  1. Well I really don't know where to start. I've had some close calls in my days, but this morning was almost too close. To set the scene, it was around 7 am running a little late which knocked this creature of habit off a little. Overcast, wet roads but it was daylight. I ride with my bright lights and passing lights ALL THE TIME and at night or low light conditions I always have my High Intensity LED's on. All 134 of those Green Suckers. Honestly it's extremely hard to not see my bike. Coming up on a traffic signal (which was green for me)at 60Mph I noticed that cars at the traffic light entering the highway were stopped. On the other side of the light was a gas station and as I was approaching the intersection I saw a car leave the pumps, ok nothing out of the ordinary here. Well this MORON didn't even slow down and just left the pump and shot right out into my lane. I was literally no more than 40 feet away doing 60 in the same lane. Now here is where having situational awareness saved my bacon. Coming up to the intersection I had observed an SUV barreling up in the left hand lane, well he was passing me and the Moron who pulled out in front of me at the same time, the whole time he was laying on the horn at me because I had to lane split between the two or slam the back of the car that pulled out in front of me. No time or distance to brake and try and get out of that one, plus the fact that the roads were wet. I went past the car on it's left at the same time the SUV was passing me on the left. The space was no more than a foot wider than my RSV. To say I was upset would be putting it mildly. Once I got my wits about me I quickly stopped the bike in the middle of the highway, got off and was yelling, screaming, challanging, and threatening that Moron who had stopped on the highway about 100 yards back. I stood in the middle of the Highway for about a minute daring that jerk to come closer. Finally I came to my senses and realized I was causing a pretty big traffic hazzard myself so I threw a leg over and continued on to work. I picked a bad day to be running late and forget to take my blood pressure meds. Sorry folks I just had to vent.
  2. I got the lower vents for my '08 Venture and was looking to get highway pegs but it doesn't appear to me as if they will fit with the lower vents. Anyone have both on their bike?? Or know that only a particular peg will work with the vent?? Thanks... Dee:178:
  3. Anyone have any suggestions for riding on an 8 lane highway with heavy traffic.
  4. Hi I am looking for recommendations for adding highway peg (or other) for the Venture. I find the "cheap" one that the bike has are not adequate. I am 6' 1" tall, with about a 34" leg inseam. Any suggestions? I think they would end up a on the engine guard and being somewhat out front to fit the length. Thanks for your recommendations in advance.
  5. I'm a **new** Venture owner, and I'm looking for some recommendations on what kind/type of highway pegs are "made" for a 2008 model?
  6. As big as the front tire is on these bikes does the front tire tend to hydroplane when you hit a puddle on the highway at speed? I used to ride a Vstar and it would send the water out like a speed boat with any sign of hydroplaning.
  7. I cleaned out the closet and put ads in the classifieds tonight for a Lowrance GPS and Diamond R Passenger Highway Pegs. Just thought if anyone is in the market for either check out the classifieds.
  8. A couple of days ago i read a thread where someone said their 07RSV gave them 46 to 48 mpg on a trip averaging 70mph. Since a normal mixture of street and highway usually results in no more than around 45mph avg. to a max of around 50mph, I assume this was almost pure highway, constant speed, level ground. Nevertheless, I have never even in the best of circumstances have come even close to that mileage:confused24:The best I have ever gotten was 40, 42mpg on a purely highway, avg 50mph flat run. Normally, on a regular street-highway mix, two up, no crazy stuff easy ride I get a very consistent 38mpg, which I thought was pretty fair. What are others getting? I mean honest mileage. No wishfull thinking, please!
  9. where is a good place to take the camper and RSTD. for a week of riding. I would like to stay as close to home as possible due to fuel milage of the camper. the wife is not into highway traveling on the RSTD. North FL. or lower Ga. any ideas. thanks marty
  10. Does anyone here have the Yamaha smoked lowers on their Venture and a set of Kuryakyn highway pegs mounted as well? I am not sure if you can do both so I am asking. Pictures would help showing the highway pegs mounted along with the Yamaha lowers...also would be interested in knowing the model number and any additional accessories needed to make that happen.
  11. Just looking around the internet trying to find what cars get the best gas mileage and I see where the Smartcar is rated at 45mpg highway and wonder how a car so small and underpowered can only get 45mpg.. Then I look up the old 1990 Honda Civic CRX HF and is was rated 51mpg highway, I checked Honda's current line up and their best car is the Civic hybrid rated at 47mpg highway. WHAT??!!??! In the 90s we had a small car that got 51mpg highway, whe mid sized cars got around 17mpg highway, now midsize cars get around 27mpg highway and small HYBIRDS only get 47mpg. To add insult to injury, Honda had a hybrid that got 60mpg but they stopped selling it in the US a couple years ago, I have to believe someone got paid off!!!!
  12. I have a 06 RSV. My sweetie has mentioned that she would like something like highway pegs for the back. I see that Diamond R has them. If any one has them mounted on a second gen can you post a pic so I can see where they would mount and how they would look. If there are any passengers willing to share their experience with passenger highway pegs we would appreciate that input as well. Thanks all
  13. Me and the wife went on a 250 mile lunch run today. We wanted Texas Roadhouse badly but the one in Orange Park is usually crowded. We took 90 all the way to Lake City where TRH is rarely packed and we had a great lunch. Getting back up on 75 then I-10, we were running about 80. As I hit Jax and got on I 295, I felt fatigued. So did Jean and she was complaining about a headache. It hit us that the Road King mufflers, which are drilled out, was invading my space and seemed louder than ever. Now, I love the way they sound in local driving, but at highway speeds, it is now grating on me. So, I just might have to go back and install the stock mufflers for long highway trips. And you thought you had tough decision to make in your life, huh?
  14. Looks like the Tail of The Dragon is on fire today. Blamed on a MC crash. That's just what the Tenn Highway Patrol need more reason to shut it down. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351600,00.html
  15. Really just curious here. Us drivers on the first gen can put a set of highway pegs on the engine guards for ourselves. Has anyone added a set of pegs on the MKI saddlebag guards for the passenger that did not effect the driver? A curious mind wants to know!
  16. Now with gas prices at an all time high whats the average mpg that you're seeing? I'm getting about 31 city and 35 highway. I know its an 800+ lbs touring bike; is that bad, good, or par ?
  17. is anyone making passanger highway pegs for a second gen if so any feedback on brand thinking about puting a set on the bike:322:
  18. Can anyone tell me how a Travelcade compares to the stock seat or any other as far as height and forward position? I only 5'9" so I expected it to be a little taller than my cruiser, but it feels like I'm too close to the tank and even with the highway pegs my legs aren't stretched out. before I start cutting on the seat I thought I'd ask.
  19. This one will be of particular interest to the Ontario members, and any ex-service members, like myself, out there. As most of you have probably heard, the "Red Fridays" group has succeeded in getting the Ontario government to re-designate the 172 Kms stretch of Hwy 401 between Canadian Forces Base Trenton and Toronto, as "The Highway of Heroes". As this is the route the bodies of our fallen soldiers take, upon repatriation to home and their families. On May 17th 2008, Red Fridays, the Ontario Government, and the Canadian Forces is holding a Repatriation Memorial and Rally in honour of the re-naming of this stretch of the highway. I've already signed up to ride in the event, and seeing as the scoot is RED, have signed up for one of the 70 "Lead Vehicle" positions, one position for each of our fallen to date. I'm posting this to bring this worth while event to other riders attention, and hoping others will join me in honouring our fallen, and to show our continued support for our troops and the sacrifises that they and their families are making. I've included the link for the event, and look forward to seeing many others out there in May. I'm also sure that any of our American riders that are interested would not be turned away, as the overall message of this event is "SUPPORT" for our troops, all the troops involved in the war on Terror. http://www.redfridays.ca/rdr/index.htm

    Highway of Heroes

As part of the Red Fridays Support our Troops campaign, there will be a repatriation of part of Highway 401 between Trenton, ON and Toronto, ON this coming May. I hope some of you can make it ... I'll proudly be participating in the ride on the RSV. Here's a link to the information for this ride. http://www.redfridays.ca/rdr/index.htm Cheers,
  21. Weather was 50 degrees, so I took the bike out for a WET ride. Everything going great and then my cruise went off all by it self and I could not get it on again. Shut it off turn it on, Nothing. Few miles further down the road as I kept pushing set, cancel, set, cancel, etc. I shifted my feet off the highway pegs and realized my heal had been resting slightly against the rear brake. Guess What. :whistling:Cruise works! What a relief thought I was going to have to tear into the switch or maybe replace it. Next time this happens, I think I check my feet first. Jay
  22. I'm looking for some highway pegs for my 2005 royal star midnight venture. Can anyone recommend any that will fit without modification? Thanks,Maddog

  25. Last evening at the community pig roast there was another one. A friend of mine who I used to ride with bruised and battle scared from a motorcycle accident. It's a shame that one of the most enjoyable past times ( riding a motorcycle) has to be so dangerous. The danger I'm talking about is circumstances beyond your control. Cagers,Deer, etc things that in a split second no amount of safety training or equipment can provide an escape. I have a level of confidence in my ability, and I rarely ride at night to lower the deer incident probability, but cagers scare the #@^#* out of me. The things I see on the highway and people pull out in front of me in my company truck where is there mind. I often see vehicles going down the highway that are not safe to be on the road. And drivers sometime act like there stoned out of there mind. I've never had a broken bone ever but the fact is If I was to go down and be laid up for a year. I would loose my job, only have 5 available sick days per year with 120 hrs max carry over, and it wouldn't take long to exhaust everything I've saved for 30 years. The scary thing is when I take a look at my down line of dependents. Wife, kids, grandkids, dad living next door. The quality of life for a lot of people would change. I enjoy a good test run once in a while but I'm glad I don't ride careless like I use to.Still a lot to think about.
