  1. Tried to search for this already, and didn't find any threads on this subject, so forgive me if this topic has already been discussed. Headwraps / doo-rags I am finding in my old-er age, and in this VERY hot southern Alabama summer, that I am sweating a lot more under the helmet. I am typically outdoors 6-8 hours on my ride in the heat of the day (yes, I am drinking plenty of fluids). I have never been one to wear any type of headwrap before, but I am finding I need something to soak up a good portion of sweat. I can literally lean over and it looks like a waterfall of sweat pouring out of my helmet. So my prerequisites are: 1) soak up sweat, and 2) keep head somewhat cooler. So what do you prefer / suggest? Will the basic cotton work? Or would I have to keep 2-3 in my bags to wear each day as one gets "full"? What do you think of the Dupont CoolMax products? Any specific brand, vendor, website you would recommend? Thanks in advance for your inputs.
  2. Here is something different... http://gizmodo.com/5595600/because-wearing-a-helmet-was-never-fun
  3. AFX FX-51 Helmet. Black Just do not want to wear a full face anymore. Nice helemt never dropped or impacted.
  4. Does anyone have a couple of the old Venture Decals that were sold back in the mid 80's when the Venture Touring Society was in existence? The word Venture is written out and in gold color.. I have one on an old helmet that is pictured below. I want to put them on a new helmet as I have just purchased a 2000 RSV.. thanks in advance for your replies...
  5. I want to find a blue tooth head set that I can use and not wear a helmet does anyone know of any? Sometimes I wear a half helmet so I would need something that might be able to be used for both? thanks!!
  6. I wear a half helmet and I would like to use the CB on my bike. What are my options for microphones? If I also want to use the intercom with my passenger, what equipment do I need? She wears a half helmet too. Thanks in advance!!!!!
  7. On my last ride in East Tennessee, I decided to visit the Dragon. While I was in no hurry, I was still making a pretty good clip not just puttin. A group of crotch rockets tore past me like a bump in the road. The bikes were loaded and decked out with all the latest speed stuff and the drivers were in full leather with expensive looking helmets and boots. The thing that got my attention more than that was that each one had a gal on the back with nothing but a helmet, sneakers, and a bikini. They were wrapped around those guys tight with their aaaaaatributes stuck up in the air. I hope they never go down! At least I saw none of the bikinis on the tree of shame.
  8. does anybody make a helmet small enough to go in a rstd hard bag?
  9. Does anyone know if a shorty or half helmet will fit in a 09 rstd bag ? thanks
  10. At some point in the future, if your helmet stinks, it's damaged and should be replaced. It will be interesting to see if this makes it to market. I can see the application. Odd how widely diversified opinions are about helmets. One drop from the seat and it needs to be replaced... I've dropped mine from the second story and it don't look too bad. Which one are you? Here's the story.
  11. I need some help here. I just bought new matching helmets for the wife and I. Don't remember the brand right now. We used to wear those little beanies when we rode the "slick97spirit" (honda shadow, hence the screen name) . Anyhoo, the wife has always complained alot about helmet itch. With the new and safer 3/4 helmets she is really complaining to the point of wanting me to trailer on our trip to Myrtle Beach this summer. Says she is not sure she'll be able to take it that long. Surely there is something that can be done. I've tried everything I can think of. I've bought several different types of doo rags, both cotton and polyesther and nothing seems to help. I know someone on here has dealt with this at some time in the past and found the cure. I guess I can just tie her on, turn the intercom down to 0, and take off.........
  12. I purchased this helmet last year....if anyone is thinking of getting one. My opinion, it is a very noisy helmet. ALOT of windnoise. I do have my windshield cut down so my helmet does catch some air. Earplugs a most due to wind noise and not practical with intercom system. Correction: Fulmer AF-655
  13. Have a new to me 97 and don't have the cables to lock my helmet under the seat (not sure I like that option anyway). What has anyone else done as a useful option that they are pleased with? I as looking at the Kuryakyn Universal Helmet Lock, but have two concerns; 1) Is it wide enough to mount on the stick sissy bar? 2) Does it rattle? I've seen a few reviews saying so, but they seem to be in the minority; the rattle would be a deal breaker. Thanks!
  14. I have always heard that the color white was cooler than any other color. Has anyone experienced the difference in a white helmet other than black or any other color helmet as far as heat is concerned. I'm just wondering if it is enought difference to notice.
  15. I will be off to Las Vegas July 3rd leaving from Toronto Canada. We must always wear a helmet in Canada so I have a question about helmet laws in the following States? It would be a treat to feel the wind blow thru what little hair I have before it is all gone. Route down: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada Possible route home: Texas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Florida Georgia Tennessee Kentucky Any knowledge that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Heading to Kentucky this summer with the boys. Just want to make sure I understand the helmet law down there.....Looks like no helmet required for anyone over 21 ....unless.....you've had your license less than a year. Am I understanding that right? (Our oldest son just got his license last week)
  17. I've use HJC CL-33 helmets for years and always wanted a full face helmet but could never get one to work with my fat head. I've tried on every brand, style and price full face helmet and they all pinched my head and pushed my cheeks up to my eyes. I was in a local accessory shop today and stumbled across a full face HJC FS-15 Carbon Fiber Helmet. The helmet is both DOT and SNELL rated. I was intrigued by the carbon fiber and it looked really nice. After admiring it for a few minutes I noticed that it was my size as I started to put it down and thought what the heck, I'll try it on. Was I ever surprised. The helmet fit like a glove and one of the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried. My head wasn't distorted at all once inside. After studying it more I was unsure if I could get a headset installed in it or not. I left the store to do some research on headset installation and after talking to the folks at Sierra Electronics I was convinced it could be done. So, I just ordered two of them (Valerie's needs to match) from this site: http://www.2wt.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=0118 They are on closeout and in short supply. Reg retail $449 and they're being closed out at about $235 with shipping. If you ride a blue '07 they have a blue that looks like it would be a perfect match to the bike. And I was told by one store that HJC makes the same helmet branded as Joe Rocket and it can be bought for about $179. I know it is a bit late to ask, but does anyone have any experience with this helmet. Dennis
  18. I'm still riding with my Bell helmet and the liner isn't removable so, given I sweat at a stoplight, the old brain bucket is getting bit pungent. Tried some carpet deodorant and some baking soda, neither helped much. Anybody found a product that works for this?
  19. If you have ever found your helmet with a bad odor from sweat. Or maybe someone wore your helmet and you don't care for there head lice. You can do what I do and put your melon protector In the dish washer on a short cycle (30 min) with about 1 oz of Shampoo. Just use your strap and tie it around the bottom of the bottom tray and use a safety pin to hold the rest of the strap so it won't lay on the heating element. Just pull the helmet out after the last rinse cycle. You don't need the heating element on to dry the thing. The helmet comes out clean and fresh. Just thought someone else might like to know how to clean one up. Been doing it for years and never thought of posting it until I had to clean mine tonight...................Ron
  20. I'm close to going with an Edset headset rather than J&M Elite...but am somewhat concerned with the size of the unit hanging off the side of the helmet. My current J&M has just a small unit hanging off it that the cord plugs into. The Edset looks to be quite bulky compared to that. Is this an issue to anyone that has one? or is it worth it?
  21. I dunno, maybe it's age (45), or the cruising nature of the venture but I find year by year I am more worried about functional equipment and less worried about how cool I look. Case in point, I just bought a Tourmaster 2 Pivot jacket, it's not leather. See it here: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001A6U9R2/ref=oss_product]Amazon.com: Tour Master Pivot Series 2 Jacket - Small/Yellow: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21sOC3lOcXL.@@AMEPARAM@@21sOC3lOcXL[/ame] I got the yellow one. I've been wearing my reflective vest in the early predawn trips to work, over my leather jacket. But I want to be more visible all of the time. I mostly wear a full face helmet, switching to 3/4 white on warmer days. Always wear a helmet. I just bought my first two pairs of Kevlar lined jeans and khakis (sliders and I love em). But, I'm still an avid snowboarder so, I hope I'm growing up, not old! Maybe it's the pilot in me (hang-gliders mainly) that knows, "there are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots...
  22. I have only started looking and found the HJC IS-16 interesting. Has anyone an opinion on one of these that had worn one? One thing is a I noticed a year ago while skiing is that I develop anxiety with those close fitting sunglasses after about 10 minutes. I am wondering if I will experience the same thing with this helmet. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31%2BqLIkovnL._SL500_AA300_.jpg The attached image will give you an idea of the glasses I had a problem with. Dunno if it has to do with the curvature of the lens or not.
  23. I'm as dumb as a brick when it comes to anything bluetooth. Here's what I'm thinking about doing, and wanted to ask for input on whether it's even possible. I just picked up a Garmin Streetpilot c550 with bluetooth capabilities. It also has the MP3 player. What I wonder is... can I get the Garmin, and a helmet bluetooth head set, and my bluetooth cell phone to interphase with each other? The Garmin addresses the ability to link to the cell phone, but can the helmet set send and receive audio and be the primary controll???????? Anyone ever done this type of set up? I like the Garmin as it has the same sunlight screen as the Zumo550. It is smaller but easier to find a place on a crowded 1stGen dash. Any thoughts would be appreciated....
  24. I have read allot of threads on here about helmets , and not too much talk about helmet ratings. if you wear a dot helmet you are not really very well protected ! I have even seen allot of helmets being sold at bike swap meets and a dot sticker given to you to sick it on the back of the helmet. thats great if you want to wear a 10.00 helmet but you can expect your brains to be sweep up off the pavement with your bike if you go down hard. I say if you have a 10.00 head ware a 10.00 helmet . if you really want to be safe look for a helmet with a Snell rating. see this article for the reasons. Snell Vs. Dot DOT sets minimum standards for helmets, The Snell Memorial Foundation is a private not-for-profit organization that sets voluntary standards for motorcycle helmets, bicycle helmets and auto racing helmets, as well as other kinds of protective headgear. Snell standards are the world's toughest. wearing a dot helmet is like being covered by government health care , do your really want to trust your brain to the government ? so if you decide to wear a helmet at the very least make an educated decision and get a good one. your family may thank you later, if god forbid you ever go down. "I still believe in freedom and cant stand being told what i can and cant do (especially by the government) but remember a government powerful enough to give you every thing you need also has the power to take it away !"
  25. Ok i was reading a thread the other day about showing your helmet and most of the one's i saw on the thread were involved in a accident. now i know the object is to not fall over on your scooter but it happens so i went on a search for a new helmet and i wanted to get some input. i really like this one http://www.hjchelmets.com/images/products/product_images/is33/solid/wine_side2.jpgsince i got a little older and need to wear glasses this seems like a good choise and i like the integrated sun shield. any thoughts and comments are always welcome. Thanks Ron
