    Eat Crow

Ok I’m going to have to say it but this 07 is faster, has a more responsive throttle and handles much better then my 03 Midnight. Also has a better radio, on my 03 I had to have the volume on 24 to hear the music out of the bikes speaker @ 70 mph, well I went on my break-in ride yesterday (340 miles) and I could hear the music with the volume set at 18, man what a bike. And like HIDRSV it’s PRETTY! Had some popping so I plugged the AIS and installed the Stebel Crome Nautilus which I ordered Wednesday morning and received yesterday, fast shipping from CALIFORNIA SPORT TOURING
  2. Riding season is winding down for some of us. So lets hear it? Whats your winter project? I got a 86 to part out and a 99 to paint.

    Full moon

Must be a full moon judging by the posts. Anyother wack cases...let's hear from you.
  4. I am checking out various GPS units. The boss is not going to approve a $500.00 unit. I don't care about the MP3 or XM on the Garmin. I already have both. There appear to be several in the $250-$300 range. I have two questions - First - how are you wiring these? Are you just using the lighter adpater or battery for power or are you hard wiring them? Secondly, if I'm going to be using a GPS it will most likely be riding two up with my wife. We will have communicator using the factory plug. We also have MP3 player coming through the speakers. How do you manage to hear voice prompts from your GPS? Can you tap in to the communicator line? Are these loud enough so that you can hear them anyway? Thanks for any help!
  5. I have a couple questions. I have a 07 RSV. Just got my 2 sets of J&M Elite 584 Series headsets. Is there anyone in (preferably) Edmonton that can install these in full face Shoei helmets. Anyone hear that knows how to install them professionally knows that there is some cutting to do. I am not comfortable in doing it. There is some pretty stiff plastic in the ear area. I am hoping that there is someone hear that has done this a few times and has gotten over being uncomfortable doing the install. Thanks, Greg

  7. Okay, I just violated all the safety rules and went for a spin without my helmet, I have been playing with the transmission noise on my new 2007 Venture for some time now and my results are quite good. There is still a small whine, will explain what that is in a minute, but the gear box noise is gone.........bye.......non existent, and that high ear grinding noise at interstate speeds......hey I can hear the pipes now!! First let me tell all of you I am not any kind of expert, and in no way know it all, what I have done I will not recommend to any of you, this is simply what I have done, I really do not think it will harm the engine, if it does, I will go get a new one!! I am just telling you what I have done and it is based on some good research, not opinions, nope, everyone has one of those, sometimes I have two or three:sign20:. I have based on the formula of 4 quarts of oil, 128 ounces total, and the fact that Yamaha tells us to use 3.91 quarts with a filter change, I have dropped the .01 as that makes my brain hurt, and used simply 3.90. We used to run the road racers 3 ounces low on purpose. If some math expert figures out I am .0001 off over or under, sorry, I am a common sense person, hey might be .001 more or less in a different brand filter, do not worry about such minor things!! So I have used 3 quarts of Castrol 20W50 Syntec Blend 17 ounces of Castrol standard 50 weight 12.5 ounces of Lucas Oil additive. For a total of 125.5 ounces of total volume in the unit. I used the main oil base of a Synthetic blend as I did not want a full Synthetic, a full Synthetic I am told by those I have pestered to death in the oil industry at high temps, is designed to flow into the small spaces in any engine and lubricate them, it goes to its lowest viscosity when it gets hot........it also coats on the parts better than regular oils.......a balance of the two is to use a blend. I added the standard 50 weight to try to beef up the base oil some, I had already found out I had to be careful using too heavy an oil, and the Lucas oil additive causes all this to cling to the transmission gears and as far as I can tell it is doing well. I have not took it out on a long jaunt, got it hot yet, going to do that this Saturday. Again do not do this until I put a few miles on it, this is something I have done, like I have told you, I am no expert, I am just someone who looks at things when they get so technical no one can understand them, and so much discussion surrounds simple things, I tend to throw all that stuff in the round file and use common sense. Now after all this and my test ride just a bit ago. I do still have a high pitched whine , not a gear whine, but something else. I listened to that at idle, took it around the block again, hit the interstate for a bit and it was gone, I could even listen to the pipes on the interstate, slow down and could hear a whine, idle it and rev it a bit , hear the whine........got one of my wifes stethascopes (how do you spell that anyway? ) it is the thing the doctor listens to your ticker with, I use one to find water leaks under a concrete slab with sometimes. Fellows this residual whine is the pistons moving up and down in the block, you can actually hear it increase and decrease as you vary the motor speed at idle. Will let you know after tomorrow.......but the heavier oil , and Lucas additive, has taken 90 percent of it away. The residual whine is the motor working......I personally kinda like it.....sounds like power to me!! Gave my fancy mustang to my youngest son for this past Christmas, it had that power whine, tis a pretty one to. Bright Yellow, this is to me what the remaining noise is. Take Care, all things have variables, this has worked for me, I think it will for others also, just let me put a few miles on it.....I also live in the south, what I have done may not be good for a motor where it gets cold, be very aware of that fact. 8. A while back I posted about a whining sound I would get going around a right hand curve at speed. Well, I cured it! Turns out it was the rear tire. Even though the tire was not worn out, I had to replace it due to a leak from a nail. I put the same brand/size back on (Avon Venom X) a couple weeks ago and I no longer hear that whine. On another note (and referencing other posts) I also had a whining gear noise during deceleration. Others have stated they have this too. Well, I cured that also! Yesterday I went out for a ride and I donned my wife's helmet (3/4) instead of my own (1/2) and I could hardly hear the gear whine on deceleration! Guess I'm in for a new helmet
  9. I want to be able to plug this Garmin Zumo 550 into my audio plug in on my cassette so I can hear the voice prompts through the speakers or through my headset. Does anyone know if this unit is capable of doing that as I don't think I will be able to hear the voice prompts as the bike is running. Help
  10. Can hear but not transmitting, any ideas why not? Thanks for any help
  11. i get a noise that sounds like a bad tire after 80klicks tire nearly new and wheel bearing new . if i lean forward i dont hear it but if i lean back i hear it . really annoying. has anyone heard of such a noise.
  12. When ever I connect my GPS to my Aux, I can hear it clearly if it is only on its battery power. However, if I connect the GPS to the Cig Lighter via its power cable, RPM noises over come the sound of the GPS. Even through my headset I can not hear it properly if powered other then its own battery power. Any idea how I can fix this? Thanks
  13. I've been looking at Motolights over the weekend, and I got's the hots to put a set on my RSV! Anybody running Motolights (stock 35W version) along with the OEM passing lights? I'm thinking my charging system might be challenged but want to hear what others may have to say. I make it out to be an added 5 or 6 amps to add the Motolights. Smokee

    Radios and XM

I've had my 84 VR for a week now. The day of the purchase required a 400 or so mile ride to get it back to Sheridan from Cheyenne (and wouldn't you know, the day after I get it home, another VR comes up for sale in Billings, less than 2 hours away). So far, the CLASS is working fine, the Venture Cruise works, with a 5 MPH drift at times, and this one already has 2nd popping out so I know tranny work is in store for the winter. And the radio works, when it wants to. At the dealership, the salesman was very open about what he knew of the bike, and showed me that the cassette was a dead horse by plugging a tape into it. But as he did, the radio went dead too. The amplifier was still live as we could hear the speakers softly pop whenever we tried to turn the radio on. But no display and no sound. So I rode it home anyway. Near Buffalo, I fiddled with the power/volume switch a couple of times and the radio came back on. And since then, it has dropped off by itself during a ride, but fiddling with the switch got it back. The cassette is a lost cause, I'm convinced. I'm going to add XM and I saw the link to the site for mounting kits (although they seem aimed more at Sirius), but I'd like to hear from anyone who has already added XM.
  15. When the bike is not running lauri and i can talk fine to each other, but when I start the bike lauri barley hear me and i can barley hear her along with alot of noise coming thought the headset its almost like hearing the coils on the bike talking thought the headset. I thought it was just my new headset and i try two diffrent ones with the same results. is there a filter to put somewhere to block that? Also i havent tuned it and not to sure how to do that i have a SWR meter a old one but should work fine. i been surffing the web would one of these power filters work http://www.premiere-electronics.net/store/powercords.html
  16. Anyone here use this stuff? It looks good but would love to hear from someone that has tried it. http://www.saeng.com/4000.htm
  17. My wife and I finally got our headsets and here is what happened. Purchased IMC HS-G30 for the 07 RSMV 1. We can both hear the music in both speakers but we can't hear each other. 2. Volume is turned up for the units front and back on the intercom setting. 3. Are we not doing something wrong? We may need to meet with another venture rider in the area and let them plug into my bike to see if it is the headsets or the intercom. Any help is greatly appreciated....Steve
  18. Have any of you replaced your antenna with a 2' antenna? I have studied the Marshal Mod and don't know why a 2' top loaded antenna would not work. I have an 89' VR with a single antenna. I will be interested to hear your experiences. Even 2nd gens, because the cb part works the same, just no splitter. Thanks, Alan..
  19. I've been having problems with the original head sets ('01) shorting out and not working most of the time, so I replaced them with a couple of "Chatter Box" head sets. Well, here's the problem... the rear set can send but not receive (she can't hear a dang thing I say, but I can hear everything she says!). Consequently, the problem must be in the wiring for the back set. Can a person with little or no (me) mechanical abiltiy replace the back part of the intercom system?
  20. I remember seeing somewhere where someone used some sorta tractor boots in place of the Yamaha fork boots anyone hear of this?
  21. The title says it all, Our Local news station wants to warn us all not to behave like the actors in the movie. Link to the broadcast on the web. http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/myfox/MyFox/pages/sidebar_video.jsp?contentId=2579267&version=1&locale=EN-US Would like to hear your comments on what they had to say on this topic. David
  22. I have a 2006 RSTD with 5K miles on it. When I corner or weave the bike on a straight road I hear a roar from the rear of the bike. Your help would:confused24: be appreciated.
  23. As I wait for some riding weather I've been reading through the owners manual. I can't believe Yamaha's suggested shift speeds for break in. I'm interested to hear how others road during the break in period and tips.
