  1. My '83 Royale did not come with a CB and/or intercom but I would like to add one. I have a OEM working radio without headset jack. What would I need to install this on my bike? Does anyone have this and want to part with it? Thanks!
  2. Ok, my question is simple,I think. I am presently using a VOX modular helmet and will soon be going to a gmax modular helmet. Do I need a specific type of headset or will any work for both helmets. I am also not sure if I kneed a headset for a 3/4 helmet, full face helmet or what. Any info would be greatly appreciated. David
  3. Hi, My 87 VR has had a problem with the rider's headset level adjustment (on the left handlebar). Symptoms: When turned all the way up it sounds fine. I would just use this setting, but it has more engine whine that way. As I turn it down notch by notch, the left speaker goes down more than the right, so it sounds like the music is shifting to the right. The second-highest notch (with the big dot) still sounds good in this regard; the shift is small at that point. Sometimes the sound starts breaking up, like a slightly bad cell phone connection. This is exacerbated by bumps or rough pavement. It never cuts out completely. Again, this does not apply to the max level. Wiggling the attenuator knob does not affect either symptom. Only applies to rider's headset. Passenger's has none of these symptoms. Dash speakers work fine. I don't really understand how these attenuators work. I thought of it as a variable resistor, but that doesn't make sense because if you unplug the attenuator line where it ties into the headset line, the level goes to max. I thought the level would go to zero with a broken circuit. At any rate, I've cleaned that connection and the attenator knob. Clearly something is loose due to the "bump" behavior. Help! Ideas? Anybody seen this before? Is the problem in the knob or its box and circuit card, or in the cable somewhere? Thanks, Jeremy
  4. Anyone know where to get intercom headset cables? I really need the long one that goes to the passenger location but would like both. Anything I can find does not want to fit as they are not the tight right angle that is needed to fit in that spot.
  5. Hey everyone. Great forum! I'm shopping for headsets for my wife and I. I've been looking at the J&M 279's (we both have modulars. I've also been intrigued by the bluetooth headsets. I love the idea of being able to use my phone, however, I would like to tie into the onboard system as well. I ride solo a lot on several different bikes. Is there a bluetooth headset that also integrates with the onboard intercom and my wifes hardwired heaset? Thanks!
  6. I'm looking for a pinout diagram for a J&M headset. I have an universal headset that has an 8 pin mini DIN connector and I need to have a 5 pin DIN for the bike. J&M uses an 8 pin mini on the headset and then uses a short 8 pin upper cable. Then you just purchase the lower cable that matches your bike so the lower cable will have a 8 pin mini DIN at one end and a 5 pin DIN at the other I need to know what pin goes to each other. It's for a 2008 RSV and yes I know I should just go buy a new lower cord but it's the principal of it just to say I can do it.
  7. Ok, this might be the answer to the question nobody ever asks, but here it goes anyway. My wife has always complained about the location of the rear headset connector, on the left side of the trunk. When plugging into the headset jack, the cable ultimately seems to come loose due to the upward pull on the straight connector. In the end the female socket broke out of the bracket and went intermittent. So the initial fix was to plug the intermediate cable of the headset into connector under the seat and routing the cable up next to the back rest. This solved the loose connector issue but introduce a different problem. By doing this you actually circumvent the handheld controller with the CB control and volume function. Which wasn't too bad until we invested into some nicer, modular helmets. Now the volume difference was very noticeable, I am almost deaf as it is, so turning up the master volume was the only way for me to hear the intercom. This made the wife's ears ring, as she has much better hearing left then I do. I cranked the volume on the front handlebar controller all the way up, but it was not enough to create enough bias front to rear. The ultimate solution (at least for us) can be seen in the pictures below. I bought a 5-pin DIN MIDI Extension Cable of EBay for a few $'s, you can also look for an AT Keyboard Extension Cable. I cut the cable in half as the shortest one I could find was around 6'. Then I removed the controller bracket of the trunk with four TORX screws holding it on and soldered the female extension side in parallel with the headset socket. As far as I know the cable colors are none standard, so I used a Ohm Meter to map the wires to the existing socket, which actually uses 6 wires with the shield. I insulated everything and replaced the strain relief to the grommet to include the new connector. The controller bracket was remounted and the headset intermediate cable was plugged into the new female connector and routed up the back rest. Now the wife can set her own headset volume using the volume control on the rear CB controller. I can set the bias between Satellite radio, Intercom and CB in the front and leave the volume on the handlebar controller untouched, she can set her own master volume in the rear using the rear CB controller. This should hopefully make riding more enjoyable until I have get under the knife for double knee surgery in May... Klaus
  8. I have a Shoei RF1000 full face helmet that I want to install the J&M 279ff headsets into. My problem is how to install the mic. The front liner doen't look like it comes out. Anyone ever install a headset in this helmet? Thanks for any help.
  9. My 89 venture has a problem. When my wife and I go for a ride, she can't talk to me or more accurately, I can't hear her when she talks in the headset. We can both hear the radio. I can hear myself speak in my own headset and she can hear me in her's but I cannot hear her in my headset when she talks in her microphone. Now some of you may be saying 'whats the problem' but anything over 15 minutes and no conversation is intolerable to her and we arrive at our destination no matter how pretty the ride with her in a very sullen mood, sorta like your pet cat that is coming in out of a cold hard rain. That is certainly not my idea of a pleasant evening. Sort of spoils the mood, if you know what I mean. Anybody have an idea why this might be happening? Otherwise, I will be riding solo or taking the Toyota. Iowa Guy
  10. Is there a good place to order headset microphones for intercom and CB capability for myy Venture? I prefer a headset for a fullface helmet.
  11. I know there are lots of threads about headsets already here, but I didn't feel they applied. I've just purchased a 00 Millenium RSV. I pick it up at Thanksgiving. I would like to get a headset ordered that works with the factory plug. I've been checking the WWW and the options are way too many to know what to do Can you guys recommend the best one for this bike. I have open faced Fulmer helmets with a face shield. Thanks and love the sight.
  12. How do you know if your CB is actually working? My CB comes on, all the knobs work and it goes through all the channels, but besides a bit of static, I have never heard a peep out of out of it. I have tied though the speakers and headset and have never heard any talking. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who owns a CB so I don’t have a way to test it. Thanks, Al
  13. need help have 2006 venture can get no sound out of any speachers radio cb and cass all power up. tried changing form speachers to headset still nothing
  14. In the owner's manual, it lists an Aux DC jack and Aux DC terminal. Is the jack the same on as that used for the audio headset? How do you use the Aux DC terminal? Could someone pls elaborate...thanks
  15. I have a new Nolan N103 N-Com helmet. I want to install a headset to communicate with my '02 RSV audio system (CB and aux audio) as well as my Zumo 550 GPS paired with my cell phone. I've found 2 options and want to know if anyone has experience with either to tell me which is best! I can install a Nolan bluetooth headset with a multimedia wire to my 5 pin audio connector... or, I can use a J&M headset and a J&M integrator which will integrate (hardwire) my GPS to the audio system along with a lower wire for my 5 pin connector. Any suggestions? Thanks, Art
  16. Communication Pros: This goes out to all those folks that use a headset mostly all of the time...I have the ICM HS-G45 for a half helmet...has worked great for me for the way I need it too....I normally ONLY use them when riding in groups and need comm. for blocking...directions...etc..occasional comm during ride with buds on other bikes...My wife DOES NOT have any headset... HOWEVER...when I use them...I have this concern...Stereo, Sound Quality, CB, Music from Radio, or Aux outlet and MP3...All OK...BUT when I push the HORN button, I get static through the earpieces....I have the IC volumn down to 0 because I have no need for IC use...Any thought or comments would be welcome....of course ONLY problem is when I use the HORN...I have the stock horn and no others attached... Thanks in advance for your comments... George In Virginia... :scratchchin::scratchchin::scratchchin:
  17. What I'm looking for is something so my wife and I can chat if we so desire. The problems is that we ride on two different bikes. Are there any options out there that will allow us to talk to each other. She rides a Honda Shadow 1100 so the cb is not even an option. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance David
  18. This may have been asked and answered already but I can't find it. When I plug in my headset, listening to the radio, MP3, whatever, my mike is always open. I get outside noise, if I cough, hum, or sing with the music, I hear it through my headset. Is this normal? Is the mike supposed to be open all the time? When my wife is with me and hooked up, both our mikes remain open. Mmmm, got to be carefull thinking out loud Thanks. Looking forward to your replies.
  19. I have headset for 3/4 helmets. They are 1 1/2 years old and I now have a loose connection in my helmet. It is where the cord from the bike attaches to the side of the helmet. I most times now have to jiggle the connection to get the mic and speakers to work. I haven't tried pulling it apart as I figure that will be a winter project. It is a really poor design as the cord and sticks out at the bottom of the helmet. (I really don't like Yamaha accessories) Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it? I ride an 07 Midnight. Thanks, John
  20. I have a rstd so I have no speakers. Can I play my ipod through the GPS and buy a headset for my existing helmet? How does all this work together?
  21. I can not hear the CB when I turn it on. It powers up, channels change, keys up with the PTT but I have no audio. Does a mic or headset have to be plugged in to have receive? Also the squelch is open, so I know it isnt just being squelched out.
  22. I've got a nolan N41 classic plus helmet that needs a new face shield, hinge screw bolt and plastic slide cover over one of the hinges. Where is the best place to get parts for the nolan? I don't know that I am really fond of the helmet but its the one that has the headset I wear to talk with my wife when she goes along so I gotta keep it up in good repair. Iowa Guy
  23. For thos tired of wind noise in their headset try these - work great! http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=IMC-5P-SWB
  24. Hi there: I have an 84 VR and have installed a CB etc out of a 92. The 5 pin cord that goes from the radio the where the driver plugs his headset in has a plug sticking out the side of it half way down. Can someone tell me what is suppose to plug into that? Could it be a filter of some sort? Wayne
  25. I recently purchased a set of IMC-HS-G45U-FIVE PIN HELMETLESS HEADSET with lower cords from Sierra Mc Electronics. Here is the problem.
