  1. The title says it all........ this was on my way into work yesterday..... burrrrrrrrrrr. Gotta love a heated jacket liner and gloves from Gerbing. Now to figure out how to keep my eyeglasses from fogging up as I only have a 1/2 helmet.
  2. Hi, Well I got my new to me 2004 Midnight Royal Star Venture home this afternoon from Calgary, AB to Red Deer, AB. Wow! Do I love this bike. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the RSV. There was no owners manual with it but I downloaded the PDF owners manual from here. Thank you very much for that. I have a question. This bike has heated grips. The person I bought the bike from didn't install them. Are they stock or would they have been installed by the original owner? I didn't think the RSV had heated grips. Thank you in advance.
  3. For all you Gl1800 Goldwing people I have a really nice heated Corbin Seat that's like new in the classifieds. Check it out: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3153
  4. Its my understanding that the 1st gen is rather limited in electrical capacity. Is there a way to improve this? I guess a new stator with slighty more power but dont you run into destroying your wiring. Is there another way to get upgraded power to other items heated seats grips etc. Like a transformer or something with its own wiring system? I dont know much about electricity so I'm sending out the challange to those out of the box thinkers that do.
  5. I was wondering if anyone installed heated grips for the passenger on the grab bars? is there any way of adding such a thing? when my wife and I ride colder days her hands get really cold and she ends up riding with snowmobile mittens, this eliminates her ability to grab anything. I figured that if I could give her a heated grip that would solve a lot of issues. Any ideas?
  6. Am planning an early June trip to Colorado this coming summer...Going to be a bit chilly riding a few of those passes I imagine.. was thinking of a heated vest for my better half, but wondered if the electrical output of my 84 first gen is enough... I was thinking no, but thought I check with the folks here.. Anyone early first gen riders familiar with this...??? Thanks, Clay
  7. Does any of you use the electric clothing made by Widder or Gerbing? My question, Is the RSV electrical system big enough to sustain a jacket, pants, gloves, and insoles that are heated? Any help with this question will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. Has anyone put or made a heated seat for a venture?
  9. Has anyone seen these Rechargeable Heated Boots? http://www.columbia.com/Bugathermo/Bugathermo_Landing,default,pg.html They are supposed to last for 8 hours, and your toosties are suppose to be warm. Yama Mama
  10. Spent last evening in the garage installing the wiring for my newly acquired heated jacket liner, gloves, and dual portable remote on my VR and Ultra. If you saw an earlier post which I asked for input from all the heated gear users here, I ordered from http://www.warmnsafe.com/ I rechecked my connections this morning and went for a little ride towards Altoona, PA. ended up a 107 mile round trip on the Ultra. The air temp was 43 degrees as measured by the gauge in my fairing. At 70mph on RT99/220 I was chilled, turned on the jacket liner to full power and within several minutes I was too hot. Turned the knob slowly to 1/8 power and results perfect , with my feet out on the highway pegs, I was comfortable. The gloves at 43 degree where to warm when powered on even with the adjustment knob at the lowest setting. So they should be perfect when the temp drops some. The great part no bulky clothing. I was wearing a long sleeve t-shirt, heated liner, and leather jacket, chaps, 3/4 helmet with shield up. My riding season has just been extended! Now to take out the VR and see how the charging system handles the added electrical drain. Looking back, I should have made this purchase years ago....thanks again for the responses Regards Dave
  11. Just curious if any member uses electrically heated riding gear on A lst Edition? I have had a full set of Warm Gear sold by Cozy Winters for some time but have never used it. I am planning on a Big Bend Texas ride next month and I expect the weather will get pretty darn cool, low to mid thirties and would like to use at least part of the gear. I was thinking bout using only the jacket (100 watts) and the socks (40 watts) and am not sure that would over tax the charging system of a lst Gen. Since most riding will be during day light hours, no other electrical accessories will be used (driving lights). Any advise?
  12. Doing some routine mintenance since we had all this rain and I found the wires to my heated grips broken. Tried to pull back and the connections actualy came off. I never really liked the grips I have and this might be a good time to replace them. Does anyone have a set of heated grips that are a little larger than stock that they've had luck with? the ones I have now are to thin, would like soomething a little larger in diameter? I looked in J&P and saw nothing?????
  13. 38034.1 Looking to buy a heated jacket liner and gloves, did a search, but did not see a comparison of : warm & safe heated clothing or gerbing heated clothing So has anyone had both , if so, which brand and why... Regards
  14. Sometimes I wonder if a Goldwing would be a better option just because it has heated seat, grips, and vents that can blow some heat on you in cold temps. Having not ridden a venture in cold weather yet, do you stay warm on a venture in cold weather? Or do you need to add some heated features to the venture to stay warm on it? Is it possible to add heat to a venture? Will the electrical system on the venture easily handle heated seats or grips?
  15. Rider really going Yamaha this month. Nice piece on FJR 1300. I hat to say this but if I were going New Bike I would have to look at that thing. Without the Auto tranny. Heated seat, heated grips, Adjustable windshield, Bags& trunk with liners. About $15,000. Interesting......
  16. I know its hot weather and no need for heated cloths, but I like to ride in cold weather too. My question is, does Yamaha make a heaver duty alternator? The reason is my bike will not keep the battery charged with my wife and I wearing our Gerbing's heated coats and gloves. Seems like a touring bike would provide ample power for heated cloths. Don't get me wrong I love my RSV and would not trade it for any other on the market. Any help in this matter would be a great help, I know ya'll are a great bunch of people and I'm honored to be a part of this forum. Mike
  17. I've been lurking here for sometime now and I want to thank all of you that have posted some great advice. I have an 83 venture royale thats been a great bike. I have owned for it about 4 years now. I had some troubles on my next to last ride about a month ago coming back from Pigeon Forge Tenn. over heated twice. Once while riding down the interstate. Also clutch went away when over heated on the highway. Also gas milage was low 35 mpg consistently. Anyways flushed out clutch fluid, drained radiator replaced antifreeze, added purple ice super coolant and synced carbs at idle. Current state clutch is good now, ran alot cooler this last trip 732 miles ( although it did rain on me coming back home for about 270 miles (yuck lol) and the gas mileage measured about 42.5 to 44.3 in good weather. now i have to flush and change out the brake fluid. Lots of effort to stop. One other thing... has any of you guys ever seen the rain beat the plastic covering off of the windscreen? mine had a couple of bad places where it was flaking off but now i just have a few strips of coating left on it running from top to bottom. But anyways thanks again.
  18. I'm going to be taking my whole fork assembly off and putting on a rebuilt setup, and replacing all the brake lines, calipers, and master cylinders aswell. I could use an extra pair of hands or two gettring things done and making sure I don't accidently drop Goldie on the cold hard concrete floor in the process. The garage is heated, there is half a case of Mexican beer in the garage, and I wil buy pizza and wings for nourishment. I'm thinking next Saturday to get started. If anybody is bored or would like to help, come on over...

    Took A Ride This Weekend

Well this last weekend I got out my MRSV and went down to see my sister in Eugene, OR. Since I live in Vancouver, WA. it was a nice long ride. This was finally the chance to really check out my new vmax gears and my WarmGear ensamble. Going down their I had a brutal head wind, and just a few places of misting rain. I thought that was a great test for my heated gear, because I stayed nice and toasty all the way down. On the way back It rained like Noah was coming back, but at least I had a nice tail wind. The heated gear worked great both ways. It really kept me warm and comfortable. Let me tell you about those fantastic gears. I absolutely love my new gears. I feel that this is really the way this bike should have come from the factory. I had to always downshift when passing on the highway before the gears, but now, just a quick twist of the throttle and you are flat gettin around vehicles. It's almost scarey what the new gears do for the bike. Any way I just thought that some of you folks would like to know about the rear gears and heated WarmGear.

    Heated Gear And Day Ride

Well, I finally got all my heated gear on yesterday and took the bike out for a day ride. It sucks here in the north west due to one day of riding weather and 6 days of lousy weather; oh well, better than not riding at all. Any way with the new upgraded stator and vmax rear end gears, it was an awesome ride. I can't say enough about the new gears. The power to weight performance is such a vast improvement. So as far as riding gear I have: WarmGear jacket liner, WarmGear pants liner, WarmGear gloves and Gerbing heated insoles, along with the WarmGear heat troller. Btw, I think that WarmGear and FirstGear is made by the same company, doing a side by side comparison they look exactly the same other than the logos. With the new stator I did not have any problem losing voltage or draining the battery.

    Heated ensemble

Ok folks; yesterday my wife told me that my "WarmGear" ensemble arrived at the house. Since I work at Mcchord AFB in Tacoma, I have to wait till tomorrow to open it and check out the new stuff. I have read quite a bit about the different offerings out their on the web site, but last year my wife bought me the warmgear gloves for my birthday and so I thought that I would get the rest of the ensemble to match. I wanted to get the socks but they are sold out. A buddy of mine from work told me about a place in Lakewood, WA. thats sells heated clothing (Eagle Leathers) so I popped in there yesterday and found that Gerbing sells heated insoles for boots and bought some for $59.00. Today I went into the local Triumph store in lakewood and they sell "firstGear". I think that WarmGear and FirstGear are made by the same company, because if you look at their stuff side by side it looks exactly the same. Anyway I can't wait to get it all wired on the bike and me, and then go check it out, which will be tomorrow.
  22. Hey all, I recently came across a good deal on a used heated vest from a friend. I have been looking for a heat-troller from warm&safe. I'd rather not use the belt pouch or semi mounts if at all possible, but I'm not quite sure where to mount it to the bike. I've got an 07' RSTD. Anyone out there have any suggestions on placement? Thanks. Bjmstar82
  23. I've been a member here for a few years and have met a lot of folks at Don's Maintenance Day and on Meet-N-Eats and the Asheville Rally, but unfortunately my "site time" is sporadic and I mostly lurk (I am not nearly as clever and humorous in my limited contributions as many others are). I ride year round (to work) unless there is snow/ice on the road. My hands were always the part of me I couldn't keep comfortably warm. I tried heated grips but the tops of my hands and fingers still got cold. I was going to buy heated gloves, but was not attracted to the thought of every morning and every evening having to pull the connecting wires down through the sleeves to plug the gloves in and containing the spaghetti wiring harness inside my jacket like loose intestines. I read as many other posts as I could find (on site and off) regarding making your own heated clothing. I did a lot of thinking and planning and procrastinating and built up the courage to buy parts and put holes in a perfectly good riding jacket. I documented the experience with the intent of putting it on the site so that anyone else (cheap like me) feeling adventurous and possessing opposable thumbs with an aptitude to follow instructions might want to follow suit. Essentially for the cost of heated gloves and about $50 in electrical parts I built the spaghetti wires permanently inside my armor jacket and put radiator-like heat in the jacket liner. The attached instructions are a kind of long, but include pictures and hopefully enough detail that someone could tailor the procedure to their particular jacket, gloves, and requirements without a great deal of re-inventing the wheel. 24. Question: Whats the agreed upon best heated grip option for a 1st Gen. ??? Something I been meaning to do, seems like a good project for the next couple of weeks. What works best?
