  1. I'm looking for a camera to capture my rides. What do you recommend and why? Also would you recommend mounting to the bike, or the helmet or the riders chest?
  2. Greetings ! I am in the process of buying two Nolan N-102 helmets for me and my wife to use on our trip to the USA this coming June. Saves me the extra luggage bringing our helmets from Iceland. I want to have Bluetooth in the helmets but am not sure what to get. Here in Iceland I have the Nolan Bluetooth device in my helmet and it works pretty good apart from that the speakers are lousy to say the least when you play music from the Zumo but I have loaded some music files into the device. Maybe the problem is the transfer of music data from the Zumo to the bluetooth device ?? The GPS and the phone on the other hand has very good sound quality and people I speak with on the phone can hardly believe that I am riding a motorcycle and speaking with them on the phone. Was wondering if any of you have a bluetooth set that would fit the Nolan helmets and has a good sound quality going wireless. I want to be able to be hooked to my GPS, being able to talk to my wife (the other helmet) as well as answering the phone. Is this possible ? Can both helmets answer the phone or can only one helmet take the signal?? Any advice on the bluetooth highly apreciated Would like to avoid going with wire hookup. Friendly regards, Jonas / StarFan

    Victory

I test rode a Victory Vision, and a Victory Cross Country today. The stereo was better on both bikes then on my RSV, seat comfort was good on both, a little better on the Vision but lower on the CC. Handle bar bend seemed funny and bothered my wrists. Vision had turbulence around my helmet even with the screen all the way up. And the Cross Country turbulence was terrible. I never had and turbulence around my helmet on the RSV, even when it had the stock windscreen. Vision seemed very heavy both slow and at speed. Surprisingly the CC was much lighter and more nimble, I thought they had the same frame? FI is nice, engine has lots of torque. But overall, not as good as what I have.
  4. Drove up to Omaha today to go helmet shopping. Didn't find a helmet but did get to look at what the dealer had for Ventures. I was glad we looked. We paid 10,900 for the 2008 with under 1100 miles one it. They had a 2007 with 24k for 13,699!?!?! Two others for around the same price. I think we got a pretty damn good deal! They also had a 2011...damn that was a bright and pretty blue! I like the Venture a lot but damn if I wouldn't have taken the 2011 Vmax home in a heartbeat. Frank
  5. I had the pleasure to work on Jayceesfolly's 89'VR over the winter and we came up with an unusual but effective way to add some additional light to the rear of his bike. The bike came to my "little shop by the creek" missing the right side helmet lock. Jim expressed an interest in getting a lot more light during braking and was not nearly as interested in replacing the helmet lock. I removed the left side helmet lock, and fabbed up a bracket that was mounted on the two "tabs" that held the helmet locks. As you can see in the pics, I used a light bar that has found a home on MANY Second Gen. Motorcycles, as a matter of fact, this particular light bar was slated to be installed on a Second Gen. later this month. I have since had to order another one for the owner. Both Jim and I were pleased at the results, and the light output from this light bar far surpasses the original tail light. So if you can live without your helmet locks, this is an excellent way to add a considerable amount of light for BOTH running lights and brake lights on the rear of a First Gen. PLUS, if you did your shopping for an LED light bar at Maint. Day this year, (with all the Second Gen. bikes that attend) you could add this light bat to your First Gen. for only a few dollars! Enjoy the pics. If you have questions, feel free to PM me, Earl
  6. Does anyone have experience with the Motocrentic Bluetooth helmet Dennis Kirk sells for $237? I can't find any reviews. It uses the Blinc 3 bluetooth.
  7. I apologize, I don't know that much about the Bluetooth helmet headsets, but I like the flexibility with Bluetooth to connect to my phone, GPS, etc. Is there an interface to connect a Bluetooth helmet headset into the RSV intercom, stereo and CB? Being able to do away with that annoying headset cord would be awesome.
  8. For those looking for a new helmet or a modular helmet. Motorcycle Gear (New Enough.com) has their HJC Symax IIs on closeout for 129.99 with free shipping. Thought that was a pretty good price. Other models are also low priced. http://www.motorcyclegear.com/street/closeouts/all_types/hjc/ May want to click through the banner at the top of the page so the site gets credit.
  9. This afternoon at 4:00pm saw a RSV gray and silver traveling south on Jefferson St at Osuna RD. Rider was wearing a white full face helmet, black jacket with a red yoke. Nice clean looking RSV.
  10. Here's a question that I've been wondering about. If you lived in a state where you don't have to wear a helmet, but like to talk on the CB, but don't want to spent the money to by one of those "helmetless" headsets, what are your alternatives? Can you somehow use a mic and cord like the police use ot use? Would the CB transmit trough the speakers and still be able to talk using theis type of setup? Would it even hook up to the RSV system?? If so, where would one look for such a setup??? I would think someone from one of the states where they don't have helmet laws could answer this pretty quick. Well???I know, I know, more than 1 question!!
  11. I'm looking at getting a couple of new helmets for the wife and I. We usually wear half helmets. We would like to start using the headsets since we have the RSV. This is the helmet we like that the stealership has...I like the flipdown sunshades...Anyone have experience with this or suggestions for another one like it? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/38/6973/ITEM/Scorpion-EXO-100-Solid-Helmet.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch Thanks!
  12. I get weekly emails from Motorcycle Gear (old name was New Enough) and they have a great sale going on for new HJC CL-Max Helmets for $64.99. This is a full face, flip up helmet. I bought one for the hubby last year and it's a nice helmet. Just wish I would have gotten that good of a sale on it. Anyway....just wanted to pass along a great deal. I tried to copy and paste it here but to no avail. Website is: www.motorcyclegear.com Deb
  13. Yesterday at the International Motorcycle Show here in Toronto, I saw this new model Gmax open face helmet with some new features that appear to be good ones - you can see the helmet at http://www.g-max.com/gmax/replace-gm67s.html. One of the new features is an optional battery powered led light bar that fits into the back of the helmet and can be turned on or off and can also be synced with the brake lights by way of a small transmitter. A similar light has been available on Gmax snowmobile helmets but from a conversation with guys from the company that makes them, I am told this is the first helmet with these lights for their motorcycle helmets. I am interested in any comments on why this may not be as good a safety option for bikers as it is for the snowmobilers. In addition, this helmet has several other interesting features including a good quality internal sun visor that the rider can flip up or down, built in pockets for headset speakers and a removable chin bar plus more - and the show price was reduced 20% to $79 here in Canada.
  14. This may seem mickey mouse, but I sure like how it works. I purchased two items at a dollar store that had plastic "hooks" attached, as shown in the pictures. As you can see, I hung the hooks on the existing helmet holders on my 88VR. While they obviously don't lock, they sure make it easier to hang my helmets there.
  15. I firmly believe that being visible to other drivers is a matter of survival. I ride at night. I ride in the rain. I even find myself riding at night in the rain. Being visible during these conditions can be greatly improved with little effort or expense. I wear a TourMaster riding jacket that has reflective piping in various areas. You really don't notice it unless a light shines on it. But my helmet, Scorpion EXO 900, has no reflective parts. I decided to correct this design oversight. I purchased a helmet reflective decal set from Applied Graphics, http://www.reflectivedecals.com/arai1a.htm , and applied them to the helmet. They have several different patterns and colors. I bought the black checkered set. The cost was about $30. The application was simple. They say if it is applied correctly, it should last for years. We will see. The reflective properties are excellent as you can see in the photos below. I highly recommend adding some extra reflective material to your riding gear and the Applied Graphics company gets my two thumbs up. :happy34: http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1760.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1759.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1761.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1762.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1768.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1770.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1767.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1765.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1769.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_1772.jpg
  16. Well, New Enough is hacking at me again. They have been offering up some things that I have been wanting to improve on for a while. Today I got the notice on the HJC Sy-Max II going on sale. I've needed to replace my full face helmet, a Vetter I bought when I bought my GL1100, (and no I don't wear it anymore), to something more modern. LOL! I have the HJC Trooper style half helmet that is my daily bucket. Fits great, stays cool and most comfortable helmet I've ever owned. But the colder weather is setting in a full face would be nice. But from what I'm reading the HJC Sy-Max II has some pretty good reviews and has been around for a bit. Now today, they listed one in my size, which is a bear to find and for a decent price. Anyone here own one of these and what are your thoughts on it? The sun visor is one of my main concerns. Nice feature, but seems to be the weak spot in the reviews. Thanks for any comments. Mike
  17. Looking for advice on buying a new helmet. Must be : Full face Snell rated Best ventilated Under $400
  18. The last time my wife rode was about 27 years ago. I recently purchased an 89 VR. The one thing my wife dreads is the helmet hair. She has shoulder length hair and she kinda of rolls her hair into a ball then puts the helmet on. My questions is, in 27 years, has there been any new hair tricks for women who hates Helmet hair.
  19. Are there anyone recommendations for helmet communication systems? More interested in something that's built in, (comes with the helmet).
  20. I have 99RSV and I am recieving well over the CB but when I transmit they say it is very weak, but if I talk loud they say they can hear me better. It used to work OK but lately the problem started. I'm using a new Nolan 103 helmet with the J&M headset, Any sugestions.
  21. Hello Everyone: My wife and I got away for the long weekend. Left our home in Western NE. rode to Saratoga Wyoming then on to Craig CO, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Fort Collins, Cheyenne WY and home. Approx 800 miles. Witnessed a seasoned motorcyclist drift too close to the edge of the blacktop on a curve in downtown Craig CO. His tires rolled into the 4" deep gutter at about 30 MPH. Nasty spill. All over in 15 seconds. Thanks to a full face helmet, leather coat and full finger gloves he walked away with only bruised knuckles. It could happen to anyone of us at anytime.
  22. Anyone have a left side helmet holder you'd part with? I know my key probably wouldn't fit it but that's ok since I don't use them anyway. I put on a strip light and used the helmet holders to secure it and didn't check to keep them tight and the left one fell off. I would like to get it back original if possible. PM me if you have an extra. (06 RSV) Thanks. Bill
  23. Anyone know if a head set is made to be used without a helmet or a half helment. And what kind do you think has better sound I thought about the yamaha ones. But somtimes I do not wear a helmet when going for a short ride. And would like to purchase a half helmet, So would like to find a headset that could do both. Or is that a pipe dream.
  24. This morning, got to try out the Nolan X-1002 helmet, Condor so graciously sold me. Fits perfectly and has a lot less wind noise than my HJC IS-Max. After supper, I made a Wally-World run, on the scoot. When I got there, I had a "" moment. The new helmet has a quick release buckle on the chin strap. In other words, no "D" ring to hook on the helmet lock. So, this time the trunk was empty and I just locked the helmet in there. How many others here have this predicament? Short of putting your, like this, helmet in the trunk, how do you secure it?
  25. Ok, to start this off. Those who don't know me should know that I have a rather large mellon on my shoulders. So consiquently it's hard for me to find a helmet to fit properly especially a full face or modular helmet. Every one I tried on would push back on my chin uncomfortably so I have worn a 1/2 or 3/4 for the past 6 years. After going over the 100,000 mile milestone on my RSV I got to thinking just how lucky I have been not to have been in a major MC accident or a minor one for that matter. The wife has been talking lately about going to a half helmet because of the heat or at least a 3/4 and I am somewhat ok with the 3/4, I am adamatly against her wearing a 1/2. Being the hypocrite that I am I used the excuse of my abnormally large "MELLON" as the excuse for my choice in helmet. Putting all that together and I decided to get a Zeus Modular helmet and give it a try. Several years ago I tried on a Zeus XL at Myrtle Beach Bike Week and although it was a bit snug it did have chin room, more so than any other helmet I have ever put on. So after much deliberation I pulled the trigger and ordered a 3XL (told you it was a big mellon) Zeus ZS 508W helmet and here is my take on this $90.00 Modular helmet. The helmet came with two helmet bags and extra hardware. Right out of the box I noticed that it had a pretty good finish on it. The flip mechanism worked easy and I was anxious to pull it over my head. The helmet slipped on like it was made for me, plenty of room inside(in fact I had to wear a schampa head rag to get that perfect fit feel). Now for the real test, closing the chin bar. When I dropped and locked the chin bar I was surprised to find about an inch to and inch and a half distance from the helmet to my chin. So far so good. Next thing I noticed was there was a lot of room around my ears, enough in fact for a headset with room to spare. The helmet feels sturdy as does the locking mechanism. Rode to work this morning and although it took some getting used to I really enjoyed the helmet. Lets get the bad out of the way first off. Over 55MPH I started getting wind noise, it wasn't terrible but it was noticable and coming from around the face shield at the top. I closed all vents to make sure and it made no difference at all. Like I said it wasn't terrible but after things being quite for the low speed it was noticable. I usually wear ear plugs with my half and 3/4 anyway so no big deal for me. That was it for the bad. The Good: No wind buffeting at all. (Most of my helmets have moderate buffeting) Vents seemed to work well, I could feel cool air on top of my head with them open. Chin vent directed air to face shield and kept it realativly fog free. Face shield has several detent and locks securely in each one. Fairly large view port so you don't get that claustraphobic feeling. Plenty of room for sun glasses. No undue pressure on your ears. Easy one handed operation. Optional Dual Lense Face Shield Optional Dual Lense "Electric" Fog Free Face Shield If I were to give it an overall grade I would give it a A-. Here is a link to a review of thier first gen modular.http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/zeus-helmet/zeus-helmet.htm I just read on their site that the 2009 model is SNELL certified. That's a first for a Modular I do believe. Here a a few pics of my helmet minus the neck roll. I hate those things. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c72b7a22.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/7b213680.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c3bc19e9.jpg
