  1. Ok guys tired everything I can think of for my intercom. When plugged in have sound from the CB and radio. But can not transmit on the CB or talk on the intercom. Checked all the switches used different setting, and nothing. even changed the headsets and still nothing. Could the intercom control head be bad, even though it switches from head set to speaker with no problem. I even turned the intercom button on and off and this changed nothing.
  2. hope to head for CODY monday the 18'th,ain't telling the doc, thro see you there, maybe i well lead you thru the pass again
  3. While prepping the bike for Cody I noticed that the steering was very loose. Push the bars from the center and they would bounce off the stop 2-3 inches. I didn't feel any play but the bounce concerns me. How much of a hassel and time does it take to adjust the steering head? If it's a bunch I'll wait until getting back from Cody.
  4. Well I'm still climbing over obsticals but I'm determined to get there ! I removed cleaned and set the float levels on the carbs and was set to replace the rear tire when I got home from work Monday, well the wife hired some guys to redo our patio and when I got home things were not going as well as I had expected, Monday night shot. Tues 14.75 hour day at work no energy left sooo Wednesday my day off I had a crown scheduled to be put on a tooth @ 10:00 am and we are buying another house so we had to meet and sign contracts @ 8:00 am finally get to the bike at about 11:00 jack it up and the dang rear shock is bleeding friggin oil everywhere a few dozen phone calls and I have one landing here tomorrow, well I got the tire replaced, brake pads replaced, splines lubed, diff oil changed and alot of things cleaned. I'll pick up the shock on the way home tomorrow and get the bike back together before I crash, work Friday then drive to Grand Rapids so I can be at a meeting there at 7:00 am till about 11:00 2 hrs back to Flint load up and head to St Ignace for the night and head to the Keewenaw to spend the night with friends, Monday a day of rest sightseeing and Tuesday continuing WEST TO CODY THATS RIGHT I"M NOT BACKING DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Does anyone have a spare for a 1st gen in case I screw up or regret doing it. :bang head:
  6. I was oringinally scheduled to leave today for the Oregon-N. California coast but one of my riding companions had a death in the family so we had to postpone our start until Thursday morning. We'll be taking a northerly route from Central Ky through IN, IL, IA, MN, SD, MT and WA (I-90) on our way to Portland where we will pick up our wives on Monday. From there we'll head on to the coast and follow it down to San Fransisco and on to Big Sur. From there we'll head east through Yosemite and then south to Las Vegas where we'll drop the wives at the airport before we head back across I-40 toward home. So if you see 2 Goldwings and a Tour Deluxe along that route give us a wave or stop us for a chat, I'm sure we'll need a break. After Thursday morning you can follow our SPOT track by going to http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=2fd74df6c9a6b12d4 Dennis
  7. I have a 08 venture and wanted to know what was a good inexpensive head set I could use:lightbulb:
  8. Went for a ride today, and started noticing the handlebars sticking a little. I believe my head bearings needed to be repacked or replaced. Is the a tough job?
  9. While pulling & greasing the steering head bearings, I found a small (3/16) hole leading to the upper frame member. Can anyone think of a good reason not to plug this hole. The thought is to put a zerk fitting on the side of the head and be done with pulling this bugger apart to grease the bearings. I think the hole is there to releave pressure while assembling the frame. Since the frame is complete - plug the hole.
  10. Hi All, I recently acquired a 1989 Venture Royale to add to my stable, and it has the stock CB that works fine. The controller head in the right fairing side does not have a PTT switch like the head that came in my 1983 VR, (and I am not using that one as it didn't have the cb base under the top of the fairing, just the controller in my 83 VR), and was wondering if they are compatible. I don't have the stock headsets, so I don't have the PTT that probably came on them, the rear passenger control has a PTT, but I want one too. Can I just swap out the controllers and thereby have the PTT on my right? I would not have the local /DX button on the 89 controller, but who needs it. I would rather have the PTT. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!
  11. Usama Bin Laden arrived at the gate into paradise. The gatekeeper greeted him with hugs and cheek kisses and said "Usama, my dear friend, welcome to paradise. Come in! Come in!" Usama strutted boldly through the gate. The gate had barely closed behind him when George Washington stepped up and hit him square in the middle of his face. The blow broke Usama's nose, knocked out a couple of teeth, and sent him falling flat on his back. He laid there a moment to clear his head and was just starting to get up when Patrick Henry came up and kicked him in the behind sending him tumbling tail over teakettle. Confused and dazed he slowly rose to his feet when Thomas Jefferson hit him with a round house right up the side of his head. Usama spun around from the blow and fell to the ground again. When he could muster the strength to speak he cried out to the gatekeeper "I don't understand. Why is all this happening?" The gatekeeper looked at him expressionless and said "My dear Usama, weren't you listening? We told you that when you reach paradise there would be seventy two Virginians waiting for you.
  12. Don't know how or why,but the head broke on my radio where it has the inserts and screws. I did a temp fix but my question is can a person buy just the housing and change it out?
  13. I have a 4 day weekend this week. Been trying to decide what to do. We have decided to start the bike after work on Friday and head NW. Hoping to end up at MT Rushmore. So far our longest ride in a day has been 350 or so. We are starting prep as of 1 hr ago. The bike needs nothing but the GPS put on. So anything we should make sure we don't miss there? Best food? Neither of us have ever been there. Seems crazy to just head out without planning but thats half the fun right? Wish us luck!! Frank:12101:
  14. I am working on the steering column of my 96 GMC full size P/U. There are a bunch of screws in the steering column that look like a Torx BIT, but are 5 point instead of 6 point. So I need a nut driver that has 5 internal points. This screw head is about 1/8" OD. I have been looking at tool places and can not find anything like this. I have found the Pentasockets but they are for a screw head with 5 flat sides, This is a star shape more like what a Torx bit looks like.
  15. Anybody have one of the cylinder side covers layin around? I just need one. Don't ask what happened...
  16. :confused24:I was a bit hesitant on eating the burgers when I saw who was cooking them:bang head: and the uninvited quests:no-no-no:
  17. So I'm at a red light and I see in my rearviews this little red Suzuki car barrelling up behind me. It was apparent to me this gal was NOT paying attention to her driving as she was jacking her jaws on her cellphone. I hit the throttle and got out of her way just in time to avoid being seriously rear-ended.....And of course she blew the red light big time! She got t-boned so bad her vehicle was pushed across 2 lanes of opposing traffic and right onto the sidewalk. I parked the scoot in a safe location and helped her get out of her vehicle and sit down. No serious injuries except for a nice laceration on the side of her head from smacking her door frame. She was more concerned about the location of her cell phone than anything else! I don't even want to think about how bad it would have been if she had rear-ended me at the speed she was going! Gave the LEO my statement and I'm purty sure I'll be called to Court for the lawsuit she's gonna get slapped with by the driver who nailed her. Keep yer head onna swivel and check those rearviews often my friends! Boomer....who sez unleashing a group of pygmies in the Courthouse could prove to be pretty darn comical....
  18. just wondering how difficult it is to install I basket. I'm only semi mechanically inclined but can usally figure things out. is this something that a pro should install for me. I would like to do it myself but don't want to get in over my head. thanks
  19. My closest call ever to being in a motorcycle accident. Canadian (Asian) pulled around me doing 60 - 65 in a 35 mph zone (2 lane road) Pulled back in front of me with less than 2 feet of clearance so he wouldn't head on a car in the other lane. The passenger in the back seat was watching and put her hand over her mouth. I locked up the back brakes, collected myself and followed him into the casino parking lot. I had to follow him around the lot for a bit because he probably thought I was going to clean his clock. When he finally backed into a parking spot I put the front wheel of my motorcycle right up to his bumper and motioned for him to step out. He shook his head "No" so I repeated the motion two more times. He got out and I chewed his a$$ and reminded him about the speed limit how close he came to hitting me. I'm still shaking...that was close.
  20. I have been in helmet shopping hell for the last few weeks. My RF1000 has had it after 7 years and with the RSV being more comfy I have noticed a lot more pain trying to do a little longer rides. I was really hoping to get into a modular helmet. First I ordered the Scorpion Exo 900 modular. Great helmet...feels solid, nice fit and finish with great features. But the 3xl was too small front to back and my chin touched the chin bar. Second was a Icon Aliance in 3xl. Not a modular but great price at 160.00. Still a great looking helmet and would have been great but too snug and more for a round shaped head. We found an Arai Profile in xl and RX-Q in 2xl. The Profile was too small but crazy comfy and probably would be great in a 2xl. The RX-Q in 2xl did actually fit pretty well. The problem with these two was price (Profile 480.00) (RX-Q 525.00). I don't mind the dough but I am still hoping to find a modular someday. So after seeing a review on the new RF1100 I liked the 5 different shell sizes, venting, improved sealing and removable liner. Found it locally in 3xl(hair too big) and xl (hair too tight). Looks like the Qwest is a cruiser version of the RF1100, venting changed for upright position and non removable liner. The Qwest comes in cheaper at 315.00. I decided to order the RF1100 in Metallic Black, 415.00 from Revzilla. Good service and awesome helmet. It's early yet, only have a quick 50 mile ride on it but no hotspot at all. Nice padding and washable liner. Even has nice pockets molded in for headset speakers. It seems to be quiet and possibly good airflow (hard to tell behind the windshield). When I poke my head out of the air bubble I can feel air moving. Fit and finish are excellent, the visor is like butter and you can feel it suck shut when closed. So if you have a larger hard to shape head, give this a go. I see lots of comfy miles in my future. Frank
  21. Found this site, and thought someone might like a look. Nice head wraps for the ladies http://www.riderswraps.com

  24. The Hillbilly Farmer A hillbilly farmer had a wife who nagged him unmercifully. From morning till night (and sometimes later), she was always complaining about something. The only time he got any relief was when he was out plowing with his old mule. He tried to plow a lot. One day, when he was out plowing, his wife brought him lunch in the field. He drove the old mule into the shade, sat down on a stump, and began to eat his lunch. Immediately, his wife began haranguing him again. Complain, nag, nag; it just went on and on. All of a sudden, the old mule lashed out with both hind feet; caught her smack in the back of the head. Killed her dead on the spot. At the funeral several days later, the minister noticed something rather odd. When a woman mourner would approach the old farmer, he would listen for a minute, then nod his head in agreement; but when a man mourner approached him, he would listen for a minute, then shake his head in disagreement. This was so consistent, the minister decided to ask the old farmer about it. So after the funeral, the minister spoke to the old farmer, and asked him why he nodded his head and agreed with the women, but always shook his head and disagreed with all the men. The old farmer said: "Well, the women would come up and say something about how nice my wife looked, or how pretty her dress was, so I'd nod my head in agreement." "And what about the men?" the minister asked. "They wanted to know if the mule was for sale."
