Hi All: I had posted way back around June 11th or so that I had been rear ended on my brand new bike, only had 462 miles on it. A young fellow hit me at a traffifc light. He did close to 7k in damages. Praise the Lord, I was not hurt at all, and that my wife was not on the back. Well, I am excited, I got it back from the repair shop today. The only thing that still needs fixed is the left saddlebag which is on back order (will probably be about 2 months) Sure felt funny riding this again. The only bike I have ridden for the last 6 weeks is the small 250 that we used during the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course which I just completed last week. So glad to have it back, but now I have to get used to riding it all over again. I only had a few hours on it when I was hit. The first thing I am ordering now is some new BRIGHt stop lights. I know the young fellow saw me because I flashed the brake lights and saw him slowing down. I though he had stopped and then in about 4-5 seconds he hit me. But I want to put a brighter brake light on as I feel that one that comes with the Venture is not near large or bright enough. Oh yeah one good thing did come out of it. I was able to replace the stock mufflers with the Baron Nasty boys since the mufflers had been damaged. They were actually, even with the tips, less expensive than the stock mufflers. Take care everyone. Don and Ev Wood

Well we've hit 12 rustic roads so for for the rustic roads awards program here in Wisconsin. I sent our pics off to the DOT a few minutes ago for our Rustic Roads Motorcycle Tour patch. We'll send in the rest after we hit 25 for the certificate. I put the pics in my photo album. Just for giggles, I asked them what might happen if a person was to hit all 107 rustic roads in WI. I wonder if I'll get a reply. I know it's not that exciting. It gives us an excuse to ride. Beside, I'm easily amused sometimes.

That got ya all curious, didn't it. But you worked it out already. Yep - the RSV has been under wraps for about 3 months due to the cold :snow:and me being away so much with the bride in the tin top working. Beautiful day today - it's stopped raining and we hit 14degC (about 58degF for others) so I decided to push some oil through the donk and roll the tyres. Key in, (no b-r-r-r-r-r of the fuel pump) headlight a bit low, choke out, 2 twists of the throttle, hit the starter. Damn! ! ! ! Wer, wer, wer, w- - - nothing! Seat off, battery out, on the charger for a few hours, back in the bike, seat back on, a quick kick in the guts and away we went. Ten minute ride and back in the car port. Serves me right for neglecting the old girl for so long. I gave her a hug prior to putting the covers back on, and promised I'd take her out again next week. I'm sure there was a little flicker from the right front blinker.

Hey Boomer, Big AL said you're safe to "Venture In" to Western Australia 'cause as far as being a good shot goes: "He couldn't hit the broard side of a bull with a shovel!":crackup::crackup:

today on my way home i was riding looking at all the sights on the hiway ( I-75) and i looked down at my foot for some reason and i noticed my lower wind vent was leaning backwards( not a good sign) so i tried to get over to the shoulder to fix it or remove it untill i got home and....... you guessed it off it comes at 70 mph on the hiway as i watched it in the mirror hit the ground and shatter and the metal part that bolts to the crash bar bounced all i could think was i hope this dont hit a car. well it didnt so i was lucky in that aspect... so if any one has the right side wind vent for a second gen and you want to part with it please let me know the bike still looks good from the left

Today on my way home from work, I was cruising along on my 99 RSV at 60mph in 4th gear. Radio off, cruise control on. All of a sudden the engine died as if I'd hit the kill switch. Initially I thought that the cruise had just dropped out. Nope. Checked the kill switch, hadn't hit it. Flicked it back and forth a few times and tried to restart. Nothing. I have read all the posts on ignition switch failure and this sounds different. All my lights, radio, dash lights and instruments are working normally. The only problem is that when I hit the starter button nothing happens except for the engine temp light (red light on the lower right of the instrument panel) comes on until I release the button. I can hear the fuel pump run, 4-way flashers work, horn (Stebel) works....everything but the start circuit. I'm thinking kill switch failure. Any of you wizards have any thoughts before I start tearing her apart? Sure am thankful that this didn't happen last week in the middle of my 2000 mile Appalachian mountain range trip! Joe

We hit a deer about 75 miles from home this afternoon. We did NOT go down, and nothing happened to us at all. The bike, however needs a new front fender, turn signal bar, and I'm suspecting probably the entire front end assembly. Slight scratch on the front fairing that I would expect will buff right out. It was a young buck that had to be put down. We were very sad! Didn't even have time to hit the brake, and we had a real tank slapper for a few seconds. Got it back in control and pulled off to the side. The insurance company isn't gonna be happy with us! I have $500 deductable that I wil have to somehow come up with... ***SIGH***

After 10 years my rear shock finally dumped its contents. Wasnt even riding the bike.....It was sitting in the garage when the first drop hit the floor. And I was sitting in the garage looking at its first drop of fluid hit the concrete. It was such an unholy experience, realizing just how much a new shock will be. However, Bushwacker, who triked his 06 had the old one and sold it to me for a reasonable price. It arrived today and hopefully ill have it in Sunday morn. Still deciding if I want to do the leveling links. Hmmm, maybe while its up ill do............

I know this is probably addressed here somewhere, But I'm not finding it. New (to me) '86 Venture Royale - cruise turns on and goes through light diagnostic, hit set and the set light comes on, but won't hold speed AT ALL. Hit either brake or clutch and resume light comes on. Hit resume and nothing. Is it a vacuum leak? Vacuum pump? Pump wiring? Where should I start? Thanks

Ok, I have completely gone through the carbs, everything is clean and unobstructed. Even installed new diaphragms. Sync is about as close as I can get it using a carbtune. New plugs even. Yet at idle I am still getting an occassional popping or chuffing (whatever) and if hit hard from idle, it doesn't rev immediately; sort of wants to stammer then rev. What am I missing here? Any advise would be most helpful.

Freezyrider just called me with the news that one of our friends just crashed near Madison, In. Joe and Donna, Kevine (Leadwolf56) and Sue, Lynn and Janice and John and Teresa left Lexington this morning on their way home and they hit a slick spot near Madison and John and Teresa went down and hit a guard rail. They think Teresa may have a broken leg and they are at the hospital in Madison as I write this. Please remember them in your prayers this Memorial Day. Thanks, Dennis

I had pulled my poor old 83 Venture out on this bright sunny Monday (holiday in Canada), and gave her a thorough once-over : check the plugs for sootiness/too clean, any leaks, all fluid levels, air pressures, etc. My bride offers to cut the lawn if I can watch our 2 darling girls (ages 4 & 2) for the time. I say no problem (her having cut the lawn in... ummm, never). The girls and I play happily in the back yard, when I hear a "GGggrrrrunnnch" followed quickly by a "whack". The result is posted in the picture. I believe she hit a pine cone with the lawn mowver, which promptly decided to launch it full speed with significant rotational velocity towards my bike. Ugggh. I know it need some touching up anyways, but did she have to hit the one panel that was fine ?

Two friends got hit from behind while stopped at traffic lights. One was hit at fifty mph, the girl was talking on the cell phone and did not brake before she hit him. The other was hit at slow speed but fled the seen. He was caught a mile away, no insurance and hit a run, maybe he might have learned a lesson about hit & run. Both friends are alright. tew47

I had a friend of mine go down on his 1300 on Sunday - hit the back end of a car (not paying attention). Fortunately, he is alright with only a broken finger. However, he sent me an e-mail this morning - with the following question - and I didn't know how to answer it - maybe some of you may have some thoughts???? I believe he was going slower than 20MPH - as he was in a small tourist town - with a lot of Sunday traffic - a Mercedes hit the brakes abruptly - he had turned his head - and hit the car - flying over the handlebar. Here was his question? The preliminary is that my bike isn't totaled. I haen't seen it since the accident and didn't have a chance to inspect it then, they had me strapped down as a precaution. However, I understand the forks are bent, etc. The guy at the yard where it was taken told me he thought the freeway bar saved most the side it was laying on. When I was laying on the ground, the front of the bike was pointing away from the impact, all I could see was the tires and undercarriage, it was on it's left side. So, after impact, the bike had to have turned roughly 90 degrees. It will be interesting (sad) to see. The only thing regarding the bike that concernes me at this point is the ultimate integrity of the frame. Do you think it should be a worry? In your travels have you heard of problems in this regard? Any advice?

Be careful out there. I just got back from the scene of a collison. I witnessed a young rider on a sport bike get hit head on by a van making a left turn in front of him. The young man appears to be OK. He had a good helmet and leather jacket. Unfortunately he did not have proper riding pants or boots and got a good case of road rash. I was stopped at a red light, first vehicle in line. I was waiting for the light to change, not really paying attention to anything other than the stop light. The rider and van had a green light. The next thing I hear is a bang and see a guy flying about 15 feet straight up in the air then land in front of me. It was the eeriest thing I have seen in a long time. I got out of my truck and went right to him. Others came and I made sure that no one took his helmet off. One said she was calling 911 so I did not have to. A physical therapist then came up and asked the rider if anything hurt. He moved his legs a bit and he said his ?alls hurt. I wanted to laugh, only because it meant he had feeling in his lower extremities. That is a good sign. I went over to the bike and it was still running. I hit the kill switch. The bike was in pretty bad shape. Next I went to the van that hit him. The driver was a young girl who was visibly shaking. I convinced her to get out of the van and off to the side of the road. I spent time with her to help calm her. She was in the wrong and she knew it. At this point, she did not need anybody to tell her. She just needed someone to be there until her dad arrived. I stayed with her and talked to her. The front of the van was damaged and the windshield was completely shattered. i would say that the helmet hit the windshield top on. The angle of the van front sent the rider straight up in the air. I just had to talk about it to someone and this group is the best. Ward

Well, I think I have had enough of the birds here in Iowa. Maybe the water is different in Michigan. A couple of summers ago, I had an owl try to take my helmet off. It actually hit my helmet with its feet. With my first gen I have dodged countless sparrows and blackbirds and actually hit two with the windscreen. Last summer I pegged a bird of some sort (I still don't know what it was) with the mirror stem of my nighthawk at 75mph. Gave a new defininition to the term: poof! I walked into the house, covered in blood, guts, and everything "else" that comes out of a bird. My wife looked at me, a confused look on her face, "What happened to you?" Well, today, they called in the heavy armor... I was following a car to work this morning at a nice pace. About two miles left on my 18mile commute I saw a turkey standing on the side of the road, facing away from the street. The car spooked it, and it started walking into the ditch. I was already slowing down, keeping an eye on the bird, sure enough, the fat bastard looked at me, turned around and started running back onto the street. I am braking as hard as I can now, and the bird lifts its wings and starts to fly. I am actually relieved, thinking I can put a shoulder into the bird easier than trying to run one over. By now I may be down to about 30mph, and the last flap of the wings lifted the bird over my head. I think the Gen threes should come with anti-aircraft missles.

Just got my BFG Radial TA 155/80/15 installed at Discount tire for $97 otd. Couldn't balance it, but once I told them it was for a trike (no its not) they had no problem mounting it. Took 90 lbs to seat the bead. Got an interesting tip about the white letters. They told me to wash the blue off and hit it with some flat black paint. Have to give it a try. Not a pretty story on how I ended up on the darkside. Had a Metzler ME880 blow on the high way, loaded with me, the wife and our new to us time out camper. Ended ok with no fatalities, but could have been UGLY.

I purchased one of the little bells to go on a bike and it has come apart up at the top. Nothing left but the wire and the little ringer part. Has anyone had this to happen. These little things were expensive if I remember. I haven't hit anything with it it just came apart. Are they warrantied?

I have a question in about the charge level of my battery.....is it normal for the battery charge indicator on the dash to go almost to the red zone when I hit the foot brake? The hand brake shows a minor pull on the battery, but when I hit the foot break, it is almost like there is a direct short some where. Is this normal or do I possibly have an issue? Thank you for any input you may have. Clay
