  1. I am going to the store today to buy two new J&M Headsets and lower cords. Does anyone know if there is any REAL difference between the "performance" headset and the "Elite" headset? The price isn't much different, and the descriptions are identical between the two. However, the lower cords are $30 difference between the "P" and "Z" cords. They look identical also. Has anyone here had both, and could tell a difference? Need to know soon, as I'm going to get them in a bit.
  2. i have an 83 venture original Radio/intercom unit installed on my buke. i would like to get a headset to go with my radio however i dont know what cord to buy the opening on the console is square. so far all the headsets i have seen are round 5 pin connectors. can anyonec help me figure out what i need to complete my set. Thank for any help
  3. I commute on the bike and am off and on several times a day. I find the headset cord a pain and I go through a couple of them a year. Does anyone make a bluetooth system that would work with the existing radio system? I'm thinking of something like a bluetooth transmitter dongle that could plug into the bike's original headset connector and a reciever that would mount in helmet. I would like to eliminate the headset cord. Maybe I should patent that idea! Dennis
  4. I removed the trunk from my '09 RSV and reinstalled the CB under the luggage rack. I can hear my radio and my cb through the speakers but can't hear anything through my headset. Everything is hooked up as before except for the 2 plugs that plug into the trunk. Does the trunk have to be installed in order for the headset to work when plugged into the tank plug? Or is there possibly something wrong with the wiring somewhere up front? Thanks in advance.........
  5. It seems as if my radio comes and goes when listening threw the headsets also when it is working the volume has to be turned up more than without headsets. I think there is two settings for IC volume and Radio volume. I also noticed the CB was recieving or doing something because the RX would light up by the headset symbol. Any ideas as to what is going on or is there a certain way to set things up??? Thanks
  6. where does a guy get another intercom cable for the headset??? and how much are they?? does any one have one to sell???:crying:

    CB Radio

I noticed that inside the black plastic box that protects the CB that there is a gray 1/4" (I think) plug that's not being used. Is this where a microphone could be plugged in instead of having to use the headset mic? I want to use a handheld mic for times when I don't wear my full face with mic and speakers. Thanks......
  8. Just wondering if any of you use the scal rider q2 headset. I see they just came out with a newer version in February. Wonder if anyone has the unit with mp3 jack and your thoughts if it is worth the price and how does the phone feature work at high speeds. Thanks Brian D.
  9. I plan to purchase the N43 trilogy helmet with a J&M headset. I have looked and looked but I can not find out what is the differance between there Elite (584) headset and the Performance (279).. except the price! Do you know? or is there a web site that does a side by side comparison/review. I welcome your inputs toward other headsets. The helmetshop.com has the helmet at $249, the elite headset for $209 and the Performance headset for $180.
  10. Well, I finally got my MP3 input hardwired in to the wiring harness. I installed a 3pdt switch to seperate the FM signal from the MP3 signal. They work great. However, I've noticed the potential of my new speakers - which works GREAT with the MP3 and is marginal with the FM radio. The FM works fine...just quiet. It preforms just as well as it did before the MP3 input mod. I just wish I could get a louder sound with the FM radio so that I could hear it better when engine is running. I haven't gotten my comm. headset yet...its in the mail. Does it all work better when the sound is piped through the headset?
  11. I find that my full face Bell works fine in the winter but get's awfully hot in the summer time. Anyone have either of these HJC helmets. Bike Bandit has the FS-3 on clearance sale, I really like the idea of running either a visor or a shield. That being said, I'm wanting to install a J&M headset in whatever I get with little to no cutting on anything on the inside. Also, how is the noise? Also might look at a Nolan N42/N43. Same kinds of questions.
  12. It seems like the connection between my J&M headset and the lower cable (cable-to-headset) is misbehaving. If I just let the cable hang from the helmet, tunes work fine, but the intercomm is very intermittent. If I tuck the cable inside of my jacket, it seems to relieve the tension from the connectors, and every thing work fine. What kinds of ingenious ways have you all come up with to insure that the connections stay solid? ALmost seems like I should be able to replace the connectors with some type of twist-lock connector...I'm even considering a hook&loop (velcro) fix..
  13. I'm planning to purchase a Garmin 765T. Does anyone have this unit hardwired? And is there a way you can use your Bluetooth phone with this system in combination with a headset.
  14. Last week I bought a J&M headset from Chrome World.com and it works OK so I was going to buy the bride one except she has a half helmet and mine is a 3/4 helmet. The one I was looking at for her is J&M HS-G45 it says it is compatible with Goldwing but it doesn't mention Yamaha 5 pin connector. Anyone have one of these and your thoughts please and most of all is it compatible with the RS Venture 2006? Thanks much for the input! Steve
  15. My '83 VR had no CB when I bought it a couple of months back and am curious about a removable handheld type for it and if there is away to adapt one to an add-on helmet headset? I'm not worried about the PTT part or bluetooth. Also, what brands would work? Thanks in advance.
  16. I have a 2 piece cable for a J&M headset. It is the 5 pin style...the ends where the cables join together is shaped like a D. Works, but not a new cable by any means. No bare wires showing, etc. If you need it, send me a pm, first one to speak up gets it. It's yours for a $5 donation to VR.O.
  17. So I am going to order a headset for my 03 RSV I see the J&M and IMC. The IMC is a cheaper unit is this one of those you get what you pay for? Cheaper is not the way to go? Is this headset a good one? JM-HS-8154B-OF Thanks.
  18. Looking at getting a Chatterbox Headset for my wife's flip-up helmet. She doesn't ride very often, but it would be nice to be able to converse. Any experiences with these?
  19. I have the passenger headset cord that runs to the back of the bike, I need a driver's headset cord that comes from the radio and lays next to the tank cover. Anyone got one they are willing to sell?
  20. What wireing will in need to patch my intercom headset to the Zumo. I have looked at some units on line but i'm not sure whats what.
  21. Well, I finally got to admit my new to me 2005 RSV has it. I test rode it, heard it at lower speeds but not at highway cruising speeds so I purchased it. I must say here I used a full face helmet for the test ride, and the subsequent 4 hour ride home after with no headset listen to music or CB. I did notice it on the way home, but had a tail wind almost all the way. The other day it was quite hot, and I used my other 3/4 helmet for a 2 hour ride (no headset). The wind picked up quartering from my left front. I couldn't wait to get off that bike! What an irritating chirp at about 110 km (65mph). But what I did find was that by shifting body position, turning my head, or leaning my body to one side I could change the intensity of the chirp dramatically. I know if I was blessed with longer arms, I could lean well back and get away from it all together. So it seems to me a combination of motor load, wind speed direction etc etc. Has anyone else experienced this? This is NOT about a whine, but a chirp sound. It seems to be worst when both ears get it simultaneously. I don't know what to do about it. It is tolerable with full face and tunes, and I wore the 3/4 size helmet (no headsets) with foam ear plugs recently and it was OK also. I could hear it, but it was quite soft. I am not sure what to do about it. My local Yamaha dealer has not had much experience with either the RSTD or RSV, and I am not sure complaining would not fall on deaf ears. Has anyone had luck changing oil types or weight ie 10w30 or 20w50, dino vs synthetic etc? Thanks.
  22. ok folks. I am in need of the cable that hooks to the bike that the lower headset cable hooks in to. Not sure of the name of the part but as I am sitting on the bike its in front of me on the left. I had a short in the cable and when I pulled the lower headset cable out the end of the plug came with it. I tried to rewire it but not knowing which color wire goes where I was afraid to mess something up. So if anybody is parting out a first gen and know if the cable you have is compatable with my 91 vr let me know. I would rather buy my part from friends instead of a stealor.. Tahnks in advance, David
  23. probably a dumb question , but I'll ask it anyway. On a 91 vr will the bikes speakers and the headset speakers play at the same time?? WHen I have the headset button pressed the bikes speakers are not playing and when I dont have the headset button the bikes speakers play but not the headset. Just wandering if they both playor if its ine or the other. Thanks in advance, David
  24. just a quick check to see if anyone has an unused headset they are willing to let go. I am wanting to use a set as I cant hear the radio with my flip up helmet on. With the shorty helmet all is well. Just want to try it out and see if a headset is for me or if it will be better for me to just use earbuds with my mp3. Thanks in advance , David
  25. I have a 87 VR and the female 5 pin plug for the passenger headset cord has gotten chewed up through overuse (abuse). The plastic is breaking up and the pins are hanging on,,,barely. I disssambled the rear sound control assembly box (on pasenger left hand side) and it looks like you should be able to wire in a replacement but the female end of the 5 pin plug looks like it is pressed into a metal flange that in turn is connected by two tiny Philip screws to a stamped metal plate. Even if you could even get an original, according to the Yamaha parts manual it looks like you would have to buy the whole module. So, if anyone has an rear assembly box for a First Gen at a reasonable price, please let me know - then I don't have to worry about trying to figure out an alternative. I have to think someone else has already had to contend with this already. Any advice or known solutions? Thanks and Happy 4th to our friends south of the border. Ron
