  1. Today, for a Patriot Guard Mission, I rode over 220 miles in temps that hovered slightly above 20F. Never again am I gonna freeze my tail off like that on the road again! Ordered mahself a heated jacket liner and heated gloves within 20 minutes after getting home and thawing out. Now I have to figger how to make my scoot more safe/stabil on snow/ice.....
  2. I was bored today and my mind was wandering and somehow I wandered onto this question. OK so I know that the 2nd gens have heated carbs, but how do they work? I didn't see anything in the owners manual. I am not having any problems, just curiosity.:puzzled:
  3. Hi everyone, I am a new member/poster and need some info if someone can help. I am seriously considering the purchase of an 08' RSV and need to know the alternator output (amps) of the bike. The dealer for whatever reason can't answer my question and there is no info on Yamaha's website. I plan on installing heated grips, heated aftermarket seat, extra power outlets (for heated clothing and Ipod), and driving/fog lamps. It is possible all of these items will be "on" at the same time and I need to make sure the bike can handle these accessories without any battery drain before I make my purchase. Thanks in advance. BTW: Excellent forum and members.
  4. I have been looking at heated clothes and talked to one guy that told me year one or something like that sold some that were reasonable but I cant find them anyone hear of them?? I dont want to spend a ton of money just dont want to freeze to death on the bike. Thanks Kevin
  5. The wifie always gets cold and saw some heated clothing and gloves and the local leather shop. Now she thinks this the answer to her problem. Do these items really work or do I have to trailer a generator with welding cables to power them up? Thanks
  6. I have a couple of questions. 1. I have a power strip close to the battery that I installed last year. I have the horn relay, alarm, amp, zumo, and a couple of other things. I’m thinking about putting another strip up under the faring. So that I don’t have to pull wires under the tank and to clean up a few things in that area. Anyone else have a power strip up front? 2. I like to ride during the winter and this year I will definitely have some heated gloves and maybe some heated socks. The only thing that really gets cold is my hands and feet. Any suggestions? What power requirements/hook up will I need?
  7. Last month I was looking into heated clothing for the wife and also looking at power consumption on each brand . I ran across Wingstuff.com looking at the good deal for the Tour Master Senergy Heated Jacket liner . Of course her size is on backorder . Today I received a phone call from Wingstuff to let me know the status rather than an e-mail . That was nice of them and I considered it good customer service . Talking with them , I asked as there was no place that I found on how much power they drew . They let me know that they just placed a chart up on their site . I thought I would share it with you . http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/20174_Synergy_Motorcycle_Electric_Clothing_Sizing_Chart These liners use carbon fiber elements rather than wire elements that get better results . Here's a copy of the chart . BEER30
  8. NEWTrk wants to replace the stock grips with some new ones that are a little bigger in diameter. If you have replaced your grips he is looking for some reviews of what you replaced your stock grips with, and if you the replacements them or not. BTW - We're in Oklahoma so he is not looking at heated grips. Thanks in advance....
  9. While I was at our fellowship gathering after church, I saw a church member that I know rides an HD Ultra. Since it has been cold here in Cincinnati, I asked him if he has been riding his bike. He said some. I innocently asked, if he has been wearing HEATED GLOVES? He looked at me a bit strangely and replied that he was TOO MUCH OF A MAN to wear heated gloves. So I said, Most of the real men I know have hands, and in the winter their hands seem to be more comfortable in the cold with heated gloves. He had nothing else to say. Then I got to thinking, most of the HD people I see ride by wear gloves even in the hot weather, so much for fellowship. I guess I need to tell him to GET A GRIP. Peggy
  10. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/225.gif any advice on heated grips for a 83 venture?
  11. I can not wait for winter to be over any longer. I need to get this thing out on the road to see if my long hours in the garage have paid off or not. Went out and bought a pair of heated gloves, and a heated vest from tour master Synergy. What is the best way to tell if my charging system and computer will hold up to these items?, besides watching the voltmeter, which i seem to recall some not holding much stock in? I have read the entire set of instructions that came with the clothing and can't seem to find anything on how much draw these things have . Perhaps if someopne on here has these items and a first gen you could let me know how it worked out for you. By the way i have the stock stator on my bike; all lights have been switched to led ,only add-ons consist of low voltage passing lamps and 2 -10 inch led light bars.
  12. Hi. What brand of heated grips have y'all used? I've used Hot Grips and they are good, but after a few years the rubber started wearing out and now the wires are showing and the rubber is sticky, and I need a new $100 set of grips. Maybe that's just what happens with rubber. Is there anything else out there? Anything that had a cheaper replacable cover? Thanks, Jeremy
  13. Today I got the tourmaster heated vests I ordered long ago. I hooked them both up interested in the draw on my electrics. I could not find any info on the amp draw but figured them to be the same as the competition. Well they are not. Each vest with collar draws 4.5 amps which was a lot more. Anyway I got them hooked up and they are toasty warm. I cranked both on high and kicked on the heated grips with the bike running in the garage (rained today) and even at idle the kuryakyn volt meter stayed in the green. I wont know for sure till i can run it all on high for a extended time but so far it looks good. Btw, i dont run driving lights. Looks like I'll be staying toasty!
  14. Stopped by the dealership and saw something that impressed me enough to pass on the info here. Heated vest, chaps and gloves. I tried them on and they will get the job done. Vest and chaps are water proof and some sort of nylon type material. Gloves are leather with fur inside and very comfortable. All three items have individual controls and can be used as a single item or interconnected to each other so that only one plug need to be attached to the battery. Very cool. Prices: Gloves, $139.00, Vest $129.00 and chaps were $149.00. For the women in the crowd who are always cold, put them in a Joe Rocket for First Gear outfit along with these heated goodies and they will be having a heat stroke in the dead of winter.
  15. As long as its above freezing and I have a reasonable expectation of arriving dry, I'll ride to work. Last year, the cold started getting to my hands. I wore pretty good gloves with a separate glove liner. In the low to mid 30's, my fingers still got cold and the combination glove/liner was so thick it was hard to hit switches and the throttle was harder to control. I thought about heated grips, but I wasn't too sure about how to change them out. I didn't want to spend $100+ and find out they didn't fit or just felt wrong. I had seen some heated wraps and I think Goose made a home-made set of wraps but I wanted something a little more permanent. I may have found my solution. I bought a DualStar Heated Grip Kit. http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Rider/heated_grip_kit1.htm I also bought Grip Puppies. http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GPLARGE&Category_Code=grips I don't have a real problem with the stock grips, but I figured a little more size for these big hands and a little more padding couldn't hurt. I simply stuck the heating elements on top of my stock grips and put the puppies over everything. It was in the low 40's this morning. I rode without the glove liners and with the heaters on low. Once in a while I had to open my grip a little to let some air in to cool things down a bit. Time will tell if the foam holds up to the heat ok, but for now, I love what I've got! My wife's hands get cold real easy. She is a little reluctant to ride in what I consider just cool weather. I think I may get a set and put them on the rear grab bars. Might give us a few more ride days.
  16. Does anyone here ride with a heated jacket liner? If so, how did you run the electrical connections and what type/brand of jacket are you using? Since I try to ride to work when ever the temps are above freezing I'm thinking I could extend to those high 20's days with a heated jacket. What are your thoughts? Dennis
