--Switchblade--Furious.aspx
  13. I just picked-up a 1980 Honda CB 750 Custom, with only 19,000 miles. It's in great shape and it even came with original Hondaline Accessories - including a full fairing, saddlebags, and a trunk. I would like to get this bike tuned-up and in as tip-top shape as possible. Does anyone have any tips on great sites I could visit for this bike. My Venture questions and issues are all addressed here on this site. Now, I need something for this old Honda. I think that this CB 750 will will make for a pretty reliable second bike. Now, I just need to get as familiar with it as I am with my Venture. Thanks & Be Safe! Pete.
  14. Came across this article... http://www.cyclecanadaweb.com/articles/10634/ Honda is seeking a patent for a motorcycle seat belt in combination with an ejector seat.
  15. I know a lot of us have the 1.5" riser extensions on our RSV's and I don't think anyone has found a great replacement for the 2 rubber dampers that go between the handlebars and fairing to keep the fairing from rattling and flexing. I know some carve up the originals or force them in at some odd angle. I haven't had anything in mine in 2 years and was just going to leave it as is until last week when I found something that works well. I work at a Honda auto dealer and on the new Honda Crosstour there is a cover that hangs by two cords from the liftgate to hide whatever you may have in the rear package area. At the end of each cord is a rubber ball that fits perfectly snug between the bars and the fairing. They are working great on mine so far. I just pushed them in place and they haven't moved. Honda part# is 84413-TP6-A01 and 2 of them should be less that $5.00 and 1-2 days to order in.
  16. I listed my wifes 1999 Honda VT750CD2 on Thursday night. I had 15 calls on it and the first one to come look at it took it home today I had 1 offer to swap for a 1984 Corvette and several lowballers , I told not to bother me. You can weed out the tire kickers by telling them to bring cash for a test ride. I have One more bike listed (1998 Honda VT1100T) with several scheduled to look early in the week. Sure hope it sells fast too, I'd love to have the floor space back.
  17. I have a question for the wise ones here. I know it is not Venture related, but does anyone here know anything about the 1982 Honda V-45 Sabre? We are still looking to upgrade my 16 year old's bike. There is one listed at a dealer in Yankton for $1500.00 with only 13,000 miles on it. Pictures make it look pretty good. Any help would be appreciated. Do you folks think that a jump from 250 to 750 is too much? http://www.yanktonmotorsports.com/images/yanktonmotorsports/VP1921574_1_large.jpg Thanks, Dave
  18. something like that? got a call from dianne way up north. she said she saw a honda pacific? 800cc strange looking but kind of a touring bike. any one know any history about these? reason im asking is a friend of hers is interested and wants to know if its worth $3600.00 sorry no pics but its red has 32 k on it. new tires battery and regular maintenance done this summer. she said it has trunk space but not enough for helmets? she thought there was a radio on the bike? was this a new kind of smaller type goldwing prototype/ kind of like the silverwing? thanks oldgoat.
  19. For those familiar with Honda Nighthawk: I just got a request to work on a (claimed to be) 1994 Honda 650 Nighthawk with a clutch problem. Issues describes are kind of vauge at this point but what I'm running into is I'm not seeing a '94 650 Nighthawk in my searches for info. Only a 750. I'm a bit familiar with the mid 80's Hawks. Did Honda make a 650 up into the 90's? I haven't seen the bike yet so I can't refer to VIN# or other identifiers. Just trying to get a head start on this before I commit to taking it in. Mike
  20. Hello all I obviously am new here as this is my 1st post. I am in the process of purchasing an 07 model. 1st Question: Can anyone tell me the proper pressure for the front and rear shocks? I read the front takes no more than 7 and that 3 is a good place to start but I havent found anything on the rear. The bike has been sitting for a couple of months so I will probable need adjusting. 2nd question: What years are the 1st generation vs the second generations that I see people talking about and what are the differences? 3rd question: Is there a 3rd generation? 4th question: Is there any major issues I should look for or check. the bike has 40,000+ miles. 5th question: Is there a limit as to how many questions I can ask per post? Thanks in advance as I am sure there will be more questions to follow. Tom PS: my presently my other bike is a beautiful 97 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. I recently sold a 06 HD Street Glide. I've also owned a 03 Honda ST1300, a 03 Honda VTX 1300, a Honda 750 ACE, and my 1st bike was a Yahama 400 way back when gas reached $1.00 a gallon. My wife rides a 04 HD Fatboy.
  21. I have had the opportunity this past week to try out my friends 2009 Honda St 1300 . while he tryed out my FJR 1300 I'll make this real short We both came to a conclusion that The FJR is a true.......Sport Touring Scoot.... 90%- Sport,,,, 10% Touring While The Honda St 1300 Is a Touring Sport....90% Touring.....10% Sport,
  22. I decided to keep my Midnight Venture, and buy me a Honda RC51. for when my friends and I go away for the day. Maybe by the end of next week..I will pick it up....The RC51 won the AMA and World Superbike crowns. Top speed around 200 MPH http://gaspipe.smugmug.com/photos/361483892_y7axq-L.jpg
  23. Took a 3 day trip up to the NC-Tn mountains last weekend and met this guy and his wife up on the Cherohalla Skyway. We sat there and talked for maybe 30 minutes. Real nice couple. They are from Kentucky. I invited them to join us on this forum since we are having a lot of GW owners and a new segment for "Wingnuts" . If any of you live close by them, tell them I said "hi" and encourage them to join us. BTW, he said his Honda GW Quad was one of only 7or 8 in the US, he thought.
  24. I took a trip form Montreal to Vancouver 14,000km over 28 days. What a trip nice ride, people, weather and scenary.Only one glitch in the trip The Yamaha dealer in Kelowna. We were three couples, two riding Honda's, and us with the Venture. We all needed an oil change so off we went my friends to Honda and me to Yamaha. Guess what? The dealer did not want to change my oil that day even if I mentionned I was leaving early next morning:bang head:. He said all was taken and their policy is not to take walk ins. They have two sites so the other one wanted me to leave the bike for the day and they would maybe fit me in. What should I do in the meantime with no ride????? not their problem. I ended up in a Victory :clap2:bike shop with great service and a friendly atmosphere, even if I was riding a Yamaha. Bought gloves while I was there, one hour later I was out and ready to ride. My message to the Kelowna dealer is he might be good in boats and four wheelers but as a bike shop he is unworthy of giving sevice and should not sell motorcycle. If they can't help the riders to continue their journey they are not a bike shop. Oh and talk about all the ribbing I got from my Honda friends. If I had a Harley, Victory, Honda, I would have had service but the Kelowna Yamaha dealer:thumbdown:, no sir. I had to pass this on and I am sending an email to their offices so they know how I feel. Thanks for reading.
  25. your working on there? the honda didn't need fixing at every stop:stirthepot:
