  1. We had the radio on at work. After the first plane hit, I thought "what a freak accident", then the second one hit and I was thinking it's impossible, this can't be happening...
  2. Just finished a 1250 mile trip over the Beartooth pass, through Yellowstone, down to Jackson Hole then through Wind River Canyon, over the Beartooth pass and back to Roberts, Montana. I hardly knew the trailer was behind the bike ! We encountered rain, wind, sleet and snow, never once did I feel uncomfortable about the trailer being behind me. I did have several encounters with the wild life of the area. First we hit a groundhog that ran into our path on the way up Beartooth, BUMP, no chance to avoid it. Then 4 days later we hit a Deer that darted out of the bush on US 212 just north of Red Lodge! Buckled my front fender and the turn signal trim ring and visor are now the property of a Montana ditch. We were only going about 10 mph at impact so I was able to swerve and only hit it's rear hoof. Kept the bike up,but , I do have a head injury from the wife slapping the back of my helmet repeatedly, Lol . If it were not for the increased stopping distance caused by the additional weight of the trailer we would have missed it completely. Yes the deer is fine. Can't wait for the next trip.
  3. seeing as i hope Dianne dont come on here and read this? its a nice in the 80,s day and im feeling pretty darn good. so i thought hey oldgoat take the venture out and see what dianne was talking about it bogging down. well i fire her up and take off. first i made some phones calls to family and friends and gave them my route i was going to take.. well off i go. im going along nice and steady. then theres a 45 degree uphill road. ok heres a good place to test the bogging?? i crank it up to 45mph in second and just hung on to the throttle. shot up that hill hitting 60mph in second maybe not a good thing? hit the flat top road hit 3rd and cranked it again and hit 75mph.. the i just dropped it into 4th. and stayed there. never put it in 5th. as this road is a 45 mph road and its getting close to the end of the month .can we say this road is a speed trap road because as soon as you hit the bottom of this road it drops to 30mph. small town about 125 population. well im thinking that that number 3 sparkplug cap i cleaned and snapped back on migh have something to do with the bogging. they had and now i fixed it?? also the seafoam and premium gas might have finaly cleaned something in the carbs?? so i had a good day untill i got home and noticed oil burring smell?? i think i have a small vale cover leak on the front left side as i see some grim and oil residue there?? not a biggie. just might need a little tighten down on it. also noticed that left handle bar seems in a little? now i think that the repair shop dropped another bike on mine. as the farring was cracked. so is there any punch marks on the bars to see if it it shiffted? or god forbid its bent some. im thinking this is what makes the front wobble some? im trying to ride and keep bars straight and im pulling the left bar when i shouldnt??
  4. http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50620 BeemerBob was out on a ride by himself and hit a washout. Went down hard and probably cracked a couple ribs. Thanks to his SPOT, they were able to find him and bring him to safety. His cellphone had no service. He hit the "help" button and people responded. Even if you were to crash and couldn't hit the "help" button, you can still be tracked through the GPS signal and google maps.
  5. I took a test ride at a Columbus Oh. HD dealer today C&A Harleys. My son wanted to take a test ride and I agreed to go along. The one I would have liked to rode, Road Glide, was already spoken for when we could go and my son could get the one he wanted. The bike was a CVO Street Glide, 110 cu inches, which is 1800 cc. Fuel injected six speed. It was a very comfortable bike, Great guaging and controls. I have never been a fan of forward controls or a fork mounted fairing, but I did like the bike. It handled well at low speed when cornering. I probably would have liked it better, as far as comfort, if it would have had a drivers backrest. I felt like I was pulling back against the handlebars when riding it. Now the downside. It shook like an out of balance washing machine at idle. This smoothed out once under way. When accelerating it felt like the bike was starting to develop some power and it hit the rev limiter. With the six speed transmission, it seemed like I was shifting to often. I felt like my Venture would have probably been about 5 bike lengths ahead of the HD when I hit second. It just didn't have any really impressive power for a 1800 cc engine. MSRP was $31,000. It would make a nice cruiser for someone that didn't want any really impressive performance though. Bottom line is I am very happy with my dinosaur 1st gen. Even if I hit the lottery, this would not be my next bike. Did see an RSV there and left a Venture business card on the seat. Gary http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af193/gdingy101/Harleyrides.jpg
  6. Over the last week, the RSV would not start when I hit the start button. At first I thought maybe I did nto have the stand all the way up, although I was in Neutral anyhow. Checked it then hit the button again and it started. It has doe this 3 or 4 times in the last week. Today, I discovered that when I push the button with a slight upward pressure, no start. Slight downward pressure, start. I am assuming that the contact on the start button is wearing out. Common? Bike still has 1 1/2 yr warranty, but I don't want to be stuck somewhere with the bike not starting.
  7. Haven't been in here much this past week..was I missed?? Been going to Psychiatrists (no comment please) and Specialists to do reports for my Barrister for the claim. Then good old P.T.S.D. hit me Back to my mad old self now :dancefool:
  8. Just heard that a Old high school pal (ROY HOOD 63 of Willisburg)died Sunday when for some reason lost contol of his bike and hit a culvert. This was in Nelson Co, Ky.His passenger later died at the hospital. They were not wearing a helmet.
  9. Had a problem start this year. When I hit a bump the speedometer needle would shake a little. While on my long trip it got worse, sometimes to the point where it would drop right to zero, then come back when I hit another bump. This also takes out the odometer and the cruise control. I have removed the fairing and lowers and checked all wiring since it seemed it was when the front hit a bump the problem occurred. I also took all the connectors apart, checked them and put back together. Still same. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  10. I will be traveling to Panama City Beach early in August. I am driving my Trans Am which gets very good gas mileage on the highway but drops pretty bad when faced with a lot of stoplights. I have routed from Hattiesburg,Ms to Mobile,Al on hwy 98. When I hit I65 should I go ahead and take it south to I 10? Looks much shorter to follow 98 but it also looks like it goes into a downtown.
  11. One thing to consider when riding a RSV with CT along with RSV's with MT If your the one in frount with the kumho on back, and get in a situation where you need to stop suddenly, the one with MT on back can not stop in the same distance. Riding with a couple of guys I met the other day and had to stop for a 4 wheeler that pulled out in frount of us, I got stopped it plenty of time, they slid right by me on each side, neither hit the car but it was close. and they several bike lenghts behind me when this started because I looked in the mirror to see if I was going to be rear ended as soon as I hit the brakes. I know different bikes stops have different stoping distances, my brother's wing will stop shorter than my RSV, bobby's harley takes more distance. But normally when riding with a group of the same bikes you expect them to act close to the same. I just thought I would post this just for info something to have in mind. and yes reaction time plays a part too.

2006 RSTD 23K miles OK gentlemen and ladies, I just went out to take a ride with my wife. Rolled the bike out of the garage, packed the bike, got helmets and stuff then tried to start the bike. When I turned the key I had lights etc. I hit the starter, did not fire the first time. Pulled the choke a little and went to hit the button again. I must have not pushed hard enough because it sounded like I hit the button two times real close together. It was then that the lights went out. I have checked all fuses including mains, all wiring that I can see with seat off and cowling/covers off. I have nothing. Battery appears still good as it will still light my accent lights that are not run through the switch. Any ideas, hints or suggestions? Thanks in advance everyone.
  13. Arrived back form our eastern tour yesterday at noon, yesterday. Round trip was 5829 Km's. I used 397 litres pulling a trailer about 34.5 mpg. Deb used 322 litres approx. 42.5 mpg. We hit about 4 days of rain and it was very cold around Gaspe' and the Cabot Trail but we enjoyed ourselves. Camped when it was nice. Here's a few picks.
  14. Well coming home from work yesterday at 4:15 I got t boned in my truck. The guy hit me hard enough to put me on two wheels. I have a 1995 Chev Z71 full sized 4 wheel drive, he has a full size van. I feel like ... umm well like I got hit by a truck this morning but not hurt too bad. For some reason the CHP did not waant me to get near the guy that hit me so I have to get the report to get the insurance for him. I have to go to the tow lot to get my tools out of the truck this morning; more $ in tools than the truck is worth. He came frome a side street and I never saw him till he hit me. Be careful out there Rod
  15. Last night at around 10:00pm there were some bad storms with heavy wind, hail, lightening, AND Tornadoes. There was a lot of damage. I know that we have some members out in the area hardest hit. There is no land phone service or power. At one point there were 48,000 without power. I sure hope everyone is OK. According to the weather dude on TV the super cell that spawned the tornado went directly over me and dissipated as it got closer to the lake. This was the closest that I have ever been to heading for the basement.
  16. ...and ate me a Mustang. I knew it would be easy, lol. We both started off kinda normal from the stop sign and I heard his motor wind up so I had to do the same thing, it was over as soon as it started. I was prolly 4 or 5 bike lengths ahead when I hit second. The kid started to make a u-turn and so did I. I started off up on the back wheel and rolled past him. He followed a bit but would not even up for another run, hahahaha. Wonder if he will do that again with an old bagger.
  17. Luckily I was in my diesel pickup. But, yes, the deer hit me, not the other way around. Driving home from work around 2am, 3 miles from the house, I saw a deer in the road. I slowed down to about 20 mph as the deer walked across the road. The deer was almost all the way across the road, to my left, as I got next to it. The deer decided to go back the other way. The road was a little wet and it must have slipped and broadsided the back door of the truck. No damage to the truck and the deer walked away.
  18. please be care full out there this weekend. i have not met any of you yet but i feel this is like a big family. and i would hate to hear bad news about anyone going down getting hit ect ect. be safe out there my friends. enjoy the weekend and ride like everyone is out to get ya. oldgoat:Venture:
  19. Standby for rant! Sat night - 9:PM - driving on a two lane road with center lines - going from a portion with street light to no street lights when out of the bushes along side the road jumps a man (and I use that term loosely right now). I swerve to miss him as my first thought was he was trying to know me off the bike as something fun to do on Sat night. I gathered the bike up, after missing the oncoming cars and pulled into the next road available to get my cell phone and call 911. Yes I was angry. The idiot could have caused me to go down or hit another car head on. As I sat there I could see him with the back light of the street lights right at the edge of the bushes again. This time he runs out in front of a car. Obviously a game of chicken for him. That car looses it and spins around but no harm. The driver of this car continued until she saw me and pulled over. 17 year old girls scared out of her mind. She decides to go back home and talk with her dad. As I look back up two cars are coming and the first one goes left, misses, second one goes right but makes contact tearing his mirror and door hand off the drivers side. All of us ended up sitting on the next side street for the police to show up. While waiting (took over 20 mins) we saw the man go wobbling back up the road from the direction we had all come. I went to keep and eye on him until LEO's showed up. He staggered approx a mile and 1/4 before the police showed up. (another 15 min wait) The officer put him in his car, talked with some obvious friends and released him into their custody saying, "he just needs to sleep it off." Here is the bother..... I could have hit another car head on and been messed up or worse, That 17 yr old girl could have totally lost control and hit a pole or another car, and the three other cars involved could have had similar problems. The officer kinda laughed at the guy with the busted mirror and told him he would have to pay the deductible anyway. What is up with this picture. If I would have been in my suburban, I probably would have hit and killed him and where would I be today??? Am I over reacting or is this picture messed up?
  20. My wife and I were on the way home from Elizabeth, Wv and I was on my 650 V-star as my 2007 rsmv is in the shop for radio, windshield, and rear shock. She was on her 250 V-Star about 60 yrds behind me. Thank god my Wife is ok with only a few scratches on her bike. Well a deer ran out in front of me as I was riding about 45mph at 7 pm. I locked both brakes hoping he could scoot across the road in front of me. No such luck. He hit me dead square at about the headlight and side and took the bike out from under me. broke the left floorboard and bent the handlebars. I think the handlebars got me as I was flying over bike as I now have two broken ribs on left side, over my heart. Hurts like the dickens. The bad thing is, I know for a fact that this will hurt for about 6 weeks. When I was taking martial arts classes I guess I got a little cocky with my instructor and he un-intentionally broke the last lower rib on my left side. Deer had to be shot as it busted it up pretty bad. lessonS learned: Always wear a full face helmet (if I can fighure out how to send a picture of it I will). Always wear a Joe Rocket or like breatheable and padded Motorcycle Jacket. Alway wear gloves (my half gloves protected all but outside of my right wrist). Always wear steel toe boots. Am going to look into vented / armored pants as I have road rash on both knees. I hit deer hit at 45 mph and I came away from it with just two brokeb ribs.... I thinK I'm very luck, The big guy must have been watching over my wife and I:2143:...
  21. can i ask for a prayer for a friend of mine? shes the one who drives the pink crotch rocket well she was going home from work yesterday and was heading straight. with a green light when a lady made a right hand turn on a red or should i say she made the right but didnt stop for the red. my friend hit the back of the car. there are skid marks from her hitting the brakes. i shouldnt say she hit the rear more like the quarter panel and it took her down. speed limit is 35 mph as this road soon leads to a 55 mph highway. well she has a broken right wrist. a sore right knee. but she wheres full body gear. thank god. the driver of the cage was charged with improper turn. failure to give right of way. her excuse was her dog jumped in her lap and she didnt see the motorcycle. so they charged her with improper restraint of her dog as well?? bike will need new forks and lots of body plastic.? im thinking they should total it but not sure? so thanks to all for your prayers her name is dianne olson 30 years old been riding bikes since she was 16.
  22. Rode to Jacksonville yesterday. First time using intercom since getting new fairing under warranty and I also have the mic mute. Everytime I hit a bump in the road the intercom would activate. I would have to hit the ptt button to disengage the intercom. Also with the mic mute you hit the ptt button once and the intercom in engaged until you hit the ptt button again to disengage it but now you have to hold the ptt button continously until you are finished talking and then release the ptt button to disengage. What's up with dat? While the dealer had the bike installing the new fairing I asked him to put dielectric grease on all the connections while they had the fairing off. Is is possible they reconnected the mic mute in the wrong connector and caused this are is something else going on? Thanks for your suggestions. Also, thanks Ruffy for the m & e in Jacksonville. Food was excellent.
  23. hope all are doing well! been some bad weather this week, several killed in ms and many injured. twisters hit al tonight, don't know what all happened yet. it's that time of year right now, so be safe!
  24. On my way to work thursday morning I had the bad luck of encountering a wayward raccoon. I saw him running straight down the center of the road so I slowed down and proceeded to go nice and wide around him. I got right next to him and he zigged right behind my front wheel and just barely hit underneath on the left hand side of the bike. So I stopped and got out the flashlight to see if anything was damaged. Turns out that little hit shattered both of my lower cowlings. Called the insurance and they were more concerned with me not getting hurt than any damage to my bike. Kind of nice dealing with someone like that for a change. Anyway, called around to check on parts and what a suprise that was. $817 for the pair of green lower cowlings and they have to be shipped from japan.
