  1. Can someone tell me what size bolt #5 on the rear trunk mount schematic is just purchased this 06 RSV missing one bolt part # 92014-08020-00. Appreciate all the help i can get also does anyone know where to buy reasonably priced highway pegs and possibly a part number for these also. Thanks, Tony
  2. I am thinking of adding highway pegs to my 86 VR. Just wondering what folks have used for these bikes. The fairings are kind of in the way to stick my legs past but it would be nice to stretch out on the long rides. Pictures? Thanks, Gary Just did a search and found most of the info.....
  3. My Sweetie and I have been thinking about a trike but neither of us had ever been on one so we were not sure if we would like one or not. Last week we finally had an opportunity to take one out for a ride. Since i had never been on a trike before I call up Bongobobny and picked his brain (don't say it). He gave me excellent guidance about riding one and his advice really helped. We tried out a 2011 Harley Tri-Glide. I started out by myself to get a feel for it. Bongobobny was right by telling me not to try to lean, just let your body react, spot on words. When I tried to lean I felt like I was fighting the turn, once I learned to relax it was easy. Took about 5 minutes to get used to it. After about 15 minutes I went back and got my Sweetie and we were off. So what was the ride like? Like any Harley when it was at idle you felt the Harley shake but once you got moving that went away. The acceleration was very smooth and very quick, getting up to 70 mph was very easy. It was easy to hold the lane position at highway speed and it was easy to relax and enjoy the ride. We did notice that below about 60 the wind buffeting on the passenger was less than the Venture but above that speed the buffeting for both of us seemed worse. The noise in the cockpit area was noticeably less than the venture at all speeds except idle. For highway driving it was a very enjoyable ride. Now for the secondary highway ride. On 45 mph and 50 mph roads we both found the ride to be very uncomfortable. The front end tracked well and went right where I wanted it to go with no problem. The rear end however was a different story. It kind of felt that the back end was swaying back and forth to the point that if I was susceptible to seasickness I might have gotten it. It wasn't a greatly pronounced sway but it was there non the less. It sort of felt like the bike was trying to track back and forth on the ridge between the tire tracks but since I did not feel it on the front end I can not be sure if that is what was causing it. Since we had never ridden a trike before we can not say it that is a characteristic of a trike or just this one. I will say that on the rough sections of road the ride was not jolting like it would have been on two wheels which made for a smoother ride. The braking was very smooth but it took me a few stops to learn to use the rear brake more than the front, opposite of a two wheeler. Also it only had to remind myself a few times to not put my foot down at a stop before it became "natural". The heel shifter required you to really lift your heel quite high to shift but I think that would be very easy to adjust to. I have 35 inch inseams and the leg room was adequate however highway pegs would still be a must for me.The heat from the engine was not totally uncomfortable but I definitely noticed enough to comment on it and remember it. So what was our conclusions? Well my hips were very tired out after the ride (about 35 minutes), I attribute that to constantly fighting the swaying sensation. My Sweetie did not like the sensation on the back either. Like any Harley the seats would need to be replaced for any riding beyond about 1/2 hour. While this would be a great for interstate riding we do not feel that it was very good for other than that. Still not convinced that a trike is not for us. Until we have the opportunity to test ride other types the jury is still out on that, but if we do decide to go with a trike this one will NOT be on our list.
  4. I think my scoot has had it's last bath!!! Last few times I washed it things went wrong! Just before Doodle's MD gave it a bath and one of the wind deflectors, by the right front fork, fell off. The good news there is it fell off in my driveway. Washed it before MD in Ohio, the other deflector is on the highway somewhere north of Cincinnatti Today I washed it to go to kbran's MD and now the intercom sounds like the fuel pump is running in my helmet headset!!!
  5. Just got an early Fathers Day gift from the wife - a card with a picture of highway lights for my '99 RSV. But where she tried to order them from told her they would be back-ordered for quite some time, so I got a nice IOU from her instead of the lights. She cancelled the order and I told her I would shop around for the best deal and most readily available kit. Any suggestions? I'm already scanning eBay. Thanks!
  6. I'm sure this has been asked, but, I'd like to add highway pegs to my 06 RSTD. I have no other accessories mounted down there....looking at Kuryakin...any suggestions on brands, models, mounts? Thanks!
  7. Hi, Has anyone taken a 1st Gen VR up the Dalton Highway in the last couple of years or so? Mine is itching to do it, thinking of next summer. It would be about a 4900 mile round trip.
  8. I was out picking up supplies for an injured mare when I came past an accident scene on US 290 just east of Brenham. A HD was down on the inside lane, everything above tank level was gone with the handlebars badly twisted. The tack shop I was headed for is just east of there and folks inside said that the 18 wheeler [oversized rig complete with escort vehicles] that was pulled off the highway had hit the bike. I'm assuming that either the bike was in it's blind spot when it went to do a lane change or the driver just didn't look. The traffic was backed up to who knows where. The hubby, has to come that way from work said it took him over an hour to get to the scene from Chappell Hiill less than 10 miles away. He also said that the scene was still being investigated and is of the belief that the rider did not make it. With the ROT rally going on this weekend in Austin, the bikes are out en masse and more than a few were asking for trouble by riding the shoulders of the highway to get thru the traffic. Not smart to say the least. Prayers out to the rider and his companions. Also hoping that Trinity Hospital's ER is better than the hospital itself is. If that rider is still with us, he will need all the help he can get.
  9. Just returned from a great ride up to Whistler. The Sea to Sky Highway is a great road to scrub in the new Avon tires... all round, not just in the middle. There was a British Sports Car rally in Olympic Plaza. Lots of MGs, Triumphs, Jags, a few Lotus, Aston Martins, Bentlys, and Minis. Oh, and a Rover 2000 TC. In the dim distant past, I owned a few of the models, and drove a few more. Good day, and only rode through two light showers.

  11. OK,I had my pegs perfect UNTIL I sat on another GL1800..Hum whats the difference in the foot pegs I wondered..same as mine, same style, same area on crash guards mounted...I had to ask was it the seat? The answer was Kurakyn part # 8008A adjustable peg end, male mount. It replaces the "Clevis" or part that angles up when folding the highway peg up,with an adjustable clevis. I just put them on and I am loving it! I kept wondering how all my friends that are anywhere from 6ft 2 inches up to 6ft 9 inches looked so comfortable riding the Wing, now I know, they ALL have this on their highway pegs! http://motorcyclestuffwarehouse.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=136_447&products_id=2966 I bought mine from Texas Cycle Chrome in Houston
  12. I haven't started looking yet, so I thought I'd save myself some time and ask. Do I have to split the fairing to get at the OD light bulb on the 2nd gen? I think it is the bulb or loose connection. It stopped working late last year just before I put it away and I forgot about it when I was getting the bike ready this spring, UNTIL I got on the highway. It doesn't work most of the time, but it does work occassionally. It's not high on the priority list but it will get done sometime... Thanks, John
  13. I was looking around youtube yesterday and came across this. A guy on a R1 riding the Pacific Coast Highway. Check out his youtube channel. He is using 4 GoPro Cameras. http://www.pashnit.com/forum/images/misc/film_go.png [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qufk5e70Z30&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL]YouTube - Highway 101.Lincoln City to Newport.R1 Yamaha Motorcycle Vlog[/ame]
  14. This winter is dragging on. Had a few good weeks of nice weather. But today, it decided to be winter again. 4-12 inches forecast, with winds gusting to 35. At 1:00 p.m. today the snow was already over bumper deep on the highway going past my farm. Visibility in the country right now is about 200 feet tops. So I guess it is official, I am ready for spring........I feel a little better now!
  15. Hi guys and gals, just paid my dues and anxious to meet y'all. Next few weeks are going to be great for riding, temps in mid 70's and no rain that I can see. I live on the west side of Phoenix in Buckeye. There are lots of cool desert destinations around here, one of my favorite is the Desert Rose on old highway 80, about 20 miles west of Buckeye. Since I am retired, I can ride anywhere/anytime. Please check in, say hey, and lets get something going before it gets "warm". George
  16. What a great addition to my wing.Put on a Kuryakyn backrest and highway pegs what a difference especially the backrest. Did a 400 mile trip to naples Fl no back pain very comfortable ride. Highway pegs are ok but i don't like the way my legs wrap around the motor. Seems a little ac ward may have to try some floor boards. Also put on some baker hand wings there great keep a lot of wind off your hands. Can't wait to get the lower baker wings.
  17. I am looking for an HID Highway bar for my 08 Venture. Is there one that is manufactured to fit he Venture without modification of drilling holes etc?
  18. From North of Atlanta to south of Kissimmee and back again. 1009 miles (489 today). Turns out that a big old tour deluxe is the "right tool" for this kind of ride. Great roads, great weather. My new $40 highway pegs were the bomb on the long return ride on 75 today. Pics to follow.
  19. I have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale with about 40000 miles on it. On a recent trip I noticed when I was in 4th or 5th gear and rolled on the throttle at highway speed the bike felt as though it slipped before takeing off. Any ideas of the cause?
  20. During Linda's and my trip to the Outer Banks during my birthday weekend in late September, we had one of those momentary encounters that made me think. I missed the turn that would have been toward the northern strip of the Outer Banks where Kitty Hawk is located and ended up going up toward Chesapeake Bay, Va. When I realized what had happened, I made a u-turn and came upon a rest area. The interesting thing was one side of the rest area was the highway and on the other side was a canal with a dock. When we pulled in, I noticed there was a sail boat docked there that was probably between 35 to 40 feet long. A real nice boat. The couple on the boat was waiting for a lock or something to open and had several hours to kill. I went in to use the rest room and Linda, being the friendly person she is, had walked over and struck up a conversation with the couple and was admiring their boat. They were both very friendly and seemed to appreciate having someone to talk to during their wait. The wife was more of the quiet type and the husband was more the type A personality. After we got back on the bike and back on the highway, Linda mentioned that while the husband was showing me the boat, the wife had moved closer to her and in a low voice, mentioned that she used to ride. It was like she did not want her husband to hear her say this. Now, this made Linda and me both wonder what this was all about and was this with a previous marriage, or boy friend or what, but Linda felt like it must have been something she had enjoyed doing with the way she said it. It also made me wonder if the woman would have rather been on the back of, or even driving a motorcycle, than to be confined to that sailboat. RandyA
  21. I admit that I've been out of the loop for a couple of decades. But, during the last couple of months since I've been back up on two wheels, I've noticed something I'd like to ask about. Most of the time when I meet another bike (or bikes) going the opposite direction on the highway, I get a one fingered gesture. No...not that one! It's like they point (forefinger) at the center divider. Like they wanna make sure I know where it is or something. My assumption is that it is an acknowledgment of some sort. Now, this may be a regional thing, but can anyone enlighten me?
  22. I have a Vulcan 1600 Classic, which has a five speed, counter-balanced V-twin engine. At highway speeds, I find that there's a fair amount of high-frequency vibes that come through the floorboards and to a lesser extent, through the hand grips too. Is this also apparent on the Venture? And do you feel that the lack of a sixth gear is a big deal? Is the engine maybe a bit busy when up to highway speeds since it only has a five speed transmission, causing any kind of noticeable buzzing/vibrating?
  23. I having a prob. with my highway lights I have check the seal beams which seem to be okay I'm just wondering if this is covered under the Yamaha Warranty I think it could be a wiring Prob ?
  24. I'm planning on riding from Chicago to Anchorage Alaska in a couple years. Anybody ever ride the Alaskan highway on thier RSV??? Pointers?? Tips??? Etc...???
  25. Hi all, I'm looking for some passenger highway pegs we saw on a very tall gent's Venture this summer. Problem is, we can't remember when we saw him & his bike, or on which ride it was on. I believe it may have been on the "Just Another Road Terip" memorial ride in the Picton, ON area last July. I have attached a sketch I made of the style for the pegs as I remember them. The are NOT the Diamond R set. If anyone knows who this person is or where this style of pegs is available, please let me know. Thanks. Bruno G "The Hat"
