  1. Hello everyone. Hope someone would please help me with a Radio/Intercom problem I'm having on My 1988 Venture Royale ?. I have owned this Venture for 10 years with no Audio problems untill now. The headset push button on the Amplifier Controller Function, just below the Radio, will not turn off the Intercom ( green light stays on all the time ) and only plays Music or CB through the headset. I can not get Music or CB Audio to play through the Speakers. Sprayed a little contact cleaner into the push button, but did not help, also checked the mute and other buttons with no help for this problem. Has anyone ever had this problem? Please help Me with any suggestions You may have. Thanks, Russ
  2. I am partial to flip front helmets, and I have been using Nolan helmets for a number of years and 100,000 miles, first the N100E, then the N102. I just recently purchased an N103, and if you have either the N100 or N102, you REALLY need to try the N103, it is a great improvement! Combined with the J&M 584 or 629 headset, this thing is fantastic. I really liked my N102 with the integrated headset and extra sun shade that flipped down over the normal shield, but the N103 is WAY more comfortable, and the new internal sun shade is fantastically better than the old external one. I didn't use the dark flip-down sun shade on the N102 very much because the dark top half and light bottom half of the sight pattern was very distracting. With the new internal sun shade on the N103, it works much more like a military flight helmet with a sun shade that covers your eyes like a pair of sunglasses. This give you the darker shield when you want it, and without the distracting dark/light split. And with the choice of also wearing regular sunglasses at the same time, you can easily select four or five different levels of darkness to match whatever conditions you are in without having to stop and change the face shield on the helmet - very flexible and convenient. And if you do want to change the main shield for any reason, it is now one of the easiest ones to change that I have ever used - another great improvement. Nolan was the first company to offer a helmet with an integrated headset capability and the extra dark sun shade, but now lots of others have copied them. Nolan sells their own n-com headset and bluetooth system, but I have never tried them. I buy the J&M unit that is made specifically to fit just like the n-com does. I thought it was nice in the N102, but the updated system in the N103 is way better still. The mounting of the speakers is really slick recessed into the inner liner and behind the screen in the ear piece. Finally, I am very pleased to note that the vents on the N103 work much better than they did on either the N100 or N102. They look pretty much the same in location and size, but I could feel a significant effect from them on my first ride, even in 100 degree temps. And the top vent is soooo much easier to operate now. I only bought this new helmet because I had worn the old one so long that the liner was completely collapsed, allowing the helmet to move around and create hot spots and itches. After seeing how nice the N103 is, I wish I had bought it sooner! Goose Oh, one more thing - Sierra Electronics had the best price on BOTH the helmet and the headset, didn't charge anything extra to mount the headset before shipping, and has always provided me with great service. They shipped this helmet the same day (and I didn't even place the order until 3:00 pm!). http://www.sierra-mc.com/nolan.asp
  3. After replacing my broken fairing & putting everything back together, all works fine except when I plugged in my helmet headset cable tonight to the bike when going for a ride & got a super loud high pitched constant screeching sound. It happens with different helmets, different cables, and when connected to either the front or rear connectors...so I must've missed something when reconnecting all the radio wiring. I have mic-mutes installed too. Radio & XM work fine thru speakers though. Anyone know what I might've missed before I split the fairing again & go hunting for things?
  4. I've read a few other threads but none gave me the specific answer other than applying dielectric grease to the connectors (which I haven't yet tried). However, here's the problem .... Right front speaker - no sound Left front and both rear have sound No sound in right headset speakers, front or rear. Any ideas other than cleaning the connectors inside the fairing?
  5. Been looking at all the info about adding phone to to the RSV setup. What I have is an iphone 3gs and a HTC evo. I know I can get the sound from the phone to the headsets. Is there a way to get headset mic output into the phone? I was thinking about building a patch cable like this http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/05/28/diy-an-ipod-touchiphone-microphone-and-headphone-breakout-cable/ But need diagrams and info on the coms setup so I can see if this(the mic feed) is doable. I know BuddyRich makes a breakout cable for you garmin users. Anyone have any info? Basically the phone is a mp3 player and paperweight (we switched to Sprint) Thought I could use it for the GPS and music. But also my current phone uses the same style of headset. Thanks for any info Frank
  6. Does anyone have or know where I can find a longer cord for the rear headset? Mrs.Skid is almost six foot tall and her she is rough on the cords. I didn't have that problem with her on the first gen.
  7. Last week I called J&M about a headset that was way out of warranty (bought in '07) and that the upper portion of the cable's wire had broken internally. They told me to ship it to them and they would look at it and give me a repair cost. I sent it out Priority mail and in 2 days received an e-mail in the a.m. that they received. Another e-mail later that afternoon that they shipped back a NEW headset !!!! Received it today and I can tell you that their customer service was great. I was looking at a replacement cost of $170-ish. Thanks J&M !! BEER30
  8. Is it possible to build a headset for a 83 venture royale? I have all the cables, front and back... just wondering if it is possible?
  9. The factory headset cable (the one that clips to the side of the "tank cover" on my '86 VR, appears to have a short in it. The right channel comes and goes and is getting worse. Has anyone replaced this cable and what is involved? I am guessing that it might be available from Yamaha, but anyone have a known good one they want to part with? Thanks
  10. Can anyone tell me how I can find out if the intercom system on my '87 Venture works? I want to buy the helmet headset from wingstuff.com but before I do I want to make sure the system on the bike works. Thanks
  11. I apologize, I don't know that much about the Bluetooth helmet headsets, but I like the flexibility with Bluetooth to connect to my phone, GPS, etc. Is there an interface to connect a Bluetooth helmet headset into the RSV intercom, stereo and CB? Being able to do away with that annoying headset cord would be awesome.
  12. Anyone interested in these items....... The Headset is for a full coverage ...Just pay shipping
  13. Anybody had any experience with these? I have bought 2 pairs of used headsets in the past...both were junk! Don't want to throw away any more money. [ame=http://cgi.ebay.ca/Yamaha-Venture-Royale-DYNAMIC-MIC-HEADSET-/350215499880?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item518a787068]Yamaha Venture Royale DYNAMIC MIC HEADSET on eBay.ca (item 350215499880 end time 10-Jan-11 08:21:24 EST)[/ame] after shipping it would be about $100 each set
  14. Can anyone advise?? I've been thinking of buying the yamaha helmet headsets but need a question answered first. When the headset is plugged in does the music from the radio play through the headset or the the bike speakers? Thanks
  15. So, both my dash speakers and headset speakers play a different tune. It is same whether on the radio or throught the cassette adaptor. Left dash speaker and left headset speaker = engine noise Right dash speaker and right headset speaker = music I have put space between the spark plug wires and any wires. The wires are the NGK set off of ebay. What is wrong?
  16. Has anyone mounted your iphone to the handlebars? I’ve found the ads so I know they exist, my questions is more about your experience. Have there been any long term issues with vibrations? Are you worried about when it rains? Do you have it wired to the bikes electrical system for power? I am looking at getting an iphone 4 and also a Bluetooth headset (maybe scala, not sure yet). I have a Zumo 550 and am thinking I need to link the phone separately from the Zumo since the Zumo only does Bluetooth in mono, not stereo. So I woul This would require a headset that allowed for multiple connectionsd have the Zumo for traffic and Nav, and use the iphone for music and incoming only calls. Does the iphone need to be mounted for this purpose, or would it be better to keep either in my pocket or in the saddlebag with an external power source? My commute is about an hour each way.
  17. So, I went to the local dealer and they had a couple of intercom sets. I checked and they are about $350 elsewhere and about another $100 for an extra headset. I picked up both complete sets and was just going to take a headset out of one to complete the set (passenger and rider) and install it on my bike. Well it is not going to work for me cuz my wife only wears a half helmet. I got them at 200 a piece, so that is what I will sell them for to anyone that might want it from here. I will be posting it on EBay next week if not. Let me know. They are both new in the box. Search autocom kit 300 on Google and you can see the specs. Thanks Adam
  18. I have 99RSV and I am recieving well over the CB but when I transmit they say it is very weak, but if I talk loud they say they can hear me better. It used to work OK but lately the problem started. I'm using a new Nolan 103 helmet with the J&M headset, Any sugestions.
  19. I am looking for a junk headset that someone may want to part with. I need the mic from one that goes in an open face helmet. I have a new Elite series 584 for a full face and the mic is just a wire so I need to have the boom mic so I can attach it to it for an open face. Hope this all makes sense.
  20. Anyone know if a head set is made to be used without a helmet or a half helment. And what kind do you think has better sound I thought about the yamaha ones. But somtimes I do not wear a helmet when going for a short ride. And would like to purchase a half helmet, So would like to find a headset that could do both. Or is that a pipe dream.
  21. Hey guys, got a problem I hope y'all can help me with. I've got a set of J&M headsets in Nolen helmets. I am quite pleased with them so far, however today when riding I noted I was getting engine noise (static) through the headset. It wasn't "terrible" but was darn annoying. Anyway, while i was stopped I went to adjust the intercom volume. when I hooked my headset back up I immediately encounted an Unbelievable LOUD SHRIEK!!!! The volume of this was NOT affected by the volume control (at least that i could figure out. I disconnected/reconnect a couple times with NO luck in making it go away. I was running late for home so I disconnected and highballed back to the house. Anyway, does anybody have any ideas/suggestion concerning resolving these issues? I'd really appreciate it! THANKS!!!
  22. When we bought our 05 Venture...a pair of full face helmets with headsets came with it. I can't do a full face anymore with all the 40 mph winds, 90 plus temperatures, etc. I have purchased a half helmet that has ear flaps where my earpieces can fit into, but I have no place to velcro stick my mike, so hears my question.... What kind of headset do I need to buy for a halfhelmet and will I also need to buy one for the hubby in order for us to talk together? Neither one of us know anything about electronics at all. Thanks in advance for any help. Deb
  23. Hi - I'm a newbie here so I hope this first post isn't too simple a question. I picked up a 2001 Venture a couple of weeks ago, the bike is in great shape with 43,000 miles on it. I had wanted a larger touring bike for some time and had done a lot of research online and felt that the Venture offered a lot of value for the money. One of the selling features to convince my wife we needed to upgrade from our Honda Shadow VT750 was the integrated audio system with intercom. The stereo on the bike works fine through the speakers. This weekend I installed new J&M Headsets into our helmets. At first when I tested both helmets - they worked fine both stereo and Intercom. Later that same day a problem developed - for the drivers side whenever I hook up the helmet (either helmet) I get a loud continuous tone coming through the headset speakers. The passenger connection still works fine. The tone through the headset remains with the select button set either to speakers or HS. Has anyone encountered this before? Thanks, Dale
  24. I am always asking questions and getting great advice and tips from everyone on here...thought I would give back (if only a little). I recently spoke (in another thread) about my first longer ride and the use of the headset vs speakers vs earbuds, and how I rated each of them. Just to summarize...I rated these three options on a scale of 10. Speakers .... 4 Headset...... 2 Earbuds....... 8 (maybe even a 9 on a better set of buds) Anyway, in order to utilize the headset with earbuds you need the motorcycle adapter to convert the headset to a mini-plug. The first one I bought I paid over $50.00 for it at a 3rd party location on the net...however I found the actual vendor online and now this adapter can be had for only $24.95. Here is the company URL: http://plugup.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=7&products_id=19 Like I said, using the earbuds is a HUGE improvement sound wise, as well as eliminating the wind and motor noise (got rid of my WHINE ). I know there might be some safety issues with earbuds, that's something you'll have to work out on your own...but for MUCH BETTER SOUND...this is the ONLY way to go. Wally
  25. Will the Harley headset work on an 88 Venture? Or is the Harley 8 pin and Venture 5 pin?
