  1. Does anyone have a promotion code from HID Country for their HID kits? I need to get enough for 3 lights soon. I'm tired of riding in the dark.
  2. I'm all about being seen for protection.. Not only is it important to put out a lot of light in order to see the road ahead of you for potential dangers, but it's also important to be able to BE seen by oncoming traffic and others by putting out enough light without blinding the already blind. If you watch a bike approaching you on the road, its the "blob" of light you see that determines how noticeable you really are.. hence driving with high beam during the day time makes you more noticeable, driving with highway light makes this blob a lot wider, more noticeable.. safer. A nice offset with the new lights installed is that gains over 84Watts back to the bike electrical system, allowing me to potentially add way more accessories if I needed to.. which I do HID headlight draws only 35W as it is a single bulb double action set up, instead of using the conventional 55/65 bulbs.. HID puts out a lot of light, bright white light that it also drowns out your highway lights.. these no longer really aid in lighting up the road anymore as the HID sweeps across the road and reach out into the darkness.. Not only that but because the HID is a cooler white light, the highway lights now have a really yellow / amber look to them.. and they no longer stand out at all.. I installed these new LED sealed beam lights on the bike and well sir, what I can tell you is that they superseded MY expectations above and beyond.. They put out 120 lumens each.. And they are also bright white colour. And only require 8 watts each from the bike.. do the math, that's a lot of watts back for the toys.. The included photos will show first what the oem sealed beam looks like on the wall.. then the LED sealed beam.. it's mounted on the LEFT side of the bike. The HID and other light covered to isolate the given highway light's light.. Notice the yellow of the right light compared to the left light.. Now the BLOB of light is much wider and discernible than before.. the dim yellow of the oem light is no longer longer lost in the HID's light.. I'll have to wait and see what it looks like out on the road at night.. how it looks when seen from the front etc.. Still more testing and trying it out to see how viable these will be for a long run.. the HID worked out superbly, now hopefully these will to.. can't see why not.. Sealed, solid state.. LED.. Hmm
  3. I have been reading a lot of post of people getting HID. I have the HID from HID Country installed on my bike and I love it. I was looking around on the HID Country web site and noticed that they offer quantity discounts. If we can get 20 orders together, the same setup that is on my bike will run $34 plus shipping. We can mix and match kits, so you can get whatever color or bulb style you need/want, or even get HID for your cage. Is anyone interested?
  4. I'm leaving for a trip Sat. morning and I don't trust my HID light any more, so I'm puting the old Silverstar back in. Well, I took the HID lightbulb out, and I can't find the power cord for the headlight to reinstall the Silverstar. I thought I just left hanging when I put the HID in. I know this sounds crazy, but I can't see it anywhere. Where would the cord be coming from? I will be greatful for any help? Thanks
  5. I have a 2006 RSV and having some work done. While fairing is off I was going to upgrade the headlight to HID. Shop owner says older HID units in the 300-500 dollar range are ok but China has flooded market with cheap stuff that won't last. He said if I installed HID system from HID Country or the Canadian dealer that it would probably burn out and leave me lightless. Can anyone tell me about reliability issues(good & bad) of the HID systems? Any suggestions? I like plenty of light at night. What about HID passing lights?
  6. I'm posting this in the watering hole rather than the RSTD tech section because I think it has wider appeal. But, you mods can move it if you want. I bought the Canadian Cruiser Customizing HID lamp that is all the rage. I went over to Cupcake's/Squidley's this morning and he installed it while I lamely assisted and Jus Monkeyin Around provided moral support. They are ace, by the way. I'll post install photos tomorrow after some shuteye. Last night I took some "before" photos of Roxie wearing the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra headlamp. Tonight I took some "after" photos for comparison. My first shot is from the house looking down the street. For these shots, the top photo is of the Sylvania, the bottom is the HID. You can clearly see that the HID is white, while the Sylvania is yellow. Interestingly though, the Sylvania is lighting up the Stop Sign at the end of the street, while the HID is not. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4082/4741266254_bd0efa6d96_o.jpg After that shot, I went to the end of the street and my better half took a low beam shot then a high beam shot. I should mention that all the shots in this series use the same settings, which were right for the first photo (f/4, 1" exposure, ISO 400). On low beam, the HID is clearly brighter. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4136/4740631365_34785ce898_o.jpg Then I flipped on high beam. Check it out: the Sylvania is kickin' HID tail. Or so it seems. To me, I think the HID is maintaining a very tight focus, while the Sylvania is giving out greater intensity AND spill. So the Sylvania seems to be whuppin' up on the HID. But the center of the HID is completely burned out in the photo, like it was getting smashed by a laser. There are serious photons hitting the camera. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4740631765_a91c0530a5_o.jpg Next, my wife decided to snap a shot as I drove up. I'm glad she did, because you can compare the light blob. You can also see how the HID is making the street light up from reflected light. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4102/4740632603_3ee425bcbf_o.jpg I pulled the bike next to the camera, and shone on the garage. First low, then high beams. It looks to me like the HID on low beam is very similar to the Sylvania on high. When the HID is on high, you can see that the gutter is very over exposed. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4741268474_eb45db8586_o.jpg http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4741268940_4b6216b907_o.jpg So what are my conclusions? First, although it is claimed to not be the case, I think the HID is aimed higher than the Sylvania. I understand it should be a simple switch out, but it just seems to me that the HID is aimed too high, especially on high beam. My office has a nice location in the garage where I can aim lights, and the next time I ride to work I will do that. Secondly, the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra is a superb light. I've had riders that I follow comment on how bright that bulb is. I especially like the enhanced spill I get on high beam. I almost don't need my passing lamps to spot deer. Almost. If you don't want to make the jump to HID, I can easily recommend this light. Lastly, the HID is very very bright. The photos don't show it, really. You can see that on some of the photos, there is a white haze... which I believe is overloaded sensors. The lamp is very tightly focused, which makes it hard to capture the brilliance. My wife told me when we went inside five minutes after I drove up the street that she was still seeing spots from the HID. She thinks it is too bright. I'll let you judge. I'm also interested in your comments. Dave
  7. I installed my new HID headlight setup from HID Country a few weeks ago. From the start I'm having a problem with the light not always lighting. I turn the key off, and turn the key back on and it's fine most the time. I got caught a few times with no headlight on during the day. Has any one else had this problem? I talked with Jason from HID Country, but he has not responded yet. Thanks for any help.
  8. :soapbox:From a thread here I purchased the HID head light kit from a manufacturer in Canada. This was a plug and play easy install. Before I putit all back together I tried and it worked as promised. Then testing again and all was fine. When secured all wiring I tested again and nothing. I hear the igniter but no light. I checked all wiring and all tested fine. Tested again a nothing. No ignitor buzz or light. So I took it all off. Any clues, suggestion other than returning it. Thanks:confused24:
  9. I just received subject light kit and will instal this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
  10. Ok, put in the HID kit from that everyone is raving about. Well of course, Murphy's Law now steps in. I have low-beam but no high-beam, put the old bulb back in, both beams work. Called the Canadian company and they say not enough power to the ballast for the high-beam or could be a faulty low/high beam switch on the bike. Took the switch apart and of course it is a sealed plastic unit with three wires coming out. Now I slowly push the switch to high beam and the HID high beam comes on, but that is with the switch barely depressed and when fully enaged, no HID high beam. So anyone have a possible answer, otherwise I am going back to the standard bulb.
  11. Here is the basic install of the HID lighting system. Also tossed in a few pics of the Argus Battery Bug location and the future Digital Gauge location. Didnt have enough time to finish it today. Also my new LED lights in the rear....Also the SkyDoc R1 conversion and VMAX splitter along with the SS lines. And the reason why I dont need an alarm system.....
  12. i need a better head lite bulb , i would like a HID but don't have the time and $ , on my trip i may get caught after dark and can,t see very well so i need all the lite i can get . anybody know if there are HID fog / driving lites ? I have led driving lites , they are good for 20 feet . Thanks , Thom
  13. Wanted to know how bright they are. Looks like they may be better the HID. http://www.levineautoparts.com/ledheadlight4.html
  14. well got the heat on in the garage, and going to add some more lights to the wing. now if i can just remember where i parked my walker, so i can get out there. linda probably hid it again. she thinks that will keep me from runnin around on her.
  15. Has anyone successfully replaced the stock headlight assembly with a aftermarket headlight, want a different look in the front,i f I can't change it anyone got a suggestion where to purchase HID
  16. Anyone tried the 9003/H4 HID kits that are all over Ebay for cars? Instead of burning a 55W bulb you're burning a 35W HID lamp that gives you a lot more light with a 20W savings. I also wonder if the computer will freak out or would you have to remove the Reserved lighting unit and other wiring and simply wire it to the handlebar switch and call it done. any ideas? a single Ebay kit would upgrade 2 bikes. You can also get bike specific types that have a HIGH/LOW beam.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BI-XENON-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-H4-3-For-Motorcycle-Bike_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713Q2em153Q2el1262QQcategoryZ36476QQihZ020QQitemZ300260708063QQtcZphoto for example.
  17. Do any of you have any experience with the HID lighting systems? Even though I ugraded my headlight on my 83 to an 86 up version, which was a great improvement and have a PIAA bulb, which also helped, I still want more. I am now seeing the HID headlight being offered at a more reasonable price. This appears to be more than just replacing the bulb, but I am not real familiar with the HID system. Anybody got any feedback on this? I know this system has been around on autos for a few years. Also, do any of you know if this system will work with our Computer Monitoring System that our headlight power runs thru. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EFX-H4-MOTORCYCLE-HID-KIT-YAMAHA-86-93-VENTURE-ROYAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ012QQitemZ220234877551QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Randy
  18. Anyone try one of these HID retrofit light kits? Good, Bad, OK? Any comments?
